    Police arrests two hotel staff for $17,000 theft, 11 others

    The FCT Police Command have arrested two suspects for their alleged involvement in the theft of over $17,000 from the hotel room of a guest.

    The suspects who work as house keepers in one of the hotels in Asokoro area of Abuja stole the money from their victim.

    According to the Police, the suspects, Charles Ornguga and Festus Bekee changed the money into Naira and used it to purchase household appliances.

    Some of the things they bought with the money include; flat screen television,  refrigerator, CD home theatre, air conditioning, four burner gas cooker, microwave oven and stabilizer.

    This was disclosed in Abuja yesterday by the Command Spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah during the parade of the suspects.

    Other suspects paraded are; Joseph Ayuba, John Paul Okoh, Emmanuel Friday, Moses Eze, Bulus Luka, Obiara Echezona Anthony,  Abdullahi Aminu, Bamidele Adams, Philip Sabelo,  Fraku Adamu, and Felix Omotayo.

    Items recovered from them include;  two locally made pistol, one AK 47 rifle, 36 rounds of live ammunition, one Mazda car with registration number ABJ788AH, two phones, one black bag, one rope, some wraps of weeds, one berreta pistol, one iron bar, one knife, one saw, one chisel, and cutlass.

    Four of the suspects, Joseph Ayuba, John Paul Okoh, Emmanuel Friday, and Moses Eze were said to be responsible for the death of Barrister  Efosa Edwin Roland.

    Breifing Journalists about their operation, the Command’s Spokesman,  Manzah said: “Police Operatives attached to the Command Special Anti-Robbery Squad  (SARS), arrested members of a notorious armed robbery gang who stabbed late Barrister Roland.

    “They stabbed him on the chest and robbed him of his car on the 8th of November, 2017  at about 2350hrs. The victim who was rushed to National hospital by Police operatives unfortunately he died at the same hospital on the 9th of November, at about 0445hrs while receiving treatment.

    “As a result of discreet police investigation, four suspects linked to the incident have been arrested but one of the suspects Moses Eze who sustained gun wound on his leg while trying to escape police arrest died while receiving treatment in the hospital”.

    Manzah also said that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.

    Wuse Market Mayhem: No life lost, says Police

    A commercial driver was allegedly shot by members of the FCT Joint Task Force Wednesday in Abuja.

    The situation, which resulted to a riot by drivers around the market caused panic and unrest.

    The FCT Police Command has however said no one was killed in the riot adding that no one was injured in the incident.

    The police in a statement by the Command Spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah also said normalcy has been restored to the area adding that hoodlums who were trying to take advantage of the situation have been arrested.

    The statement reads: “The FCT Police Command wishes to assure members of the Public that normalcy has been restored at Wuse and its environs following a misunderstanding that broke out between operatives of the Directorate of Road Transport Services (VIO) Taskforce and cab operators close to Wuse market.

    “While the Command reiterates its commitment to protect lives and property in the Federal Capital Territory, members of the public are advised to always follow the right channel in expressing their grievances instead of resorting to self-help and causing damage to property.”

    On the killing, Manzah explained: “Contrary to speculations making the rounds, members of the public should note that no life was lost nor was anybody injured from the fracas and the situation has been brought under control.

    “It is also pertinent to state that some hoodlums who were trying to take advantage of the false rumour to cause problem in FCT have been arrested and investigation is in progress.”

    The Command assured residents to go about their lawful businesses as adequate security measures has been deployed to protect lives and property in the territory.

    Police nabs 37 for armed robbery, car snatching, others

    The FCT Police Command have arrested 37 suspected armed robbers, bag snatchers, and others.

    Some of the suspects paraded include; Godwin Samson,  Joshua Nayelwa, Solomon Yakubu, Moses Marshal Moses, Emmanuel Gambo, Manu Abdullahi, Musilumu Abba, Yahaya Musa, and  Shagari Ibrahim.

    Items recovered from them include seven firearms, nine ammunition, eight stolen cars, six motorcycles,  six phones, three big stones, knife, handbags and other items.

