If anyone challenges an election before INEC announces, it should not be Fintiri, Adamawa State Governor. He it was who survived the impunity of Hudu Ari, who did the same thing against him.

The man is facing the consequences of his action. Fintiri is doing same to challenge Edo governorship elections. He is acting like a gangster who is becoming one because he was made by one. He should know that once the process says it, the only other option is the court. Not freelance impunity. For now, it is finito.

Edo 2024: PDP Governors’ Forum backs Fintiri, urges INEC to uphold integrity

The PDP Governors’ Forum has refuted accusations from the APC, which alleged interference by PDP governors in INEC’s duties.

In a statement released by the Forum’s chairman, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, who also serves as the Governor of Bauchi State, the Forum clarified that Governor Fintiri merely referenced results that were already publicly accessible on the INEC IREV portal, aiming to prevent any form of manipulation.

“We are satisfied that our colleagues as led by His Excellency Governor Ahmadu Fintiri simply stated the results of a few local government areas as were already collated and captured on the INEC IREV portal, to forestall any manipulation by unscrupulous elements and, ultimately, averting a situation that could throw the exercise into disrepute and the nation into political jeopardy.

“Therefore, the public is advised to disregard the mischievous accusation by the APC that anyone usurped INEC’s responsibility, let alone distinguished Nigerians who are governors in their respective states.

“We stand with our Governors, H/E Fintiri, H/E Diri, H/E Agbu Kefas, and H/E Oborevwori of Adamawa, Bayelsa, Taraba, and Delta States respectively, on all the actions and positions that they have taken on our behalf, concerning maintaining the sanctity of the election,” the Forum stated.

The PDP Governors Forum commended the people of Edo State for their strong participation in the 2024 governorship election, highlighting the achievements of outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki and the qualifications of the PDP’s candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, as key influences on voter decisions.

As the collation process continues, the Forum urged INEC to uphold its integrity and dedication to democracy, stressing the importance of an impartial and transparent electoral process.

“We remind INEC of the need to live up to the expectations of the people, to serve as an impartial umpire committed to deepening our multi-party democracy,” the statement urged.

The PDP governors further reaffirmed their dedication to democratic principles and the peace and stability of Nigeria.

“We look forward to the announcement of a result that truly represents the wishes of the Edo people as freely expressed through their votes,” the statement concluded

Fintiri pledges support for PDP chair Damagum amid party division

Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has pledged his full support for the acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Damagum, in a public statement on X.

This followed the sharp divisions within the party leadership over Damagum’s continued tenure.

Fintiri wrote: “Solidly in support of Amb. Umar Damagum as National Chairman of @OfficialPDPNig! His leadership has restored public confidence, and we are confident he will steer the party to greater heights,”

He further urged all members to: “respect the court ruling and uphold our democracy,” signalling his alignment with those favouring Damagum’s leadership.

Fintiri’s endorsement follows a widening split among PDP governors regarding whether to retain Damagum as the party chair.

On Tuesday, a faction of the National Working Committee (NWC) met with Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, who voiced dissatisfaction with Damagum’s leadership.

Mohammed stated that the party would seek to replace him, calling his tenure “untenable.”

According to Mohammed, the Northcentral zone is constitutionally entitled to fill the leadership vacancy, given that the chairmanship originated from that region.

“My brother from the Northeast is currently serving as Acting National Chairman, which is constitutionally inappropriate,” Mohammed remarked.

He emphasised the need for the party to: “ensure that the Northcentral is given the chance to assume this responsibility.”

However, a separate meeting led by Damagum and members of his NWC took place in Ibadan with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, where the acting chair received full support.

“Let me say clearly that we are 100 percent in support of the Damagum-led NWC,” Makinde declared during the event, adding that the faction was committed to “repositioning the party.”

Fintiri  to complete world-class stadium in Yola

The Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has pledged that his administration will ensure the completion of a magnificent stadium in the capital city, Yola before the end of March 2025.

Governor Fintiri made this pledge in Yola on Thursday, while receiving a delegation of the Nigeria Football Federation led by its President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, at the Government House.

“I want to thank you specially for this auspicious courtesy call. My administration has always been committed to constructing a befitting stadium, for the benefit of our teeming youth population in this State and the nation at large. Your coming will definitely hasten the pace of this project.

“Building the stadium is our own way of fighting poverty, youth restiveness and juvenile delinquency. We know that when the youth have the means of empowerment, and positive areas to channel their energy, all manner of vices and mischief reduce drastically in a society. We enjoin you to visit the site and advise the government appropriately on whichever aspects we have left out or have not set out properly, so that we can amend and incorporate those observations into the project.”

Earlier, Gusau had praised Governor Fintiri and his administration for the giant strides being made in several sectors in the State, and particularly expressed excitement at the latter’s expressed determination to conclude the project within a few months.

