    Foundation embarks on three-week free medical outreach

    The Giwarex Foundation, an apolitical, non-profit Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), has initiated a three-week free medical outreach in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara state.

    The outreach, focusing on indigent residents of the Ilorin Emirate, encompasses HIV tests, A1C tests for blood sugar levels, blood pressure checks, malaria rapid diagnostic tests, as well as medical consultation, treatment education, and counseling, among other services.

    Prof. Pharm. Abdulganiyu Giwa, the founder of the Foundation, stated that the purpose of the medical outreach is to provide assistance to indigent vulnerable groups, including children, women, and the elderly in the community, adding that the initiative is in response to the challenging economic conditions prevailing in the country.

    Giwa, who is the first Professor of Pharmacy in Ilorin Emirate, revealed that his recent appointment to the professorial position by the University of Ilorin prompted a realization of the imperative to intensify his endeavors in contributing to the society that had been instrumental in his achievements.

    According to him, the Foundation is exclusively dedicated to alleviating the plight of the less fortunate by offering healthcare services, arranging complimentary summer lessons for secondary school students, and granting scholarships, among other initiatives.

    He said: “The medical outreach that we’re organizing now came up as a result of the recent pronouncements of my professor chair as the first pharmacy professor in Ilorin Emirate, I just concluded within me that I’m not going to take it for granted.

    “I have to use the opportunity to quickly try to give more than ever before to society. That’s why we organized these medical outreaches in Ilorin metropolis.

    The exercise which began on Saturday, 9 December will traverse the city through the end of the month.

    Foundation empowers 700 Lagos youths with skills, job tools

    No fewer than 700 youths in Lagos State penultimate Thursday graduated from the skills acquisition programme sponsored by the Imole Eko Foundation.

    The graduation, the sixth in a series, was held at the Police College Ground in Ikeja.

    Beneficiaries of the programme who were trained in fashion designing, facial makeover, hairdressing, wig making, barbing, cosmetology, shoe/bag making, and catering received certificates, job tools, and cash as startup capital.

    At the event, the sponsor of the programme, who is also the Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Prince Yommy Eshinlokun Ogungbe explained that his previous philanthropic initiatives in the area of education inspired him to sponsor the skills acquisition programme.

    He said: ” Being a philanthropist, I have been giving out free GCE, JAMB, and WAEC forms and scholarships to indigent students since 1998. I have also sponsored games and sporting events in various primary and secondary schools in Lagos State. Hence, I decided to start a foundation to help young and old people, particularly youth to learn vocational skills or crafts to earn a living.

    ‘’The Imole Eko Foundation(IEF) aims to break the vicious cycle of poverty and to restore hope for a better future. I believe that everyone has the right to access resources and opportunities, hence, our aim is to help generate vocational training for el employment.”

    Foundation renovates, equips Gbagada, Alimosho General Hospitals

    The Heal the World Mission Incorporated and the Tola Olukilede Foundation, two affiliated non-Governmental Organisations, recently renovated the Medical Social Services office of the Gbagada General Hospital and donated some medical equipment to the Alimosho General Hospital, Igando, both in Lagos.

    Speaking at the dedication of the renovated office in Gbagada, founder of the organisations, Apostle Dr. Tola Olukilede said the gesture was influenced by the deplorable state he met it during a visit and the need to “make it a conducive and comfortable place of work, so that when the staff are coming to work, they feel happy to come in and discharge their duties very well.”

    In the past, before Covid-19, Olukilede said the organisation had donated air conditioners to the hospital.

    He also indicated the organisations’ readiness to intervene in the case of life-threatening emergency cases of indigent patients.

    Reacting, both the Medical Director of the Gbagada General Hospital, represented by the Deputy Director/HOD Environment, Alhajii Gafar Olanrewaju, and the Assistant Director, Medical Social Service, Mrs. Modupe Badmos, whose office was the direct beneficiary of the gesture, expressed their gratitude to Dr Olukilede, even as they clamoured for more support.

    The team thereafter went round to pray for patients and also paid for urgent drug needs of some patients.

    At the Alimosho General Hospital, Igando, the team donated two Electric Sunction Apparatus, two Blood Glucose Monitoring Systems, two Medical Regulators and two Automatic Upper Arm Blood pressure Monitor.

    Dr Olukilede said the equipment were to enhance swift and proper healthcare delivery to patients, and urged judicious use, to inspire more of such gestures.

    A senior official off the hospital, who represented the medical director, Mrs. Bello Oluwaseun, thanked the organisations “for going the extra miles to get them the equipment”, adding that “they would be deployed to the wards, where they will be used to serve the patients.”

