Kane injured as Musiala salvages draw in Der Klassiker

Harry Kane limped off as his Bayern Munich side came from behind to draw 1-1 away at Borussia Dortmund.

Jamie Gittens’ superb solo effort in the first half looked to condemn Vincent Kompany’s side to their first Bundesliga defeat of the season, only for Jamal Musiala to equalise with five minutes left.

What had been a quiet first half in ‘Der Klassiker’ soon sparked into life when Nico Schlotterbeck’s pass down the left found Gittens on the halfway line.

The England Under-21 international turned past Bayern right-back Konrad Laimer and drove into the penalty area before his fizzed left-footed strike was too hard for Bayern’s Manuel Neuer to stop.

In the 27th minute, Gittens became the second Englishman to score in this fixture after Kane, who netted a hat-trick against Dortmund last season.

  • Kane to extend England career beyond 2026 World Cup

Kane to extend England career beyond 2026 World Cup

England captain Harry Kane says he is performing at his highest ever level as he dismissed suggestions the 2026 World Cup should be his international swansong.

Thomas Tuchel will take over as England manager in January with his first matches not until World Cup qualifiers start in March’s international break.

Interim boss Lee Carsley guided the Three Lions to promotion from the second tier of the Nations League with five wins from his six games in charge.

That included a 3-0 win away at Greece last week, where Carsley took dropped Kane to the bench.

The 31-year-old striker admitted he had been shocked by that call, but scored in Sunday’s 5-0 thrashing of the Republic of Ireland on his return to the starting line-up.

At of Euro 2024 last summer, Kane often looked laboured and was substituted in all four knockout games as England reached the final.

But the Bayern Munich striker has scored 20 times for club and country in 21 appearances this season.

“I think there’s a perception when you get to your thirties that you’re coming to an end but for me I’m performing at the highest level I’ve ever performed and feel as good as I’ve ever felt,” Kane told the Press Association. “I don’t like to look too far ahead and in my career I never have, the World Cup is going to be exciting.

“In America it will be an incredible occasion and ultimately it’s about trying to win that, looking at where you are, where to improve and it will be no different in a couple of years.”

Kane was speaking at the unveiling of a statue of him at the home of his former youth team Ridgeway Rovers in east London.

Already England’s all-time record goal scorer with 69 goals in 102 games, Kane could easily also surpass Peter Shilton’s record of 125 caps.

But he believes he must help end his nation’s wait for a major tournament victory since 1966 to emulate World Cup winning captain Bobby Moore and be honoured with a statue at Wembley.

Kane previously worked with Tuchel at Bayern and is positive about the impact the German can make when he becomes the third foreign manager to take charge of England.

“I think we need to win a major tournament,” he added. “We’ve come close on a couple of occasions and the next step is for me and the other boys to win.

“We have a new coach coming in March. He’ll be great for us, he has vast experience in the big competitions, he’ll bring a great energy to the team and he’ll put his own stamp and identity on the way we play tactically.”

Harry Kane surpasses Wayne Rooney as top English scorer in UCL

Harry Kane has overtaken Wayne Rooney to become the highest-scoring English player in Champions League history after a stunning four-goal performance for Bayern Munich in their 9-2 demolition of Dinamo Zagreb.

Rooney previously held the record with 30 goals during his time at Manchester United but Kane’s haul brought his total to 33.

He netted in the 19th, 53rd, 73rd, and 78th minutes, propelling Bayern to a commanding victory.

The match also set another milestone, as Bayern Munich became the first club to score nine goals in a single Champions League game.

Reflecting on his achievement, Kane said: “To be mentioned alongside Wayne Rooney is an honor. He’s one of the greatest English footballers, so to break his record is special. It’s a great accomplishment.”

Kane’s four-goal outing followed a hat-trick in Bayern’s previous Bundesliga match against Holstein Kiel. Under Vincent Kompany’s leadership, Bayern remains unbeaten in the league, sitting comfortably at the top of the table.

