Premium Pensions Limited has paid over N152 billion to over 70,000 retirees since 2005 as benefits, its Executive Director, Mrs Kemi Oluwashina has said.

She made this known during a seminar in Lagos where she presented a paper titled: “Repositioning the Nigerian economy- the insurance and pension industry perspective”.

She said the company has an authorised share capital of N1.3 billion, significantly above minimum regulatory requirement and is 100 per cent owned by Nigerians.

Speaking on why workers should choose Premium Pensions as their PFA, she said the company has strong historical investment returns, excellent customer service and operational efficiency–excellent use of technology platforms (online, mobile app, multi-lingual call centre with IVR, smsetc) and highly skilled and motivated workforce.

She said: “RSA portfolio return peaked at 13.16 per cent in 2013 following equity market boom, but subsequently dipped to 8.03 per cent in 2014 in the aftermath of the broad economic down turn. Return performance has since stabilised on the growth path; 2017 fully ear return was 16.25 per cent, while H1-2018 return is 7.58 per cent. Average return on the RSA portfolio between 2012 and 2017 was 12.01 per cent, higher than the corresponding inflation average of 11.8 per cent over the period.

“The annual returns figures presented are audited, and net of all fees and taxes. Retiree portfolio return reflected more stability, maintaining a range of 10.7 per cent,12.65 per cent between 2012 to 2016. Return in 2017 stands out at 17.13 per cent, reflecting the high yield environment that characterized the fixed income space foremost part of the year.

  • NEMSA to get service scheme

The Nigeria Electricity Management Service Agency (NEMSA) Managing Director, Peter Ewesor has promised to introduce a service scheme for the agency.

According to him, in order to also strengthen manpower capacity in the agency, the NEMSA condition of service is almost ready for approval.

He stated this yesterday while addressing executive members of the Nigerian Institution of Power Engineers (NIPE) who paid a courtesy visit to the agency in Abuja.

Ewesor, who is also the Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation, said there is the propensity to forget all the undergraduate trainings after several years of unemployment or lack of practice.

He said  he would need a tripartite arrangement with the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN), NEMSA and NIPE to brainstorm on how to brush up the holders of NEMSA certificates.

He recalled that around 1998, “you can no longer go above level 10 unless you are a certified engineer.”

Ewesor insisted that “And I think it is something we can equally do to see how best we can encourage our people. In fact, we will do our scheme of service. In fact that is the next thing we are going to do.

“It is one of the legacies I must leave behind. Our condition of service is almost ready for approval. The scheme of service will be the next and after you have them we would have been fully established.”

The NIPE National Chairman, Engr. Abraham Israel had sought that the association collaborates with the agency to weed out incompetents and ignorant practitioners from the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

He told the Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation that his discovery of the dearth of capacity in the power sector at the interview of applicants for NEMSA certification was worrisome.

According to him, the industry has capacity issue to tackle.

Israel submitted that for the applicants “there must be some orientation at least a day. The interview must be for three days. For the first day you must go through some little orientation or class work where the entire industry document will be read to you.  You need to know the act. Most of them don’t know what NESI looks like.”

  • Communities get 51 transformers

    Communities get 51 transformers

The Lagos State Government has handed over 51 transformers to rural, riverine and semi-urban communities across the state to boost electricity generation and distribution.

Handing over the transformers at the Elsewedy Electric Nig. Ltd premises in Badagry, Lagos, Commissioner for Rural Development Cornelius Ojelabi hailed members of the House of Assembly for getting Governor Babatunde Fashola to accede to the communities request.

He said the government came to their aid because the Eko Distribution Company (EKDC) and Ikeja Distribution Company (IKDC) could not meet their needs.

The state, he said, has been providing transformers for the electrification of rural communities, schools, hospitals and other infrastructure over the years, despite that being the Federal Government’s responsibility.

Ojelabi said: “When the Federal Government privatised power generation and distribution over three years ago, the state government felt it cannot be providing infrastructure for private company’s business. More so, when the over N10 billion used in providing infrastructure over the years to aid power generation and distribution was not refunded by the Federal Government after the privatisation of the power sector.

“When the private companies cannot solve the problem as expected, the governor being a responsible and responsive governor cannot but yield to the yearnings of the people in the procurement and installation of the transformers.”

He urged the chiefs, leaders of Community Development Associations (CDAs) and youths to take charge of the transformers when installed.

“Government will continue to cater for your needs till the last day of this administration as promised by the State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola,” he said, adding that government had carried out several developmental projects in Badagry.

Ojelabi said: “A government that is promoting a safe community and providing an enabling and conducive environment for business to thrive is worth supporting.”

Chairman, House Committee on Energy and Mineral Resources Lanre Ogunyemi thanked the state for supporting private electricity power generation and distribution firms.
