    Gifty: Stardom isn’t for liars

I have seen Gifty, the evicted housemate in the ongoing Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) show cry a couple of times in the house – her tears were as phoney as her accents and flawed as her grammatical gaffes.

Thus, when she seemingly broke down in tears on HipTV recently, while confessing she was once married, I got one of the most irritations of my life.

Recall that in my last piece, I described this fair-skinned lady as a natural game player, when, after leaving the BBNaija house, she stuck to her guns, claiming zero knowledge of the man called David Sorochukwu Akumah, her ‘former’ husband. I did say the suspense will one day get an ending, without knowing the end will be this soon.

Now that it seems Gifty is tired of fooling herself, discerning minds are still waiting for more confessions because, merely claiming she was naïve when she got married is nothing short of half-truth. Before she can get the public sympathy which appears to be what she is craving at the moment, Gifty should tell the world what she meant by being naïve. It is not impossible that she may have her own meaning. By being naïve, was she forced into marriage? If yes, by who? And if she believes she is ripe for marriage now, it is important to know if she intends to return to her husband, unless, as claimed by Augustine Akumah, David’s cousin, she is running her mother’s script.

Meanwhile, if what she is trying to sell to the world is a story of domestic violence, she would need more evidence to disprove the current good impression that people have about the Akumah family in the contest of her marriage.

Until then, the empathy is to David, who appears to have fallen for the wrong woman.

While it is not clear the real factors responsible for the breakup, as neither Gifty nor David have made any comment on the issue, there are indications David was in love with Gifty.

Fetched from his Facebook account, on April 5, 2014, David Sorochukwu Akumah wrote: “We happily invite U 2 our white weddn on 6th April 9am:@Assemblies of God Odunikwe. 12pm:Receptn @WDC Ai. Akumah Dave & Brain Gifty.”. On August 3, 2014, he wrote: “She’s my wife, my BF(best friend),my queen, my mother, my soulmate, my joy and my forever heartbeat. “Without the Heartbeat in Me, I Can’t Be Alive”…A Splendid Sunday to You, HUN!” On September 6, 2014, David Sorochukwu Akumah added 3 new photos — with Ogechukwu Amos. He captioned them with these words: “Watch my wife on her action moves, especially in “Nkoli nwa nsukka”… that’s when she comes in with her flow, lol..lol *Congrats wify*”. On September 10, 2014, he added two new photos and captioned them thus: “My queen, My Wife, My Beauty, My Soul, My Heartbeat, My Princess, My Everlasting Gift.. I blessed the day I found you, you’re one in a ZILLION girls… No matter what happens I will never let you go, I will forever love you even in death…you will always be my WIFE! I miss you my JOY! Keep rocking NOLLYWOOD! I gat ya back.”

However, this related post from Gifty’s Facebook since October 26, 2014 is pregnant with innuendos.

She said: “Sometimes we do things that we think is right…but not knowing you hurting someone’s feelings….Love they say can be broken only if you treat it like an egg it is…….. And if it’s broken then don’t blame anyone but yourself because it was your duty to treat it properly….. #FACTS#”

Going by the long disparaging epistle written by Augustine Akumah over Gifty’s denials, it appears the latter is the faction in this drama that has something to hide.

Even when Augustine shared photos from the wedding which was attended by former governor of Ebonyi State, Sam Egwu, Gifty claimed it was photo-shopped.

The truth is that right now, it is pretty difficult to divorce Gifty from lies and fakery. The name of the game in which she marketed herself to the world is called ‘Reality Show’, not some scripted Asaba movies she has featured in. The audience see through the characters of the housemates, and didn’t even need the David Akumah’s twist to know that Gifty was an impostor.

This she admitted to The Nation in an interview where she claimed that the kisses and accents were faked because of the N25 million prize.

Now, having lost that money, she continues to swim in controversy that wouldn’t make any brand want to touch her. There is no evidence that her marriage was dissolved legally. And the Mr2 Kay she was romantically linked with was the same guy that accompanied her to the AMVCAs and the eviction party organised for the so-far evicted housemates.

