  • Ishaya Bako’s ‘4th republic’ premieres April 12

    4th republic, the highly anticipated political thriller is scheduled to hit the cinemas across the nation from 12 April, 2019.

    The movie, which stars Kate Henshaw as ‘Confluence state’ governorship candidate named Mabel King, follows a hotly contested gubernatorial election and one woman’s quest to take back the seat she believes she rightfully wins against all odds.

    Directed by the prolific director of Road to Yesterday and The Royal Hibiscus Hotel, Ishaya Bako said that 4th Republic explores the dynamics of politics in Nigeria today.

    “There are a multitude of factors at play; the violence that mars our polls, the new trend of fighting for justice at the tribunals and the roles we as a society assign to women who aspire to powerful positions,” he said.

    A glimpse from the makers of the movie briefed that after the gruesome murder of a campaign manager Sikiru (Jide Attah), gubernatorial aspirant, Mabel King (Henshaw) challenges the victory of the incumbent, Idris Sani (Sani Mu’azu) for her mandate.

    While governor Sani’s associate, St. James (Bimbo Manuel) and Ike’s Law School rival, Danladi (Yakubu Mohammed) attempt to subvert the course of justice by eliminating witnesses, King is supported by her loyal aide Ike (Eyinna Nwigwe), and Sikiru’s daughter Bukky (Linda Ejiofor).

    4th republic features Nollywood best, Bimbo Manuel, Sani Muazu, Eyinna Nwigwe, Linda Ejiofor, and Yakubu Mohammed among others.

    It is co-produced by Griot Studios Ltd. and Amateur Heads Productions with Bem Pever, Ishaya Bako, Kemi ‘Lala’ Akindoju and Ummi A. Yakubu serving as Producers.

    The film is funded by grants from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA).

    4th Republic is set for release in cinemas across Nigeria from April 12th 2019.

     It will be distributed by Film One Distribution.

  • Breaking: Tambuwal wins Sokoto governorship election

    The Governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) Aminu Tambuwal has scored the highest votes of the Sokoto State governorship election.

    The incumbent governor of Sokoto leads with a slim margin of 342 votes.

    Tambuwal polled 512,002, from both the March 9 governorship election and March 23 supplementary election, while his main challenger, Ahmad Aliyu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) came close with 511,661, losing with 341votes.

  • Atunwa congratulates Kwara gov-elect Abdulrazaq

    Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the Saturday’s poll, Hon. Razak Atunwa has hailed the winner of the election, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

    Atunwa, in a statement also thanked God for His blessings as well PDP’s leadership and supporters who stood by him during the just concluded elections in the state.

    He added: “I would like to thank the PDP leadership and all our supporters who stood by me in the just concluded elections.

    “Your commitment and dedication is heart-warming. You all gave your best. We are all winners in the process of democracy.

  • Tank farms brought us woes, claim Satellite Town residents

    RESIDENTS of Satellite Town in Lagos yesterday, at a town hall meeting, tabled their wishlist before All Progressives Congress  (APC) governorship candidate Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who is seeking their vote in the March 9 election.

    Sanwo-Olu promised them a better life, if elected.

    The residents, among others,  called for :  assistance on environmental issues; clearing of drainages blocked by tank farms blocked drainages.

    Oriade Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mrs. Ramota Eniola, who represented Sanwo-Olu, at the meeting, said the environmental problems  would soon be addressed.

    “We have been on this environmental issue for some time. We are going to solve the problem. We will present the issue to the next governor. We will work together to ensure things get done. The problems the residents are experiencing will be solved,” she said Satellite Town Forum Chairman Michael Imitini  said the meeting was to let Sanwo-Olu know that the area had been neglected for years.

    “We are Nigerians and we are supposed to be taken care of. We want the local government, the current governor, Akinwumi Ambode and Sanwo-Olu to know that this area has been neglected since 1999.

    “The issue of tank farm is one of our major problems, although it is being addressed gradually. Satellite Town is a residential area, but the government has established tank farms here. They want to bring in container terminal, which will also add to the problem we are facing. Our roads are  flooded whenever it rains  because of the poor drainage. The presence of trucks poses fire outbreak. The trucks also cause traffic jam.

    “We want the government to assist us by putting in place infrastructure such as good roads, drainage and electricity.”

     

     

  • Lagos SSG Bello canvasses support for Sanwo-Olu

    The Secretary to the Lagos State Government (SSG), Mr Tunji Bello, has urged the electorate to turn out massively and vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

    “With the voting power at your disposal, you must ensure that not only does the Lagos APC flagbearer win but with a spectacular landslide as a clear message to opposition parties that they are absolutely unwanted,” he said.

    Bello spoke at the turbaning and merit award celebration at the Art and Culture Auditorium of Yaba College of Technology by the League of Imams and Alfas, Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

    The SSG said Sanwo-Olu has the sterling qualities and competence to lift Lagos to hitherto unattained heights of excellence in every facet of endeavour.

