“Since his assumption of office, the Governor has embarked on swift and comprehensive reforms in the education sector with a special focus on improving access, retention, and positive learning outcomes. “In 2023, Governor Uba Sani announced a downward review of tuition fees across all state-owned tertiary institutions to increase access to education. The fee reductions range from 30% to 50% across institutions to mitigate the effect of the rising cost of living.

“Similarly, the state government has reduced the hitherto N65,000 fee regime in the Kaduna Capital School to N23,000 per academic term.

Gov Sani distributes 15,000 metric tonnes fertilizer to smallholder farmers

Governor Uba Sani, of Kaduna State on Monday, flagged off the distribution of 500 trucks of fertilizer (about 15,000 metric tonnes) to smallholder farmers across the 23 local government areas of the state.

The governor, who launched the programme at Murtala Square in Kaduna, stated that 240,000 bags of fertilizer would be distributed free to 120,000 smallholder farmers, with each farmer receiving two bags.

Sani emphasised that the initiative was part of the state government’s commitment to revitalizing the agricultural sector which immensely contributed to the state’s economy.

According to him, agriculture contributes 42.81% to the state’s Gross Domestic Product and employs 42% of the entire workforce.

The governor highlighted the state’s significant role in the nation’s agricultural landscape, ranking first in ginger production and contributing to maize, soybeans, tomato, sorghum, rice paddy, and cowpea production.

The governor also announced that the state government has allocated N22.54 billion to the agricultural sector in the 2024 budget, marking a significant increase from previous years.

He listed the state government’s achievements in enhancing food security, promoting rural livelihoods, and driving economic growth, including the Tallafin Noma initiative, solar-powered irrigation pumps, and the Africa Quality Assurance Centre (AQAC) project.

Sani, therefore, urged farmers to use the fertilizers responsibly and efficiently while expressing optimism that the measures would maximize harvests and strengthen food security in the state and nation.

The governor said: “I am extremely delighted to be here to flag – off the distribution of 500 trucks of fertilizer (about 15,000 metric tonnes) to farmers across Kaduna State. 240,000 bags will be distributed to 120,000 smallholder farmers for free. Today marks a significant milestone in our journey towards the revitalization of the agricultural sector and ensuring food security.

“This initiative clearly demonstrates our steadfast commitment to empowering our farmers and re-energizing our agricultural sector. Agriculture is not only the backbone of our state’s economy but also a vital contributor to our overall growth and development. According to our latest GDP report, agriculture contributes 42.81% to Kaduna State’s GDP and employs 42% of the total workforce.

“Our state is a significant player in Nigeria’s agricultural landscape, ranking first in the production of ginger, contributing 76.4% to the national output. We also lead in maize production, contributing 7.4% of the national yield, and we rank second in soybeans production, contributing 9.4%.

“In the 2024 Budget of Kaduna State, we allocated N22.54 billion to the agricultural sector. This allocation marks a significant increase from previous years and demonstrates our resolve to cultivate a vibrant agricultural ecosystem.

“As we distribute these fertilizers today, I urge all farmers to use them responsibly and efficiently. We are optimistic that these measures will maximize our harvests and strengthen the food security of Kaduna State and our nation.

“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all partners, stakeholders, and dedicated government officials who have contributed to these efforts. Together, we are building a prosperous and resilient agricultural sector that will benefit all citizens of Kaduna State.”

Earlier in his welcome address, the State Commissioner of Agriculture, Murtala Mohammed Dabo, had described the programme as a significant milestone in the state’s agricultural journey.

He praised the governor for his visionary leadership and support, which according to him, had made the achievement possible.

He also acknowledged the efforts of the State Ministry of Agriculture, the Kaduna State Agricultural Development Agency (KADA), and the Kaduna State Committee on Fertilizer Distribution for their roles in ensuring the success of the program.

The commissioner challenged farmers to use the fertilizer wisely while noting that the future of agriculture in the state depended on their dedication and hard work.

He pledged to continue working tirelessly to support farmers and ensure the growth of the agricultural sector in the state.

This was just as the commissioner highlighted the expected outcomes of the program, including a significant boost in crop production, enhanced food security, reduced poverty levels, and empowerment of farmers to maximize their productivity and improve their livelihoods.

