BREAKING: Court discharges Comfort Emmason accused of unruly behaviour on Ibom Air flight

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday discharged Miss Comfort Emmason of charges bordering on unruly behaviour and assaulting the flight crew aboard an Ibom Air aircraft from Uyo to Lagos on Monday.

Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami struck out the five-count charge against Emmason after the police prosecution team withdrew the case.

At the resumed hearing, prosecutor Oluwabunmi Adeitan informed the court of new developments that necessitated the withdrawal.

NEFGAD urges Ibom Air to release in-flight video footage of Comfort Emmanson

A Civil Society Organisation, Network for the Actualisation of Social Growth and Viable Development (NEFGAD), has asked Ibom Air to release the in-flight video footage of the incident involving a passenger, Ms Comfort Emmanson, for proper investigation, to determine whether the lady’s actions were a result of sheer provocation.

This organisation has offered to provide free legal services to Miss Comfort Emmanson over what it described as “unfair, unjust, and unacceptable treatment” meted out to her by Ibom Air and other regulatory bodies involved in the matter.

NEFGAD made this known in a statement released to newsmen in Abuja on Monday through its Head of Office, Omoniyi Akingunola.

Ms. Comfort Emmanson was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre yesterday after she was arraigned for alleged assault.

The group stated that it is not convinced the lady received fair treatment, hence the need for a thorough investigation.

It also criticised the Airline Operators of Nigeria for hastily assuming the role of a court by handing the lady a lifetime ban without a fair hearing and thorough investigation.

NEFGAD further faulted the Nigeria Police for rushing to court in a matter that should have first undergone proper fact-finding.

The organisation stressed that the publicly available footage of the incident is incomplete, noting that the matter began on board the aircraft.

The statement said, “It is wrong to judge the incident based solely on the clip recorded outside the aircraft. It appears something happened inside the plane, and the lady reacted after she was prevented from disembarking, an apparent orchestrated provocation to ensure she was penalised for whatever had transpired in-flight.

“How do you expect anyone treated in such a manner to behave civilly after being forcibly dragged down? Or how do you explain that a passenger who was ready to disembark at one moment suddenly refused to leave moments later? This suggests the situation was deliberately escalated to fit a certain narrative.”

The organisation maintained that air hostesses or cabin crew cannot assume the role of law enforcement officers in such situations, especially when their actions cause serious physical assault.

It referenced a video released by Comfort Emmanson, where she was seen appealing to a flight attendant blocking her path to allow her to leave the aircraft.

According to NEFGAD, her request was ignored until the arrival of other airline and airport staff, who allegedly manhandled and assaulted her to the point of stripping her in public.

NEFGAD further demanded that those responsible for releasing the video showing the lady naked be investigated and prosecuted, describing the act as a criminal violation of her privacy.

Actress Mary Njoku has condemned the treatment of Comfort Emmanson by Ibom Air officials.

Emmanson was removed from a flight and later arraigned and remanded in prison after a viral video showed her being dragged off the plane with her breasts exposed.

Njoku expressed her outrage on Instagram, stating that while she understands the airline’s decision to offload Emmanson if necessary, the alleged act of stripping her and circulating the footage online is a gross violation of her dignity.

According to Njoku, airline staff are trained professionals, and dehumanising someone, stripping a woman naked, and broadcasting it online cannot be justified, regardless of the circumstances.

She pointed out the hypocrisy, noting that even the police ensure that criminals and alleged murderers are dressed and their private parts are covered during parades.

Njoku emphasised that airline officials should be held to a similar standard, and treating passengers with dignity is essential.

According to her, Emmanson deserves compensation for the damage done to her life and dignity.

She stressed that the incident is unacceptable and that Emmanson should not be left to face the consequences alone.

Njoku wrote, “I understand removing her from the plane, that’s not the issue. What I cannot understand is stripping her while doing so and then putting it all over the internet,” she said.

“Airline or airport staff are trained professionals, and I refuse to believe that dehumanising someone, stripping a woman naked, and broadcasting it online is part of that training, no matter what crime she may have committed.

“I’ve seen police parade even criminals and alleged murderers, and they still ensure those people are dressed and their private parts are covered. Authorities do not parade people naked. How much more should we expect from airline officials? They are not thugs!!!