I hope that Gifty’s case is not like that of the proverbial lunatic who is exciting to watch but not worthy of being called a relative. It is noteworthy that Uriel, who was evicted after Gifty, has bagged an endorsement as brand ambassador for Payporte.

    Indeed, stardom isn’t for liars.

At last, Gifty admits she was once married

Evicted Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) housemate, Gifty Brian (Ajumobi) popularly known as “Gifty’’ in the on-going reality TV show on Tuesday admitted that she was once married after several denials.

Sequel to her eviction, a man who identified himself as Augustine Akuma and claimed to be a cousin to her supposed husband released photos from the Gifty’s wedding while she was in the house.

Gifty who was evicted from the show on Day 28, in series of interviews denied ever being married, stressing that the rumour would only make her more famous.

The 23-year-old actress and model in an interview with Hiptv said the period she was married was a dark period in her life that she would not want to go back to.

She said: “I will say it here and now that the marriage issue was kind of real; I was once married, it was a dark part of my life that I don’t want to ever go back to.

“My advice to every young girl out there; before you go into a marriage, you have to be physically, mentally, emotionally and physiologically matured because I was naive,” she said.

Akuna had accused the former housemate of deceiving her fans by claiming that she was not married.

He further alleged that the couple had irreconcilably differences over Gifty’s “cheating lifestyle while still in her husband’s house.’’

Gifty, who had a pretty controversial time in the house with her string of kisses, multinational accent and comments about not knowing Nigerian celebrities, Falz and Banky w, left the house empty handed.

She was the fourth to be evicted from the show after Soma, Miyose and Coco Ice.

  • GIFTY: THOUGH I KISSED BUT NEVER FELT CHEAP

GIFTY: THOUGH I KISSED BUT NEVER FELT CHEAP

Recently evicted Big Brother Naija housemate, Gifty, in this interview with JOE AGBRO JR. clears the air about her rumoured marriage, fake accent and being tagged as the most controversial housemate. Excerpts

HOW do you feel, not winning the 25million prize?

I’m a human being. I’m meant to feel a little bit bad but I’m feeling a little bit not good. But all the same, it’s a game.

Who do you think might win the grand prize?

I feel everyone is a winner. Whoever the winner may be, I wish the person good luck. I don’t have anyone in mind. I just see everyone as a winner.

What lessons have you learnt about life when you look back at all that have transpired in the BBNaija house?

I have learnt more about understanding and tolerance. I’ve acquired a little bit of wisdom there because nobody is perfect. Every day, we learn in life. It’s not easy to cope with different characters, and to mingle with them. So, yes, I’ve learnt so many things.

What would you do differently, given another opportunity?

I think I would actually… hmm. At first, it was a game. I brought so many acting stuffs up. So, I think I would bring lots of me in it if I’m given a second chance and I will try to prove to the viewers that this is me.

Some people are of the opinion that kissing all the guys in the house made you ‘cheap’. What do you say to that?

I always say this: It was actually a game plan. So, whoever I kissed, whoever I did something with was part of the game. So, nothing attached actually. I’ve never felt cheap. It wasn’t based on cheapness or anything. It was just based on strategy. I was just acting up. I feel, ‘yeah, it’s a game,’ let’s play it. I wasn’t feeling bad, I wasn’t feeling innocent, I was just feeling, ‘alright, let’s play the game’ because that was part of the plan.

How do you feel being tagged the most controversial housemate on the show?

Actually, my game plan was to be controversial and hilarious. So, being controversial was also part of my game plan. So, I feel good.

Tell us one uplifting thing that a family member or friend has said to you since you left the house.

Yesterday (Tuesday), I actually got comments from my friends and they were like, ‘Omo babe, you bad ooo, you get mind ooo,’ ‘my God, I can’t believe you went to that extent,’ ‘anyway, I trust you, I know what you can do.’ Crazy stuffs.

And one embarrassing thing that a family member or friend has said to you since you left the house…

Oh no. No embarrassing comments because they actually know who I am and they knew what I can do. Being an actress, we can act whatever needs to be done. They actually trusted my actions and never judged me.

What is the true situation with your accent; make believe too?