“I wish to highlight a few expected outcomes from this flag-off. With the timely application of these fertilizers, we anticipate a significant boost in crop production, which will enhance food security and reduce poverty levels across in Kaduna state.

“This distribution will also empower our farmers to maximize their productivity and improve their livelihoods. And as yields increase, we expect to see a strengthening of the entire agricultural value chain, from farm to market, resulting in greater economic opportunities for our people,” the Commissioner added.

Kaduna protests sponsored by external forces, says Gov Sani

Kaduna Governor Uba Sani has attributed the protest hunger, which took a new dimension in Kaduna on Monday, to external influences.

After the vandalisation and looting that greeted the protest on Thursday, and the dispersal of the protesters by the security operatives, there was no protest in Kaduna on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

However, the protesters regrouped on Monday flying the Russian flag, as they continued on vandalization and looting of public and private property including a bank.

The development forced the State Government to impose a 24-hour curfew on the Kaduna and Zaria Metropolitan cities on Monday.

While assessing the security situation on Tuesday, Governor Sani expressed concern for the innocent residents affected, including those who could not earn a living or go to the market due to the curfew.

The Governor however attributed the protests to external influences, citing the involvement of children aged between 9-14 waving flags of another country.

He stated it was a deliberate attempt to create anarchy, taking advantage of the psychology of the children and the cultural closeness to neighbouring countries like Niger Republic.

Sani dismissed the notion that the protests were about bad governance or hunger, suggesting that initial genuine protesters were hijacked by sponsored elements exploiting uneducated and underage children.

He commended the security forces for their professional handling of the situation, allowing underage children to climb on police vehicles without resorting to force. “An investigation into the matter is ongoing,” he added.

The Governor said: “The sad aspect of what has happened is that a whole of innocent people are now at home. These are people who are suppose to come out and earn their own living.

“When you see, particularly when you children within the ages of nine, 10 and 14 now raising the flag of another country, you will agree with me that it’s well designed, sponsored by some elements who are calling for anarchy in their own country.

“They took advantage by using the psychology of those children knowing fully well that here in Northern Nigeria, our people are close to our neighbouring countries like Niger Republic, making them to believe that what happened in Niger Republic can happen in Nigeria; what happened in Burkina-faso can happen in Nigeria and what happened in Mali can happen in Nigeria.

“So, as far as I’m concern the protest has nothing to do with bad governance or hunger or anything. Those that came out a few days ago, were sponsored by some people who took advantage of the facts that most of children are not even educated and of course, they are under aged.

“I want to commend the security for managing the situation because if you noticed what happened, some of the children are even climbing the Amour Personnel Carrier van of the police which showed that the police are very understanding.

“They(police) acted professionally for them to even allowed the children because they realized that those children were underaged here in Kaduna. We are investigating the situation.”

Sani, accompanied by top government officials and heads of security agencies, assessed the damage caused by the protests.

The team visited the headquarters of Kaduna Investment Promotion Agency (KADIPA) and Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Agency (KASTLEA) looted by the protesters as well as the Bank vandalized on Monday at Tudun Wada, Kaduna South LGA.

They also toured the metropolis to monitor compliance with the curfew.

BREAKING: Gov Sani imposes 24hrs curfew in Kaduna, Zaria amid widespread looting

As protesters who had regrouped on Monday after three days of calm went on a looting spree, the Kaduna State Security Council has declared a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna and Zaria metropolitan cities.

The protesters had on Monday morning, marched on the major streets of Kaduna and Zaria, waving the Russian flag.

The protesters were dispersed at the popular NEPA Roundabout after they started looting public and private property.

They vandalized and looted property at the offices of AIT and Vision FM inside Nagwamatse House.

Announcing the 24hrs curfew in a statement Monday afternoon, Overseeing Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna State, Mr Samuel Aruwan said, the protest had been hijacked by criminal elements.

“In view of this unfortunate development, the Kaduna State Security Council has unanimously resolved to impose a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna and Zaria Metropolises and environs with immediate effect.

