Fayose’s wife canvass votes for Jonathan

Wife of Ekiti State governor, Mrs. Feyisetan Fayose, has urged voters in the state to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan at Saturday’s presidential election.

Mrs. Fayose on Wednesday took her campaign for Jonathan to some government-owned hospitals and communities saying the re-election of the President would guarantee peace, progress and unity of the country.

She also used the opportunity of the outreach to offset medical bills of indigent patients in the hospitals visited.

The hospitals Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti; Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti; State Specialist Hospitals at Ikole, Ikere and Ijero.

She said her decision to assist the indigent patients was borne out of the need to lend them a helping hand as a little way of supporting her husband in making life easier for the masses.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Olanike Oguntoyinbo prayed for the Governor’s wife saying the gesture has lifted the burden off her shoulder.

Mrs. Fayose who was received by large number of people in the communities including women leaders and politicians said she would never abandon the less-privileged members of the society.

Using the opportunity to campaign for Jonathan, Mrs. Fayose said victory for the PDP presidential flag bearer at the poll on Saturday would allow him to consolidate on the achievements recorded so far.

Mrs. Fayose said: “If we vote Jonathan there would be peace and progress in the whole country, we must vote Dr Jonathan to consolidate on his good work he is doing.”

While emphasizing the need to vote Jonathan, Mrs Fayose said Jonathan’s re-election would improve the serious financial mess the state is witnessing currently.

Mrs. Fayose equally urged the people to support the government of the day by supporting her husband, saying the governor is poised towards improving their welfare through the implementation of the  programme of stomach infrastructure.

APC, others ask court to order impeachment proceedings against Fayose

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council and 53 others have asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to compel the Ekiti State House of Assembly to begin impeachment proceedings against Governor Ayodele Fayose.

In the suit filed on Monday, the plaintiff accused Fayose of gross misconduct for allegedly suggesting, in an advert he sponsored in some national newspapers, that the APC’s presidential candidate, Maj. Gen.  Muhammadu Buhari, will die in office, if he is elected.

They prayed the court to award N50billion against Fayose and 21 other defendants for malicious falsehood against Buhari

The APC, which sued through its Legal Directorate, and other plaintiffs, alleged that such act by Fayose was a public misconduct “unbecoming of a Nigerian governor”.

The plaintiffs alleged that Fayose, described as Coordinator of the Goodluck/Sambo Presidential Campaign Organisation of the Peoples Democratic Party, sponsored the publications using the statutory funds of the Ekiti State government.

They, therefore, want the court to declare that the act of the defendants constitute a breach of Section 95(1) of the Electoral Act (2010) as amended.

They also want the court to declare that the publications by the defendants were meant to confer undue advantage on the PDP’s presidential candidate.

The plaintiffs are also seeking a declaration that the contents of the publications referred to in relief 1 above and all other similar utterances by Ayodele Fayose amount to gross misconduct under the law.

An order pursuant to sections 95(7)(a) and (b) and 8 of the Electoral Act 2010(as amended) directing the first to the 21st defendants to pay N1 million and the 22nd defendant to pay N2 million daily from January 20, until the cessation of the breaches of the Electoral Act complained of herein.

Alternatively, an order directing the 23rd defendant (the inspector general of police) to investigate Fayose pursuant to Section 95 of the Electoral Act 2010(as amended).

An exemplary and aggravated damage of N50 billion for malicious falsehood contained in the several advertorials and publications, the said sum will be used to enhance the course of ethical and responsible journalism.

The plaintiffs also want the court to order the defendants to publish 10 times on the front pages of major international magazines, television and local newspapers with prominent headlines, retractions of all the offensive publications made by the defendants.

The defendants include Fayose’s Chief Press Secretary Idowu Adelusi; Ekiti State Government; the Attorney-General, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, and the House of Assembly.

Others include the chairmen of the following local governments in Ekiti State, Ado Ekiti, Aiyekire, Ekiti East, Ekiti South, Ekiti West, Emure, Ido Osi, Ijero, Ikere, Ikole, Ilejemeji, Irepodun, Ise/Orun, Moba, Oye.

Other defendants are Fayose and PDP.

The plaintiffs stated, in their statement of claim, that the government, House of Assembly, the functionaries of the state, and the local government chairmen are sued as being vicariously liable for “the gross misconduct and errant behaviour of Ayodele Fayose, their governor who is also the Coordinator of the South West Nigerian Branch of the Jonathan/Sambo Presidential Campsign Organisation.

