Head Coach of the Super Falcons, Edwin Okon has showered encomiums on his employers, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for hiring a psychologist for the team so that they will focus on the tactical aspect of the game and not play the dual role of a tactician and a psychologist.

“The hiring of a psychologist for the team is a welcome development because I personally requested for it. We need somebody to handle that so that I can face my job of coaching the team squarely. We need somebody of that class that will be able to psyche the players up every time we have matches.

“With the presence of the psychologist now, the job will be a little bit easier for me and the rest of the technical crew,” Okon disclosed.

The psychologist Kasia Muoto whose father hails from Anambra and mother is a Polish has also vowed to bring her wealth of experience to bear in the team and to improve it too.

“My role here is to support the Head Coach on the psychological aspect and mental readiness and alertness as you know coaching is not just static. You can see the new energy in the team as a result of the new changes. The team needs that most especially after playing Mali the pressure have gone up as regards how the team is going to handle Mali, how will they handle the pressure because the pressure is up. Also depending on what happened during the game, how will they respond so that we can still beat Mali and move forward. The same thing goes with the pressure with the World Cup,” Muoto said.

    Siasia hails Akpeyi

Former Super Eagles manager, Samson Siasia has rated highest the side’s goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi against Bafana Bafana of South Africa in Sunday’s friendly tie at the Mbombela Stadium, Nelspruit.

Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw with the side’s captain, Ahmed Musa scoring the opener in the 85th minute while a defensive blunder allowed South Africa a stoppage time equaliser from forward, Bongani Zungu.

The Warri Wolves shot stopper had earlier masterfully stopped a penalty that would have given the South Africans the lead in a largely lackluster encounter.

Siasia said Akpeyi stood out for him in the encounter and would have ended the clash as winners but for the momentary loss of concentration from the back men.

“The goalkeeper was the best player on match day against South Africa but his defence let him down at the crucial moment.

“Akpeyi deserved a victory in the clash to compensate his five-star performance in the game.

“It’s unfortunate they allowed what would’ve been a deserved victory to slip off their hands at the most inauspicious time.

“I congratulate the captain on match day, Ahmed Musa, for the wonderful opening goal against South Africa.

“Musa at times plays as if he wasn’t there, a bit listless and anonymous but he remains a good player.

“His solo goal effort was wonderful on his special day as the captain of the side,” said Siasia to supersport.com.

Sunday’s score draw in Nelspruit adds up the statistics of seven wins, four draws and a loss in favour of the Nigerians.