Gov Sani blasts protest leaders for hiding

The EndBadGovernance protest organisers have come under fire from Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for allegedly refusing to spearhead the demonstration against the Federal Government.

According to Uba, instead of leading the protests, they hid and let the impoverished young people take the lead.

The Governor, In an interview with BBC Hausa on Saturday, argued if the organisers were around they would have cautioned youths who took advantage of the situation to loot.

He said: ”We that came out and led the protest then, we were arrested. We never allowed the youths and other members of the public who participated in protests with us to be arrested. We were the ones that were arrested.

Protest: Don’t visit pains of inherited economic mess on Tinubu, Gov Sani appeals to Kaduna residents

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has urged the people of the state to abandon the planned nationwide protest over socio-economic hardships, stating that President Bola Tinubu is working tirelessly to address the economic issues inherited from previous administrations, and protests should not target him.

Speaking at a town hall meeting with Kaduna stakeholders on Monday, July 29, Governor Sani acknowledged that the implementation of some policies has been painful, but he emphasized that the pain is temporary and that protests are not the solution.

This was even as the governor went on memory lane to remind the people that Kaduna state cannot afford another round of bloodshed under the pretext of protest against policies of government after the year 2000 Sharia crisis, the 2011 post election violence, the 1987 and 1992 Zango Kataf communal clashes that led to massive killings and destruction of property.

According to the governor, “I have called this meeting to engage deeply with you and to urge you not to join the planned protest in the interest of our stability and progress.

“We acknowledge very sincerely that Nigerians are going through economic difficulties. We are grappling with severe economic strains occasioned by years of economic mismanagement, corruption and lack of accountability.

“President Tinubu has the unenviable task of cleaning up the mess left by previous administrations and resetting the economy for the good of our country and people. The President has come up with policies geared towards reinventing the economy and putting the country back on the path to sustainable growth and development.

“The implementation of some policies, we must admit, have been painful. The pains are however temporary. The terrible economic situation the country was plunged into required surgical operation.

“The president has demonstrated courage in carrying out his operation on the economy. We are making steady progress. We must support the President in his patriotic efforts at revitalizing the economy and putting smiles back on the faces of Nigerians.

“In Kaduna state, we have committed ourselves to rebuilding trust, making our state safe and secure, building/rehabilitating infrastructure, and bringing succour to the poor, vulnerable and underserved. Our pro-people and pro-poor policies have been impacting positively on our people.

“The federal and state governments have been unrelenting in addressing the nation’s developmental and security challenges. The nationwide mobilization for protests is therefore unnecessary, ill-timed and in bad taste. In times of economic emergency, all hands are expected to be on deck.

“Patriots support their leaders as they work to pull the economy out of the woods. It is not time for manipulation of fault lines and political differences in furtherance of personal or group interests. It is a time to think deeply on the possible consequences of our planned actions.

“Just as calls for protests are growing, with many drawing inspiration from the events in several African nations, we cannot ignore our unique context and then proceed to hurt ourselves. Let us narrow things down to our state. We are experienced residents of Kaduna. We have the evidence to guide us. We know the tensions, and we know the history. We know the antecedents of notable “protests” and where they left us in the past. Practically every notable upheaval we have experienced in this state in the last 25 years began as a “protest”.

“On Monday 21 February 2000, what began as a protest in Kaduna State, led to over 5000 deaths in about 48 hours. 8. Similarly, In 2011, what began as a free and open protest over presidential election results spilled over into an avalanche of bloodshed. The EndSARS protest of four years ago, is very fresh in our memories. This too, was wickedly hijacked, and twisted into a festival of looting and destruction, with loss of life and limb in many parts of Kaduna State.

“Going further back, the carnage that erupted in Kaduna in 1987 and 1992, began with people trying to come out to express themselves and to protest certain issues. “Recent history has given us enough evidence. We are aware that there are dark sections of our society that are too happy to seize on the honest disaffections of well-meaning Nigerians. These elements actually have no concern for good governance or improving the plight of citizens. They are driven purely by their own hate and selfishness, and they have no qualms whatsoever with messing up our collective reality.

