…governor dismisses 7-day ultimatum as noisemaking from delusional folks

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has told Speaker Martins Amaewhule and 24 other lawmakers that their seats at the state House of Assembly were declared vacant on December 13 and had remained so.

The governor rubbished a seven-day ultimatum the Amaewhule-led lawmakers issued to him to re-present the 2024 Appropriation Bill saying his administration was already preparing the 2025 Budget.

The governor said the lawmakers were gone for good and would eventually return home for voluntarily choosing to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the platform on which they won their elections, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fubara spoke when he received on a solidarity visit the leadership structure, critical stakeholders, opinion leaders, women and youths of Etche and Omuma local government areas led by Ogbakor Etche, the apex socio-cultural organisation of Etche Ethnic Nationality Worldwide, at Government House in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

The governor, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS) dismissed their recent ranting as noise-making from delusional folks.

Describing the 25 lawmakers as former, he asked them to wake up from their slumber to see the ship of governance in the state sailing on smoothly.

Fubara also said that his administration had started preparing details of the 2025 Appropriation Bill, with priority placed on education, healthcare and agriculture.

He said:  “Let me assure you that agriculture is an area that we have promised the very special and peace-loving people of Rivers State that our 2025 budget, which we have already started preparing, will address. Don’t bother about those people that are delusional. They think we are still sleeping. Let me tell you people so that they can hear anywhere they are.

“I wanted to help them, sincerely because I know them. And I have said it before, these are people that I have helped. I paid their children’s school fees. I paid their house rents. So, I wanted to help them.

“We all knew what happened when they crossed (defected), and how did they cross? Because of our God, for them to make that mistake, they crossed! They are gone, and they are gone. Now, let me tell you: when I wanted to help them, I accepted to help them because we are all one. We disagree to agree as it is said.

“But, they thought they are smart. What is holding them is the declaration of their seats vacant that was done on December 13, 2023. That is what is holding them. We are not doing any budget to nullify that decision. It is what will send them to their villages.

“For me, as I am talking to you, I have started preparing my budget for 2025, which I am going to present very soon. And, in that budget, my key areas will be education, healthcare and agriculture.”

Fubara explained that the three priority areas of the 2025 budget saying it would focus on providing quality healthcare services to keep people healthy.

He said: “Our children need to go to quality schools. Even if they can’t go to private schools, let them go to the public ones that have standards. We need to go to good health facilities owned by the government and get standard healthcare services.

“Even if we cannot afford those private hospitals, when you go to the public ones, you can get the same services with qualified professionals. That is our thinking.

“And when we get to the issue of agriculture, it will address the issue of unemployment. When we start engaging our youths, they won’t have time to be involved in crime. So, our thinking is to secure and protect our State”.

Fubara reiterated that his administration was not fighting anybody, and would continue to show appreciation to those who had contributed to the good fortunes that he has received in life.

The governor, however, clarified that being loyal did not mean losing one’s liberty, sense of discretion, and what was right, which he said was why he would not be a governor forced on his knees to stair the affairs of the state.

He said: “I want to assure you one thing: we are not fighting anybody. We appreciate what God has used people to also do in our lives. But, we are not going to rule (govern) this State on our bent knees. We will rule standing this way I am standing.

“If it is only being on our knees to rule that is the way that they will see us as being loyal, then, I will pack my few things that I have here, and go and relax in my house comfortably because it will be a disaster, not just to me but to everyone in the State and even my own generation.

“So, I will continue to stand tall and stand on the side of truth. So, let me thank the President General (of Ogbakor Etche) for bringing your people, the great people of Etche and Omuma together to come and pay us a solidarity visit.

“We want to assure you that we recognize all ethnic groups, and we are not here because of any particular group. We are here and standing for Rivers State. Our greatest support has come, not from my own people (Opobo), but from all of you.”

Fubara urged the people of Etche Nation to sustain their support for his administration because its vision was clear and encompassing to advance the well-being of all Rivers people.

He said: “We are asking for only one thing from you: Support us because our interest is very clear and straight. We mean well for our people. We want everyone to be free. We want to lead with the fear of God. We want you to express yourselves without fear.

“So, I want to assure you that we are on the right track. With your support, we are going to get there. Don’t allow anybody to deceive you. They can go to the media and dance; when they go behind, they cry. It is the truth. We don’t know how to dance but we say it the way it is, and stand tall anywhere we go.”

Fubara, in responding to the requests of the people, said his administration was working with the Nigeria Police in finding lasting solutions to the hydra-headed issue of herdsmen attacks on farmlands and farmers in the area while urging them to continue to provide vital information of strange people and their operations to the relevant authorities.

The governor also promised to address the issue of illegal dredging activities in the area, and undertake reconstruction work on priority areas, including roads, schools and health facilities, just as he announced the donation of N50million to Ogbakor Etche Worldwide for the smooth running of the organisation.

In his speech, Oyeisi Etche, His Eminence, Eze Emmanuel Opurum, said Etche and Omuma people would continue to give full support to Governor Fubara and ensure that his administration succeeds.

