“It is our culture and tradition as a great party (APC) and government to always sympathise with the masses when they are in moments of grief, and be with them to comfort them and make them feel that they are not alone during the unhappy time.

“I decided to personally come down to Bichi because of the enormity of the death, and because the officers gallantly died in active national service.”

“I feel the pain the way the families left behind by the deceased officers feel,” Abubakar, a federal lawmaker representing the area, said.

Edo 2024: PDP tackles Ganduje over comments on polls

The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, for his assertion that the APC would secure victory in the upcoming governorship election on November 16.

The party described Ganduje’s remarks as adding insult to injury, highlighting his claim that the APC aims to dominate all five southeastern states instead of showing remorse for undermining the people’s will.

Kennedy Peretei, the spokesman for the Ondo PDP, stated that Ondo State is not a place where citizens can be intimidated or silenced.

He emphasised that the people of Ondo are educated and resilient.

He said results announced at the state collation centre were fabricated, saying figures were different from those uploaded into the INEC Irev portal.

He said: “The people of Edo State could never have elected a man who promised to bring “Insecurity to Edo State”

“Let Ganduje first give the ‘Edo Treatment to his people in Kano State, where he was humiliated by a relatively unknown New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in last year’s gubernatorial election.”

    • Plaintiff vows to appeal judgment

A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking the removal of Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Delivering judgment yesterday, Justice Inyang Ekwo held that the plaintiff – the APC North Central Group, led by Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga – lacked the locus standi (the legal right) to institute the case.

Justice Ekwo held that the plaintiff lacked the legal capacity to approach the court on the issue raised because it is not a juristic person, as it was not registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), as required.

The judge also found that the subject matter of the suit falls within the realm of the internal affairs of the political party.

Justice Ekwo also held that the appointment of officers of the APC by its National Executive Committee (NEC) is an internal affair of the party, which no court could interfere with.

The judgment was on a suit that had Ganduje, the APC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants.

The judge held that “in this case, the plaintiff, having not established that it is an incorporated body, has no power to sue in the first place. This action (case) fails on this leg of locus standi”.

He added: “I, therefore, resolve the issue of locus standi against the plaintiff and in favour of the first and second defendants. By this resolution, the issue of locus standi respectively raised by the first and second defendants is hereby resolved in their favour.

“On the issue of this action being an internal affair of second defendant; internal affairs of an association of which a political party, such as the second defendant (APC) is one, refer to matters involving the inner workings of the association.

“It is known jurisprudence that the court will not dabble into the inner workings of a political party and must allow the political party to be guided by its constitution and the acts of its majority members.

“The practice of the court is not to run associations (corporations and unincorporated associations) for the members. It leaves the members to run the association.”

Justice Ekwo also held that Ganduje’s appointment, which was an act of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the APC – whether or not it was done in accordance with the party’s constitution – could only be reversed by the national convention of the party and not by the court.

He said: “I find, therefore, that that the act complained of by the plaintiff is indeed within the realm of the internal affairs of the second defendant, and the court cannot interfere.

“On the whole, I find that the plaintiff has no juristic personality, lacks locus standi and the subject matter of this case is an internal affair of the political party and the court ought not to interfere.”

The plaintiff had filed the suit to query the propriety of Ganduje’s appointment as APC national chairman, since he is not from the Northcentral.

It argued that the NEC of the APC breached the party’s constitution when it appointed Ganduje, from Kano State, in the Northwest to replace Senator Abdullahi Adamu from Nasarawa State in the Northcentral.

The plaintiff also contended that Ganduje’s appointment to replace Abdullahi was contrary to Article 31.5(1) f of the APC constitution and ultra vires the powers of the party’s NEC.

Reacting to the judgment, the plaintiff’s lawyer, Ayuba Abdul, said his client would file an appeal against it.

Also reacting to the court verdict, Zazzaga said: “I am not surprised the way the judgment has gone. However, we will appeal the decision.”

According to the forum’s Secretary and Chairman Cross River State, “to the blind and deaf, the activities of Chief Tony Okocha’s executives in the past seven months have not only made Rivers State APC Chapter one of the most active, resilient and vibrant Chapters but the dynamic leadership of Chief Tony Okocha has given a new lease of life to the doldrums, docility and chicanery that once pervaded the political landscape of APC in Rivers State before the 2023 general election.

North Central APC condemns Gov Sule for endorsing Ganduje

North Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has condemned the endorsement of the National Chairman of the party Abdullahi Ganduje by the Chairman of the North Central Governors’ Forum and Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Sule.

Speaking with reporters at the forum’s headquarters in Jos the Plateau State capital, the Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, said the courtesy visit Sule paid to the party secretariat in Abuja on Friday to pledge his support for Ganduje was for selfish and personal interest and not the interest of the North Central region, the APC or the President Bola Tinubu led administration.

The chairman said such endorsement by Governor Sule which is coming when the party stakeholders from the region are pushing for the return of the National Chairmanship position to the North Central is not only insensitive and mischievous, but also an act of betrayal of the entire region.

Zazzaga who was also a member of the Presidential Campaign Council in the last election, pointed out that governor Sule knows well that the National Chairmanship position according to the party arrangement and zoning ought to be for the North Central after the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu who is not only from the North Central region but also from Governor Sule’s own state of Nasarawa.

He said for Governor Sule to openly come out and betray his state and the entire region shows that he is someone who is not after the progress of his own state, the North Central region, and he is not a man of equity and justice.

“Governor Sule is not a founding member of the APC because he came in along the line, and so he does not understand the progressive ideology and drive of the party.

“That is why he is doing things contrary to the concept of the party stakeholders, chieftains, bigwigs and members, as well as supporters.

“Besides we all know that in the 2023 election, the APC in Nasarawa State didn’t perform satisfactorily under governor Sule; this is obvious in the number of the legislators won by the party as well as the ones the opposition parties clinched.

“It is also a known fact that Governor Sule didn’t do well also at the 2023 polls, and if not for the judiciary which upheld his election, anything could have happened and APC would have lost the state.

“By and large, what has been Governor Sule’s contribution to the progress of the APC since he joined the party? Again, what has been his development indices and strides in Nasarawa State? With the increase in allocation gotten by the states today, what has Nasarawa State been able to do or has to show under Governor Sule?

“And time and again, we have had grumblings in many quarters about the leadership style of Governor Sule in the state which many frown upon.