“How then can we casually welcome what we know to be a trigger of violence, death and destruction in our midst? In our current context as a state, we are grappling with security challenges of banditry, insurgency and kidnapping. We are wide awake to the enduring effects of insecurity on socio-economic life of our citizens; threats to food security, education, healthcare delivery, threats to civic freedom and social cohesion, and especially the threat to our rural economy.

“We are confronted with the movement of small arms and light weapons between our sister frontline states affected by banditry, which gives momentum to the activities of bandits and insurgents. These arms are also waiting to be eagerly deployed by agents of destruction as soon as a protest goes astray. The reckless use of our freedom, to happily ignite what is obviously a sitting gunpowder keg is an ill-advised course of action at this point in our statehood.

“It is with pleasure and a deep sense of responsibility that I address you today. Since the inception of our administration, we have demonstrated total commitment to nurturing strategic engagements with our citizens. We are your servants and must at all times consult you on key governance and national issues. Your welfare and security are our topmost priorities.

“In the last few weeks, some faceless groups have been perfecting plans to stage nationwide protests under the guise of demanding for good governance. Their strategies and tactics gives cause for worry. People involved in genuine struggle or agitation cannot operate like cultists. There is definitely something sinister about their plans.

“As government, we are not leaving things to chance. In a bid to complement existing efforts towards cushioning any untoward impact of the proposed protest, I have since directed the Overseer of the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs to work closely with the heads of security agencies on a constant review of the security situation, and to report to me for prompt and relevant action.

“At this time, our peace and stability are fundamental. The current times demand deep introspection, sound reasoning, high sense of patriotism and sacrificing for the collective good. It is therefore imperative on us to tow the path of wisdom, and focus on the brighter future that is in sight. I implore you, our dear stakeholders, to hold our peace dear. Protect it, refuse to join in the planned mass action, and we will be the better for it”, Governor Sani said.

Stakeholders at the meeting, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, organized labour, students union leaders, traders unions, transport workers unions and the organised private sector leaders agreed with Governor Sani on the need to follow the path of dialogue in resolving the disputes between the government and the citizens.

Kaduna state governor, Uba Sani, has commissioned 150 Hilux Operational Vehicles and 500 motorcycles for distribution to all the security agencies present in the state to tackle security challenges occasioned by banditry, kidnapping, and others.

The governor stated that the safety and security of citizens remain paramount to his government and will do everything humanly possible to rid the state of every security challenge confronting its communities.

He noted that the commissioning and distribution of vehicles including motorcycles is not just about providing work tools but about demonstrating their continuous support to security forces, by empowering and showing that the government values their sacrifices and supporting them in their mission to protect and serve.

According to him, “We recognize the challenges confronting our security personnel, especially in terms of mobility and swiftly accessing remote areas. Improved mobility means that security operatives can respond faster and more efficiently to distress calls. It means that our security forces can more easily seize the initiative. It also means that citizens can feel safer because of the more visible security presence.

This will ensure funding support towards efforts to degrade bandits and terrorists in the state, with the productive engagement of the private sector. The Trust Fund will raise funds for the acquisition and deployment of even more security equipment, personnel, and materials as well as training.

In his remarks, the Chief of Defence Staff, (CDS), General Christopher Musa, said that the operational vehicles will not only facilitate their strategic mobility but will also serve as a testament to the enduring spirit of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The CDS while commending the efforts of the state Governor, Senator Sani said that the governor has made Kaduna a friendly state, where everybody is carried along without any form of discrimination, and thus had changed the atmosphere of the state.

“I would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the Kaduna State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Uba Sani, for the invaluable donation of these operational vehicles. This gesture of solidarity and support underscores the strong partnership between the armed forces and the government at both state and federal levels.

“The provision of these vehicles and motorcycles will undoubtedly bolster our operational readiness, enhance our mobility, and further strengthen our capacity to safeguard the security and sovereignty of our beloved country.

“As we commission these operational vehicles today, let us recommit ourselves to the noble cause of defending our nation with honour and integrity. Let us harness the capabilities of these vehicles to further enhance our operational effectiveness, protect our communities, and uphold the values of loyalty, courage, and unity that define our armed forces. Gov Sani begins distribution of farm inputs, equipment to 40,000 farmers in Kaduna

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, on Monday, May 27, flagged off the distribution of farm inputs, farm implements, and agro-processing equipment to 40,000 smallholder farmers under his ‘A Koma Gona’, Back to Farm initiative.