“Presently, we are experiencing hard times in our football with regards to stadia infrastructure. As I speak to you, we can only host our ‘A’ matches at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. Your commitment to completing the stadium here in record time will help Nigeria Football, and ultimately become a magnificent legacy of your administration.”

“Football is passion; football is life. It is the only factor that unifies all our peoples from different backgrounds and physical and mental divides. Sporting infrastructure enables the youth to be meaningfully and fruitfully engaged, and I assure you that the NFF will do whatever it can in terms of providing advice on configuration as the project moves ahead.”

Gusau also advised Governor Fintiri to sponsor an U17 Football Championship in the State, which will be organized by the Adamawa State Football Association, to unearth talents that can be nurtured from the grassroots to stardom.

It was learnt that the Adamawa New Stadium Complex had been glossed over by the three previous administrations in the State.

Fintiri, Kachikwu, Okocha: give President more time

    • PDP, Okupe, Ezekwesili, others differ on presidential broadcast

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Dumebi Kachikwu and Caretaker Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Tony Okocha yesterday urged Nigerians to give President Bola Ahmed Tinubu more time to implement his reforms aimed at revitalizing the economy.

They hailed the president’s speech to the nation, following the protests in some states against the economic crisis.

But the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Labour Party (LP) chieftain Dr. Doyin Okupe and former Minister of Education Dr. Oby Ezekwesili disagreed that President Tinubu’s address addressed the demand of the protesters.

Tinubu a listening leader, says Fintiri

Urging the protesters to end the action, Fintiri said President Tinubu is a listening leader who understood the feelings of the protesters, adding that he would address their grievances.

The governor, who made a broadcast to the people of the state, enjoined them to sustain the peace that had characterised the protest, assuring that the president would act in good time to assuage their suffering.

He said: “We shall work with you to make sure that the demands are attended to. The president is a listening leader.”

Reiterating his gratitude to the people for their orderly conduct in the four days of the protest, Fintiri said he was proud of them.

He said “there is so much we can achieve in an atmosphere of peace than we can in that of rancour and chaos.”

The governor however, urged President Tinubu to fulfil his pledge to address the issues that agitated Nigerians.

He said the demands of the protesters are clear and genuine, stressing that they deserve the attention of the Federal Government.

    Okocha: President’s speech comprehensive

Hailing the president’s speech, Okocha, who spoke in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State capital, said the address was thorough and comprehensive, adding that he highlighted the novel policies he has undertaken for rebuilding the economy.

Noting that Nigeria is passing through challenging times, Okocha expressed optimism that the government will tackle them and reposition the country.

He said “The President’s broadcast this morning (yesterday) was thorough and comprehensive. It showed a man who came prepared to preside over the affairs of Nigeria.

“We all can agree that prior to President Ahmed Tinubu’s adminsitration, Nigeria was in a doldrums, and  President Tinubu has initiated policies and programmes, and several other meaningful activities, geared towards taking the country away from the dungeons to our eldoraldo.”

    ‘Don’t instigate violence against Tinubu’

Kachikwu warned the opposition against instigating violence in the country, added that they should allow President Tinubu  to deliver on its mandate.

He urged the opposition to proffer solutions to the problems of the country rather than making scathing comments.

Kachikwu urged those against the government to allow the 2027 poll to determine the fate of the administration.

He advised protesters to halt their action and the destruction of public facilities.

Kachikwu said in a statement in Abuja: “What of those who lost elections, but like President Trump they won’t accept the result and move on? This is not a progressive attitude. We can’t burn down our country over elections that have been won and lost.

“The job of the opposition now is to oppose and propose, but what we are doing is only opposing without providing any solutions to our problems. Watch any advanced democracy and see how the opposition behaves. They have their stand and solution on all issues, and they will debate you night and day but here all we want to do is abuse Tinubu without offering any concrete solutions. This is not leadership.

“Nigerians lost a golden opportunity by not insisting on credible debates. Joe Biden has pulled out of the race because a single debate spotlighted his deficiencies, but here in Nigeria, we don’t care.

“We protested SARS arresting the so-called Yahoo boys and our youths on trumped up charges. Who are we deceiving? For how long would we keep on being mediocre about our civic duties?

“If you hate Tinubu so much, then, pressure the National Assembly to remove him or wait till the next elections. But heating up the body polity for the last one year and attempting to remove a democratically elected government through the back door is no different from a coup.”

Kachikwu urged the protesters to give peace a chance instead of engaging in mass looting and destruction of public utilities.

He added: “We can’t continue killing ourselves. Our streets flow with the blood of the innocent. Over 19 killed in this scam of a protest, all for what? No child of any politician or big man was killed. Just the poor, average Nigerian.