Okay, first of all, I’m actually an actress. So being an actress, you’re meant to bring different characters, you’re meant to make your viewers happy and enjoy your actions. So me being in the house, I felt like I was on set with cameras all around me and everything. And really, this is how I talk. I’m not forming anything. I’m a typical Nigerian, from Anambra State. So, all the different accents and everything was just based on acting. Everything was fake. I was just trying to keep my viewers happy and enjoy watching me. So, as an actress, you need to be gifted, so I made everything up. It was part of my game plan. So, that’s it.

You were so excited each time it was either a kissing festival or Truth or Dare game, did you think those daring exercises were what the viewers like?

Everything based on Big Brother was ‘be crazy’, ‘be mad’, ‘be gaga’. If you want to have sex, do it. So, I think it was part of it. And definitely, I’m sure the viewers also enjoyed it.

Did it ever bother you how people at home would perceive you?

Actually, for every action that I displayed there, for every word that I spoke there, I ignored whatever word that people might say. I just went ahead and did everything. Everything that I had planned, I just had to display it because definitely, you want something, you ‘gotta’ do whatever it takes.

Who was your favourite mate in the house?

My favourite housemate was actually Miyonse. Miyonse was this kind of innocent-looking calm chef who everybody adores and love. Don’t get it wrong. I love everybody too but definitely, there is going to be your favourite person. Miyonse was my favourite because he was this kind of understanding, calm, reserved, normal fun person to be with.

What is your attachment to shredded jeans?

Okay, I love shredded jeans so much. It brings out the personality in me. Most of my jeans are actually ripped.

How much has Payporte improved your wardrobe?

Payporte, omo, no be small ooo. Payporte has been the best and would always be the best. In fact, it’s my favourite now and without Payporte, I don’t think my wardrobe will be that exclusive. And I will always use Payporte

Would you say those clothes you got every week are enough reason to want to go back to the house?

I don’t mind going back to the house (laughs) because oh boy, I just wish that you guys would feel it but if na because of that, Big Brother, if you dey hear me, I want to come back to the house (laughs). Payporte is the best. I would advise everybody to use Payporte.

You apologised for saying you didn’t know Banky W and Falz… Do you think your apologies have been accepted?

I feel so because Banky actually replied me and he said he knew it was a game. So, he won’t actually take my words so serious. He replied me and said, ‘baby it’s okay, no problem,’ that he understood. But I think I was misunderstood because what I actually meant was that I don’t know Banky one on one, like I don’t know him personally. That was why I had to ask one of my housemate that ‘who is that?’ before they told me that it’s Banky and I said, ‘okay.’ And besides, I’m not the music kind of person. I love working 2-47, going in and out but still the same, I really do apologise.

You were said to have walked out of your marriage in less than a year in search of fame. Do you sometimes regret that you took that decision?

Wow, when I first heard that, I was like, ‘what the … Who would say that?’ I was never married, like everything that was said was just rumours. Definitely, I’m an actress, so most of the scenes that I have acted are marriage scenes, giving a drink to an actor, so I think that person that actually posted the picture was trying to make himself or herself famous because they would like to use my identity to make themselves famous and stuffs like that. But whoever that person is, I don’t know. It’s just rumours.

You answer to Ebuka on how to achieve fame and power was not properly articulated, could you tell us a more defined approach.?

What I intend to actually do is just applying wisdom in everything in getting it because you can’t just stand and say you want power and fame. You ‘gotta’ work towards getting the power and fame. So, definitely, there are a lot of things involved.

Now that you don’t seem to be getting any movie roles in Lagos, are you planning on going back to  Asaba?

Acting has always been my passion. So, I have made up my mind that wherever I find myself in or wherever I am that I’m being called for a movie, definitely, I’m going to go for it. My location doesn’t matter, my base doesn’t matter. Whenever you need me, whenever you want me, I’m always there for my movies.

How did you feel that you were the least talented in the house, in terms of music?

Like I said, whatever action that was displayed in the house has always been the game plan.

Some pictures actually linked you to some men, could you tell us your relationship with Flavour and Mr. 2Kay?

Flavour, I had no relationship with him. I never dated him. I just saw him as a talented musician and I love his songs. And Mr 2Kay is just a very good friend of mine. We were quite close. So, nothing intimate.