No date has been fixed for the hearing of the suit.

  • Fayose embarrassing our family, says brother

Fayose embarrassing our family, says brother

Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose’s eldest brother, Segun, has appealed to the governor to stop embarrassing the family.

He said their father was a gentle pastor, who built and sustained a good name for the family, before joining his ancestors.

The elder Fayose spoke with our reporters in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

He said rather than sustain the good name which he inherited, the governor has been embarrassing other Fayoses with the way he insults elders  like former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

Segun, who is a United Kingdom-based accountant, said the family cherished the name it inherited from its late patriarch.

Emphasising that their father died with contentment, the elder Fayose said the family was known in Ekiti for sound character found in every omoluabi.

He described Chief Obasanjo as Ayo Fayose’s benefactor.

Segun said: “It is a pity Nigerians are celebrating criminals. I am angry with Nigerians for electing somebody like Ayodele as governor. My children cannot come to Nigeria because of the terrible situation of our country.

“I don’t have a relationship with any of our leaders because of their criminality and anybody who says I collected money from  the opposition should step forward to challenge me. Ekiti and Nigeria are bigger than Fayose’s name and both names should be protected.

“I don’t want anything from anybody, but Ayo should stop insulting and abusing my father’s name. As a result of Fayose’s attitude, many people believe the Fayose family is rude but it is far from the truth.

“I have spoken to him many times, but he refused to listen. Buhari and Obasanjo are old enough to be his father and I don’t know why he should be insulting them.

“I am always sad with the situation of this country. Ayo’s arrogance is one of the reasons I said people should not vote for him prior to the Ekiti governorship election. If all I am saying is not true, my six children should die and I should end up in shame.

“Most of us abroad are not happy with the situation of Nigeria. We are sad. When people call me from Ekiti to complain about Ayo, I tell them to forgive the family. People should not see Ayo as an ambassador of our family.”

  • Fayose plotting arrest of APC members, party alleges

Fayose plotting arrest of APC members, party alleges

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has alerted to an  alleged plan by Governor Ayodele Fayose to  order the arrest of its leaders before the March 28 presidential election.

A statement by APC  Publicity Secretary Taiwo Olatubosun alleged that the governor planned to use trumped-up charges to incarcerate APC leaders.

He further alleged that thugs in police uniforms would be unleashed on the opposition to create fears in the minds of APC members.

“After it became clear that soldiers would not be allowed to be used for the polls, PDP leaders in Ekiti State have opted for the police.

“They have discovered that the fake army uniforms they sewed would be useless and they have started sewing police uniforms for their operation,” Olatubosun alleged.

He said young men in six buses imported into the state about three weeks ago with military uniforms in their luggage were the same personnel the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would use for the operation.

The APC spokesman said party members would use all legal means, including civil actions, to defend their votes.

“We want to send a strong warning to Fayose that it is not going to be business as usual this time around. He did his worst during the last governorship election when soldiers deployed in Ekiti State helped him to supervise election rigging. Details of the criminal conspiracy are being heard around the world.

“We have learnt our lessons and he should be told that APC members are prepared for the worst.

“We will never get ourselves involved in criminalities but we will defend our votes by all means, legal and civil. Let Fayose know that as he is planning for his rigging, we are also planning to defend our votes. If he believes he can’t survive without bending the law, we will show him that upholding the law by defending our votes remains the only way to make democracy work,” Olatubosun said.

He urged the police not to be compromised, saying colluding with a party in political contest is a recipe for the breakdown of law and order.

“The filthy activities of soldiers in the last election have incensed Nigerians into taking their fate in their own hands on matters of electoral contests. If anybody feels he can use the police to manipulate these elections, that person should be prepared to confront the anger of the people.

“We warn the governor against any plan to rob Ekiti people. We call on security agencies to rein in the governor against any nefarious activities while we call on our members to be vigilant and be ready to defend their votes.

“We also say in clear terms that APC members will resist illegal arrests being planned by PDP leaders. Ekiti State is not a jungle for all illegal plans by PDP. For the first time since Fayose has been riding roughshod on the APC members and Ekiti people, our people, armed with the law, will vehemently resist any plan to constrict their voting right to elect leaders of their choice.”

  • Group chides Fayose over uncouth statement against Buhari

Group chides Fayose over uncouth statement against Buhari

A group, the Grassroots Mobilisation for Muhammadu Buhari, has berated the Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose over his recent uncouth statements against the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Gen Muhammadu Buhari.