    Dr Olukilede said the Heal the World Movement and the Tola Olukilede Ministries were founded on the giving covenant, and have assisted more than 5000 indigent students with school-life scholarships, in addition to reaching out to widows and other less-privileged.

    All funds, Olukilede said, are generated by covenant practitioners alone and not from any government or external donor bodies.

    The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with the Learntor Foundation, is set to empower boys and men with technical skills under the Tech Up Boys Initiative.

    The Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo,  announced this at a briefing at the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC).

    He said “in a world where technology is rapidly changing everything, we must provide our youths with the skills and information they need to succeed”.

      “It addresses unemployment, cultural pressures, and mental health difficulties in young men. By fostering financial independence and mental health, we are raising a resilient, innovative, and socially responsible generation. This is a deliberate investment into our future,” he added.

    He said the initiative supports the government’s growth, technological innovation, and social stability goals.

      Director-General, PSSDC,  Mr. Adekunmilola Toluwase Adio-Moses, the project aligns with the key THEMES+ Agenda of the Administration of  Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and its commitment to innovation, youth empowerment, and development.

     “By equipping our young boys with cutting-edge tech skills,” he said, “we not only empower the future workforce but also contribute to the State’s agenda of fostering a culture of innovative entrepreneurship.”

     CEO, Learntor Foundation, Mrs. Mercy George-Igbafe, said the programme is aimed at reducing crimes among the youth.  It would kick off soon, and would cover the local governments. It would also include a boot camp, where the beneficiaries would be trained in data analytics, focusing on Power BI, Python, and SQL. This would be followed by internship and mentorship, among others.

    The Media & Information Literacy Intercultural Dialogue Foundation (MILID Foundation) is set to hold a one-day training on Media and Information Literacy (MIL) to commemorate the 2023 MIL week.

    The training themed Youth, MIL, and Digital Spaces will introduce young Nigerian students between the ages of 15 and 25 to the basics of media and information literacy as an antidote to the information disorder popularly called fake news.

    A statement by the organisers disclosed that Secondary school students of Cradle2Harvard International School and university students of Nile University in the FCT are beneficiaries of this training.

    The foundation said: “Digitisation and the growth of technology have empowered every user of the digital space and made a producer/publisher of them.

    “With young people as the largest users of digital spaces, including social media across the globe, it becomes pertinent to empower and equip this group with the tools they need to navigate the murky waters of the digital space.

    “The Global MIL Week is an annual event headlined by UNESCO for mobilising worldwide stakeholders to raise awareness to increase national take-up and celebrate the progress achieved towards Media and Information Literacy for All – underlining the importance of this Global Week, celebrated since 2011.

    “Under the theme “Media and Information Literacy in Digital Spaces: A Collective Global Agenda”, this year’s events aim to explore paths for strengthening multilateral cooperation with digital platforms and other stakeholders in integrating media and information literacy into policies, operations, and products.”

    The 2022 Global MIL Week main event took place in Nigeria. This year’s event was scheduled to take place in Jordan but has been postponed because of the crisis in the Middle East.

    Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL) has partnered with The Destiny Trust Foundation (TDT) to enroll 100 underprivileged children in school and provide them with uniforms, backpacks and essential school materials in a CSR initiative.

    The exercise, which was a resounding success, took place at Lagos State Model Nursery/Primary School, Lekki, where children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds received brand new backpacks loaded with essential school supplies.

    Low-income earners and indigents at Okwu, Awarasi Uga, Aguats LGA, Anambra State have heaved a sigh of relief as a non-profit organization committed to empowering low-income communities has expressed readiness to assist the community.

    A non-profit organization, Chude and Ego Foundation while opening Osnon Academy, the flagship co-boarding secondary school of the Chude and Ego Foundation,  said the academy would provide accessible and quality education and healthcare services.

    The academy which started on Monday, is located at Okwu, Awarasi Uga village, Aguats Local Government Area,  Anambra State.

    According to a statement by the foundation, “The school is designed to empower the brightest young minds in Nigeria and enable them to rise above economic and social barriers to thrive and build sustainable communities around them.”

    In his welcome address to students and parents, Head of School, Arinze Izuegbunam stated that the vision of Osnon Academy “is to nurture the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and change-makers.     Foundation empowers  Ifako- Ijaiye residents

    No fewer than 200 individuals have been empowered by a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), the Eleos Touch Foundation, in Ifako Ijaiye Council of Lagos State with interest-free loans and educational materials.

    The foundation distributed over 600 free GCE and JAMB forms and sponsored 10 skill acquisition and empowerment programmes for over 200 recipients.

