  • #BBNaija: What does Big Brother Naija add to us?

The Reality TV Show, Big Brother Naija started on 28th January, 2018, with twenty housemates going into the house in South Africa, to compete for the prize. The winner is to get prizes worth 45 million naira (25 million naira cash, a brand new SUV Jeep, and other prizes).

Twenty housemates are in the house competing this season. The show is to end in April.

Viewers vote for their favourite housemates to keep them in the house, as the one with the least vote gets evicted from the show.

There have however been a lot of criticisms to the show. Critics believe that the show encourages sexual immorality. An example is what has been trending online between two housemates, Teddy A and Bambam, having sex in the toilet.  Another example is Miracle, who has engaged in similar acts with female housemate, Nina.

Housemates have constantly engaged in fights and disagreements, amongst themselves, so far in the show. Cee-C is one person that comes to mind in this regard. She has had issues with housemates like Lolu, her former partner, Ifu-Enada, Alex, and even her former strategic partner, Tobi. As youths, we begin to wonder what this show teaches us. Are we supposed to learn how to fight one another from the show?

Last Sunday, Leo and Ifu-Enada were evicted as a pair, causing Alex, who really liked Leo to cry uncontrollably. This was the fourth pair leaving the house.

The remaining housemates are playing as individuals, and will be evicted individually from this Sunday.

BBNaija: Anto teaches twerking as housemates praise Nigerian artistes

With an impromptu play of hot Nigerian hip hop on Monday morning, the garden of the Big Brother House came alive with dancing as Anto twerked to the delight of fellow housemates.

The dance session which lasted about an hour was started by dreadlocked Teddy A and Bam Bam who were lounging in the garden when the music started playing. They were later joined by Tobi and Cee-C and they started encouraging and teaching each other dance moves.

Alex, one of the notorious dancers in the house happened to be on her monthly ‘period’, and as such could not join the dance. Bam Bam blurted out; ‘I miss Alex, she’s on her period.’

Looking forward to an exciting dance session at the forthcoming weekend party, Bitto said, ‘This Saturday go different ooo.’

And Teddy A countered back, ‘make dem give us better dj wey go dey jam back to back.’

Anto and Bitto also joined in the impromptu dance session as they entered the garden.

As Anto started twerking, Teddy A bursted out in wonderment; ‘She’s giving you Yankee twerk,” he said, directing his comment to the other two ladies present.

‘Not that one you go dey do like this, cultural dance.’

They however, continued with oohs and aahs as Anto twerked.

Obviously, interested in learning twerking, both Bam Bam and Cee-C asked Anto to teach them more.

As different Nigerian songs segued into each other, Teddy A and the others praised Nigerian artistes.

Later, when the housemates started picking stones from their beans, Teddy A, being set in the mood, asked loudly; “Big Brother, give us music now.”

BBNaija: Meet the three housemates who made the first ‘imprint’

The game began in earnest for the 20 contestants who entered the Big Brother House on Sunday, and hitting the ground running was Tobi Bakre, a University of Lagos graduate, who became the first Head of House (HOH).

The next three months is that of a life full of expectations for the 20 contestants who, apart from the total package of N45million (N25million prize money, an SUV among other juicy offerings) will get the rare attention of the world.

Tobi appears to be having this first attention as winner of the tasks given to the contestants by ‘Biggie’. The HOH challenge was split into two; the first part was carried out on Sunday after the launch while the second part took on Monday.  After the fake eviction of the six housemates who could not get bed spaces, ‘Biggie’ announced the first task which involved padlocks.

The coordination skills of the housemates was put to test in the second task, with the mission of building a balloon tower in just 15 minutes. Tobi emerged as the winner, having built the tallest balloon tower of all.

As part of the treats for the title, ‘Biggie’ also invited `Kabiyesi’ Tobi to choose a housemate to share the lottery bedroom with. Cee-C volunteered to share in Tobi’s luxury.

Just as many though the first romance experience would start with this two, Miracle and Nina were the surprise, as the shared the first kiss in Big Brother Naija 2018 House.

They were seen sharing a passionate kiss in the shower, just before the camera could pan away.

Thus, Tobi, Miracle and Nina made the first imprint on this year’s BBNaija.

The much anticipated show kicked off on Sunday with 20 contestants – 10 males and 10 females – who made their first appearance during the opening live show in Johannesburg, South Africa, where they shared the spotlight with show host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu who prodded them on what they will be offering fans in the next three months.

The crowd of Nigerians in the studio, added pep to the night of expectations, as fans were eager to know which celebrity was among the contestants. Nonetheless, the 20, appeared all savvy and ready for the challenges ahead.

The third in the series, this year’s show parades names like Vandora from Edo State; Nina, 23 years old from Owerri, Imo State; Teddy A; and K Brule.

The first instruction from Ebuka was for each housemate to pick a number from the glass bowl. “Look for a bed that matches the number picked and wait for further information, “he said. Hence, the first set of four housemates who are reality show newbies walked into the house together.

After a short interval, the second set of four – Alex 22 years old; Dee-One who said he is in a serious relationship and portrayed some comic traits; Princess,  25 years old; Miracle who is ‘single and available’ – took their turn on stage.

Next was the third set of four. They include Bambam from Ogun State; Ahneeka; Rico Swavey and Bitto.

Ahneeka is ‘going to look for love in the house.’ She says love comes in different ways, and she is just ready to explore. Bambam wants to do everything possible to win, Rico is single and is from Jos, while Bitto who is wearing his mum’s wedding band says it helps him to stay focused.

The ceremony was spiced with music performances by Mayorkun and Kiss Daniel.