In a statement by its National Coordinator, Mr Remi Oyebamiji, the group said Fayose exhibited lack of depth in his contribution at the interaction with civil right activities in Lagos.

He said: “Mr. Ayo Fayose, the audacious  and uncouthed Governor of Ekiti State exhibited lack of depth in his contribution at the interaction with civil right activities. In his trademark of abuse, disrespect, crude and uncivilised comments on Gen. Buhari (rtd) APC flag bearer, he described him as old, physically unfit and mentally incapable of leading the country.

“We need to ask Mr. Ayo Fayose the credentials he parades academically and intellectually that can compare him with Gen. Buhari’s astuteness, brilliance, mental alertness. Even Fayose’s principal cannot stand, Gen Buhari in mental, alertness, intellectual depth in good governance. Just recently the symbol of CHANGE and BRAND Gen Buhari (rtd) received a standing ovation at Chatham House, London U.K after a brilliant presentation and question and answer sessions on issues that bother on governance.”

According to Oyebamiji,  Fayose’s myopic opinion that the North should wait until 2019 for the Presidency, has reduced Nigeria to a banana republic at the expense of the clueless leadership PDP offers.

He said Fayose’s remarks about Governor Fashola’s performance is nothing but hypocrisy and distaste for good governance. Oyebamiji said Lagos State has become the standard for which other states including Federal Government are measured in terms of dividend of democracy and good governance.

He urged Ekiti people to call a family meeting on Fayose and take concrete decision on the bad conduct and demeanour has brought shame to the integrity and wellbeing of Ekiti people.

Oyebamiji added: “Ekiti State stands out among the states of Nigeria with indigenes that have distinguished themselves in all areas of human endeavour. The state has assemblage of best brains any nation can be proud of. Here is a Governor whose antecedent speaks nothing but mediocracy, brigandage, impunity, indiscipline and fraud.

“The Yoruba nation also needs to be on the alert. It is one servant that makes others to be despised. Like the bird “Elulu” calling for rain when the rains will come, the flood will sweep away everybody and everything on its part.”

  • Fayose and the elderly vote

    Fayose and the elderly vote

Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, increasingly sounds like a man who has started something and is clueless how to finish it. He has blundered badly but is too ashamed to admit it. There’s no dignified way for him to pull back, so he keeps pushing out silly attack adverts against Buhari and signs them off with a line claiming he has ‘No Apology.’

Fayose has this false notion that at 70 people become physically and mentally incapacitated. Some of Nigeria’s most celebrated leaders are in that age bracket. Pastor E. A. Adeboye, General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) – one of the world’s fastest growing Pentecostal congregations just celebrated 73. His schedule which includes grueling travels around the world is more than some presidents undertake.

Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) – an energetic man of God is over 70. Fayose’s colleague, and chairman of a faction of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), Plateau’s Jonah Jang, just turned 71. He has not quit office yet. If anything he’s running for Senate on March 28!

Fayose’s feverish verbal assaults against the APC presidential candidate for committing the offence of aspiring for office at 73, suggests that he may not be too keen to live to that age of ‘incapacitation.’

The governor drove the drama to a new low in Lagos last week when at the parley between PDP governors, the media and civil society, he announced to all gathered that his mother aged 72 uses Pampers. What sort of character will subject his mother and family to such indignity and public humiliation? This was too much information for those gathered as the embarrassed giggling that followed his disclosure showed. Clearly, high office doesn’t automatically make a man classy!

In his depiction of septuagenarians as useless Fayose risks turning a huge segment of the voting population against his chosen candidate. In most countries the elderly represent a powerful demographic that politicians court assiduously at election time.

His disrespectful denigration of those 70 and above has not made Buhari less popular. Instead it will drive the offended in this age bracket to embrace one of their own. And PDP has ‘Mr. No Apology’ to thank for that.

  • Fayose’s antics not representative of Ekiti Ethos – APC

Fayose’s antics not representative of Ekiti Ethos – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has said Governor Ayodele Fayose’s anti-social behaviour and belligerent postures against elderly Nigerians do not represent the ‎standard conduct of Ekiti people.

APC Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun‎, said in a statement that Fayose’s tantrums against APC presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, represented the quality of the governor’s personality, noting that his record of interpersonal relationships with others reflected a man ravaged by desperation, recklessness, greed and riotous handling of issues not representative of Ekiti credo.

