Delivering his reappointment letter at the emir’s palace in Pindiga, the Secretary to the Gombe State Government (SSG), Abubakar Sule Bage, said Ahmed’s reinstatement followed the deposition of Yakubu, who was allegedly found guilty of several complaints against him.

The SSG said the committee, which investigated Ahmed, found him to be neutral in the politics of the day.

Bage said Ahmed was reinstated, following the recommendations of the reconstituted Kingmakers’ Council of Pindiga Emirate, which got approval from six persons in the three ruling houses of the emirate: Shuaibu, Hassan and Yakubu.

Bage urged the emir to be responsible to everyone in the emirate and avoid revenge or discrimination because his enthronement was ordained by Allah.

“However, other signings which I can’t give details about will be actualised before the transfer window closes on July 3rd.”

As regards the club’s top scorer, Bishop Onyeudo, the Savannah Scorpions media manager said: “He told us he was going to Germany to sign a contract, after we initially heard he was in Enugu. We later then confirmed he’s with Sharks trying to negotiate a deal.”

    Gombe United declare Onyeudo wanted

    Cooreman furious with striker

The future of Gombe United’s forward Bishop Onyeudo with the Desert Scorpions is thrown into further doubt after the club declared him wanted for leaving the elite division side without permission.

Gombe United’s manager, Maurice Cooreman in a chat with SportingLife expressed his dismay at Onyeudo for seeking to break a season contract he had with the club over flimsy excuses.

He reckoned that the top marksman only told him he was travelling to the German Embassy for processing of his travel documents but he was surprised to hear from his manager that Onyeudo has made up his mind to dump the club.

Cooreman informed SportingLife that Onyeudo’s reason for seeking a new club is the inability of Gombe United to offset his signing-on fees and other allowances due to him since the beginning of the season.

But the Belgian disclosed that it would be difficult for the player or any other player of the club to unilaterally break the contract he signed with the club and that no player leaves his club without the consent of those in the club.

He implored Onyeudo to return to Gombe in the interest of peace and wait till the end of the season to move to another club.

Cooreman assured that the Gombe government is working assiduously round the clock to ensure that the players’ outstanding bills are settled within a short while.

“I want to bring it to your notice that Bishop has left Gombe without the express permission of Gombe United and we are not going to take it lightly with him at all. He told me he wanted to go to the German Embassy for discussions only to be told by his agent he went to Lagos.

“I was told he does not want to continue playing for Gombe United because he is owed Signing-on fees and match bonuses. It is not enough to break your contract because of that.

“The Gombe government has assured the money will be paid soon and so it is disheartening to hear he is seeking a new club. He can’t go to any club for now because he is still under contract with us and we are not ready to sell him for any price for now. He should in his own interest come back to Gombe before the club decides taking any punitive action against him,” he said.

SportingLife recently scooped and reported that the Imo born striker would leave the Desert Scorpions after his close source revealed the player’s angst at the inability of Gombe United to pay him for his brilliant performance for the club during the first stanza of the current campaign.

Onyeudo scored 8 goals to help Gombe United end the season in 9th position with 28 points from 19 games.

  • Gombe deliver goal feast

An outstanding performance by Cyril Obodo inspired Gombe United to a 9-1 thrashing of Bussdor United in their Federation Cup round of 62 tie on Wednesday.

The Savannah Scorpions made the trip to Abuja without leading scorer Bishop Onyeudo, but the winger scored four goals as they showed no mercy against the amateur side.

An elated Obodo told supersport.com he hoped the victory will give them a boost in confidence to go all the way in the competition.

“We have made the perfect start and I am very happy to have scored four goals in the match,” he said.

“Though we were confident of beating them, we were expecting a tough game. Nobody thought about scoring nine goals. I hope this win would spur us on to win the cup.

“We didn’t do too well (in the Federation Cup) last season, and we would like to make up for it this time. We have also shown we can score goals and win matches anywhere.”

Gombe United were eliminated in the Federation Cup last season in the group stages. They are 9th in the NPFL with 28 points from 19 matches.

  • Gombe Utd to sting Bussdor — Umar

Gombe Utd to sting Bussdor — Umar

2008 FA Cup runners-up, Gombe Utd say they will deploy all their arsenals against ‘giant-killers’, Bussdor FC in today’s round 64 clash in Abuja.

Tanimuu Umar, the Savannah Scorpions manager media said: “We are not taking them with kid gloves rather as Scorpions we intend to sting them as many times as possible with the view of making it to the next round.

“The coaches and players know what is at stake as they are bubbling with confidence as they intend to maintain the tempo following last Sunday’s resounding 4-1 victory against Akwa United in the last game of the Glo League’s first stanza.

“This am sure will boost the morale of the team as they will be in high spirit when they lock horns against the Imo State side.”

However, ““We’re wary of Bussdor’s threat so we intend to play them as if they are a topflight team.”

  • Gombe tackles leprosy outbreak

Gombe State Office of Tuberculosis and Leprosy (TBL) Control has begun the training of 20 workers to tackle new cases of leprosy in the state.

Dr Musa Mustapha, Head, TB and Leprosy Control in the state, broke the news in Gombe, the state capital.

He said the new cases were discovered among children in Akko, Kaltungo, Shongom and Yamaltu/Deba local government areas.

The doctor said the control unit was treating the patients, adding that all those in close contacts with them would be treated to curtail the spread.

He assured that the children would be cured in the next six months because they are paucibacillary cases, that is, cases that can be fully treated within six months.

Dr Mustapha said: “The good thing about these cases is early detection. Therefore, they can be treated promptly before they develop into Type II, which may lead to disability.”

The State Control Officer expressed optimism that the state will soon achieve the World Health Organisation (WHO) target of 0.13/100,000 prevalent rate, where the disease can no longer be a threat.

He added that the four cases, which were just detected, were signs of progress, compared to the previous year when 19 new cases were discovered about the same time.