    One of the suspects who is an ex-convict is said to specialize in blocking the road with big stones in order to rob motorists of their valuables.

    Some other suspects pretend to be Taskforce officials and dispossess motorcyclists of their motorcycles.

    Speaking on the activities of some of the suspects, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Sadiq Bello yesterday said: “On the 25th of October at about 2300hrs, Police operatives on surveillance patrol along city gate arrested one Godwin Samson who is notorious for robbing motorists around city gate by using stones to block the road.

    “The suspect operates mostly at night from 2100hrs, many people have lost their cash, phones, laptops and other valuables to this desperate criminal.

    “Preliminary police investigation reveals that the suspect was an ex-convict who served his six months jail term at Keffi prison for the offence of phone theft.”

    Bello said the investigation is ongoing and the suspect and others would be charged to the court upon completion of the investigation.

    On how he operates, Samson said: “I started this business two years ago after my wife and baby died in the hospital. Hunger led me into this because things were too tight for me.

    “I  started with phone theft but I was later arrested and I served six months in jail. It was when I came back from prison that I started the business of blocking the road. I keep it on the road in order for motorists to run into it.”

    On why he continued after making small money, Samson said: “I continued to do this business because
    I have not made enough money.”

    How we rescued Charly Boy, others from mob – Police

    The FCT Police Command has explained the role it played in the rescue of Charles Oputa who is popularly known as Charly Boy.

    Charly Boy; the Leader of the #ResumeOrResignprotest against President Muhammadu Buhari’s continued medical vacation in the UK was attacked on Tuesday in Wuse Market by angry mobs.

    The attack led to closure of the market by the market management.

    The police also said their intervention prevented the mob from burning two cars belonging to Charley Boy and his membership.

    This is contained in a statement in Abuja Wednesday by Command Spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah.

    The police also said the Divisional Police Officer Utako, CSP Jimoh Gbenle and several other policemen were injured while trying to rescue the protesters.

    The statement reads: “FCT Police Command has rescued Charles Oputa aka Charlie-boy and other members of the Concerned Citizens Group from being lynched by an angry mob who attacked them during their mobilisation campaign at Wuse market on Tuesday 15th August, 2017.

    “Prior to the unfortunate incident, the group assembled at Unity Fountain and addressed the press at 0945hrs where massive security was provided by police operatives. However, the group left Unity Fountain and headed to the busy Wuse Market in a bid to mobilise support; this police was not notified.

    “While at Wuse Market, the group was attacked by a mob and in response to a distress call the Police moved in and rescued Charly-boy and his co-travellers.

    “The Police was also able to prevent the angry mob from burning a Prado jeep and a BMW car belonging to Charlie boy and his members.

    “The vehicles which were towed by the Police to Wuse Division were later released to Charlie boy and his team”.

    On some of those injured, the statement stated: “In the process of protecting and securing Charlie boy and his group members from the hands of the mob, many policemen were injured including the Divisional Police Officer Utako, CSP Jimoh Gbenle.”

    Normalcy has however returned to Wuse Market and all other parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

    The Command while stating that it has deployed uniform and plain-cloth policemen in all flash points to forestall any breach of the peace also urged  protesters to always liaise with them so as to provide them necessary security and proffer necessary advice.

    Jonathan’s home: Police dismisses four for theft

    The FCT Police Command has dismissed four policemen for their involvement in the theft of property belonging to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

    The policemen who were on guard duty at the Gwarinpa residence of Jonathan stole movable items including furniture sets, beds, electronics, toilet electrical fittings and internal doors and frames.

    The affected men were dismissed after an Orderly Room trial.

    The dismissed policemen are; F/No. 436691 Sgt Musa Musa, F/No. 235422 Sgt John Nanpak, F/No. 261898 Sgt Ogah Audu and F/No. 425210 Sgt Gabriel Ugah.

    The police also  said the case of two other policemen, AP/No.141199 Inspr Lengs Satlakau and AP/No. 150566 Inspr Usman Wuduki  involved in theft has been forwarded to AIG Zone 7 for further action.

    This is contained in a statement in Abuja Thursday by the Command Spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah.