“Only their family members will cry and mourn for them quietly while those who have made billions from this scam laugh to the bank.”

Tinubu hasn’t disappointed Nigerians – Okupe

Okupe, a former presidential spokesman, said  President Tinubu has not disappointed Nigerians in his address to the nation.

The former Director-General of the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign Council, advised the protesters to end the protest.

Speaking with reporters in Lagos, he said: “President Bola Tinubu’s speech has not disappointed Nigerians in that for the first time, the president clearly stated the daunting economic situation his administration met on ground at inception.

“He also amplified the strenuous efforts made by his government to reduce the prevailing crippling and stagnating debt servicing ratio from 97 per cent of earned revenue to 68 per cent.

“In truth, this has been the major cause of our present economic woes and sufferings.

“It is now self-evident that if the fuel subsidy was not removed, it would have been impossible for the government to function.

“And the government will not be able to meet its obligations, without continuing the profligacy of massive and sustained borrowing to fund the subsequent national budgets.”

Okupe noted that the speech highlighted the achievements already accomplished by the  administration in 14 months.

He said: “Some of the most outstanding achievements of this administration, as contained in the speech, include “the more than doubling of the minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000 per month.’’

Okupe hailed the allocation of more than N45 billion to the students loan scheme and the raising of the national oil production capacity to more than 1.6 million barrels per day.

Okupe also highlighted the massive funding of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), which  are the engine of economic growth of any country.

He said: “It is also worthy to note from the speech the government’s commitment to reduce the prevailing high cost of living and also bring down the food inflation.

“This is through the temporary massive importation of foods and removal of tariffs and other import duties on  foods, drugs and medical supplies, amongst others, for the next six months.

“I personally believe that this administration’s scorecard or performance compares very well if not better than those of many administrations before it.”

He said that the increased amount of funds that Tinubu’s administration had directly made available to the states and local governments must make Nigerians to look beyond the Federal Government.

Okupe said that Nigerians must make the sub-nationalities to be more accountable for the huge sum of revenue inflow they receive from the Federation Account and other Federal Government intervention funds.

He said: “It is pertinent that we recognise that the Federal Government revenue is shared with 49 per cent going to the Federal Government while approximately 48 per cent goes to the states and local governments leaving some three per cent for ecological funds and derivation.”

Tinubu never addressed issues, says Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar said President Tinubu did not address the issues that led to the protest.

A statement  by his Media Office and by Paul Ibe said: “This address lacks credibility and fails to offer any immediate, tangible solutions to the Nigerian people; given the extensive publicity surrounding the protests and the threats issued by government officials against demonstrators, one would have expected President Tinubu to present groundbreaking reforms, particularly those aimed at reducing the exorbitant costs of governance.”

He added: “President Tinubu offered a superficial account of his so-called reforms, revealing his own tenuous grasp of policy as he failed to convince his audience.

“While the President has spoken, it is unfortunate that his words lack substance and respect for the protesters’ sentiments, leaving Nigerians with little faith in his reform agenda – if one exists at all.”

PDP: President should meet protesters’ demands

PDP Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba said in a statement in Abuja that the president’s speech can only be meaningful, if the demands of the protesters are met.

He said: “Mr. President’s speech failed to respond to the demand by the citizens for immediate measures to reduce the price of petroleum products, halt the fall of the Naira and urgent intervention in the provision of food items to starving Nigerians.

“It is equally shocking that the speech did not order an investigation into the brutal killing of unarmed Nigerians by certain unscrupulous operatives of the APC-controlled security agencies while demanding for good governance, protection, security and welfare, which are the primary purpose of government.”

Speech failed to connect, says Ezekwesili

Ezekwesili said President’s speech was underwhelming.

In an X post, she said the president missed the opportunity to placate Nigerians with sound answers and outline of convincing evidence-based actions.

The former minister said that the speech failed to connect to what the protesters were protesting about, adding that it was written out of a mindset that was focused on “getting back at our enemies”.

She wrote: “@officialABAT, As one of the millions of Nigerians who were at church when you delivered your late-in-coming speech to Citizens on the #EndBadGovernancelnNigeria protests, let me loudly say it was terribly underwhelming to read.”

Fintiri, Deputy vote in Adamawa coucil poll

Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and his Deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta voted on Saturday afternoon in the council election in the State.

The Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) is conducting election to elect chairmen and councillors for the 21 local government areas of the state.

The Governor voted at his Kirshiga Ward 004 polling unit in his home town, Madagali, a northern Adamawa town close to the Adamawa-Borno interstate boundary.

Fintiri told newsmen after voting that he was okay with the conduct of the election up to that time.

In the election, which started late in the morning across most polling units,  Kaletapwa, voted in her own birth zone, Numan, a major town 70 kilometres south of the capital city, Yola.