Fayose had said on the live telecast of the meeting of PDP Governors’ Forum in Lagos that Buhari was of the same age with his mother, who he said was bedridden in pampers‎ and no longer physically strong to do productive things.

He said for the reason of same age with his mother, the APC candidate should stay clear of presidential contest for the young blood, President Goodluck Jonathan.

But Olatubosun said Nigerians should not be surprised that the governor made that declaration on his mother in a live programme beamed around the world, explaining that Fayose was a special breed of Ekiti son with record of ‎lack of decorum in all his actions.

‎”Fayose is the most desperate among Ekiti sons. We don’t know the spirit that drives his actions. If a man could‎ paint his own mother in such a disgusting manner to advance his reason why Nigerians should not vote for Buhari, then we can appreciate how desperate Fayose is in doing things when his political interest is at stake,” APC spokesman said.

Explaining that the governor had a record of treating elderly people with disdain and humiliation while he impoverishes the young ones, Olatubosun said: “Fayose’s record speaks volumes of his tempestuous lifestyle in both private and public life.

“For instance, the report of the Security Panel set up by President Olusegun Obasanjo to investigate political killings in Ekiti State between 2004 and 2006 revealed that Fayose was allegedly culpable.

“As  Ekiti State governor during his first stint,  government’s agents arrested the Atta of Ayede-Ekiti, the late Oba Adeleye Orisagbemi and put him in the booth of his car over alleged failure to support his government, the same way the octogenarian Elekole of Ikole, the late Oba Adetunla Adeleye, was dragged out of his car and the car forcefully taken away in broad daylight for not supporting him.‎”

Noting that no Ekiti man had ever behaved like Fayose in history, Olatubosun said if the governor could do this to revered traditional institution, ‎people should not expect any limit to his irrationality fueled by unrestrained capacity for violence.

Fayose has no record of maintaining a long standing relationship as none of his close aides is still with him to date.

Olatubosun said Fayose should have told the world that his mother and Buhari were bound by the same fate ‎and should have told Nigerians how many times his mother changed diapers daily or how long his father was in diapers before he died in 2009.

APC spokesman said Fayose was on his own in his uncivilized and desperate manner of doing things.

While apologizing to Buhari for the embarrassment, he also apologized to Nigerians on behalf of Ekiti people for the shame and embarrassment the governor is causing them every day.

  • Fayose to lawmakers: you can’t sue me in Lagos

Fayose to lawmakers: you can’t sue me in Lagos

Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has challenged the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court in Lagos to adjudicate on a suit against him and others by House of Assembly Speaker Adewale Omirin and 18 others.

The governor said he could not be sued outside Ekiti State where the “cause of action” took place.

According to him, the court lacks the “territorial jurisdiction” to decide the case.

The plaintiffs are praying the court to nullify and declare as unconstitutional Omirin’s purported “impeachment” by seven Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers.

Inspector-General of Police Suleiman Abba, the Department of State Security Services (DSS) and the new “Speaker”, Dele Olugbemi, are among the respondents.

Others are Olugbemi’s loyalists- Samuel Ajibola, Adeojo Alexander, Adeloye Adeyinka, Israel Ajiboye, Fatunbi Olajide, Olayinka Abeni- and the commissioner of Police.

The rest are three commissioners cleared by the House under Olugbemi – Oweseni Ajayi (attorney-general), Kayode Eso (works) and Toyin Ojo (Finance).

The plaintiffs are praying the court to declare that Omirin and his deputy are entitled to occupy their office, except removed by a two-third majority.

They are also seek a declaration that Fayose’s alleged attempt to force them to join the PDP and denounce the All Progressives Congress (APC) is against their right to freedom of association.

They asked the court to hold that Olugbemi’s election as speaker was illegal, and all deliberations and actions of the seven lawmakers invalid.

But the governor, in a preliminary objection filed by the three “commissioners” (12th to 14th respondents), is praying for an order that the suit be dismissed for lack of jurisdiction.

“The suit, as presently constituted, is incurably defective and grossly incompetent. Consequently, this court cannot sit over an incompetent suit,” he said.

Besides, the governor said the action did not follow due process as it was not signed by a judge as required by law.

“This court lacks both subject-matter and territorial jurisdiction to entertain the suit,” the respondents said.