Eze Opurum, who also said that the political crisis in Rivers State was an ill wind that would do no good to anybody, called on governors of the 36 states of the Federation to quickly summon a meeting to collectively find a lasting solution to the crisis, which should be communicated to President Bola Tinubu and eventually enforced.

On his part, the President-General of Ogbakor Etche Worldwide, Sir Charles Nwonuala, said the Etche people, who shared in the travails, joy and many victories of Fubara, came to pledge their unalloyed support, confidence, and faith in him and his administration.

Sir Nwonuala also presented a list of roads, schools, and other development needs plaguing them as a people while insisting that they endorse and support the good governance provided by the Governor in the State.

In his speech, the Head of Rivers State Civil Service, Dr George Nwaeke, said the Oyeisi Etche, the entire leadership structure plus 70 academic professors from Etche Nation, have come together with women and youths to express solidarity to Governor Fubara to enable his administration succeed.

Dr Nwaeke emphasized that they are particularly happy to identify with the administration because they rank among first who felt liberated when the administration of Governor Fubara started giving his all-inclusive leadership approach and love for peace.

…inaugurates Frank-Fubara as commissioner for finance

Rivers state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has challenged the police to take action on the suspect behind the attempted detonation of explosive device in Port Harcourt during the protester for elongation of former chairmen of local government councils.

The governor maintained that if such act was done by supporters linked to him, the police would have successfully slammed terrorism charges on them.

Fubara spoke shortly after inaugurating  Emmanuel Onengiye-ofori Frank-Fubara as the new Commissioner for Finance at the Executive Chambers of Government House in Port Harcourt on Monday.

The governor in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Nelson Chukwudi, insisted that Rivers has only one enemy vehemently opposed to his administration, with others classified as his offsprings, together making frenetic efforts to sink the state.

But Fubara declared that the good God has continued to frustrate their machinations and bring shame on them all.

The governor said, “like it was upheld in many prayers by his predecessors, that Rivers state is dedicated to God, those fighting him would continue to experience inexplicable trouble and defeat.

He said: “You know, if it were a situation that (Governor) Fubara is involved in anything, or links Fubara’s associates, by now, Nigeria would have been hot. There would have been arrest, there would have been statements, there would have been counter this or that. There would have been press conferences.

“But, because it is from the other side, nothing is heard yet. But glory to God, they couldn’t hide it forever, even if I have not been hearing anything.

“And, I am wondering after how many weeks now, the Nigerian Police is still not able to come out and make a statement about the attempt by the man that tried to detonate a dynamite in front of Presidential Hotel, Port Harcourt.

“I am still wondering why it has not happened. But, maybe, if it was any other thing that has to do with us, they would have charged the person for terrorism.

“But, you see, this God that I serve, we are serving genuinely. This God that Rivers State has been dedicated to by our predecessors, because when they make statements, they say: Rivers State belongs to God; and that is the God that is saving and lifting us.”

Fubara said that the enemies of the State would surely gather, as stated in the Holy Bible, but because their gathering was not of God, they would surely scatter.

The governor pointed out that his administration was satisfied with its dealings with the Rivers State House of Assembly that is duly recognised by law to carry on with its legislative duties and providing the requisite support for effective functioning of the executive without interruption of governance.

Fubara charged the newly sworn-in Commissioner, who has a track record of being thorough and pays attention to details, to ensure he did not disappoint the confidence reposed in him.

He also urged him to use the opportunity to touch lives, while making the dtate proud with the quality of service he would render by defending it always.

He said: “It doesn’t matter how long or short I have known him. But within the short period of knowing him, he has proven himself to be a gentleman.

“So, Mr Frank, this honour that God has given to you today, it is not for you to wear one big cap and put one rottweiler in front of your gate, no. Use the opportunity to touch lives.

“But, above all, make the State proud. Work in a manner that you’ve not worked before. Defend the interest of the State. That is what is important, and not to praise me. No. Don’t praise me.

“I believe strongly that you are going to do well and make us proud, and we will continue to make the state great.”

Fubara assured that his administration would continue to offer services and deliver quality developmental projects that would truly advance the state on a progressive pedestal that will also translate to quality living for the people.

He added: “By the special grace of God, when we leave, there should be genuine positive things that people will see and say, yes, this government meant well for the good people of Rivers State.”

Rivers crisis: I am not ungrateful, says Fubara

Rivers state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that he is not an ungrateful person, saying he appreciates those instrumental to good gestures that have come his way.

The governor said gratitude had compelled him not to throw caution to the wind in handling the current political crisis bedevilling the state.

Fubara spoke when he hosted the stakeholders of Ikwerre ethnic nationality, including the leadership of Ogbakor Ikwerre Cultural Organisation Worldwide, the Supreme Council of Ikwerre Traditional Rulers, Ikwerre women, and opinion and youth leaders, at Government House in Port Harcourt on Monday.

Fubara in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Nelson Chukwudi said if he were ungrateful as canvassed in some quarters, it would have been difficult to hide it for too long from everybody.

