  • Hat-trick hero Kehinde Fatai dedicates goals to twin brother

Nigeria striker Kehinde Fatai has  said his memorable treble for Romanian club Astra Giurgiu in a UEFA Europa League qualifying match are dedicated to his twin brother, Taye.

Fatai fired hat-trick in a 3-0 win over Liberec in a third round qualifying clash on Thursday night.

He told AfricanFootball.com: “I am so happy that I scored a hat-trick, and we won 3-0. It was a great moment for me.

“I have scored six goals in three games now, I thank God.

“I dedicate all the goals to my twin brother, Taye. He is always around me and encourages me.”

The former JUTH FC striker opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a superb strike, when he picked the ball from the left wing, dribbled past several defenders before he fired the shot into the corner of the net.

He hit a brace in the 74th minute after he won ball from defenders and he completed his hat-trick in the 81st minute when he tapped in from a rebound.

Nigeria striker Kehinde Fatai continued his red-hot form with a hat-trick for Romanian club Astra Giurgiu in a Europa League qualifying match against Slovan Liberec of Czech Republic on Thursday.

He doubled his club’s lead on 74 minutes, before he completed his superb hat-trick in the 81st minute.

Ex-JUTH FC star Fatai is back in Romania after a loan spell at Club Brugge of Belgium.

  • Ogbeche’s hat-trick inspires Cambuur Rout

    Ogbeche’s hat-trick inspires Cambuur Rout

Bartholomew Ogbeche continued his excellent pre-season form, with the Nigerian striker recording a hat-trick in Cambuur’s 8-0 whipping of FVC on Saturday.

This was a thrashing to send shock waves up and down the division.

Although Cambuur mustered a performance brimming with all the panache that typified the latter weeks of their nine-nil success at ONB, they still benefited from FVC’s fragility.

FVC’s defence was by-passed in the opening exchanges especially because of the home side’s reluctance to switch their tactical approach even as the game was veering away by the break.

Ogbeche, 29, now boasts of seven goals in the last two pre-season matches, with this arguably his finest since joining the club.

The player, who scored just twice last season following his move from Xerez in 2013, will be hoping for a positive start to the 2014/15 Dutch Eredivisie which begins on 8th August, 2014.

  • Shuaibu nets hat-trick

    Shuaibu nets hat-trick

Ibrahim Shuaibu became Giwa FC’s hero yesterday when he scored three goals in his side’s 4-0 bashing of Kaduna United in the Week 15 Glo Premier League tie at the Rwang Pam Stadium.

All the goals were scored in the first half of the encounter.

Shuaibu, whose three strikes on Sunday entered the record books as the club’s first hat-trick since its establishment, got the first goal in the 17th minute before Charles Okoro netted the second goal in the 35th minute after Nnoke Daniel’s neat work from the flank.

Shuaibu scored the third goal in the 73rd minute of the second half after being put through by Amos Danladi Gyang before getting his hat-trick via a penalty kick in the 40th minute to complete the rout. The penalty was awarded after Nnoke Daniel was brought down in the 18-yard box.

In a chat with SportingLife after the match, the club’s Marketing Director, Sammy Adesoji, heaped praises on the players, officials and their supporters.

“First and foremost, we have to give glory to God. It was a great victory for us. We have to understand that our players have played many games in the past weeks, more than any club in the league. But, despite the fatigue, the players still made the club proud today (Sunday),” Adesoji told SportingLife.

“We have to thank our club chairman, Ambassador Chris Giwa for his motivation of the players. He visited them at the camp on Saturday to encourage them for the match. Again, our supporters deserve commendation; they came out to the stadium en masse to cheer our team despite what happened in the state. It was a good result and we will cherish it for a long time.”

  • Adeleye’s hat-trick sinks Jigawa Stars

    Adeleye’s hat-trick sinks Jigawa Stars

Niger Tornadoes free-scoring striker Samson Adeleye achieved his first hat-trick of the season in the side’s 4-0 pounding of visiting Jigawa Golden Stars in the Nigeria National League (NNL) Division A match day 15 tie on Saturday at the Bako Kontagora Memorial Stadium, Minna.

Tornadoes, who dominated the game from the blast of the whistle, got their opening goal in the 34th minute when Adeleye jumped over the defenders to connect a free kick before slamming it into the opponents’ net.

As pressure continued to mount on the visitors, the Tornadoes top scorer with eight goals in the league was brought down in the box of Jigawa Golden Stars and the centre referee, Achimi David wasted no time to point the at penalty spot.

Adeleye, who unarguably was the man of the match, confidently took the kick in the 40th minute to displace Jigawa’s goalkeeper Emma James for his second goal of the day. Jigawa Stars were forced to make an early substitution in the first half, yet their attack could not break down the Minna landlords’ backline as the first half ended 2-0 in favour of Tornadoes.

Tornadoes resumed the second half in the same no-nonsense mood as was the case in the first. Striker Yahaya Yusuf scored the third goal in the 46th minute with assistance from match day hero, Adeleye.

