    Housewife seeks dissolution of one-year-old marriage

    A housewife, Mas’uda Ado, approached an Upper Area Court in Kubwa, Abuja seeking the dissolution of her one-year-old marriage to her husband, Nasir Abubakar, for the lack of love.

    Ado told the court that she got married to Abubakar, according to Islamic laws in January, last year and had a daughter and that she did not love her husband anymore and begged for the dissolution of her marriage.

    The respondent, however, told the court to give him some time to settle with his wife, adding that he was still in love with her.

    “I have other wives but the plaintiff is very special to me,” he said. The Judge, Mohammed Wakili, however, adjourned the matter until August 26 for a report of settlement.

    Housewife remanded for allegedly pouring hot tomatoes on husband

    A housewife, Nnebuihe Dandison  has been remanded in Kirikiri female prison, Lagos by an Apapa Magistrate Court for allegedly causing grevious harm to her husband, Onyelowe Dandison.

    Nnebuihe, 41, will remain in custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service pending fulfillment of her bail condition.

    The court had fixed bail at N500,000, one surety who must be a relation and show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State government for three years.

    Nnebuihe was arraigned before the court on a two-count charge by the Police.

      According to the charge number  B/19/2024, Mrs Nnebuihe Dandison was alleged to have on March 13, 2024 at about  2100hes at Festac Town in the Lagos, attempted “to commit felony to wit grevious harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 240{a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

     Count two stated: “That you Nnebuihe Dandison “F’  on the 13th March 2024 at about 2100hrs at 6 Avenue Festac Town in the Lagos Magisterial District did grieyously harm one Onyelowe Dandison by pouring him hot tomatoes and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 245 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

     The matter has been adjourned till April 8, 2024 for hearing.

  • Housewife accused of stabbing worker

    A 32-year-old housewife, Ruth Emehelu, was yesterday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stabbing a 15-year-old domestic worker with a knife.

    The police charged Emehelu with assault.

    Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ezekiel Ayorinde said the defendant committed the offence in January at her home.

    He alleged that the defendant assaulted the girl, who was kept in her custody, with a knife, for returning home late from an errand.

    The prosecutor alleged that the defendant beat up the girl and injured her with a knife.

    Magistrate B.O. Osunsanmi granted her N50, 000 bail with one surety in the like sum.

    She said the surety must be employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

    The case continues on April 1.

  • Housewife allegedly kills husband

    Amina Dauda, a housewife accused of killing her husband, Mohammed Matazu, a former reporter with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Kaduna, by burning him, will know her fate on May 30.

    Dauda, 28, was arraigned before Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf, on May 22, 2013, on three counts bordering on culpable homicide, punishable with death.

    Justice Baba-Yusuf fixed the date after adoption of written addresses by Mr. Abubakar Musa, prosecuting counsel and defendant counsel Mr. Charles Yoila.

    Musa had urged the court to go ahead and convict the defendant, saying the five witnesses brought by the prosecution produced evidence that pointed at the defendant committing the offence.

    “The act of fighting, which the defendant engaged in that led to the commission of the offence, was unlawful” he said.

    Responding, Yoila urged the court to discharge the defendant of the allegation against her.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the prosecutor alleged that Dauda sprayed Matazu with petrol in their home at Gwarinpa, Abuja, on February 7, 2013.

    NAN reports that on April 8, 2014 during trial, a prosecution witness, Usman Idoko, told the court that the late journalist was taken to three hospitals before he died from injuries sustained from the fire set to him by his wife.

    Idoko said the deceased, also a legislative aide to Sen. Mohammed Ibrahim (PDP-Kaduna), was taken to the hospitals by neighbours, who were on the crime scene.

  • Housewife seeks help from Fayemi’s wife

    A woman, Mrs. Yemi Akomolede, who alleged yesterday that she was brutalised by her husband, has implored Ekiti State governor’s wife Erelu Bisi Fayemi to rescue her.

    She said she had suffered battering by her husband, Mr. Peter Akomolede.

    Mrs. Akomolede begged Mrs. Fayemi to intervene, as she had confidence in her as an advocate for traumatised women.

    The victim was brought to the office of the governor’s wife with blood stained clothes and a swollen face.

    She alleged that her husband beat her to a state of coma following the misunderstanding that ensued between them over their children’s education and upkeep.

    The mother of three is on admission at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti.

  • Housewife kills stepdaughter with otapiapia

    A 20-year-old woman, Zulac Kabiru, has confessed to killing her eight-month-old stepdaughter, Rukaiya, to teach her co-wife how to respect “her superior” by giving her local insecticide, otapiapia, to drink.

