  • Rekindling the fire of love in your Marriage! (5)

Rekindling the fire of love in your Marriage! (5)

    Dear Reader,

You are welcome to another exciting time in the presence of the Lord. Love, like I said last week, is the key factor that sustains a Christian marriage. But could it still be, considering the fact that the hot romance in your relationship is fading away, and it’s becoming a concern to you?

That is why, this week, it is necessary for me to share with you the basic idea that will help you to rekindle that “fire of love” in your marriage. That is what I call Good and Healthy Romance!

A healthy romance between a husband and wife makes for a healthy marriage relationship. Romance is a great facilitator of a successful marriage. When marriage stops being romantic, it starts to suffer devastation. The moment you stop desiring your spouse, you are already falling apart from each other. At that point, there is the need for a rekindling. Unfortunately, however, this is where many Christians run into problems.

Paul speaking in the Book of 1 Corinthians 7:3-5 says: Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

From the above verses of the Bible, “rendering due benevolence” means to give one another the benefit of marriage, which is your body. God placed in man a sexual desire, which should only be satisfied in marriage. That way, the desire will not be destructive.

But the big question is: why have so many couples denied themselves of this truth? This is where, I believe, some Christians have opened the door to trouble in their marriages.  The man is not available for his wife, so she looks somewhere else. The wife is not available for the man, so he goes somewhere else, because the burning must be satisfied.

The Bible says you mustn’t allow your abstinence go beyond a time. Nobody fasts for one year.  Even Jesus, the Messiah of the world, only fasted 40 days.  The significance of this is that you are not permitted, under whatever reason, to separate from each other for more than 40 days maximum, lest satan tempts you.

To tell your wife today, “I am waiting on the Lord”, tomorrow, “I am waiting on the Lord”, next week, “I am waiting on the Lord.” When you finish ‘waiting’, you may not find her there again. That is why most crises in marriages, today, develop out of sexual tension.

Romance in marriage is one of the areas you must intelligibly manage, because it reinforces the marriage covenant. Take time out with your spouse to go for a dinner date or a picnic in a secluded area away from home. Catch some fun with each other occasionally, like going to the beach or watching programmes of choice alone together. Create time for each other to reminisce happy moments; this will help to spice up a lukewarm marriage.

Having the fear of God resident will also help you spice up your marriage with good romance, instead of finding satisfaction outside the marriage. You can operate in the fear of God cheaply, if you have accepted Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour. Peradventure you haven’t, please say this prayer: “Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the living God. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.”

If you prayed this simple prayer, you are now a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship(John 14:21).

Congratulations! You are now born again! All-round rest and peace are guaranteed you, in Jesus’ Name. Call or write, and share your testimonies with me through contact@faithoyedepo.org; OR 07026385437 and 08141320204.

Fire destroys 12 houses in Easter disaster

At least 12 houses and properties worth millions were destroyed at the weekend in two separate  fire incidents in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital.
The first incident occurred  on Friday night at  Amarata, a Yenagoa suburb while the second happened early hours of yesterday at Ovom.
The Ovom disaster happened at Aritalin where wooden structures occupied mainly by commercial sex workers were razed.
A resident in the area, Joy Onuh, said the fire started from a locked room saying the cause of the incident was not known.
She said: ”We do not know how the fire started. And we never knew it would spread because we thought that it was just an ordinary smoke. Then, it became serious.
”We still appreciate efforts of the state fire fighters in putting out the fire, though they arrived late”.
One of the affected residents, Jully Bobby, who broke down in tears, said she lost all her belongings including money, clothing and mobile phone.
At the Amarata incident, which occurred at Imgbi Road, Amarata, the fire gutted a car and shops.
It was gathered that the fire was caused by explosion of adulterated fuel and kerosene loaded in the car.
”It would have been a disaster if not for the help of the fire service. The car was fully loaded with fuel; I commend the efforts of the state fire fighters”, a resident said.
A station driver, Bayelsa Fire Service Command, Mr. Prince Ogun, urged the people to immediately call fire service in case of an emergency.
He said ”The one at Imgbi Road was in the night, Friday, about 8pm. We went there with our fire fighting personnel and we were able to put out the fire.
”In fact, the two incidents were shocking, many houses were burnt but no life lost.
”I am advising members of the public against the use of candle and to desist from illegal bunkering to avoid fire incidents”.