Tell us about some of your rough past, including being a hair dresser.

Actually, I wouldn’t want to talk about my past because that’s why it’s called past. Past is gone. And the rumour of me being a hairdresser is wrong. I’ve never been a hairdresser before.

But you made the hair of Soma, the hair of Jon in the house so well…

I think it’ just something I love doing. I love touching people’s hair. I love touching my friends’ hair. I love playing with their hair and all that. Besides, I have a very good talent which is, if you teach me something, I learn it. I’m a quick learner.

Were you also a victim of domestic abuse as speculated?

    Ermm, no actually.

Because this was linked to why you left your marriage…

First of all, I have never been married before. It was actually rumours. So, no domestic violence, nothing.

How do you feel that BBNaija has revealed some of your best kept secrets? Would you want to attempt such reality shows in the future?

Hmm, how do I feel? Actually I feel good. I feel normal. Definitely, everyone’s secrets are going to come out. So, no big deal about that. And yes, I’d like to be in reality shows in the future. I think I will also have my own reality show but I don’t think I would want to go to any reality show because I’ve gotten what I wanted which was the Big Brother Naija. It’s a very very big platform. I think one of the biggest, so what more am I asking for? What more am I looking for?

How was it like spending  a month without your phone and social media interactions?

The first week, I felt kind of lonely, I felt kind of sad, worried because a lady’s best friend is her mobile phone. So, I felt like, ‘where is my phone? Who’s holding my phone?’ That kind of crazy thoughts. But from the second week, I felt, ‘whatever men,’ I’m here to play a game. I’m here to win N25m. So, let me just focus my mind on the game plan and the money and everything and win everybody’s heart

Apart from losing the prize money, is there a way the game has made you a better person?

Actually, yes.  First of all, I feel whatever that happens, God knows why. And it made me open to lots of great opportunities. Yes, it gave me few platforms and stuffs like that, yes, sure.

Who among the other housemates do you wish to maintain a friendship with after the show?

First is T-Boss, second is Miyonse, actually lastly is Soma.

Why? What qualities do they possess?

Not just the qualities. But because they’re good friends to me. they’ve been quite nice and cool. I kind of observed that from their game plan, they’ve brought nice and little real things about themselves out. So, yes, they’re cool.

Where do you go from here?

Where do I go from here? To the highest tower in life is where I would go from here, achieve all my dreams, achieve my projects and lay a very strong foundation and make sure that I do the right thing.

#BBNaija Ex-housemate Gifty denies marriage, sex tape, child

Gifty , the controversial ex-housemate in on going #BBNaija TV series said she is neither a mother nor married, and has no sex-tape.

Gifty , took to her Instagram handle to refute the rumour about her sex tape and marital status circulating on the social media platform on Thursday.

In her words she said, “so, they said that I am married and I have a boyfriend who is threatening to release a sex tape if I don’t share the BBN money with him…now.

“ I want to clear it out by writing it here that please I am not married, I do not have any sex tape & I do not have any child for anybody…

“These are just crazy rumours and for the fact such is out then guys do expect more. I see this person won’t rest till he/she is satisfied.’’

Gifty came under intense criticisms before her eviction when she denied knowing popular musicians Falz da Bad Guy and Banky W.

She also accused Banky W of being proud and receiving payment to visit the big brother house.
She late apologised after her eviction calling the move a ‘game plan’.

Gifty also admitted to being fake in a recent interview especially with her accent and some of her behaviour whie in the #BBNaija house. (NAN)