The fourth set of four who were introduced as young entrepreneurs include Khloe, a fashion designer; Ifu- Ennada who is looking for drama and madness; Angel, a male with an unusual name and Leo, who says he wants to build low cost housing for his people.

When Mayorkun returned, his hit song, ‘Che che’ made great interval, just as Kiss Daniel’s ‘Yeba’ got many dancing in the live studio, as he closed the show.

The last set of four includes Anto, Cee-C, Lolu, and Tobi.

Although a game of gradual elimination, it is not clear yet how many more housemates will join the show in the twists that are bound to follow.

Tagged ‘Double Wahala’, housemates are expected to showcase enviable personalities as proudly-Nigerian brands.

The three-month period of unscripted drama is being broadcast live to 45 countries from Nigeria through East, West and Southern Africa on DStv’s channel 198 and GOtv’s channel 29.

Nigeria’s online retail store, PayPorte has returned to the show as headline sponsors for the second time.

  • …Of the remaining housemates

    T-Boss

WITH 18 nominations for eviction, Tokunbo Idowu, aka T-Boss seems to be the housemate other housemates want to be out fast. And on Wednesday, she was tested and failed to recite the Nigerian national anthem when her newly-found friend, Debie-Rise, asked her to do so. Perhaps the sassiest of the female housemates with tattoos and piercings in her nose and her breasts (she exposed them twice on the show), T-Boss favours the ‘fast’ life and even once mentioned that she could blow the N25m prize money in a week. While she is far from being he live wire, she has been referred to as ‘manipulative’ by some housemates and even viewers while some viewers have tagged her ‘White Witch.’ But the ‘demonisation’ is not stopping her fans. While the state government did not make any categorical statement about supporting her, one of her strongest supporters from the state, Hon Omosede Igbinedion, a member, House of Representative, campaigns for TBoss on her social media handle with the words ‘Support Made in Edo, Support T-Boss.’ She also has the support of celebrities like Uti Nwachukwu, Beverly Osu and Linda Ikeji to boost her chances. Will it be enough?

    Efe

ALL based on logistics, the 23-year old Economics graduate is the youngest and the only male remaining in Big Bother Naija house. So far, his fans have mobilised for him and he might easily emerge winner going by previous trends where he dusted others to remain in the house whenever he was nominated for eviction. Known for his love for speaking Pidgin English, Efe has also been loved by fellow housemates such as Bally and Uriel. ‘He is real,’ evicted housemate Uriel says about him. Hence, his revelation on Wednesday, in a Truth or Dare game which didn’t involve alcohol, that he had sex with two sisters might just be a plus for those who consider that as ‘being real.’ But more importantly, his state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has said the state is solidly behind him for making the state proud.

Also, comedian I Go Die, donated N1million naira to support Efe, who he says is ‘Warri’ and ‘Warri no dey carry last’. The money is expected to be used by Efe’s supporters for recharge cards and data bundle to enable continuous voting. This bold move of putting his money where his mouth is may just give Efe the final push needed. Other celebrities supporting an Efe victory are Olamide, Basketmouth, Ali Baba, AY, Ice Prince, Seyi Law with his daughter Tiwa and KCee. Comments like ‘Based on logistics, Efe must win’ and the promise of recharge cards for TeamEfe voters to ensure Efe clinches the prize money is trending on social media. The hash tag #TeamEfe and #EfeNation is still trending

    Bisola

SAY Bisola is an actor and you’ll be dead right. For the London-born actress, it’s a bit difficult to know when she’s not acting as every contestant knows that the Big Brother Naija is a 247 set. She was quickly immersed in a romance with Thin Tall  Tony. However, after a couple of weeks, Bisola, who hails from Ogun State and has a seven-year old daughter, switched attention and affection to Bally, evoking some jealousy in TTT. Perhaps this spark in Bally came when both of them were cooped in ‘Paradise,’ when other housemates thought they had been evicted only to be returned to the house. Her mother is from Bayelsa State and support for her there is strong that even a hug billboard was erected in her support. The Mamuzee Twins are campaigning for her as well some Nollywood players like Alexx Ekubo who on Wednesday, went on Instagram to write on why fans should vote Bisola. “Each time you’re about to say thats enough, just remember that your 1 vote might be all Bisola needs to win,” he wrote.

    Marvis

SLIM, spectacle-wearing Marvis can rightly be described as Efe’s beau in the house. The duo even participated in mock marriage, sparing no detail to the ceremony. While she hasn’t been spectacular in the house, earlier in the week, the Rivers State government during the week launched a campaign to vote for 26-year old Marvis who is from Eleme. An official government circular directed fans and indigenes of the state to vote for her circulated on social media during the week. This might just give her an edge. Will it be enough?

    Debie-Rise

GUITAR-PLAYING Kogi girl must have entered the Big Brother House to win like any other person, acting and putting up their best performance. While many succeeded most of the times, they had their vulnerable moments. For Debie-Rise, that vulnerability could have been in her emotional attachment, specifically, ‘falling’ in love with fellow housemate, Bassey Ekpeyong. Seeming to find comfort in Bassey, Debbie-Rise warmed up dearly to him. And when he was evicted a fortnight ago, Debie-Rise sobbed. And by the last eviction, as if finding comfort in the cherished memories spent with Bassey, she took to strumming her guitar and singing a birthday song for Bassey. Bassey meanwhile, has wished that Debie-Rise wins the ultimate prize. But the Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, is going beyond wishes, as he said the state government intends to stand by Debie-Rise and concerted efforts are being made to give her the much needed support. She also has support of some celebrities including Funke Akindele of Jenifa fame.