He said: “I want to also say this: Fubara is not an ungrateful person. If I were a bad person, you (one) can’t hide a character that is bad for more than one week, two weeks, one month, one year, two years, eight years, even more than eight years. For 16 years, if I was a bad person, everybody would have known.

“But, even your own child that is in your house that you have given birth to, let us start with even the girl child. It gets to a stage, where your girl child will enter the bathroom and lock the door from behind.

“Even if they forcefully put a feeding bottle in my mouth, if I get filled up, won’t I pull it out? So, when people stand outside and say what they say, I want you people to ask them to tell you in their own good conscience, what is that bad thing; that wickedness, that ungratefulness that this man (Fubara) has ever shown or done. But, I leave that one to God who will judge everybody.”

Fubara, however, said the visit was not a time to address those issues surrounding the political crisis but a day to appreciate the delegation and the Almighty God for what He had been doing for the state.

He recalled how people had injected the propaganda of ethnic politics into the crisis but noted that Ikwerre people had come to publicly show support, adding that the solidarity visit explained clearly that they were part of his government and were supporting it to the end.

The governor assured that his administration would continue to work with well-meaning people, to execute more developmental projects in the four local government areas of Ikwerre ethnic nationality.

He said: “What kind of support again do I need, when their fathers are here with me to say look, we support you. It is the greatest blessing that any son can get. So, let me thank all the royal fathers, and opinion leaders of Ikwerre (Nation) Worldwide for this support.

“I want to assure you that not minding what is happening, I will not throw caution to the wind. I will continue to appreciate the support you people gave and continue to give to me through one of your sons.

“It doesn’t matter whether the person accepts it or not. I will continue to appreciate it. That one alone is what makes me restrain my actions when it gets to that point when I need to act.

“The restrain is because I was a well-brought-up boy. My story is clean: I wasn’t disowned. I was a pure young man. I served people, and I have a genuine record of everything. So, I tell you with all boldness and strength that I am well brought up, and for that reason, I have respect for others.”

Fubara insisted that he would continue to show respect and appreciate people, adding that he would not take the love of the for granted

He said: “I assure you that we are going to work together for the progress and development of our State.

“I just want to appeal to all of you, always stand for what is right. It doesn’t matter whether one million people are on the other side. If you are the only one standing on the right side, stand: you won’t get tired. But those people standing on the wrong side, definitely, will be exhausted.

“Let me also assure you people that are here and the people that you represent: our government will be a government that will give equal opportunity to everybody. It will be a government that will operate a system where no man is oppressed.

“I will not by any means, directly or indirectly, oppress anybody. I want to leave this office and be a peaceful man, walk the streets without security. That is the greatest achievement of a good leader”.

Fubara, who promised, on behalf of the government, to take over and complete the Obiri Ikwerre Secretariat, donated N100million for the operations of the organisation, as well as a car gift to the President-General of Ogbakor Ikwerre worldwide.

In his speech, the President General of Ogbakor Ikwerre Worldwide, Eze Godspower Onuekwa, said as Ikwerre people, they had had their turn governing the state, and could not sit by and watch an unknown person destroy the peace of the state.

While commending the governor for the numerous developmental projects being executed across the various local government areas, including those of Ikwerre, Eze Onuekwa, pledged the unalloyed support of the good people of Ikwerre ethnic nationality to the administration.

On his part, the chairman of Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, said the stakeholders of Ikwerre ethnic nationality visited to encourage Fubara to show sufficient capacity in governing the state.

Eze Wodo urged Fubara not to be distracted but to remain focused, steer the affairs of the state fearlessly, and be sure of the Ikwerre support.

“But, we are here in Degema today to assess the level of work ongoing. As you can see, we don’t have a befitting and standard healthcare facility here. And that is why we need to put this place in order to make it standard.”

The governor added: “Part of the areas that have just been explained to me on my visit this afternoon is the area earmarked for staff quarters: doctors and nurses; areas that will be used to develop a modern mortuary and a laundry, because a medical facility must have a standard laundry.

Appeal court judgement: Fubara assures Govt unwavering commitment to good governance

Gov.Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers has assured the people of the state of unwavering commitment to providing critical infrastructure required for the speedy development of the state.

Fubara gave the assurance while speaking to newsmen after the inspection of the reconstruction work at the Zonal Hospital in Bori town, Khana Local Government Area.

The governor said that there was no cause to worry over the recent pronouncements of the appeal court.

According to him, there is no cause to worry because God has prepared him a table of blessings in the presence of his enemies.

“I know that a lot of you will be wondering what is going on and all that. Government has its own challenges. If you go to the book of Psalm 23 verse 5, in the Bible, it said that God prepares a table before you; it can be before anybody.

“But there is an underlined word that should be noted there: it said ‘in the presence of your enemies’. So, it means that nothing comes easy.

“I want to assure everyone of you and the good people of Rivers State, that we are not deterred. We have made our promises, we will continue to give you good governance, no matter how difficult it is.

“But, like I said before, the worse is over. We are moving on to ensure that we continue to provide what is needed for the development of our state,” he said.

Fubara stated that healthcare, education, agriculture among other sectors would be his top priority and would be given uncompromised attention and optimal services.