BBNaija: Show ends for controversial Gifty

Gifty, the fair-skinned contestant who narrowly escaped ejection from the ongoing Big Brother Naija house last week, being the housemate with the least number of votes after CocoIce, the last evictee, could not pull it through this time.
The test of popularity vote was between her, Marvis and ThinTall Tony. It however came as a surprise to many that Thin Tall Tony came second, as the anxiety was between the fans of Gifty and Marvis, with the latter’s additional strength, seemingly coming from the fans of her close allies within the competition.
Gifty’s dream of N25 million and a brand new Kia Seranto car, being the coveted prize for the would-be winner ended exactly four weeks into the competition. She was also the fourth housemate and second female to be shown the door so far.
It was her third time of being put up for possible eviction, although the first was a mock exercise. As for Marvis, who enjoys the soft spot of her gang, her two-time nomination was at the instance of Head of House’s veto to save one housemate of their choice and replace with another.
With Gifty’s exit, the number of the remaining housemates is10, although Biggie had introduced two fake housemates; Jon and Ese, who are not playing for votes or the prize.
Joining the host of the show, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on stage, Gifty saidit was fun, challenging and romantic being in the house. She said she liked the guys as brothers despite her romantic attachment to them. On her passion for power and fame, she said she could achieve them by wisdom and ‘doing the right thing’. she thought that TTT, Bisola and TBoss might have nominated her for eviction. She was surprised Kemen and Efe nominated her. On whether she was a hair dresser before, she said she acquired the skill by watching people do it.
The latest evictee is the most controversial housemate, going by certain traits for which viewers and her fellow housemates have classified her as ‘fake’. They range from her inconsistent accent, hopping from one male housemate to another and lack of a special skill like most of the housemates.
She also caught the ire of viewers recently when she claimed not to know comic rapper and rave-of-the-moment Falz the Bahd Guy, and Banky W, when both artistes visited the house at different times, adding that she didn’t like Banky W, as she felt he was proud and full of himself.
Gifty is said to have schooled in Accra, Ghana and returned to Lagos to make her dreams happen. She has featured in a few Nollywood movies, shot by her supposed husband and film director, David Sorochukwu Akumah. Reports say she walked out of her marriage few months after.
Ice Prince who performed at the eviction show sang ‘Boss’ and ‘No Mind Them’ the two times he showed up on stage. The send he performed with Vanessa Mdee.
The twist this week was a question game that had Bisola, Bassey and TBoss playing before Ebuka on stage. Bisola got her question correctly and is immuned from nomination for possible eviction in the coming week. Bassey got his question correctly too, and will enjoy a traditional dish of his choice. TBoss however missed her question and would have to wash the dishes.
The next eviction show holds on Sunday, February 26. And viewers in Nigeria are expected to text the word “Vote” followed by their preferred housemate’s name to 32052. While for the rest of Africa, fans are told to follow the AfricaMagictv official account on WeChat and click on the menu option ‘BBNaija’ and select their preferred housemate. Voting will open at 21h00 WAT on Monday, February 20 and will close at 20h00 WAT on Saturday, February 25.
Sponsored by online retail store, PayPorte, the show is aired 24/7 in 45 countries from Nigeria through East, West and Southern Africa on all DStv packages on channel 198 and GOtv channel 29.

  • What does Gifty know?

    What does Gifty know?

THERE is something about Big Brother Naija housemate, Gifty, that not only puts you off, but makes you wonder if she is worth being in the competition.

As one would observe, every housemate has got one form of talent or another and the one that seems central to all of them is music. But only Gifty is left out in this aspect, judging by her inability to sing or rap. I’ve also watched the dance session and her moves are so sloppy. The other thing expected of a lifestyle reality show of this nature is how sociable the housemates are, but it is difficult to tell where this housemate came from and what form of orientation she’d kept such that she is so clueless to a lot of things going on in the entertainment circle.

Indeed, there are two activities that Gifty is usually alive to in the house; Kissing Festival and Truth or Dare Game: both weird and less skillful exercises that she only uses to express her sexuality, as if that is the only thing that would endear viewers to her. Except of course, shouting around the house like a village hunter.

If I didn’t get proof of the fact that Gifty had acted in some Asaba films, it would be difficult to believe that she is an actress as claimed. Little wonder, her experience in acting is limited to the set of her supposed husband and film director, David Sorochukwu Akumah, playing some village girl roles that couldn’t give her the kind of Genevieve Nnaji’s fame she craved.

As if it was not bad enough that she does not know comic rapper and rave-of-the-moment Falz the Bahd Guy, she was asking who Banky W was when he visited the house. And of course, she caught the ire of viewers of the show when she told Biggie during a Diary Room session that she didn’t like his surprise guest Banky W, as she felt he was proud and full of himself. If there was any one that Biggie had to put in checks apart from Uriel’s lousy diary session, Gifty was next, as Biggie had to remind her of the stake of the BBNaija game. Biggie recognised the fact that she might upset her fans (if she has any) with her careless choice of words.

