  • Badejo, Archbishop Asare,  Harrysong, others grace TFHC’s pastor’s burial

A former General Overseer of the Foursquare Church, Reverend (Dr.) Wilson Badejo; wife of the General Overseer of Perez Chapel, Ghana, Reverend (Mrs.) Vivian Agyin-Asare; Archbishop (Dr.) Bassey Inyang; including Nigerian music star, Harrison Tare Okiki (Harrysong), were among the personalities that converged inside the church auditorium of The Father’s House Church, Akute, Ogun State, yesterday for the funeral service of the wife of the General Overseer of Manifest Ministries International, Pastor (Mrs.) Rita Ejeata Udoh, a.k.a Mama Ree, who transited to glory on Friday August 10, 2018.

In his sermon at the funeral, Badejo advised Nigerians and indeed, Christians, to seek medical assistance if they have a need for it, urging them to desist from thinking that as a believer, there is no need for orthodox medicine intervention when health issues arise.

“There is a place for divine healing and also medical intervention in a man’s life; if your faith cannot support divine healing, please seek medical attention; God is not against it,” he counseled.

Drawing his sermon from 1 Thessalonians 4: 13-18, Badejo said death is an enigma and as such, there is no explanation for it. He remarked that the passing unto glory of Udoh should serve as reminder to Christians that it is not yet over until we see Jesus Christ. This, he further explained, is because there is an assurance of life after death because the grave is not the end for a believer.

Besides, the Cleric said, the death of Christ is victory for believers because He arose on the third day, giving us hope that on the resurrection day, we will be together again with those that have gone ahead before us in Christ.

“Rita has gone ahead of us; she has done great exploits in God’s ministry; she has fought and won the good fight of faith, now she has gone to meet her Lord to receive her crown of glory. This should be the ultimate target of every believer while alive. To each of you here, the hour is nearer than before, so make hay while the sun shines. Mama Ree was a General in the army of God who we have come to lay to rest. May God give us many more of Rita (Mama Ree) in His ministry,” Badejo prayed.

While encouraging the bereaved husband and General Overseer of The Father’s House Church, Reverend (Dr.) Richard Udoh, his family and the Church of God, Badejo said: “I know how much you and your wife are close; you have been so blended together.

  • ‘That One Friend’ matters in life says, Harrysong, MC Shakara Others

It’s a popular belief, especially among Africans that friendships should be based on mutual love and respect, as well as desire to see the other person do well in life.

That theme was made manifest at the recently held media launch of 33 Export Lager’s event City of Friends where a number of Nigeria celebrities revealed certain milestones they achieved courtesy of one friend that helped them get there.

Alterplate Records owner and performing artiste Harrysong recently disclosed who the one friend he has is. The 37 year old musician (whose real name is Harrison Tare Okiri) chose his childhood friend, Design with whom he grew up in the streets of Warri, Delta State.

Harrysong was speaking at the launch event of 33’s City of Friends in Lagos. Harrysong was one of the A-list entertainers that came to kick things off.

“Design is my childhood friend and we’ve been together…we always come through for each other”, he said.

Friendship has always been a core of Harrysong’s artistry, having had a long professional and personal relationship with KCee for many years, a quality that not many entertainers have.

Whilst comedian Bash declared that he had a lot of friends, he pointed out a particular one by the name of  “Shakur” whom he revealed to be the driving force behind his tertiary education. “He was the friend that took me to The Polytechnic Ibadan- my first tertiary institution, and then paid for my school fees’.

On his part, Mavin disc jockey DJ Big N identified his label exec Don Jazzy and Dr Sid (who is also signed to Mavin Records) as his two closest friends. He credits Dr Sid for bringing him to the record label in the first place where his talent was given a platform to shine. He also mentioned Don Jazzy was revealed to be the individual who helped him get a car. “Don Jazzy literally gave me half of the money for my car!”

Another inspiring story was MC Shakara who retold the story of renting his first apartment and the support he got from his friend Emeka Smith. “It was a one-room apartment but nevertheless it was still a house. We saved up together to raise the funds. It took a long time to complete it but eventually we did… that’s a friend!

The City of Friends is an initiative of 33” Export Lager Beer as part of the activities marking the International Friendship Day. The campaign was set up to connect and share value among friends; which is a core characteristic of 33 Export Lager.

The City of Friends parties in Calabar will hold July 28th – 29th (at Municipal Gardens) and August 3rd – 4th in Lagos (Eagles’ Club, Surulere) and will feature the musical performances by 9ice, Harrysong, Simi, Kizz Daniel and Alabi Pasuma amongst other fan favourites.  Veteran comedian Gordons is also billed to perform alongside Nigeria’s top DJ’s who will be providing the tunes to keep fans on their feet

  • Harrysong, MI, others champion zero maltreatment for widows

Some Nigerian artistes led by Felix King of the 90s music group, Fellyx & Mozzyx, have urged the United Nations (UN) to declare June 23 Zero Maltreatment Day for widows.

They made the call last Saturday at Moremi Hall, University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos State, against the backdrop of culture-backed inhuman practices widows are known to suffer in this part of the world.