“While she is being penalised or sent to jail for her actions, she should not be walking away from this alone. She deserves compensation for the damage done to her life and the dignity of every Nigerian woman. Because this is NOT acceptable!!!! Absolutely NOT acceptable!!!”

Ibom Air: Simi slams exposure of Emmanson’s indecent parts, demands sanctions

Singer Simi has called for sanctions against the individual who released a video of Comfort Emmanson being dragged off an Ibom Air plane with her breasts exposed.

According to the singer, it’s unfair to punish Emmanson for her behavior while ignoring the actions of those who recorded and shared the video without editing out the indecent parts.

She stated that sharing the video without blurring out Emmanson’s private parts was an invasion of her privacy and deserves punishment.

The mother of one questioned why the person who posted the video isn’t being held accountable, emphasising that they should face the law.

She wrote on Instagram: “Someone recorded her being dragged off the plane, recorded her being exposed like that, and then posted it without editing out this exposure or blurring it out. I personally want to know who posted that video and why no one is holding him/her accountable. Because they will face the law.

“But voluntarily posting her half-naked for millions of people to see when less than 10 people actually witnessed it in the first place deserves punishment too because you cannot condemn one madness and leave another one”.

The incident involved Comfort Emmanson being removed from an Ibom Air flight after a scuffle with staff over refusing to switch off her phone during takeoff.

A video of the incident went viral, showing Emmanson being dragged off the plane with her breasts exposed.

AON slams lifetime ‘No-Fly’ ban on Ibom Air passenger over in-flight assault

The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has imposed a lifetime no-fly ban on Ms. Comfort Emmanson, an Ibom Air passenger, for violent conduct aboard flight Q9 303 from Uyo to Lagos on August 10, 2025.

AON’s spokesperson, Professor Obiora Okonkwo, said on Monday that the decision followed a review of Ibom Air’s detailed report on the incident.

He commended the airline for its swift and professional handling of the situation and fully endorsed the sanctions already taken.

According to Okonkwo, the passenger’s initial refusal to comply with safety instructions on mobile phone usage escalated into a “brutal physical assault” on crew members. She allegedly attempted to use a fire extinguisher as a weapon — an act described as one of the most severe cases of unruly passenger behaviour in 2025.

“This was not just disruptive; it was a sustained, violent attack that placed the lives of crew, passengers, and the integrity of the aircraft at risk. This behaviour is unacceptable,” he declared.

“Therefore, effective immediately, the AON has placed Ms. Emmanson on its ‘No Fly’ list indefinitely.

“She is hereby banned from flying with any AON member either domestically or internationally for life. Such incidents have become one too many, with the most recent being the incident involving Nigerian musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1) on ValueJet and the unruly behaviour of Senator Adams Oshiomhole towards the members of staff of Air Peace.

“It is also worth mentioning that this incident exposes the vulnerabilities in the security response by the Aviation Security (AVSEC). The AON urgently calls on FAAN to immediately review and tighten security procedures at all airports across the country.

“The AON stands united with Ibom Air and all our members in maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards unruly airline passengers. Going forward, anyone who exhibits such behaviour will suffer similar consequences. While we recognise the rights of passengers to express their grievances, such actions must follow due process.

“We are committed to protecting our employees, passengers, equipment and maintaining the highest safety standards.”

The rising wave of unruly passenger behaviour in Nigeria’s aviation sector escalated on Sunday when a female traveller, identified as Ms. Comfort Emmanson, allegedly assaulted crew members aboard an Ibom Air Uyo–Lagos flight.

According to the airline, the incident began shortly before take-off when Ms. Emmanson was instructed regarding the standard aviation safety rules to switch off her mobile phone.

She reportedly refused until the Pilot-in-Command intervened, after which a fellow passenger seated beside her switched it off.

This act, Ibom Air said, triggered a verbal outburst from Ms. Emmanson, though the situation was temporarily defused, and the flight departed as scheduled.

Upon arrival in Lagos, Ms. Emmanson waited for all other passengers to disembark and then proceeded to confront the Purser, who had earlier instructed her.

She was said to have walked up to the unsuspecting Purser, stepped on her.

“By this time, the Pilot-in-Command had alerted airport security. Before security could arrive, the Purser, as seen on the viral video on the internet, prevented the passenger from leaving the aircraft until security arrived.

“She was then restrained and removed from the aircraft by force. Even after disembarking, she continued to assault Ibom Air security personnel and even slapped the ground supervisor.