Farauta, after giving her vote at her Fada 001 Ward 3 polling unit in Numan, said she was satisfied by the peaceful conduct of everyone involved in the election process.

Speaking to journalists, she said: “The election is peaceful. People are exercising their franchise without hindrance. I’m glad that people are aware there is need for them to vote, because this election produces leaders close to them.”

She expressed optimism the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would be victorious in the election across the State because of the many development projects of the PDP-led state government.

The Nation reports that 12 political parties are presenting candidates for the election; but the 12 excludes leading opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) which had earlier expressed reservation about the likelihood of the election being free and fair

  • Fintiri’s first year of second term

Fintiri’s first year of second term

Sir: State governors who excelled in their first term always start their second term smoothly, easily formulating policies and executing projects. Those who built significant infrastructure and implemented developmental programs in their first term tend to continue these practices in their second term. Governors who managed resources wisely during their first term enter their second term with a clear vision for completion and the legacy they wish to leave. Furthermore, those who developed effective human capital programs in their first term demonstrate quality leadership in their second term, focusing on the future well-being of their people. And, have quality leadership that uses its ‘today’ for people’s tomorrow.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State is fortunate to belong to the category of state governors who excelled in their first term and continued with vigour in their second term.

In the first year of his second term, Governor Fintiri has not only maintained the momentum from his first term but has elevated his performance to a level that political-development pundits describe as exceptional and transformational leadership.

Pundits assert that no leader achieves exceptional and transformational leadership without visionary thinking, flexibility, decisiveness, results-orientedness, and a focus on the future.”

While it’s customary to assess a governor’s performance by listing their accomplishments in projects, programmes, and policies during their first or second term, simply enumerating Governor Fintiri’s endeavours over his five-year tenure would merely state the obvious. His projects, programmes, and policies already speak for themselves. The crucial task lies in understanding how the governor managed to pioneer new initiatives and impact all socio-economic sectors of Adamawa State’s economy while navigating the complex socio-political-economic landscape. Adamawa is a microcosm of Nigeria, where politics is ever-present, whether in governance or during political cycles.

Fintiri’s approach aligns with what operations research scientists refer to as systems thinking. He applies both a series and parallel systems approach, yielding excellent results. Fintiri’s development strategy is series-oriented, where all his projects and programmes are interconnected. The urban renewal projects are interconnected, all programmes are aligned with all projects, and together, they span across every sector. Additionally, Fintiri’s policies are carefully synchronized, complementing the projects and programmes.

The construction of hundreds of kilometres of roads across the states, the construction of five flyovers and underpasses in the capital city, and the building of 1000 housing units for 5,000 families are just a few components of a comprehensive strategy. Additionally, initiatives such as construction of well-equipped 60-bed five cottages hospitals, rehabilitation and equipping of specialist and general hospitals, the establishing of 21 model nursery and primary schools, and constructing six mega secondary schools are all interconnected efforts.

Moreover, the distribution of N50,000 through Fintiri wallets to 100,000 people, the clearance of all pension and gratuity backlogs, and the introduction of Fresh Air Metro buses and Blue Bird school buses contribute to the overarching goals. Furthermore, the agribusiness programme, the construction of the Jimeta Stadium, the state-wide rehabilitation of water supply facilities, the construction of new Jimeta Shopping Complex and Yola town markets and redevelopment of other old ones, the foreign and local scholarship programmes, the skills acquisitions centres are interconnected to play a crucial role in enhancing economic, healthcare, human capital development, and education, improving accessibility, facilitating the efficient delivery of services, contributions to broader goals.

Governor Fintiri’s systems thinking in development and the interconnectedness of projects, programmes, and policies have unprecedentedly scaled up the socio-economic growth and development of Adamawa and its people in just five years.

Fintiri hails Tinubu, says rebuilding Nigeria requires bold policies

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa state has commended President Bola Tinubu for hard policies intended to reposition Nigeria for growth.

Fintiri told newsmen in Yola that as unpopular as fuel subsidy removal initiated by the Tinubu government has been, the policy is necessary to make Nigerians sit up and be productive.

The governor, in a casual conversation with members of the state chapter of Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) who visited him at the Government House in Dougire, said fuel subsidy and other forms of subsidy would not help real progress.

“Let’s just pray that these bold policies of the federal government yield desired effects because we need them,” he said, adding that such policies are the sorts of change that Nigeria needs.

“We can’t continue to live on subsidy. We’ve got to face real-life situations and be productive. It’s productivity that will help us,” he stressed.

Fintiri, recalling the criticism he faces as the Adamawa State governor, particularly the recent case of pulling down the famous Jimeta Shopping Complex to give room for a remodelled bigger version, said attempts at change are always resisted and challenged.

He advised Nigerians to believe in leaders as meaning the best for them and giving the necessary support for the envisaged change to be actualized.