King, who is the founder of the Felix King Foundation, was joined by pop star Harrison Tare Okiri, aka Harrysong, rapper MI Abaga, internet sensation, Charles Okocha aka Igwe Tupac and comedian Bayegun Oluwatoyin, popularly known as Woli Arole.

The event also witnessed the simultaneous flag-off of the ‘Widows Rights Movement’ campaign by the Felix King Foundation in Nigeria, Ghana, the US, Canada and the UK.

King described the movement as an international campaign for the abolishment of widows’ maltreatment, while advocating for a UN declaration of June 23 as a ‘Zero Maltreatment Day’ for widows in countries with traditional societies where women suffer human rights violations, with membership spread across the world.

“The ultimate goal of the day is to develop resources and policy to empower widows and allow them to have access to education, work, healthcare and lives free of violence and abuse, while enables them to create a life for themselves and their children following the death of their husband and ending a cycle of poverty and abuse,” he said.

Also speaking, Harrysong who performed at the event said widows’ maltreatment in Nigeria and Africa at large should be outlawed.

Igwe Tupac also lent his voice to the campaign, condemning the practice which he describes as ‘unnecessary’.

Aside performances from Harrysong, Wole Arole, Igwe Tupac and MI, some University of Lagos undergraduates performed a drama to demonstrate the ills of widows’ maltreatment in the country.

Ororo Pattaya directed a short 60 second film with voiceover by M.I Abaga which had been aired in both Nigeria and international media.

  • Reviewing D’Banj’s ‘It’s Not A Lie’

    Reviewing D’Banj’s ‘It’s Not A Lie’

    • ft. Wande Coal and Harrysong [New Song]

Why many people see the new single by Eja Nla as a grand entry to silence his numerous critics; D’Banj’s musical prowess might be dwindling or be on a rocket down decline. His opening verse almost cost the Afrocentric percussion of this song and the lovely hook of Harry Songs, the reggae blues crooner.

It’s Not A Lie could have well been interpreted as an endorsement song, or a beg for endorsement. With Harry songs continual hook of “Everybody Google DBanj,” you might want to check his network whether his cash flow has begun to depreciate slowly.

If I were the Producer, I would cut D’Banj’s opening verse out of the song and beg him to sing only the chorus like DJ Spinall ft Eazi on “Ohema” or DJ Khaled and co. on “I’m the one.”

I feel D’Banj’s self-acclaimed nickname as an entertainer should be passed on to Harry songs. Baba should go and retire.

Great vocals but if not for the earlier comments saying the song is worth listening to while surfing the net, I wouldn’t have listened beyond the first few seconds. Harry is a song saver, Wande tried but I agree that Harry killed it…softly.

Take this as an aside, Wande Coal’s cool punch line further amplifies the fear that D’Banj’s reason for singing this song may just be for the fund and a comeback to lost form.

“They say the money burn, but na we burn am o!”

The money might just be imagery for dwindling networths, hopefully, they have been able to raise investors with this song!

The future of Nigerian music is actually in shambles. Not saying there isn’t good music flowing around but there is more obscenity served, as well as heavy bragging, and overt commercialization of the feminine body parts.

I will rate “It’s Not A Lie” a 6/10. It could have done better if D’Banj wasn’t there, or if he sang the chorus with his harmonica. It could have gotten an 8. Since the beat is Afrocentric danceable pop; it wins the spot on my playlist for this week.

Till then, D’Banj should work on his vocals and plan a bigger comeback to Nigeria’s entertainment scene.

AWARD-WINNING singer and songwriter, Harrison Tare Okiri, popularly called Harrysong, has publicly apologised to fellow singer, Kcee, his record label, Five Star Music and fans.

  • Harrysong is Gala ambassador

UAC Foods Limited has signed a brand ambassadorship deal for its flagship brand – Gala – with the 5 Star Music group.

As part of the deal, Harrysong will be the new face of the brand while two other musicians under the record label of KCEE and Skiibii are expected to promote the brand.

At a briefing on Wednesday at the company head office in Lagos, the General Manager-Marketing, UAC Foods Limited, Mrs. Joan Ihekwaba, explained that the signing on of the new brand ambassador was another way through which the company intends to engender a more robust brand affinity with the target consumers and to further reaffirm the leadership positioning of Gala in the market.

Ihekwaba also noted that the deal was in line with the ‘Doing Good’ mantra of the UACN group.  ’’As a brand from a socially responsible corporate organisation, the ‘Naija Snack’ has chosen this endorsement deal as an opportunity to support the music industry, by promoting authentic Nigerian artistes. The numerous fans of Gala should gear up for exciting times as we go into  the year,’’ she said.

She said for over 50 years, the brand Gala has come to occupy a special place in the hearts of the Nigerians, by supporting them on their journey to success.

On the rationale for choosing the brand ambassador, Ihekwaba said Harrysong and the 5 Star Music Group represent the vibrant, entrepreneurial and indomitable spirit of Nigeria and Nigerians.

Ihekwaba noted that the brand ambassadors, especially Harrysong, portray the Gala character, speak the language of the brand’s target audience.

She said communication channels to be explored include radio (with jingles), television (with music videos), online communication (with consumer engagement via social media platforms), as well as outdoor and print media

In his response, Harrysong said he was excited to be the face of the brand.
