    Leading telecommunication firm, Globacom, on Friday opened  another retail outlet in Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos.

    The Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Jelili Suleiman, assured the company of quality patronage by the community.

    Sulaiman, who was the special guest at the commissioning of the Gloworld shop, commended Globacom for bringing its services closer to the people of Alimosho. “Globacom is our company; we are going to patronise you; we will ensure that this shop flourishes.  You will never regret that you brought your branch to Iyana Ipaja”, he declared.

    Also at the event  were the Leader of the council’s Legislative  House, Obadina Ahmed , council officials, Akeweje of Alimosho General,  Jamin Shotayo Tadeyo,  who stood in for the Baale of Iyana Ipaja, High Chief Rasak Mosaku.

    Globacom’s business partner who covers the area, Mr Chukwuma Leonard, who is also the Managing Director, Talkpoint Telecommunications, also lauded Glo for siting its outlet in Iyana Ipaja.

    Abdulrazaq Ande who represented Globacom  at the event said that the new premium experiential center is another in a new generation of iconic contact centers which are aesthetically appealing and equipped for comfort and speedy services.

    Glo unveils dedicated fibre to homes, businesses

    Two new products, which provide internet connectivity solutions specially designed for Residential and SME commercial customers, have been unveiled by digital solutions company, Globacom.

    The products, Fibre to the Home (FTTH) and Fibre to the Business (FTTB) were packaged for Glo customers to enjoy reliable and high speed internet through linked fibre services.

    Globacom said in a statement in Lagos “With these services, businesses and homes can access dedicated internet speeds of up to 1GBps, allowing unlimited internet usages for seamless video calls, video and music streaming and a whole lot of other dedicated usages to promote business success and equally provide endless entertainment for homes”.

    Globacom: We are not owing MTN interconnect charges

    Globacom Ltd, a Nigerian Telecommunications Company yeaterday denied reports making the rounds that it was owing MTN interconnect charges.

    A source in Globacom said the amount due for payment was N1.6 billion and it had been paid without controversy.

    It would be recalled that a public pre-disconnection notice signed by the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC’s) Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, had been posted on the commission’s Twitter page on Monday, Jan. 8.

    The notice stated that Glo failed to settle its outstanding debts despite repeated attempts at resolution.

    It stated that after reviewing the application and the circumstances relating to the indebtedness, Globacom lacked the significant or justifiable reasons for failing to pay the interconnect charges.

    Part of the public notice read: “All subscribers are requested to take notice that the commission has approved the partial disconnection of Globacom to MTN.

    “This is in accordance with Section 100 of the Nigerian Communications Act (2003) and paragraph nine of the Guidelines on Procedure for Granting Approval to Disconnect Telecommunications Operators (2012).

    “At the expiration of 10 days from Jan. 8, 2024, subscribers of Globacom will no longer be able to make calls to MTN but will be able to receive calls.

    The Glo official said a proper cross checking of facts should have been done before concluding that the telco was owing MTN.

    “We are not owing MTN any interconnect charges,” the Glo official said.

    The official added that Glo was the first telecoms company that introduced the pay per second form of billing, thereby cutting the monopoly of the other foreign companies operating in Nigeria.

    According to the Glo official, the report against the fully indigenous telecommunications company is false.

    Globacom pays outstanding debt

    Globacom Limited has successfully cleared its outstanding debt obligations to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). The debts include unpaid Spectrum Fees, Numbering Fees and Annual Operating Levy (AOL).

    Based on this development, the NCC yesterday said it has restored regulatory services to the operator.

    The Commission had temporarily withdrawn the suspension of regulatory services to Globacom in a letter dated May 22, 2023, entitled: “Re: Continuous Breach of Commission’s Laws and Regulations.”

    The Commission said it has also stepped down its planned enforcement action against mobile network operator (MNO) over what it alleged was a breach of extant regulations by failing to pay its debts despite several demand notices.

    “The suspension of regulatory services to Globacom was automatically reinstated after it failed to meet the conditions for the earlier withdrawal,” Director, Public Affairs at the NCC, Reuben Muoka, said in a short statement yesterday.

    GLOBACOM’S stand at the just-concluded Africa Chief Executive Officers (CEO) Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, was the cynosure of all eyes as scores of chief executives of multinational companies visited to seek the operator’s connectivity solutions to drive their businesses.

    Conference host, Rwandan President, Paul Kagame, had kicked off the enquiries at a meeting with Globacom Executive Vice Chairman, Mrs. Bella Disu. Their deliberation centred on areas of bilateral collaboration between Rwanda and Globacom.

    Notable among those who visited the Globacom stand were Group CEO of Togo-based Ecobank, Ade Adeyemi; Chairman, KPMG Africa, Kunle Elebute; Group CEO of Ark Hudson, Ugo Ikpeazu, and Head of Business, Mara Phone, James Kasugi.

    Others were MTN Chairman, Cameroon, Colin Mukete; CEO, Credit Registry, Jameelah Sharrieff; CEO, Sodeico, Congo Democratic Republic, Djo Falanga and Director-General of Azur, Gabon, Jean Obambi.

    The business executives held discussions on internet connectivity, mobile money solutions, Wide Area Connectivity (WAN), credit check for postpaid subscribers, and bundled mobile solutions for government establishments.

    At the digital economy session, Mrs. Disu canvassed the need for governments across Africa to create the enabling environment for telecommunication companies to connect cities and rural communities to the internet. She said this would help operators adopt digital solutions that would keep Africa abreast of global trends.

    She said: “The world is experiencing rapid digital transformation, and because we live in an exponential world, it’s no longer a question of ‘do I have to innovate’, we must innovate.