“The passenger was removed from the ramp and taken into custody by FAAN security and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation.

Ibom Air hands over unruly passenger to police, bans her from its flights

The Management of Ibom Airlines Limited has reacted to the viral video involving a passenger on its flight from Uyo to Lagos and its crew members and other airport officials.

The airline said the passenger, Ms. Comfort Emmanson has been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and also restricted from any of its aircraft.

According to the airline, the passenger’s action posed a serious threat to the safety of its crew, passengers, and aircraft.

A statement by the airline reads, “Ibom Air confirms that on Sunday, August 10, 2025, an incident occurred on board our Uyo–Lagos flight involving a passenger, Ms. Comfort Emmanson, whose conduct posed a serious threat to the safety of our crew, passengers, and aircraft.

“Shortly before take-off from Uyo, Ms. Emmanson was instructed in line with standard aviation safety procedures, to switch off her mobile phone. She bluntly refused to comply until the Pilot-in-Command made an announcement, after which a fellow passenger seated beside her took the phone and switched it off.

This action prompted a verbal tirade from Ms. Emmanson. The situation was eventually calmed, and the flight departed as scheduled.

“Upon arrival in Lagos, Ms. Emmanson waited for all other passengers to disembark and then proceeded to confront the Purser who had earlier instructed her. She walked up to the unsuspecting Purser, stepped on her, forcibly tore off her wig, removed her glasses and threw them to the floor, and used her footwear to assault her.

  • Eno endorses Champion Breweries official beverage for Ibom Air

Eno endorses Champion Breweries official beverage for Ibom Air

Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno has declared Champion Breweries Plc the official beverage for Ibom Air, Akwa Ibom’s flagship airline.

Speaking at an event commemorating the launch of Champion Breweries’ new canned products, Eno described the brewery as a symbol of Akwa Ibom’s heritage and excellence.

The Governor said: “This is the drink for our people and it comes in different brands – Champion Lager Beer and Champ Malta, Champion Lager with Ginger Extract, Champ Malt with Butter Cookies and Champ Malt with Tiger Nut. In fact, Champ Malta at some point in this country won an award for being outstanding and I’m glad we could take it to the world. Just as Ibom Air is for Akwa Ibom, Champion is for Akwa Ibom. Ibom Air can serve these drinks, going forward.”

He emphasised the importance of promoting home-grown products, adding, “It is made in Akwa Ibom, recognized by Akwa Ibomites and the world. Let’s celebrate what God has given to us, and congratulations!”

The endorsement comes at a pivotal time for Champion Breweries Plc, which has recently expanded its product line to include canned beverages. This development is set to enhance distribution and cater to a broader market.

Pastor Imo Abasi Jacob, Chairman, Board of Directors of Champion Breweries Plc, reflected on the journey that led to this milestone.

He highlighted the widespread demand for Champion beverages across Nigeria, from Lagos to the northern regions  but also acknowledged the hitherto logistical hurdles.

The Chairman said: “Champion is a lager beer that was launched in the ’70s, and it remains the toast of the market. However, our challenge has always been distribution. The problem was that this market favorite was only available in bottles, limiting its reach. Today we have launched our CAN formats so Akwa Ibomites and Nigerians as a whole can now enjoy champion brands which they have always loved in cans too.”

“Therefore, this king was limited from influencing the market and bringing good returns to the good people of Akwa Ibom State. When I joined the board a little over a year ago, it was unthinkable that Champion Breweries products could be in cans. Technology had shifted, the market had shifted, but the capital to adapt wasn’t available. Today, our CAN formats are a dream come true,” Pastor Jacob explained.

He went ahead and credited Governor Eno’s leadership and business-friendly policies for making the shift to cans possible.

“Your Excellency, I can say that this means a lot to us. In the past, when we launched our products, the bottles rarely returned intact, affecting production. Our competitors took advantage, buying and breaking our bottles, starving us of resources and limiting our growth. Today, we are glad the God of the golden era has come to our aid, broken the jinx, and we now have both cans and bottles.”

The Chairman lauded the management team at Champion Breweries for their resilience and innovation, which he believes will further solidify the brand’s standing in Nigeria’s competitive beverage market.

The event concluded with a resounding call to support local industries, with Governor Eno’s endorsement serving as a catalyst for Champion Breweries’ continued expansion and success.