    The leader of the House, Olalekan Oyekunle, who is also the representative of the foundation’s founder, expressed enthusiasm over the initiative, saying; “This distribution of interest-free loans is part of Eleos Touch Foundation’s ongoing commitment to positively impact the lives of residents within Ojokoro, Ifako Ijaiye, and other nearby areas.”

    He said the foundation’s assistance extended to other local governments, adding that the goal of the foundation was to make a positive difference in the lives of as many individuals as possible in Ojokoro, Ifako Ijaiye, and beyond.

     The APC Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA, Jelili Oseni, commended the foundation’s efforts, emphasising the impact it has had on the residents of Ojokoro. He expressed gratitude for the foundation’s continued support and urged them to keep up the commendable work.

    “The Foundation has developed the lives of many individuals through its assistance programs, and we hope they continue to make such a difference. We pray for the founder’s longevity so she can help even more people,” he said.

    The Supervisory Councillor, Modinat Tijani, described the foundation as a “vital organisation” that lends support to the less-privileged who struggle to meet their basic needs and improve their businesses.

    She urged other public-spirited outfits to emulate the foundation in eradicating poverty within their local governments.

    The residents expressed their appreciation for the foundation’s contributions, recognising the positive impact it would have on their lives. They expressed gratitude for the opportunity to receive interest-free loans and the support provided by the Eleos Touch Foundation.

    Many residents expressed their belief that the initiative would greatly improve their lives in various ways.

    One of the beneficiaries, a small-scale business owner, Mrs. Kikelomo Bello, who received an interest-free loan, expressed her gratitude, saying: “I am so grateful to Eleos Touch Foundation for this loan. It will enable me to expand my business and provide a better future for my children. This assistance has given me hope and renewed my determination to succeed.”

    Another beneficiary, Mr. lawal Wasiu Adeleke, a young student preparing for his university entrance exams, received a scholarship to cover the cost of his JAMB form.

    He shared his excitement, stating: “This scholarship has relieved a significant financial burden for my family. I can now focus on my studies and strive to achieve my dreams. The Eleos Touch Foundation has truly made a positive impact in my life.”

    Foundation canvasses stiffer penalties against child traffickers

    Youth Alive Foundation has canvassed enforcement of stiffer laws and penalties against child traffickers in Nigeria and Akwa Ibom State in particular.

    It also wants an integrated approach, including the adoption of community policing, towards curbing the crime in borderline communities across the state.

    These were part of the resolutions reached at the end of a stakeholders and media dialogue on Child Trafficking and Abuse in Nigeria, held in Uyo at the weekend.

    In a communique signed by the Executive Director of the Foundation Africa, Dr. Uduak Okon, Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Task Force on Human Trafficking, Mrs. Emem Ette and others, the group expressed worry about the prevalence of the crime in the state.

    The dialogue was attended by stakeholders from government agencies, security agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGO), civil society organisations, social media influencers, journalists, lawyers, students, concerned citizens and advocates.

    They advocated a synchronised and centralised system of data management and information sharing in the state.

    The resolutions included: “The need for a sophisticated communication network between stakeholders, to match the highly organised network system of perpetrators.

    “There should be medical evidence to secure prosecution of perpetrators, as such victims should be given quick and immediate medical attention in any hospital they approach.

    “Traditional and religious leaders should be engaged and involved in the sensitisation and protection of children and citizens within their congregation, to create trust between communities, NGOs, civil societies, and reporting agencies, to enable whistle-blowers and more victims to come forward.

    “There should be the recognition of vulnerable children like those begging on the streets, by traffic lights, and the importance of addressing their situation, plus the need to operate with a sense of urgency and readiness both in preventing child trafficking and abuse and in prosecuting offenders.

    “Education and enlightenment of the public and most especially parents on ways to prevent child trafficking and abuse by media houses.

    “Consequently, incorporation of social media influencers and platforms to increase sensitisation and awareness on trafficking and abuse, and security agencies should give prompt responses to reports of child trafficking and abuse.”

    The Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Emmanuel Bamigboye, has laid the foundation of the proposed multipurpose office complex.

     According to the chairman, the main purpose of the structure is to accommodate federal agencies such as the Department of State Services (DSS), customs officers, Immigration, National Population Census, Civil Defense, and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

    Bamigboye said: “The foundation we are laying for this ultra-modern office complex is going to entail so much more for an office and it is strictly for all federal representatives to be in one place so that they can serve the local government very well and to support the general hospital.

     The chairman acknowledged the department of ward housing which are in charge of the laying of foundation. He said he believes in the next few months they will be done with the project and they will have a very good and conducive office.

     The Council Engineer, Babaleji said the structure will be completed in October by God’s grace.