    He urged the electorate in Mainland and Yaba LCDA, in particular, to vote massively for Moshood Olanrewaju Oshun, the party’s candidate representing Mainland Constituency II in the House of Assembly.

    Bello also urged voters to ensure massive votes for Ajani Monsuru Alao, the APC flagbearer for Mainland Constituency I, and Raheem Jide Jimoh, representing the Lagos Mainland in the House of Representatives and Senator Oluremi Tinubu representing Lagos Central Senatorial District.

    Leading those turbaned were Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Gomina Anabi of Our Time; his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu (Best Senator of The Year); Moshood Olanrewaju Oshun (Baba Adini of Abule-Oja); Alhaji Ibrahim Olanrewaju Alao Megida (Sanmori Adinni Yaba); Raheem Jide Jimoh (Aare Musulumi Yaba); Dr. Abdul Wasiu Olasunwon (Arowosadini Yaba).

    The Chairman of Yaba LCDA, Kayode Adejare Omiyale, was turbaned Best Chairman and Great Achiever of Our Time and his wife, Mrs Kemi Omiyale, was Best Chairperson of Our Time.

    The Chairman of the Council of Imam and Ustaz, Mainland and Lagos Division, Imam S. A. Lawal, as well as the Chief Imam Abule Oja and Chairman, League of Imams and Alfas, Yaba LCDA, Imam Zubayr Sasere, urged political leaders and the electorate to always exhibit the fear of Allah in their endeavours.

    Also, Sanwo-Olu has said he would not run an administration that would use and dump people.

    The APC candidate spoke in Lagos when he was conferred with a chieftaincy title, Utuenikang (the Shining Light) of Akwa-Cross.

    His wife, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, got Obong Awan (Mother of All) title from the Association of Akwa-Cross Indigenes Nigeria.

    Also honoured was Sanwo-Olu’s running mate, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, as the Ata-Ufan (Real Friend) of the association.

    The event, tagged: Our Culture, Our Heritage, was held at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.

    It was the bi-annual event for celebrating and showcasing the rich culture of Akwa Ibom and Cross Rivers states.

    Sanwo-Olu said: “As long as you are a law-abiding citizen of Lagos State, our government will work for you.”

  • Kwara APC, governorship candidate preach peace, unity

    The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its 2019 governorship candidate, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, yesterday urged party members to be more united than before.

    Speaking at a summit organised by the party’s Stakeholders’ Forum in Ilorin, the state capital, APC State Chairman Bashir Bolarinwa urged those who lost the party’s primaries to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship.

    The theme of the summit was: Imperative of Unity and Loyalty Towards Good Governance in Kwara State.

    Bolarinwa said: “I want to assure all who participated and lost at the primaries that the party is looking into their case. I am sure they are not going to be left out in the scheme of things.”

    The chairman hailed the stakeholders for organising the programme, saying: “The essence of today’s programme is to actually bring all together as members of one political family. I, therefore, urge all to work for the victory of APC in the state and Nigeria by extension in the 2019 general elections.

    “We are here today for a thing of job. Today, we are saying goodbye to all forms of differences in our party. Our governorship candidate belongs to all of us. Let me add that even though he has emerged as our governorship candidate, he cannot be more powerful and bigger than the party.”

    Abdulraszaq enjoined APC members to embrace unity and togetherness.

    He said: “We must avoid anything that stands as a threat to our unity as a party. We can only achieve our aim of bringing about good governance to our people if we put heads together, speak in one voice and chart a common course.

    “It is common knowledge that a house divided against itself cannot stand. I hereby commend the disposition of my fellow aspirants for ensuring that we achieve proper reconciliation of our relative differences.

    “Needless to say, there can be no better time to address the issue of unity and party loyalty than a time like this. The first lap of our electioneering has been concluded and the stage is now set for a robust and engaging election campaign. As we are all aware, things will fall apart when the centre cannot hold.

    “We must do our best to abide by the provisions of our party’s constitution and shun all acts which are anti-party in nature and threat to our collective progress.”

    “I express my profound gratitude to members and leadership of our great party at the state and national levels for the support towards my emergence as the flag bearer of our party and for the maturity and cohesion of all stakeholders after the post-primary activities that had ensured the unity and oneness of our great party.”

  • Abia may adopt consensus to select governorship candidate

    All Progressives Congress Governorship aspirant in Abia state, Prince Paul Ikonne has said that stakeholders of the party in the state are discussing the possibility of picking a consensus candidate for the 2019 governorship election, saying such an option will guarantee the party easy victory in the coming general election.

    Ikonne said however that in line with the decision of the party, All aspirants and stakeholders in the state will soon meet to agree on a common candidate, pointing out that agreeing on a consensus candidate will strengthen the party in Abia state

    Speaking after obtaining his nomination form, Ikonne said he was confidence of emerging the consensus candidate adding that if given the opportunity as the candidate of APC, he will make Abia conducive for business “knowing that the people of the state are business oriented and take the state to a high.”