    The Command explained that their dismissal was in compliance with the vision of IGP Ibrahim Idris to rid the Nigeria Police Force of criminal elements.

    The statement reads: “In fulfilment of the promise by the FCT Police Command to make public its findings on the investigation of the case of theft at the Gwarimpa residence of Former president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, the Command wishes to state that in line with first schedule of police Act and regulation 370 Cap 19, the Policemen guarding the house have been tried in an orderly room proceeding and found culpable of the offence.

    “Sequel to the out-come of the orderly room proceeding, the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Musa Kimo has approved the immediate dismissal of the Policemen.”

    The Command while stating that the main culprit, Sgt. Musa would be charged to court upon completion of investigation added that efforts are being intensified to arrest his accomplice, Mallam Shuaibu who is currently at large.

    Jonathan’s Burgled Home: Police detains personnel on guard duty

    Following reports that the Gwarinpa home of former President Goodluck Jonathan has been burgled, the FCT Police Monday said it has detained some of its personnel on guard duty.

    Although the Police declined to give the figure of those detained, the police said the detention of the personnel would help to ascertain the true position of things.

    The Command also said preliminary investigation revealed that some items were missing from the residence.

    This is contained in a statement in Abuja Monday by the Command Spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah.

    The statement read: “The FCT police Command wishes to inform the general public that it has commenced full-fledge investigation into the case of theft in the Gwarinpa residence of former president, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan,GCFR.

    “Preliminary police investigation on the matter has revealed that some items were found to be missing in the house.

    “Meanwhile, the Policemen who are supposed to be on guard duty at the house have been detained for questioning. Investigation to find out what actually happened is currently in progress”.

    The Command also assured members of the public that the result of findings on the on-going investigation would be made public.

    Police arrest suspected Boko Haram member in Abuja

    The FCT Police Command have arrested a suspected member of Boko Haram.

    The suspects, Seth Yakubu; an indigene of Obi Local Government Area of Nassarawa State was arrested on Sunday after the Police received a tip-off of his suspicious behaviour.

    The police said the suspect confessed to being the second in Command in his unit adding that he fled Sambisa Forest after the major air strike by the Nigeria Air Force.

    Breifing Journalists in Abuja Monday about Yakubu’s operation, the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Musa Kimo said: “Yesterday at 11:30am, Seth Yakubu was arrested at Gwako village in Gwagwalada Council of the FCT after the Police received a tip-off of his suspicious and strange behaviour by community members.

    “Upon interrogation, he confessed to his membership of the Boko Haram group. He said he escaped to the village from Sambisa Forest after their hideout was dislodged by the Nigeria Air Force through major air strikes about a week ago.

    “He also confessed to being the Second in Command in his unit adding that he actively participated in several deadly attacks launched by the group against innocent citizens.
    “He left Maiduguri on Friday and arrived Gwako village on Saturday at about 10:00am to conceal his identity and seek for refuge.”

    Kimo added that the suspect said he was lured to join the group in October 2016 by a young man who approached him with a promise of an automatic employment into the Nigeria Army.

    The CP while warning desperate job seekers to be careful of where they seek employment added that investigation was ongoing and the suspect would be arraigned in court upon completion of investigation.

    Speaking on how he joined the group, Yakubu said: “I was given Army recruitment form to fill last year and after I filled it, I sent it back to my friend who in turn returned it to the person who gave the form to him.

    “On the 10th of October, they promised to take us down to Zaria for training and I went to Zaria for Army training. After we were done with the training, they gave us a substance to take. They told us that it would change our mindset.

    “After we took the substance, they told us that we were not recruits of the Nigeria Army but that we are amongst those that would assist Boko Haram fight Nigeria Army in order to turn the whole state and the country into an Islamic country.”

    When asked where the training was conducted, Yakubu said: “We were trained in a depot in Zaria”.

    FCT: Police arrest 4 suspected armoured cable thieves, armed robbers

    The FCT Police Command had arrested four suspected armoured cable thieves and vandals cutting electric cables at a transformer at the Games village, Abuja on June 21.

