  • Woman found dead inside room with two fetish pots

    A middle aged woman, fondly called Toyin, was on Thursday found dead in her room in Akure, the Ondo state capital.

    According to sources, Toyin, said to be a food seller at the popular Tipper garage area, Isinkan quarters, Akure had already finished cooking for the day as usual but could not come out as at 6am for business.

    The development forced her neigbbours to force her door opened and found her lifeless body inside the room with two calabash containing concoction.

    It was learnt that, her phone was checked and discovered that she made calls to a person registered with ‘Alpha’ on the phone at exactly 1am and 3am consecutively.

    Toyin, a mother of three, was said to be living alone in her face-to-face apartment, after having issues with her husband.

    She was also said to have been preparing for the pending court case scheduled for April 18, with her divorced husband over who should take charge of the children.

    Family, neighbours and sympathizers stormed the house, expressing shock over Toyin’s mysterious death, stressing that she was hale and hearty the previous night.

    Police spokesman, Femi Joseph, a Superintendent of Police (SP) could not be reached for comments on the incident.

     

  • Kidnapping: Ondo Police comb Owo forests

    Men of the Ondo State Police Command on Saturday embarked on a massive raid of suspected criminal hideouts especially kidnappers within the state.

    The development was in an attempt to take the battle of crime detention and prevention to doorsteps of hoodlums.

    The operation was led by the State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adeyanju also involved the Deputy Commissioner of Police(DCP) Operations,  Abdullahi Mudashiru ,  Mobile men,Anti-cultism squad, and men of Federal Anti Robbery Squad among others.

    According to the Police Spokesman in the state, Femi Joseph, the thick forest of Amorin and Uso communities  near Owo and adjoining bushes were massively raided .

    He said some of the miscreants on sighting the police fled while their hideout were dismantled.

    Joseph said the villagers commended the police and pledged their co-operation with them in their efforts to completely rid the state of crimes and criminality.

    He said” the statement is loud and clear that the days of criminals are numbered in the state as the CP promised the sustainability of this exercise throughout the state.

    Joseph added that men of the anti-kidnapping section have prevented a kidnap attempt in Ore,headquarters of Odigbo local government.

    Similarly,he said when acting on a tip off , the police engaged a gang of kidnappers who on sighting the police opened fire at them.

    In the process, he said one of the hoodlums was hacked down by the police while others fled into the bush with bullet wounds.

  • Unknown persons kill 18 year-old in Ondo

    An unknown persons have reportedly killed a girl identified as Oluwaseun Ajila in Ijoka area of Akure, the Ondo State capital on Thursday evening.

    Sources said the 18-year-old deceased was stabbed to death by the unknown assailants.

    It was learnt that the mother of the deceased, Mrs. Yemisi Ajayi, raised the alarm over the incident when she returned from work on the fateful day.

    According to the source “The mother of the deceased returned from work, and met her daughter’s lifeless body on the floor in the pool of blood. She immediately called the attention of the neighbors to it.

    ” There were different wounds on her body which indicated that someone must have fought with her inside the room and stabbed her to death. ”

    The State Police Command has arrested the boyfriend of the deceased, Ebenezer Adedimola over the incident.

    Police spokesman, Femi Joseph, who confirmed the incident said it was Mrs. Ajayi ( deceased’s mother) that reported the matter at a police station.

    He said, “The bereaved mother suspected her boyfriend because he had a misunderstanding with her recently.

    However , he said they have commenced investigation on the incident,stressing that perpetrators would be brought to book.

  • Hit and Run driver kills FUTA student

    A 200 level first class student of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Deborah Olajide has been reportedly  killed by a hit and run driver.

    The development sparked protest by her colleague as the university community was thrown into mourning.

    Police spokesman in the state, Femi Joseph said the main cause of the student’s death was unknown.

    However, he assured that the state police command would investigate the incident, urging the students to remain calm.

    Joseph said “the lifeless body of the deceased student was found by the road side which gave the impression that she might have been knocked down by a hit and run driver. But, we are not certain about the real cause of her death.”

    Late Olajide was said to be a 200 level student in the department of Food Science and Technology of the university.

    The deceased was described as very brilliant and lived off campus of the institution.

    A procession had been held in his honour by he colleague,which caused traffic gridlock for several hours on the major Akure-Ilesa road.

    Ondo road crash claims 10 lives, five others injured

    No fewer than 10 persons yesterday reportedly lost their lives while five were critically injured in a fatal road accident at Agbogbo Area along Akure/Owo road in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

    Eyewitness said the carnage involved a Toyota 14-passenger commercial bus with registration number Plateau PKN 63 XA with another commercial Mercedes Benz bus with registration number Abuja 561 KWL.

    The incident was said to have occurred at about 5.am but eye witness could not say exactly the cause of the fatal accident.
    However, the position of the two vehicles involved in the accident indicated that it was a head-on-collision.

    One of the buses was said to heading to Abuja from Lagos while the second one was coming from Jos, Plateau State.

    The eyewitness said, ” We just heard a very loud bang and quickly rushed to the scene where we met the two buses in the accident while the passengers were trapped inside one of the buses. Many of them were already dead. “

    It was gathered that the men of the Ondo State Police Command and their counterparts from the Federal Road Safety Corps ( FRSC ) took the deceased to the morgue of the State Specialists Hospital, Akure while the injured were receiving treatment at the hospital.

    The identity of the victims of the accident were yet unknown as at press time.

