    CASVI Foundation distributes food to Sango community

    In a gesture of showing solidarity with the societal food shortage crises and its attending challenges on masses, Children Academic and Vocational Support Initiatives (CAVSI) has embarked on a hunger alleviation initiative in its community base.

    CASVI, a Nigeria-based non-governmental organization dedicated to meeting the educational needs of young children, commemorates its 20th anniversary in April 2024.

    In honour of this milestone, the organization launched a charitable event in Orile-Iloye, Sango Otta, Ogun State, where discounted food items were distributed to the community.

    The coordinator of the CASVI foundation, Hakeem Ariori, said: “The primary objective of this initiative was to assist the people during a challenging period fostering a sense of solidarity and support within the community.

    “Items distributed include noodles, spaghetti, hot pepper sauce, Garri, tomato pastes, Maggi seasonings, and Macaroni, among other items. The initiative has significantly impacted the lives of the community people as the items have helped to alleviate some of the challenges faced by the community.”

    Beneficiaries of the intervention programme expressed overwhelming joy and gratitude to the CAVSI foundation for their generous gesture.

    There was much enthusiasm by the community members who participated in the event, turning out in large numbers to purchase the offered items. 

    Some of the beneficiaries spoke to expressed happiness for such a gesture to come to them and anticipate future similar opportunities.

    They also spoke about how CAVSI’s humanitarian efforts within their community have impacted them.

    Ariori further added: “This particular event coincided with CAVSI’s good deed day, further emphasizing the organization’s effort to give back to society. We are marking our 20th anniversary of active service to humanity since 2004. Since its inception, CASVI has impacted the young ones with career and health counselling, academic opportunities, and other rural interventions. 

    “During the event, a total of six volunteers including the coordinator, actively participated in the program. Their dedication and commitment played a crucial role in ensuring the smooth execution of the programme.”

    FOUNDER of Sola Osolana Foundation, Sola Osolana, spoke at the fifth edition of the foundation’s public support programme at Agege.

    He said leaders imust prioritise people’s welfare, given the challenges in the country.

    Osolana, philanthropist, is House of Representatives candidate for Peoples Democratic Party in Agege in February 25, 2023, elections.

    In a statement by Director-General of his campaign, Adeola Balogun, he said the foundation was a non-profit and non-political welfare organisation.

    Balogun noted the foundation supports the less privileged, saying he had been helping people with accomodation, education, scholarships , health and sports development for over 10 years.

    He said to be qualified for Osolana’s welfare support, beneficiaries must be in need and resident in Agege.

    Prudence Foundation, JA Nigeria rewards winners of ‘Money Bee Competition’

    Prudence Foundation, in collaboration with Junior Achievement Nigeria, have rewarded winners of the Money Bee Competition for elementary schools.

    This competition was the culmination of the Cha-Ching Programme, an annual financial literacy initiative sponsored by Prudence Foundation, the Community Investment Arm of Prudential.

    The programme concluded with a closing ceremony at JA Nigeria HQ in Lagos, marking the end of a journey that spanned 13 states: Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Kano, Kaduna, Plateau, Nasarawa, Rivers, Enugu, Anambra, Akwa-Ibom, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

    To qualify, teachers evaluated and tested their pupils through a challenge. Outstanding contestants then participated in a quiz designed to test their financial knowledge. From over 10,000 pupils, 20 emerged to compete in the final stage of the Money Bee competition.

    Judges Eniola Thomas, Corporate Social Responsibility at Prudential Zenith Life Insurance, and Bob Ononuju, Head of Public Relations at Prudential Zenith Life Insurance, ensured fairness throughout the competition.

    The following students emerged winners; First Position: God’swill Boma Allaputa from Ineben International School in Rivers State; Second Position: Onubi Prasie Eleojo from Heirsville International School, Lagos and Third Position: Oniya Ayanfeoluwa from God Mercy Nursery and Primary School, Ondo State.

    They were rewarded with cash prizes of 100,000, 50,000, and 20,000 naira.

    Olaolu Akogun, the Acting Executive Director of Junior Achievement Nigeria, expressed delight in contributing to a program that empowers Nigeria’s youth financially. 

    He emphasized the importance of early exposure to financial literacy in improving the country’s education system and preparing young people for financial stability.

    The Prudence Foundation also shared their perspective, stating that changing the world starts with providing young people with a solid foundation in financial matters.

    Through programmes like Cha-Ching, they aim to teach young people how to earn, save, spend, and donate money, believing in the importance of financial inclusion in every individual’s life cycle and helping build more resilient communities.

    In an effort to empower women in the Ibeju-Lekki local government area in Lagos, the Oladele Fajemirokun Foundation has launched a groundbreaking initiative focused on providing vocational skills to young mothers.

     This programme intended to benefit over 1000 women, aims to equip them with crucial skills, resources, and support to enhance their economic independence and self-sufficiency, especially as many of them are single mothers without male support in their households.

    Emife Charity Foundation has congratulated former National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest Coordinator, Kappo Samuel, on his appointment as Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tertiary Education.

    The foundation’s Project Manager, Timilehin Akintona, in a statement yesterday, said the appointment was “well deserving.”

    Samuel was the former president of Lagos State University’s (LASU) Student Union Government (SUG) and a NANS coordinator.

    Timilehin noted Samuel will leverage his experience to help make Sanwo-Olu’s administration a success in education.

    He said Samuel would be a good ambassador to youths and use his position to foster issue-based dialogue to advance development.

    Foundation to establish STI clinics in Benue, Abuja

    AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), a Los Angeles-based global non-profit organisation, is set to establish Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) clinics in Benue and Abuja by June.