    The suspects are: Jonathan Duru, Chinedu Okafor, Uchena Eke and Ifeanyi Nnaji al of Mpape area of Abuja.

    The Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Mr Musa Kimo, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on the efforts of the command to curb crime in the territory.

    Kimo said items recovered from the suspects include, two diggers, two shovels, one hand saw and electric cables.

    He said that the suspects were arrested by operatives of the anti-crime patrol team in Wuye division of Abuja following a tip-off.

    The commissioner said that the suspects, who had confessed to the crime, are currently being interrogated and would be charged to court as soon as investigation was concluded.

    In a related development, Kimo said that the command had also arrested an armed robbery suspect, Michael Olowu, 25,OF Kubwa area of Abuja.

    He said that the suspect was arrested on June 20 by operatives on surveillance, following a distress call put across to them.

    “The suspect and five others at large were operating at the residence of Olayinola Ayeni of Lavister court estate Apo when the police arrived and they took to their heels,“he said.

    The commissioner said suspect confessed to the crime and said they belong to a dreaded syndicate of armed robbers terrorising Kabusa and its environs.

    He said that investigation into the case was ongoing as the suspect had given useful information that would lead to the arrest of other fleeing members of the syndicate.

    Kimo said that items recovered from the suspect include, four locally made pistol, live cartridge, one cutlass, one Techno cell phone and two laptops.

    He said that the suspect would be charged to court for prosecution at the conclusion of investigation.

    The commissioner pledged that the command would make the territory inhabitable for all criminals to operate.

    “This success is the product of the proactive approach to crime fighting adopted by the FCT police command,“ he said.

    He enjoined residents of the territory to always give the police useful information to provide adequate security for them.

  • FCT CP reassures FCT high court Judge continuous cooperation

    The FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr. Musa Kimo, has reassured the Chief Judge of the FCT high court, Justice Jacob Ishak, of continued cooperation of the command in expediting court orders.

    The command’s Spokesman, ASP Usen Omorodion, said in a statement that Kimo gave the assurance during a visit to the Judge in Abuja on Wednesday.

    The commissioner said the visit was to build on the existing partnership between the FCT high court and the FCT Police command.

    Earlier, Ishak said that the court would continue to collaborate with the command in providing legal assistance and building the command’s image.

    He noted that the command and the court had enjoyed a robust working relationship.

    The Judge commended Kimo for his achievements as the commissioner of police in the FCT and other positions he had held.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kimo was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the command’s Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID), Bala Ciroma, and Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Babaita Ishola.

    Others are: the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of  Operations, Arungwa Nwazue, and the Officer in charge of Legal department, CSP James Idachaba.

    Police recovers 109 cows, 29 sheep; others from armed robbers

    The FCT Police Command have recovered 109 cows, 29 sheep and others from an armed robbery gang that specialize in cattle rustling.

    The police also recovered one pump action gun and two live cartridges from the gang.

    According to the police, the recovery was made after a gun battle between members of the gang and operatives of the Police.

    The gun battle according to a statement in Abuja Thursday by the FCT Command Spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah led to the death of one of gang members and fleeing of other members.

    The statement reads: “Poised to combat crime and frustrate criminals out of circulation, a gallant teamof Police operatives attached to Kwali Divisional Headquarters on patrol at Kwali village has dislodged and recovered one pump action gun, two live cartridges, 109 cows and 29 sheep from a dare devil armed robbery syndicate which specialises in cattle rustling.

    “The syndicate which was reported to have rustled some cows and sheep from a community in Niger state were intercepted at Kwali village on Wednesday 26/04/17 at about 1:00amwhere a fierce gun battle ensued between them and the Police patrol team.

    “As a result of the professionalism, gallantry and superior gun power of the Police Patrol team, one of the hoodlums was shot dead while five of his accomplices fled the scene with varying degree of bullet wounds.”

    The commissioner of Police FCT, CP Musa Kimo has however ordered for a massive manhunt for the fleeing suspects.

    He also commended the Police operatives for their bravery and gallantry that led to the dislodging of the notorious cattle rustling syndicate.