Up next for Bayern is an away fixture against Werder Bremen, followed by a crucial Bundesliga showdown at home against Bayer Leverkusen.

  • Applause for Harry Kane’s record-breaking start at Bayern

Applause for Harry Kane’s record-breaking start at Bayern

Harry Kane has enjoyed a sensational start to his Bayern Munich career and is already racking up records, goals and assists. A look at the England captain’s impact on the record German champions since his summer move from Tottenham Hotspur.

DID you really have to wonder whether Kane would settle in well at Bayern? His arrival was greeted joyously by Bayern fans who saw in him the long-awaited like-for-like replacement for Robert Lewandowski. They weren’t wrong.

But it wasn’t the welcome the fans gave Kane that ensured he would settle, rather the welcome he gave to those at the club.

“Of course I’d shake hands with people I meet here,” Kane said after spending much of his first days at the club greeting the 300 employees based at the Säbener Strasse training base. “That’s just my personality. We’re all part of the same team – and all deserve the same respect. That will never change in my life.”

The ‘Servus’ – the typical Bavarian ‘Hi’ – he gave the media at his unveiling also displayed the character of the 30-year-old; given that, along with the quality he has already shown over the last decade, the fact he has hit the ground running (and scoring) will raise no eyebrows.

You do wonder what Kane must have thought though as he watched from the bench for much of the 3-0 defeat to RB Leipzig in the Supercup, barely hours after putting pen to paper on his Bayern contract.

“I feel sorry for Harry,” said coach Thomas Tuchel. “He’s going to think we’ve not trained for a month.” The former Mainz, Borussia Dortmund, PSG and Chelsea coach added: “Against Werder Bremen [on Matchday 1], he’s going to start from the very first minute.”

Tuchel was as good as his word, and Kane doesn’t seem to have held his disaster debut against his new teammates. After Matchday 5, the 26 minutes he featured against Leipzig and the 90 he played in the Matchday 3 defeat of Borussia Mönchengladbach are the only ones where he has finished goalless.

“We have exactly the player we need, with the personality of the way he plays, in Harry Kane,” Tuchel said recently. “We try to get him more involved in our game and this is going to be an absolute success story. We have the perfect striker for us and we are more than happy with him.” Hardly surprising, Kane’s hat-trick in the 7-0 win against Bochum on Matchday 5 made it seven goals in five Bundesliga appearances.

  • Kane nets hat-trick as England romp past Bulgaria

England’s serene progress towards Euro 2020 continued as skipper Harry Kane grabbed a hat-trick in a 4-0 demolition of Bulgaria in Group A at Wembley on Saturday.

Kane opened the scoring after 24 minutes and struck home two penalties after the break as well as providing the assist for Raheem Sterling to get on the scoresheet.

Gareth Southgate’s side have now scored 14 goals in their opening three Group A games and lead the table with nine points while Kosovo who earlier beat the Czech Republic 2-1, have eight points.

England host Kosovo for the first time on Tuesday when another victory will leave them looking virtually assured of reaching next year’s tournament that culminates on home soil.

It was not a perfect display by England with Bulgaria having three good chances, one when the score was 0-0.
However, England proved far too strong as they left the visitors languishing at the bottom of the group with two points from five games.

Kane’s second hat-trick for England, following the one he scored against Panama at last year’s World Cup finals, took his tally to 25 goals in 40 appearances.

Eight of of the goals were from the penalty spot.

England captain and Tottenham Hotspur star, Harry Kane, is now a married man.

  • Tottenham suffer first loss at new stadium against West Ham

West Ham have delivered a blow to Tottenham’s top four hopes, as Michail Antonio’s second half strike gave them a 1-0 victory, the first goal scored by a visiting team at the new stadium.

This was the fifth match in all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino’s men at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and they had won the previous four without conceding a goal, but that run was ended after 67 minutes in the London derby in superb fashion.