    Prince Ikonne explained that the people of Abia know that he actually won election in 2011, assuring that his government “will put Abia where it belongs”, adding that “as long as our party come together with a consensus candidate which we will eventually go for, we will come out strongly.

    “Those trying to destabilize the party one way or the other cave in by God’s grace and key into this course for us to rescue and take Abia to a greater height.”

    On the adoption of indirect primaries, he said; “It depends on the peculiarities of states and the environment. The party national leadership are very wise, but there are peculiarities, like in Abia, indirect primaries and consensus will definitely give us what we want.

    “Stakeholders are yet to meet, we are still going to meet, and by the time we meet, we will come out with a blue print of the way forward.”

    On what he is bringing to the table if given the opportunity to fly the party’s ticket, Ikonne said he is coming in with a fresh idea, adding that he would add value to governance and ensure better life for the people of the state.

    “By God’s grace, I’m the founding father of APC in Abia, as the governorship candidate of the ACN then which was the major merging party of the APC. I have been in the party and I have worked for it and still working for it.

    “During the 2015 general elections, I organised the presidential rally in Abia which was successfully and adjudged the best rally and am coming from Aba, the Eyinba city and by God’s grace age is on my side, and I have served in government and I have good understanding of the way Government functions and I have blueprint on what to do to move Abia forward and above all, I have the grace of God more than any other aspirant.”

  • Osun APC to pick governorship candidate by direct primary

    The State Working Committee (SWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has recommended the direct primary model for its governorship aspirants.

    In a resolution at its meeting at the weekend in Osogbo, the state capital, the party’s SWC, led by its chairman, Prince Gboyega Famodun, recommended that the direct primary be adopted for the nomination of its candidate in the September 22 election, as provided for in Section 87 of the Electoral Act (2010), as amended.

    The party resolved that its decision was predicated on the grounds that:

    • a direct primary election will give every party member the opportunity to be involved in the nomination, as against the indirect primary.
    • a direct primary will signify popular participation by ensuring the largest participation of party members across the state.
    • a direct primary system promotes democracy, reduces the intimidation of delegates, bribery and other electoral malfeasance. It promotes popular participation and prevents monetisation of the process and intimidation.
    • the direct primary system will also address the fear of imposition of any person as candidate of the party, being alleged in some quarters.
    • Osun APC has been using direct primaries for all its internal electoral activities since 2014. For instance, the governorship primaries of 2014 and the recent local government election in January 2018. This has enhanced popular participation of members at the primary and the subsequent general elections.
    • a direct primary helps to mobilising members and popularising the party in the state.

    The APC urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to approve direct primary for Osun State primary election for the nomination of its candidate for the September 22 governorship election.

     

  • Ekiti ADP Primary: Adewale emerges Governorship candidate

    The National Committee Chairman for the Primary Election of the Action Democratic Party, (ADP) in Ekiti State, Mr Umaru Yakubu, yesterday declared Mr .Segun Adewale as the governorship candidate of the party for the July 14 election in the state.

    Yakubu, who is also the National Vice Chairman of the party, North West Zone, conducted the party’s primary in Ado Ekiti.

    Secretary to the electoral committee, Mrs Adenike Jones, who announced the results of the election held throughout the 177 wards in the state, declared Otunba Segun Adewale as the candidate of the party.

    The National Youth Leader of the party, Prince Edobo Ogboza, urged the youths and women to support the party and its flag bearer.

    He assured the party supporters of better times ahead, adding that the candidate, when he finally wins the governorship election would provide more job opportunities for the youths and empower the women of the state.

    He said that the party would ensure that the youths and women in the state are not sidelined.

    Adewale, who is the only aspirant of the party, in his acceptance speech, thanked the party members for their support and turnout from the 16 local government areas of the state.

    He tasked the party members to win more members into the party, for the party to have good outing during the July 14 governorship election.

  • Governorship candidate emerges

    The KOWA party in Osun State has picked Prof. Oluseyi Fabiyi of the Kampala International University as its candidate for the September 22 governorship election.

    He emerged unopposed at the primary election held in Osogbo, after the postponement of the congress due to alleged discrepancies on the list of aspirants.

    The primaries, which produced Fabiyi, were conducted by the National Organising Secretary, Mr. Igwe Chukwud, on behalf of the National Working Committee. It was observed by the leadership of the Inter Party Adversary Committee (IPAC).

    Members, including the former presidential candidate, Prof. Remi Sonaiya, hailed the process which produced Prof. Fabiyi.

    The National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kunle Lawal, said a new date would be announced for the congress, adding that the present executives under Mr. Akinyemi Akinwumi would remain in office in an acting capacity.

    In his acceptance speech titled: “A Great Journey Begins Today”, Fabiyi enumerated his tripod agenda tagged: TEA, which focused on Technology Innovation for Industrial Development, Entrepreneurial Empowerment and Agricultural Modernisation.