Yusuf, who will be getting married on May 25 to his sweetheart, dedicated the goal to his coming marriage.

Adeleye completed his hat-trick in the 59th minute as he drove home a powerful shot to send the spectators into a frenzy.

Tornadoes coach, Hamza Abdulazeez, said  the victory was well deserved, assuring that the best is yet to come for his wards.

“We played perfectly well and convincingly deserved the three points and four unanswered goals. We’re not yet there as we intend to intensify the fight to ensure we grab one of the promotion tickets to the Premier League.

“I must praise the players for their discipline and adherence to the game plan. We’ve shifted our attention to the NNL Division A rescheduled match day 14 clash at FRSC in Keffi. We’ll be  in very high spirits, aiming to secure a decent result from the clash,” said Abdulazeez.

  • Ike Uche excited with hat-trick

    Ike Uche excited with hat-trick

Nigerian striker, Ikechukwu Uche has taken the time to reflect on his hat-trick that helped Villarreal thrash Rayo Vallecano 5-2 at Vallecas Teresa Rivero on match day 18 of the Primera División.

The forward netted the first, fourth and fifth goals of the encounter on Monday as the Yellow Submarine surged up to sixth on the standings.

Speaking to club’s official website, www.villarrealcf.es , the striker said his heroics on Monday night would not have been achieved if he did not receive the support of his teammates.

“I’ll take the great work of (my teammates) who have left everything on the field (on Monday) so I could score three goals.

I am happy not only for the goals, but because we have started the year with a win and the truth is that I hope we can continue like this,” he said.

Monday’s milestone meant that Uche became the third Villarreal player to score a hat-trick in the Primera División after Diego Forlan and Juan Roman Riquelme.

He is also the first Nigerian player to score a hat-trick in Spain’s top flight since his elder brother, Kalu, performed the trick, also against Rayo, on March 11, 2012.

The enormity of the accomplishment was not lost on the 30-year-old who promptly dedicated the goals to his teammates.

“It’s my first hat-trick and that is why I want to dedicate to the team. The work being done by the team is outstanding.

This team fights for victory in every game and we are where we are. It’s all the result of (hard) work,” he said.

Uche’s solid display against Rayo means he’s likely to be one of the first names on Marcelino’s team sheet when Villarreal arrives at Estadio Municipal de Anoeta to face Real Soceidad in the Copa del Rey on Thursday.

The Nigerian concluded by discussing today’s game, predicting that it will be a tough encounter.

“It’s not going to be an easy game because we know the quality (that Real Soceidad possesses), but you have to play well to get a good result and see what happens in the second leg,” he said.

Uche has now scored nine league goals this season.

    • Says Nigeria will shock Tunisia in 2nd leg

Falconets’ Chief Coach, Peter Dedevbo has given SportingLife his reasons for benching hat-trick star, Uchechi Sunday, in the first half of the team’s 4-0 drubbing of Tunisia on Saturday.

The game, a second round of qualifying series for Canada 2014 FIFA Under 20 Female World Cup, did not produce any goal until Uchechi was introduced.

Uchechi, who replaced a hard-working Yetunde Adeboyejo in the 46th minute of the game, still helped herself to a hat-trick.

“I always like keeping my best players on the bench before bringing them in. That is my style,” he said.

Speaking about his team’s general performance in the match, Dedevbo stated his displeasure about how they played, especially in the first half.

“I really don’t know what went wrong with the girls. We had told them what to expect with the Tunisians because we had watched their matches and knew how they would play. But they could not get their acts together on time.”

“I must be honest with you, my team did not play well, especially in the first half. I am really disappointed but we will correct our mistakes before the second leg.

“I am confident of defending this result in Tunisia. There is no way Tunisia will score and my team won’t score in the second leg. We will scale through in Tunisia”, he assured.

  • Etebor scores 1st NPFL hat-trick

    Etebor scores 1st NPFL hat-trick

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) recorded its first hat-trick of the season as Oghenekaro Etebor fired three goals past El-Kanemi for Warri Wolves to claim their first three points after it mauled the Warriors from Maiduguri 4-1 on match day 7.

SportingLife gathered that Wolves showed no mercy on their prey as within a minute and 48 seconds, Etebor found the net to put the Solomon Ogbeide-led side up by a goal.

It was if the players had adhered to Ogbeide’s warning after his clear-the-air meeting with Amaju Pinnick over the abysmal form of the team since the kick-off of the season as nearly into the first quarter of the game, Wolves scored their second goal via Etebor.

With Wolves taking full control of the game, Joseph Osadiya then got his name on the goals scorers’ sheet as the Warri City team went three goals up within 22 minutes of play, leaving the visitors to resort to another game plan.

As the clock ticked into the half hour mark, Etebor completed his hat-trick in the 34th minute to put the game beyound the reach of the relegation-threatened El-Kanemi who later pulled one back. This was however too little too late as the game ended 4-1.
