    Ibom Air chief pilot challenges stereotypes as barriers to career advancement

    Chief Pilot of Ibom Air, Captain Ruth Adebanjo, has challenged stereotypes and outdated beliefs suggesting certain professions are gender-specific.

    Adebanjo shared this insight during her motivational talk at the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Africa Festival in Lagos.

    Speaking to a diverse audience of young STEM enthusiasts and professionals, under the theme “Empowering Girls in STEM Careers: Strategies for Success, “Captain Adebanjo highlighted the importance of inclusivity and diversity in STEM.

    She emphasised that everyone, regardless of gender, should pursue their passion without limitations.

    She encouraged participants to strive for excellence in their chosen fields and stressed the importance of family support in nurturing young careers.

    Adebanjo noted that a supportive environment plays a crucial role in both personal and professional growth.

    The STEM Fest provided a platform for interactions, workshops, and exhibitions to foster innovation and creativity among young people interested in STEM disciplines.

    Ibom Air, tour operators partner

    Ibom Air has given reasons why it is fostering partnership with tour operators, saying the pact emphasises the role airlines could play in enhancing tourism potential and connectivity across Nigeria.

    Ibom Air’s Director of Airline Services, Amaka Echetabu who made this known at an engagement with members of the Nigerian Association of Tour Operators (NATOP) during their National Conference and Annual General Meeting.in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital said the relationship between airlines and tour operators cannot be overemphasised, affirming that such pact underscores underscoring Ibom Air’s strategic initiatives aimed at supporting the growth of Nigeria’s tourism.

    The interaction concluded with a renewed commitment from Ibom Air to NATOP to continue working together towards achieving mutual sustainable growth and development in the tourism sector, a budding and highly viable contributor to the nation’s economy.

     Also speaking, the Group Manager of Marketing and Communication, Mrs. Aniekan Essienette harped on the essence of promoting tourism as a catalyst for progress, peace, and partnership’.

    State – run carrier – Ibom Air at the weekend added another airplane to its fleet in order to boost its capacity and meet growing demand for its product.

    The Airbus 220- 300 aircraft brings to 11 the airplanes in the fleet after the outstanding delivery of nine units.

    According to a statement by its General Manager, Marketing, and Communication, Ibom Air,  Aniekan  Essienette : “It is worth noting the continuing embrace of aircraft financing by Nigerian banks. This new purchase was financed by both Fidelity and Union Banks, with Fidelity as the majority partner. Ibom Air is delighted to have Nigerian financial institutions supporting its growth.

    “In October 2021, Ibom Air put in a firm order for 10 Airbus A220-300 aircraft, the first of which was delivered in November 2023.

    “However, with demand for the airline’s product outpacing the delivery schedule of the order, the airline decided to purchase this A220 from Carlyle Aviation, a world-renowned aircraft lessor and global player in the industry”.

    The delivery event, which was held at Maastricht Airport in the Netherlands, was personally attended by the Shareholder, Pastor Umo Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, accompanied by the Airline’s management team and executive council and state assembly members.

    Emmanuel, Ibom Air storm Canadaas carrier receives first Airbus 220 planes

    Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Founder of Ibom Air, Mr Udom Emmanuel was among those present at the weekend, when the state made history in Nigeria’s aviation industry with the delivery of the first of 10 brand new Airbus A220-300 series airplanes, earlier signed during  his tenure in 2021.

     Ibom Air was founded in 2019 during the administration of Mr Udom Emmanuel, and two years later, on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, he led a delegation from Ibom Air to the Dubai Air show where he met and reached a firm agreement with Airbus for the procurement of 10 new A220-300 series airplanes.

     Subsequently, on Friday in Montreal, Canada, Mr Emmanuel was with top management staff of Ibom Air that inspected and received the first aircraft at the Airbus’ Mirabel facility.

     The Chief Executive Officer of Airbus, Benoit Schultz, Vice-President, Daniel Wenninger, Head Of Airbus A220 Delivery Center, Marc Arpin  and Cyrille Picard, Sales Director Middle-East & Africa made the presentation of the new Airbus aircraft.

     Leading top management officers of Ibom Air were the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air, Captain Mfon Udom and the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, Mr. George Uriesi.

     Speaking at the occasion, founder of Ibom Air and immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom, Mr Emmanuel said Ibom Air was the first airline to take delivery of the all-new Airbus A220 in Nigeria.

     He said during his time as Governor, he had envisaged Ibom Air becoming a dominant player in the aviation sector within the West African and African aviation hub and commended Governor Umo Eno for sustaining the aviation development project of the state.

     The Airbus A220-300 stands at the forefront of modern aviation technology, garnering global recognition for its revolutionary fuel efficiency, cutting-edge technology, and top-notch passenger comfort and safety features.

     The aircraft is adaptable for short and medium-haul commercial operations, with a range of up to seven hours (up to 3,450 nautical miles).

     The addition of the Airbus A220-300 to Ibom Air’s fleet positions the airline for expanded service across diverse destinations within the African continent.

     Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mfon Udom, expressed great enthusiasm on the arrival of the Airbus A220-300, saying, “The introduction of the Airbus A220-300 to our fleet is a game-changing leap forward for Ibom Air. The decision to invest in a fleet of highly efficient brand-new aircraft to power our growth plans underscores our determination to offer no less than world-class airline services to our valued customers.”

    Ibom Air, MRO: Gov Eno seeks partnership with Aviation Ministry

    Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has expressed the readiness of the State Government to continue to partner with the Ministry of Aviation for continuous development and expansion of the State -owned airline, Ibom Air.

    The Governor made this known, during a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of Aviation, Mr. Festus Keyamo SAN, in Abuja.

    He noted that the State is committed to aviation development, and currently, has a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul, (MRO) facility and a new international smart terminal building at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo.

    The governor who is on a working visit to Abuja, informed the Minister that the State will be receiving the first of brand new A220-300 Airbuses ordered by the State government next month, and used the opportunity to invite him to be the Special Guest of Honour at the event.

    He noted that new addition of Airbuses, is part of the efforts by the State government to expand the operations of the State -owned airline.

    The Governor, who has since assumption of office, worked round the -clock to ensure effective and efficient implementation of the ARISE Agenda, said the State is very particular about the continuous development of its aviation industry, stressing that developing the tourism industry, agriculture, and other sectors as contained in the ARISE agenda are largely dependent on the aviation industry.

    He noted that the State under his watch seeks to connect the dots of development by the previous administrations for the benefit of every Akwa Ibomites.

    Governor Eno appreciated the Minister and solicited his help to ensure full commencement of operations of the Maintenance, Overhaul and Repairs ( MRO) facility, a signature aviation facility fully constructed by the state government.

    In his response, the Minister, Mr Festus Keyamo SAN appreciated the Governor for the visit and assured that the ministry will continue to support the state government in its determined efforts to develop and expand its aviation sector. He applauded Ibom Air for the strides it has recorded in the aviation sector.

    The Governor had, in the course of the working visit to the Federal Capital, attended the Council of State’s meeting as well as the PDP Governors’ Forum.