As it seems, Gifty’s knowledge of the music industry is around Flavour and Mr 2Kay, the two singers she is romantically linked with.

Talking about choice of words, I have never found this housemate articulate in her expressions. This has put a big question mark to her level of intelligence.

Gifty’s personality in the house has gone from bad to worse, if comments by viewers of the show are anything to go by. From her inconsistent accent and habit of hopping from one male housemate to another, viewers have referred to her as fake and a liar.

It was surprising that only Gifty saw ‘Mr Capable’ in that light when indeed the others let out a cry of disappointment as the buzzer signaled the end to Banky W’s visit.

Banky W had used his peculiar journey in the entertainment industry to motivate the housemates into being true to themselves. He also advised them to be comfortable with their innate talents, and to use that as a spring board to launch themselves into their true element. I guess Gifty felt different and out of place because she has not expressed any talent.

When asked by the visiting singer what she would want out of life, she said power and fame. Well, where lies this power in Gifty? In her light skin and seeming beauty?

Dear Gifty, if you are evicted from the game tomorrow, just know that you have not wielded that power appropriately and might just have been famous for displaying serial ignorance.

  • BBNaija: Who took Gifty’s bracelet?

    BBNaija: Who took Gifty’s bracelet?

Day 26 in the Big Brother Naija house and Big Brother has set the housemates up by choosing a few housemates to play pranks on the other few.

The Housemates had spent the early morning lying around the garden and reminiscing about the previous night’s Task Presentation when they were prompted by the sound of music, which meant the start of the daily exercise.

When Gifty asked the Housemates if they had seen her bracelet, TBoss seemed most offended, as the two have been close friends since they entered the House. Debie-Rise admitted knowing the prank master, revealing it was Kemen.

However, Gifty did not seem convinced, as she continued her tirade, accusing everyone in the House. She even went to the extent of suggesting that breakfast is stopped until her missing items were found.

A few suggestions on where Gifty could start looking were thrown around. ThinTallTony suggested she looked outside since several props, clothes and accessories were left outside last night after the Task Presentation. “I checked. It’s not there!” yelled Gifty.

The Housemates spent the rest of the morning wondering who is responsible for the missing items while preparing breakfast and chatting. Let’s see if Gifty’s missing items turn up.

  • BBNaija: Gifty, Marvis, TTT know fate this Sunday

BBNaija: Gifty, Marvis, TTT know fate this Sunday

    •As new HoH saves TBoss

Gifty is going through the same anxiety she faced last week, having been put up again for possible eviction this Sunday.

She was nominated on Monday alongside TBoss and ThinTallTony. However, TBoss who had gone through the heat before, albeit a fake eviction, was saved by new Head of House, Ese, who replaced her with Marvis. It will be Marvis’ second time on the eviction hot seat too.

Predictions for this week’s nominations were a bit sketchy at first but as the housemates made their way one after the other to the Diary Room to nominate two housemates each for possible eviction, it became clear who would be making the cut.

As it was during the last nomination show, Bally was called in first by big brother to make his selection. He once again delayed the use of his advantage card and nominated Bisola and TTT. For the rest housemates, Efe nominated Tboss and Gifty; Gifty nominated Kemen and Bassey; TTT nominated Tboss and Gifty; Bassey nominated Efe and TTT; Bisola nominated Tboss and Gifty; Kemen nominated Debie-rise and Gifty; Debie-rise nominated TTT and Marvis; TBoss nominated Marvis and Uriel; Uriel nominated Tboss and Debie-rise while Marvis breaks Bally’s clean slate by nominating him and Uriel for possible eviction.

Although Gifty, TBoss and TTT had the highest number of nomination nods, as it is the norm, Biggie called on new Head of House and fake housemate, Ese, to save one of the housemates and replace with another. In a defining moment, Ese opted to save TBoss and replaced her with Marvis.

With the results from the nomination session officially announced by Biggie, social media micro-blogging site Twitter has been buzzing with viewers campaigning for their favorite housemates.