    “So, telecom operators will spearhead this innovation. First, we provide the infrastructure, the network, the platforms and connectivity for digital transformation to occur, and the resulting effect is big data, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and internet of things which connects everything to everybody. So businesses must run on new business models to stay in business.”

  • Glo, Huawei empower 30 varsities, 150 Nigeria students

    Nigeria’s second largest carrier, Globacom and global information communication technology (ICT) firm, Huawei Technologies have partnered to reward Nigerian students across institutions in the country with a combination of high-end smartphones and super-fast internet service. The programme, targeted at 30 universities and 150 Nigerian students, will be offering free Huawei smartphones loaded with six months unlimited Glo 4G data to five students and five Huawei routers with pre-loaded 60GB of Glo 4G data to the institution. Students to be rewarded are the top five final year students in each institution.

    According to the two firms, the plan is to aid fast and free internet Wi-Fi connectivity for research in schools to enable students stay connected to good internet for academic tasks while outside of the school premises for free.

    The programme kicked off yesterday at the Babcock University, Ilishan, Ogun State, where the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Prof Iheayichukwu Okoro, led other members of the university to receive the routers.

    The five outstanding final year students of Babcock University who received the Huawei Y5 smartphones were Dogo Edafe Bawa of Business Education, Olusoji Ifejesu Precious of Accounting Department, Ojutiku Toluwanimi Oluwaseun of Economics, Ajulibe Goziem Benjamin of Medical Laboratory Science and Anifowose Airat Morolake of Computer Science department.

    Speaking during the ceremony, Prof Okoro thanked Globacom and Huawei Technologies for the gesture which he said would motivate students to be more hard working, engender healthy competition and spur them to exceptional performance. “We have always had faith in Globacom as we were part of the first set of postpaid lines and close user group (CUG) users. Our students will continue to cherish this recognition of excellence. Thank you Globacom; thank you Huawei,” he said.

    Also speaking, the university’s registrar, Dr. Jonathan Nwosu, commended the speed and reliability ofGlo’s 4G network set up by Huawei Technologies. He said: “Glo is Babcock, Babcock is Glo. This is reward for hard work. Hard work pays. We thank you for rewarding excellence in academics.”

    One of the beneficiaries, 19-year-old Ojutiku Toluwanimi expressed gratitude for the gesture, stating that her parents and other family members were very happy Glo subscribers. Another recipient, 36-year-old Mrs Dogo Edafe Bawa, commended Globacom and Huawei Technologies for the free smartphones and data; enjoining other service providers to emulate Globacom’s standard of excellence.

    Globacom’s Regional Manager, Retail Sales, Lagos/Ogun, Mr. Olufolahan Faseyitan, urged members of the university community to use the opportunity of the company’s on-going week-long data clinic to upgrade to Glo 4G to experience the new speed of life and enjoy memorable communication experience. He noted that the availability of Glo 4G in all tertiary institutions in the country validates the claim that Globacom has the widest and most reliable 4G LTE coverage in Nigeria.

    Representing Huawei Technologies Company Nigeria Limited, the Deputy Human Resources Director, Mrs. Dorothy Johnson, expressed Huawei’s pledge to assisting its clients’ business success by providing leading innovation technology and all-encompassing support as it does for Globacom and other clients.   • Glo sponsors Special athletes to Olympics

    Globacom is sponsoring three members of the Nigerian team to the next Special Olympic World Summer Games slated for Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), between March 14 and 21.

    Nigeria will join other 171 countries to compete for medals in track and field events, featuring athletes with intellectual disabilities; among them being those with autism, down’s syndrome and several forms of learning disorders.

    The beneficiaries who received their cheques at  brief presentation event held at the Globacom headquarters in Lagos are  Miss Tejumola Ogunlela, aquatics; Chima Maduakor – Track and field; Oyinkansola Givens Joseph – Badminton. Glo’s largesse is meant to cater for the cost of training  and travel for the individual athletes.

    Presenting the cheques to the athletes, its Executive Director, Legal Services, Mrs. Gladys Talabi, said the telco had also sponsored two members of the successful Nigerian Contingent to the Special Olympics in 2011. That contingent returned from Athens in Greece with a total of 27 medals comprising nine gold, nine silver and nine bronze medals.

    Talabi said the telco was again sponsoring this year’s participation because the games are meant to improve lives of the special children, helping them  to reach their full potential, and to create greater social inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities.

    She commended the athletes for their determination in the face of disability. She said it was not compulsory that the team should win medals, saying that the fact that they were bold enough to dare despite of their challenges was victory on its own.

  • Ojude-Oba: Globacom storms Ijebu with Mr Real, others

    Globacom, the telecommunications giant and sponsor of the 2018 Ojude-Oba Festival in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun, has announced that it has lined up three iconic artistes to excite guests at the event.

    The company made the announcement on Wednesday in a statement issued by Mr Afolabi Otufowora, Globacom Marketing and Communications Head, Lagos/Ogun Region.

    The trio, according to the statement, include the “legbegbe” crooner, Mr Real; Idowest, the “shepeteri” creator and Oluwafemi Oke-Eko, the street ambassador popularly known as “Slimcase.’’

    Globacom said the artistes would entertain at the 2018 Ojude-Oba Beauty Pageant scheduled for Thursday.

    The statement added that a road show had already begun in Ijebu-Ode and environs to generate awareness about activities lined up for the festival.

    NAN reports that the Ojude-Oba festival is celebrated two days after the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, with this year’s edition having Senate President, Bukola Saraki, as the special guest of honour.