  • Fire kills 20 in Senegalese religious gathering

No fewer than 20 people were killed when a fire broke out in a Muslim spiritual retreat in eastern Senegal, local media reported on Thursday.

About 50 others were injured when the fire broke out in the village of Medina Gounass, according to newspaper L’Observateur.

The village holds an annual retreat attended by thousands of Muslims from across West Africa each year.

The gathering, called “Daaka”, is a spiritual retreat that attracts thousands of pilgrims every year from Senegal and several countries of the sub region.

It took place in the middle of the bush, under the temporary shelters of straw.

The cause of the fire which also ravaged sheds where goods and vehicles were parked has not been determined.

The 2017 edition of Daaka kicked off on Saturday and will continue until April 17.

It is scheduled to receive Friday the visit of the Senegalese head of state.

The cause of the fire remained unknown on Thursday.

  • Fire guts FAAN’s headquarters in Lagos

Fire guts FAAN’s headquarters in Lagos

Fire yesterday gutted the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) headquarters at the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.
The fire affected the Audit, Communications and Engineering Departments, among others.
FAAN fire service officials said the incident, which occurred around 7 a.m., was caused by an electrical fault.
Files and other equipment belonging to the authority were destroyed in the inferno.
Lagos Commissioner of Police Fatai Owoseni and some of his top officers rushed to the scene to maintain law and order.
The incident led to gridlock on the airport road.
Fire fighters from FAAN and the Lagos State Fire Service battled to put out the fire.
The government is auditing FAAN workers.
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives were said to have visited the agency on Monday.
The audit department was at the centre of a scandal last year in which an official was arrested for manipulating furniture allowances between 2013 and 2015.
Owoseni, who got to the scene at 10:55 a.m., said the immediate cause of the fire could not yet be ascertained, adding that investigations into the incident have been begun.
“The fire service responded to the distress call and ensured that the fire was prevented from spreading,” Owoseni said. “Some of the offices were affected and the FAAN management is already making arrangements to relocate some of the departments to other areas not affected by the fire.
“The police are there to prevent casualty and mutiny. The police in conjunction with FAAN’s security have taken control of security. We are still on the cause of the fire, it is still fresh, but the reasons behind the fire will soon be out with reports from several agencies.”
The Commissioner of Police, Airports Command, Besan Gwana, said his men on patrol spotted smoke coming out from the rooftop of the building and immediately called the Lagos State Fire Service.
Also at the scene were Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Director-General Captain Muhtar Usman and the Director of Consumer Protection Directorate, Adamu Abdullahi.
FAAN has set up a panel to ascertain the cause of the fire at its corporate headquarters.
The panel consisting NCAA, Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), Department of State Services (DSS), Police, and personnel of FAAN’s legal, safety and aviation security departments is to unravel the immediate and remote cause of the fire and the extent of damage.
FAAN’s Managing Director Saleh Dunoma said the police also carry out an undercover probe into the cause of the inferno to establish theories of conspiracy and possible sabotage.
He said it was premature to give the cause of the fire as it could jeopardise investigations.
Dunoma said the affected sections in the Director of Commercial Services office, audit and corporate communications departments had been cordoned off to avoid tampering with evidence.
He said workers using offices in the affected sections would be relocated to other sections in the building.
The fire Dunoma said, would not lead to shutting down the headquarters.
Dunoma said: “We are all dejected about this fire as you can see the workers are not happy. But, FAAN is not shutting down, we have set up a panel and we will allow them to do their work. This is the reason we cordoned off the affected sections of the building.
“The reason for setting up the panel is to establish the immediate and remote cause and extent of damage,” he said.