    The Advocacy and Marketing Manager Mr Steve Aborishade, made this known on Tuesday in Makurdi during an event to

    mark the 2024 International Condom Day (ICD).

    The objective of the day is to empower individuals to make informed choices about their sexual health, foster open communication about safer sex practices and contribute to global efforts toward combating the spread of STIs.

    Aborishade, who said that “some people don’t even know they have STI; therefore, it is necessary to be tested and have

    access to counselling, treatment and testing against the disease.”

    The programme manager, who said that the WCD is strategic, as Feb. 14 which is Valentine Day, is a celebration of love, added that “we know what happens among young people on Valentines Day.

    “A lot of extra marital activities and sexual relationships take place; we advise abstinence from sex, but necessary to also preach condom use.

    The AHF Prevention Coordinator in Benue, Amina Iyaji-Abiche, who also spoke at the programme, said “condoms are to be used consistently and  properly for the right persons.”

    She said AHF is in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and other bodies to enable access to treatment of STIs in the state.

    The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Ann Itodo, appreciated the foundation for organising the programme, saying “we would also collaborate with AHF to mark the forthcoming International Women’s Day.

    Last year December 30 was a day to remember for Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha Anambra state, (DMGS) Old Boys Association (DOBA) Class of 1978 . 

    It was the day they commemorated their long-awaited reunion dinner and gala night at the esteemed All Saints Cathedral in Onitsha, Anambra state. 

    The gathering was an extraordinary testament to lasting friendships and shared experiences. 

    Distinguished among the attendees was Dr. Ernest Azudialu-Obiejesi, Chairman of the occasion and esteemed CEO of Nestoil Ltd and the Obijackson Group.

    Foundation unveils N1b research centre

    To promote qualitative research and management studies across Africa, the Lagos Business School, in partnership with the GAMSU Foundation,   has unveiled the Gamaliel and Susan International Management Research Centre.

    The state-of-the art facility, valued at over N1billion was funded by the GAMSU Foundation, alongside other donors in a collaborative effort geared towards improving the standard of education in the country.

    Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, said the centre represents the impact the late Gamaliel Onosode had on management.

    Sanwo-Olu said: “Today’s theme, the role of research in shaping Africa’s landscape speaks to the transformative power that thoughtful and rigorous research can have on a people, particularly, on our continent.

    Noting that research is the bedrock upon which development is built, Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism that the centre represents another giant leap to advancing knowledge that is uniquely relevant.

    Businesswoman launches foundation for the needy

    Businesswoman  Lara Adebiyi has  launched her not-for-profit foundation for the needy.

    Lara, who is married to  LaraLek Ultimate Constructions boss, Olalekan Adebiyi, said the foundation was borne out of the desire to help the less-privileged, especially students faced with the challenge of paying their fees.

    Mrs. Adebiyi said God has been using her to help people around her, so she decided to make it an official setting.

    She said: “The intention is to kick off as soon as the year begins. Transparency will be key and further details will be communicated to the stakeholders involved.

    “Asides education, the foundation will cater for the health needs of the less-privileged. People are challenged. They can’t pay their school fees, but at the same time, if somebody is not feeling fine, there’s no way the person can go to school or anything. That is why we added health to it. We are out to support people in health and education.

    “By God’s grace, we’ve been doing it over the years, but now, we are taking it higher for more reach and also for more people to benefit. For now, we are just launching. It’s been done privately before, but we want to take it to a larger scale now. We want to partner locally or internationally, and it will be possible at least when everything has been formalised.”

     Proprietress of Dansol  High School, Mrs. Adunola Akinyemiju, described Mrs. Adebiyi as humble. She also expressed her belief that the foundation will positively influence a large number of students and achieve all its goals and objectives with the help of God.

    A member of the advisory board, Mrs. Maureen Emeka, said: “History is being made. The foundation is a response to a call. This has been ongoing before now, and she’s just trying to give it a structure.

    “She’s a transparent person, very open, and I’m sure this will be replicated in what she’s doing. She’s someone who is very passionate about education and I’m sure she’ll leave no stones unturned to achieve her aim.”

    Chairman of the board and husband of the founder, Mr. Olalekan Adebiyi, reassured  her of his support to the  foundation’s vision.

    Foundation empowers people with disabilities in Oyo

    A Non-governmental Organisation (NGO), Omituntun For Life Foundation, has empowered members of Strong and Able Person with Disability Association of Nigeria (SAPDAN), Saki Chapter.

    Apart from the empowerment, SAPDAN members were also given cash gifts and food items to take care of their families.

    Speaking at the 7th anniversary of SAPDAN, held at the Prince Place Event Center Memorial Hall, Oke-Sunnah Saki, Oyo state, the chairperson of the foundation, who is also the wife of Oyo state governor, Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde urged beneficiaries not to be discouraged or feel less bout themselves.

    He said: “Physical disability comes in different forms. No matter the form of disability you have, you are an important part of the society, so do not allow anyone to trample upon your rights because of your physical condition.”

    “According to a popular saying, there is ability in disability, so, let your voices be heard wherever you find yourselves in the society, i am happy to know that most of you have learnt one skill or the other such as barbing, phone repair etc, which is a source of livelihood for you.” 

    “I want to admonish you to improve on the skills you have learnt and let the challenges you are facing at the moment inspire you to do better for yourselves.”

    “The Omituntun for Life Foundation under my leadership will be supporting fifty (50) members of the Strong and Able Persons with Disability Association of Nigeria (SAPDAN), Saki Chapter with a bag of rice and a sum of Fifty thousand Naira (N50,000) each.
