  • FCT Police arrest five armed robbery suspects

    The FCT Police Command said on Tuesday that it had arrested five notorious armed robbery suspects and a car snatching syndicate.

    The suspects are: John Peter, 30, gang leader, Solomon Atabo, 33, Salisu Suleiman, 29, Olobo Rilwan, 25, and Emeka Umera, 34.

    The FCT Police Commissioner, Mr. Musa Kimo, who presented the suspect to newsmen, said they were arrested through the inter-agency collaboration initiative of the command.

    He explained that Peter was arrested by the police after he went into hiding on hearing that four of his members were arrested on March 6 by the Army and transferred to the command for investigation.

    Kimo said that eight locally made pistols used for the operation were recovered from the suspects.

    He said that the suspects who had all confessed to the crime would be charged to court on conclusion of investigation.

    In a related development, Kimo said the police had arrested an armed robbery/murder suspect, Obinna Echianu, 42, who hailed from  Aba in  Abia.

    Kimo said that the suspect was arrested by police attached to the command’s special anti-kidnapping squad at Apo mechanic village, Abuja on March 13.

    He said the suspect killed a cab operator who he hired on Dec. 22, 2016 at the Berger junction to convey him and his members now at large, to Airport road in Abuja.

    Kimo said the victim was murdered at the Gosa pedestrian bridge after being robbed of his phone, cash and Nissan Almera car which was driven to his house in Aba.

    The commissioner said the suspect confessed to have personally killed the deceased with the help of his cohort who was at large.

    “Efforts have been intensified to arrest his cohort who is now at large,“he said.

    Kimo said the suspect would be arraigned in court on conclusion of investigation into the crime.

    The commissioner said that the command had also arrested four suspected kidnappers linked with the kidnapping of a Fulani girl at Wumi village, in Gwagwalada area of Abuja on March 19.

    The suspects are : Abdullahi Sanda, 25, Abubakar Muhammad,30, Shehu Usman, 30, and Usman Abubakar.

    He said that the suspects were arrested with one locally made revolver and two locally made single barrel gun.

    Kimo said that the suspects were members of a notorious syndicate of kidnappers and cattle rustlers who specialised in laying siege at Fulani settlements to take their victims.

    He added that the suspects were intercepted and arrested at Wumi while trying to escape after kidnapping one of their female victims who was rescued by the police.

    “The suspects have been transferred to the command special anti-kidnapping squad for further investigation,” he said.

    Other suspects arrested according to the commissioner included eight members of a cult.

    The suspects are: Emeka Ani, Felix Oje, Promise Ezubuike, Efiong Chidi, Paul Chinedu, David Elkana,Ikechukwu Okoro and Osinachi Anyanwu.

    He said the suspects were arrested on March 23 by the police attached to Karimo division, after a tip-off from members of Angwan Shehu village in Karmo, Abuja.

    Kimo said the suspects had been terrorising and robbing the residents of the village.

    He said that items recovered from them include one pick axe and a beret.

    He said the suspects had been transferred to the command’s Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID) for discreet investigation  and prosecution.

    The commissioner said that the achievements were a result of hard work and dedication of the command to fulfill its constitutional mandate.

    He commended the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, for his unflinching support to the command.

    The FCT Police Command has disclosed that investigation into the murder of Late Deaconess Eunice Olawale is still on.

    Late Eunice Olawale was killed in Kubwa, a suburb area of the FCT in July while she was doing morning cry.

    The deceased left behind her husband, Pastor Elisha Olawale and seven children; Jessica, Michael, Christian, Rachael, Janet, Rebecca and Emmanuel.

    The Command also disclosed that it has arrested 421 suspects in connection with different offences and recovered over N3million in the last three months.

    The police said during the period of three months, it also conducted 200 raids and arrested 408 persons.

    Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday during the presentation of his Scorecard to relevant stakeholders at the Command Headquarters, the FCT Commissioner of Police (CP), Mohammad Mustafa said: “the police is not silent about it, though it did not happen during my time but I held three meetings and coincidentally, the investigator is now the DPO in Kubwa.So, he has been challenged to unravel the crime and by the grace of God, we will be through with the case soon.

    “We have also been working very hard, we have had a lot of raids and one day, we will overcome them soon”.

    Highlighting some of his achievements, the CP said: “We have been able to arrest 106 armed  robbers, 213 thieves, 27 car snatchers/thieves, 27 one chance/fraudsters, two cattle rustlers, four motorcycle snatchers, 14 cultists, 20 homicide and eight vandals.

    On the exhibits recovered, he said: “We were able to recover N3,012,492, 42 firearms, 250 ammunitions, 27 bags of Indian hemp, 72 vehicles, 44 motorcycles, 201 valuables items, 87 armoured cables and 13 dangerous weapons”.

    On the number of raids conducted, he said: “we conducted 200 raids, and 408 suspects were arrested, 216 suspects were prosecuted, 461 cases are ongoing while 247 conviction were secured”.

    Commenting on the continuous presence of herdsmen in the FCT, Mustafa said: “they have promised to be out of very many places and I think that gradually, they will be out. They are in limited places now and they will soon be out completely.

    As the Yuletide draws near, the CP also hinted that the Command has put in place necessary measures to secure the city and its environs.

    “We are ready for the yuletide, so all is well. We are ready, we have restrategized, our operation orders for the yuletide period is out and you know the population in the FCT will reduce during the yuletide but we will still protect their houses. So, we are on top of it and we are planning well”, he said.

    FCT Police arrest suspected kidnappers, car snatchers

    The FCT Police Command on Monday in Abuja said it had arrested three suspected members of a notorious kidnapping and car snatching syndicate.

    The suspects are: Alhaji Isah Aliu, Labaran Abubakar and Abdullahi Ishaq.

    Presenting the suspects to newsmen, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr Muhammad Mustafa, said that among the suspects was the leader of the gang.

    “Among those arrested is a notorious car snatcher and leader of the gang who recruits the hoodlums and supplies them with arms and ammunition to carry out operations for him,“ he said.

    Mustapha said that the suspects were part of suspects presented to newsmen recently who kidnapped their victim from Maitama and took her to a guest inn in Sokoto state where she was rescued by Police operatives.

    “The FCT Police Command has successfully cracked down and arrested other members of the syndicate who were at large,“ he said.

    He said that the command had intensified effort to recover the victim’s Toyota Rav4 car and one other Toyota venza all parked at the gang’s hideout in Niger Republic.

    In a related development, Mustafa said that the command had arrested Dr Kalu Nwachukwu, a consultant Gynecologist who has been alleged to have taken undue advantage of his female patients.

    He said that his arrest followed a report on Aug. 4 of unethical conduct.

    The commissioner said that the suspect confessed to have had sexual affair with some of his female patients who came to him for treatment or consultation in his office and other locations

    “Investigations also revealed that the suspect uses drugs to induce his victim in order to have intercourse with them,“ he said.

    He said that the suspect was been arraigned in the court.

    The commissioner said that other arrests and recovery made by the command included three notorious fraudsters, `one chance` fraudsters and motorcycle thieves.

    Others are; armoured cables, 14 motorcycles, cell phones, and one television set among others.

    He advised members of the public to ensure they carried out thorough background check on the credibility of the doctors they engaged as their personal or family physicians.