Besides, they said the suit was an abuse of court process because the plaintiffs had allegedly instituted a similar action on the same matter for the same reliefs in another suit at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

“The cause of action, which gave rise to this matter as revealed by the originating summons and other processes filed by the applicants/respondents, took place in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State,” the respondents said.

Plaintiffs’ counsel Norrison Quakers said he would file a response to the preliminary objection.

The lawmakers are also praying for an order of mandatory and perpetual injunction restraining the “commissioners” from laying claim to offices they were not duly appointed to.

Omirin, who was elected as Speaker on June 6, 2011, said a team of armed security operatives were deployed to the Assembly’s premises last November 17, preventing the plaintiffs from carrying out their legislative duties.

The APC lawmakers were locked outside while PDP lawmakers confirmed the commissioners and approved the appointment of local government caretaker committees.

Justice Saliu Saidu adjourned till March 25 for hearing of the preliminary objection.

  • Beware of Fayose’s antics, APC tells Ekiti workers

Beware of Fayose’s antics, APC tells Ekiti workers

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has warned civil servants not believe Governor Ayo Fayose’s claims that his administration is hampered by lean treasury in fulfilling commitments to employees on government payroll.

Fayose had on Sunday night made an unscheduled broadcast on the state radio and television bemoaning the financial situation of the state which has seen its allocations from the Federation Account dwindle and recording a low revenue profile.

The governor’s broadcast which were also aired repeatedly on Monday also saw him emphasizing that he would not be able to pay leave bonuses, September salary arrears and other financial obligations.

Fayose said in the broadcast that he loved the workers and was willing to make them happy but his administration was hamstrung by huge debt burden expressing hope that things would change for better “very soon”.

But the state APC in a statement on Monday warned the people of the state not to be taken in Fayose’s “frequent radio and television live broadcasts to paint gloomy financial position of the state.

The Ekiti APC Publicity Secretary Taiwo Olatubosun said Fayose’s broadcast was devised to deceive and deny workers of their entitlements describing the governor’s action as a “mindless rhetoric and an alibi for his administration’s failure to meet salary obligation to them.”

Olatubosun claimed Fayose cannot be trusted since hundreds of Ekiti workers had been sacked and bond debts payment suspended for six months while ‎several promotions were reversed.

He argued that money saved from the losses to workers and cancellation of empowerment schemes should have been enough to pay workers entitlements, particularly as allocations payment was regular while there were no new capital projects being executed by the governor.

Warning the governor to stop reeling out what he called “his abracadabra debt and payment figures” to the more intelligent Ekiti workers, ‎ Olatubosun said the governor’s antecedents had given him away as he tried to hoodwink the innocent workers.

“It is good that Ekiti people know the kind of governor they have. In one breath, he said he spends N1.4b to pay salary monthly. The next minute, he said it is N1.6b in the same broadcast‎, which gave him away, as usual, as a man playing games with the lives of Ekiti people.

“All these mathematical gymnastics are callous demonstration of breach of faith in government and the governed relations.

“What is the governor doing with full monthly federal allocation to the state when the bond debt repayment has been suspended for six months? 300 members of Traffic Management Agency have been sent packing. 800 members of Volunteer Peace Corps have been relieved of their jobs.‎

“Social Security scheme for 20,000 old people receiving N5000 every month each has been cancelled. This is apart from the over 20,000 Youth Volunteers earning N10,000 monthly who have also been disengaged by Fayose.

“Many of the youth who were trained in various skills under the Fayemi administration by Odua Skills Acquisition Centre have been abandoned by Fayose while the programme has been replaced with a pedestrian concept of stomach infrastructure,” Olatubosun explained.

The APC spokesman also noted that many permanent secretaries had lost their jobs while allowances to traditional rulers had been cut even as running grants to civil servants had also been cut to save costs, wondering why the governor should still be complaining of paucity of funds in the face of savings from these cancellations.

He added: “‎Teachers’ special allowances for rural postings and core subjects have been abolished while workers, including primary and secondary school teachers, who were promoted since April last year, had their promotions reversed.

“The security agencies are no longer well-funded, leading to the current armed robbery cases across the state. Streetlights are turned off at 10.00 pm on the excuse of the cost of fuel, thus ‎paralyzing nightlife and causing insecurity as well as putting in jeopardy late night business activities in the state capital,” he explained.

Olatubosun said the governor with a three-man cabinet should explain in transparent manner how he is spending Ekiti money, including ‎the N22b refund from the Federal Government and N2b Ecological Fund he later admitted collecting after two months of denial.