Marko Arnautovic found Antonio with a fantastic ball over the top of the Spurs defence and the Englishman controlled the ball with his chest before firing past Hugo Lloris.

Tottenham, who are still without injury top goal-scorer Harry Kane, started the match with Son Heung-Min in attack as Fernando Llorente was on the bench — while defender Jan Vertonghen was a surprise absentee.

The first 45 minutes saw few chances with West Ham’s Felipe Anderson producing an impressive, surging run before shooting tamely straight at Lloris. Tottenham saw more of the ball but West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski did not have a save to make in the opening half.

Son had a penalty shout turned down early in the second half, while Christian Eriksen hit a free-kick from a good area straight into the wall before Antonio opened the scoring.

Tottenham came close to equalising with the last kick of the game when substitute Vincent Janssen saw a header cleared off the line, but West Ham held on to secure a huge victory.

Pochettino was dismayed by the result but urged his side to pick themselves up quickly for Tuesday’s game.

“I think the first half was good for us, second half they were better,” he told a news conference. “They had more energy.

“We conceded a lot of space to run… We lost a lot of ball we gave them the possibility to make the game.

“I’m disappointed; it’s a setback. We wanted the three points, we wanted to arrive at the Champions League game in a good way but it was not (to be) but now we need to move on. It’s about the recovery and get ready for Tuesday to play.”

The defeat may not be too damaging for Spurs, as they remain three points clear of fourth-place Chelsea, who face sixth-place Manchester United on Sunday. West Ham, meanwhile, remain 11th.

  • Spurs: No timeframe on Kane’s ‘significant injury’

Tottenham Hotspur’s England striker Harry Kane suffered serious ankle ligament damage in Tuesday’s 1-0 Champions League victory over Manchester City, the Premier League club said on Thursday.

Kane rolled his left ankle in the second half of the quarterfinal first leg after a hefty tackle on City defender Fabian Delph and left the field immediately.

Spurs gave no timeframe for when Kane might be fit again.

“Following assessment over the past two days, we can confirm that Harry Kane has sustained a significant lateral ligament injury to his left ankle following a challenge in our Champions League quarterfinal, first leg win against Manchester City,” Spurs said on their website.

Harry Kane exited Tuesday’s match after injuring his ankle. “Investigations are ongoing and he will continue to be assessed by our medical staff over the coming week.”

Kane tweeted on Wednesday that he was “gutted to go off injured but every setback is a chance to come back stronger than ever.”

Following Tuesday’s win, Spurs boss Maurio Pochettino said: “It’s very, very sad. It’s going to be tough and we’re going to miss him — maybe for the rest of the season.”

The England captain, who has scored 24 goals in all competitions this season, left the club’s new stadium on crutches with a protective boot on his foot. Kane had previously missed six weeks of action after injuring the same ankle during a Jan. 15 Premier League match against Manchester United.

The club also confirmed that Dele Alli fractured his left hand during Tuesday’s fixture.

The England midfielder will be assessed to determine his availability for this weekend’s match against Huddersfield Town.

  • EPL: Kane, Lloris rescue point for Tottenham

Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed a 90th minute penalty kick as a scrappy north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur ended in a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Hugo Lloris got down low to keep out the substitute’s poor kick and rescue a below par Tottenham who had equalised in the 74th minute through Harry Kane’s penalty kick.

Arsenal, bidding to close the gap to their arch-rivals to one point, had taken the lead in the 16th minute when Aaron Ramsey broke clear after a mistake by Davinson Sanchez.

Kane had a first-half header ruled out for offside, but Tottenham struggled to create chances as a third English Premier League defeat in succession for the first time since 2012 loomed.

Alexandre Lacazette had wasted a good chance to make it 2-0 to Arsenal, but it was the man who replaced him, Aubameyang, who cost his side victory.

The Gabonese hit a poorly-struck penalty kick after Sanchez was adjudged to have fouled him.

A niggly game ended with Arsenal’s other substitute Lucas Torreira being red-carded for a high tackle on Danny Rose.