The flag-off ceremony, which is part of the programmes lined up for the celebration of his one year in office, took place in the Ikara local government area, targeting the beneficiaries in the Northern Senatorial zone of the state.

Governor Sani, who noted that Kaduna is the largest producer of ginger, maize, as well as tomatoes in Nigeria, lamented that farmers suffer post-harvest losses, especially in perishable produce like tomatoes.

He therefore vowed that his administration will revisit the aborted plan to establish a tomato processing plant in Ikara, to address the losses suffered by tomato farmers in Ikara and surrounding local governments.

Addressing the farming community at the event, Governor Sani who expressed delight to be with the farmers said: “Agriculture remains the backbone of our economy, providing employment and sustaining livelihoods. Kaduna State is blessed with huge agricultural potential.

“Consequently, our administration has come up with programmes and policies to further boost the sector and attract the needed investment for its growth and development. We are taking steps to address key challenges in the sector to restore the glory of farming and the joy of rural living.

“Smallholder farmers and small-scale agro-processors have been facing difficulties due to the current economic challenges in the country. This category of farmers is very critical in our quest to ensure food security.

“It is for this reason that our administration has come up with an innovative program “Tallafin Noma – A Koma Noma” as part of our “Sustainable Livelihoods through Social Interventions and Economic Empowerment” initiative. Under this “A Koma Gona” (Get Back to Farm) component, the Ministry of Agriculture is mandated to target a minimum of 40,000 smallholder farmers and farmers’ cooperatives across the 23 LGAs.

“The Tallafin Noma programme includes the distribution of inputs for crop and livestock production. For crop production, improved Maize Seed, Agrochemicals, NPK, and Urea Fertilizers are distributed.

“Meanwhile, for livestock production (poultry), 30-day-old chicks (broilers) with 4 bags of feeds and drugs are distributed, while 50 jumbo juveniles (catfish) with 2 bags of feeds and drugs are distributed for fisheries.

“To boost micro-mechanization of the agriculture sector in the state, power tillers with all the necessary equipment and accessories are distributed to farmer cooperative groups. This is a crucial step towards increasing production and productivity in our farms.

“Knapsack Sprayers with Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) are also shared with individuals for agrochemical and liquid fertilizer application in their farms. For the agro-processors, vegetable grinders are distributed to individuals, while hammer mills, haulers, and threshers are distributed to cooperative groups as group assets.

“These processing machines will add value to our agricultural produce and improve the livelihoods of individuals and groups involved in agro-processing activities.”

The governor therefore called on the benefiting smallholder farmers and small-scale agro-processors to make effective use of the equipment and inputs, saying that the efforts were parts of the administration’s commitment to revitalizing the agricultural sector.

Kaduna state governor, Uba Sani, has commissioned newly constructed and furnished two blocks of 24 classrooms at Basic Education Primary School, Rafin Guza, which is the second most populated primary school in Kaduna state.

The school has a pupil population of 7,326, and it is only second to Basic Education Primary School, Lokoja Road, Rigasa in the Igabi local government area of the State.

Commissioning the two-storey blocks of classrooms as part of activities lined up for his one year in office, Governor Sani who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe said, his administration has within the last 12 months built 2,326 new classrooms, accommodating 93,040 pupils.

In a related development, Governor Sani represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Sani Liman Kila also commissioned a two-storey block of 12 classrooms at Basic Education School, Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government area.

The governor noted that the foundation of a prosperous society is laid in the classrooms, hence his administration’s commitment to ensuring that, every child in Kaduna State has access to a conducive learning environment.

He said: “This administration has placed a high priority on revamping dilapidated classrooms and up-skilling our teachers to foster better human capital outcomes for our state. We are acutely aware of the transformative power of education. It has elevated the statuses and economic privileges of countless individuals and continues to be a beacon of hope and progress for even marginalized people and communities.

“For us in Kaduna State, education has ceased to be the privilege of a select few, it is the right of every child in the state.