    The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Femi Joseph confirmed the incident, saying it was caused by reckless driving and dangerous overtaking on the parts of the vehicles involved.

    He urged motorists to always be mindful of the road rules and regulations.

    Youths suspected to be National Youths Service Corps Members serving in Ikaram-Akoko, Akoko Northwest local government area of Ondo state have been reportedly arrested by security operatives.

    They were alleged of blackmailing women in the community, inviting them to hotels, taking their photographs and threatening to relay it on social media, if they failed to cooperate with them.

    Sources said they also allegedly demanded their Automated Teller Machine (ATM) details to deflate their respective bank accounts.

    It was learnt that the development was reported to security operatives that quickly swung into action and arrested the culprits.

    The Akala of Ikaram-Akoko, Oba Andrew Momodu confirmed the development, describing it as ridiculous especially from Youth Corp members, who are future leaders.

    According to the monarch,it was some soldiers,led by a captain that came for their arrest. 

    He said the suspects were fond of committing various atrocities in the locality such as collecting money under false pretence, threatening to record and play video of women during intercourse and others.

    Another community leader, Alhaji Basiru Aminu described the situation at Ikaram-Akoko as the highest level of moral decadence in the society, which he said must be totally condemned by the public.

    According to Aminu, who is the chairman, Nigerian Council for Islamic Affairs (NCIA)in Akoko Northwest, the suspects have been indulging in such criminal acts with impunity in the community.

    He urged law enforcement agents to ensure that they face prosecution if found guilty after investigation to serve as deterrent to others in such act.

    Sources alleged that the suspects were later handed over to the police for prosecution after their arrest, but the Divisional Police Officer(DPO) Akoko Northwest and the State Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) Femi Joseph denied the claim, stressing that they had not been briefed on the matter as at press time.

    Efforts to speak with the Assistant Army Public Relations Officer,Owena Barracks, Captain Ojo Adelegan were abortive. His lines were inactive.

    Ondo police command loses officer

    The Ondo State Police Command has lost one of its police officers,identified as Mustapha Aminu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

    He was the Acting Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Yaba Division, Ondo town.

    While the State Command said the late officer died in an auto-crash some officers who spoke in confidence said he died in a controversial circumstances while on his sleep.

    The late Mustapha  was transferred from Irele division within the state to Yaba-Ondo last week.

    He was however said to be facing some administrative hurdles in his new station.

    An officer with the station who preffered anonymity said a fetish object known as “ebo” in yoruba was last week placed in front of the DPO’s office.

    The source said this necessitated an emergency prayer meeting at the vicinity of the station against any misfortune among the rank and file officers.

    Mustapha who was hale and healthy before going to bed on saturday later died in his sleep at Irele where he stays with his family.

    But the state police spokesman, Femi Joseph dismissed reports that DSP Aminu died in his sleep.

    Joseph said the late officer whom he described as very hardworking died in a car crash at Omifon axis on the way to Irele after the closing hour.

    He also described as mischievous reports that fetish object was placed in front of his office last week.

    Joseph commiserated with the family of the late officer, saying his death was a big blow and loss to the command.

    A visit to the station yesterday morning, revealed a depressive mood of men and officers of the command, wearing mournful look and discussing the sudden death of their colleague.

    The Ondo State Police Command has reportedly rescued three victims in a bush at Oba-Akoko in Akoko Southwest Local Government Area.

    The three were among five persons abducted penultimate Thursday by gunmen during their journey from Southeast to Abuja.

    The police said they also rescued a groom, Moses Yakubu, and his friend, who were abducted eight days ago at Akunnu on their way to Akure for an engagement.

    Police spokesman Femi Joseph said the police were trailing the abductors.

    He said the police would rescue the others.

    Suspected gunmen reportedly abducted Yakubu, his bride, best man and two others last Sunday.

    They were said to be on their way to Akure from Okene in Kogi State, for an engagement.

    They held the groom, and others but freed the bride and her younger sister.

    Also, five travellers were reportedly abducted by gunmen at Oba Akoko in Akoko at the weekend.

    The identities of the victims were unknownlast night.

    Sources said the victims were coming from Lagos and heading to Abuja.

    Police spokesman Femi Joseph said they rescued five victims on Saturday.

    Joseph said men of the command swung into action after they were informed, adding that the police rescued the victims.

    He said: “We were able to rescue Moses Yakubu and Mark Shaibu, who were kidnapped while going for a wedding ceremony last week.”

    Policeman commits suicide after killing colleague

    A police inspector, Abraham Aro, who allegedly shot dead his senior colleague simply identified as Timothy, has reportedly killed himself by jumping into a well.

    The incident occurred on Wednesday at the Police Divisional Headquarters, Kajola in Odigbo local government area of Ondo State.

    The development has thrown the community into confusion.

    No reason was given for the murder of the police officer by his junior colleague.

    The police officer’s remains had been deposited at the mortuary at the General Hospital, Ore, after the Ondo Area Commander led a team of police officers to the scene of the incident.

    The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Femi Joseph, confirmed the report, saying investigation has commenced on the incident.

    Police arrest four in Ondo ritualists’ hideout

    Ondo State Police command on Tuesday paraded four suspected criminals arrested at a recently discovered ritualists’ hideout in Akure, the state capital.

    The building sited near the Ondo State House of Assembly was discovered on Monday.

    The spokesman of the state police command, Femi Joseph, who paraded the criminals, said three of the suspects were ex-convicts.

    He said the criminals were arrested following a tip-off by members of the public.