    Zulac, who was arrested by the police in Niger State for alleged killing at Danauta village in Mariga Local Government Area, said she took the action because the second wife was always insulting and assaulting her.

    The suspect was said to have secretly given the baby the poison, which resulted in her death.

    It was gathered that the suspect and her fellow wife had not been in good terms for a long time.

    Addressed reporters when she was paraded, Zulac said: “I warned my husband to desist from getting another wife but he did not listen. The second wife loved insulting and assaulting me at all times. One day, I decided to poison her eight-month-old daughter to increase her sorrow in the family so that she will learn how to respect her superiors in the family.

    “Before my husband married her, and I kicked against it, we were living in peace. But when she came, she split the family. My husband gave her more attention than he gave me. Snd since then, our family has been in shambles.”

    The suspect said she did not know when she carried out the act.

    According to her, it was the work of the devil.

    “It was the work of the devil. I don’t know when I did it. It is a wicked act,” she said.

    Police spokesman Muhammad Abubakar, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said the suspect would be arraigned in court after investigation.

  • Housewife ‘pours hot water’ on rival

    A housewife, Grace Azagba, 51, was yesterday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly pouring hot water on her husband’s other wife, Marina.

    Grace, who lives in Abule Egba, Lagos, was arraigned alongside her 14-year old son before Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi on a two-count charge of conspiracy and causing grievous bodily harm.

    The defendant pleaded not guilty.

    Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ezekiel Ayorinde said the defendants committed the offences on May 15, at their residence.

    Ayorinde said Marina had been having it rough with the defendant and her children after she got married to their husband two years ago.

    He said efforts by their husband to reconcile them and ensure peace in the home failed.

    According to him, on the day of the incident, an argument had ensured between the parties as usual and in the process, the accused carried hot water from the fire and poured it on Marina.

    The hot water, he said, caused her grievous bodily harm.

    The prosecutor said the matter was reported to the police by their husband following which the defendants were arrested.

    The victim, he said, was still in the hospital.

    Magistrate Osunsanmi granted the defendants N300,000 bail with two sureties each in the like sum.

    The case continues on July 2.

  • Housewife remanded for allegedly selling husband’s house

    A 41-year-old housewife, Mrs. Ifeoma Ofuegbu, who allegedly sold her husband’s house without his consent, was yesterday arraigned at an FCT High Court, Jabi.

    She denied committing the offence.

    Justice Vera Venda ordered that she be remanded at Suleja Prisons and adjourned the case till June 13 for hearing of her bail application.  Ofuegbu was arraigned on charges of cheating, criminal misappropriation and obtaining money by false pretence.

    Prosecutor Mrs. Hadiza Esai told the court that the defendant allegedly sold the house situated in Dawaki, FCT for N25 million.   She said the alleged offences contravened sections 320 and 308 of the Penal Code.

    Her lawyer, Mr. Chijioke Osuagwu, applied for her bail and argued that she remained innocent until proven otherwise.

    “The motion is brought pursuant to Section 6(6), 35 and 36(5) and (6b) of the 1999 Constitution.

    “Our motion for bail is also backed by Sections 158, 162, 165 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015.

    “Our prayers are contained in the motion paper; this motion is supported by four paragraphs affidavit and we rely on the paragraphs, especially paragraph three,” he said.

    Osuagwu urged the court to exercise its discretion in granting the bail in favour of the applicant and drew the court’s attention to the deteriorating health of his client.

    The prosecutor did not oppose the bail application, but said a plea bargain discussion was already on with the defendant.

  • Housewife seeks divorce for lack of food

    A housewife, Aisha Mohammed, yesterday  approached a Sharia Court in Minna, Niger State, seeking the dissolution of her marriage to Mohammed Shaba.

    Aisha accused her husband of failing to provide funds for her maintenance for the past seaven months.

    “In the last seven months, my husband has not lived up to his responsibility of putting food on the table at home.

    “He has failed in providing for my general maintenance and I cannot bear it anymore.

    “This is why I am begging this honourable court to dissolve the marriage,” Aisha said.

    Shaba, however, denied his wife’s allegations, saying he had always done his best for her.

    He said he still loved his wife and was against divorce.

    The judge, Ahmed Bima, advised the couple to give peace a chance, saying marriage requires patience and understanding.

    He said he would give the couple a chance to resolve their differences.

    Bima adjourned the case till May 21.
