  • Two teenagers remanded for allegedly defiling 13-year-old girl

    AN Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court  has ordered that two teenagers, who allegedly defiled their friend’s 13-year-old sister, be remanded in prison, pending legal advice.

    Giving out the order on Friday, Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat, who did not take the plea of the defendants, but ordered that they should be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons.

    Sule-Amzat ordered the police to send the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

    The magistrate adjourned the case until Oct. 14, for further hearing.

    The Police prosecutor, ASP Benson Emuerhi, had told the court that the defendants, aged 18 and 19, committed the offence on April 20 and April 27, at about 4 p.m, at Bimbo Marque, off AIT road, Alagbado, Lagos.

    Emuerhi alleged that the defendants sexually abused the minor.

    He said that the case was reported at the Alagbado Divisional Police Station by the victim’s brother and was transferred to the Gender Section, Ikeja Police Division for further investigation.

    The offence, he added, contravened the provisions of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The case was adjourned to Oct. 14, for further hearing.

  • Father accused of sexual assault on three daughters remanded in prison

    AN Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday  ordered   a 57-year-old father, Mojeeb Fashola, accused of sexually assaulting his three daughters, to  be remanded in prison pending legal advice.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Olufunke Sule-Amzat, who did not take Fashola’s plea, remanded him in Kirikiri Prison and ordered that the case file be sent to the state’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for the advice.

    She adjourned the case until Oct. 14.

    Earlier, the Prosecuting Officer, ASP. Benson Emuerhi, had told the court that the defendant committed the offences between April and May, 2019, at his residence in Ayetoro, Ijanikin, near Badagry.

    Emuerhi alleged that the defendant sexually assault one of the girls aged eight years (name withheld) by using his finger to penetrate into her private part.

    He added that on a later date, the defendant also unlawfully assaulted his two other daughters, aged 10 years and 12 years (names withheld), by touching their buttock and breast seductively.

    The prosecutor said that when the victim’s mother threatened to report the matter to the police, the defendant physically assaulted her by beating her and hitting her head and hand with a pestle.

    He said that the defendant was apprehended by the police and that the case was transferred to the Gender Section at Ikeja Police Command for further investigation.

    According to Emuerhi, the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 135, 170 and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

  • Cobbler in court for alleged phone theft

    AN Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Friday granted a 19-year-old cobbler Sunday Lekan, N100, 000 bail, following his arraignment for alleged theft.

    Lekan was docked on allegation of stealing a Tecno phone worth N28, 500 at a BetNija shop.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs S.K. Matepo, asked Lekan to produce two sureties as part of the bail conditions.

    Matepo ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed with evidence of two years tax payment to Lagos State Government,

    The defendant, a resident of No 7 Daramola Kazeem St., Egan, Igando, Lagos, is facing a two-count-charge of conspiracy and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

    Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Adetutu Sanusi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with some others still at large, on June 11, at 2.00 p.m. at No. 15 Joseph Abume St., Igando.

    Sanusi said the defendant stole the phone, belonging to the complainant, Mr Chidi Akabunwa.

    She said the defendant stole the complainant’s phone containing a memory card from where it was plugged to charge its battery at a BetNaija shop.

    “The complainant plugged his phone with a memory card in it, at a BetNija shop when the defendant unplugged it and ran away.

    “He later caught the defendant and reported the case at a police station,” the prosecutor said.

    Sanusi said the offences violated sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

    The case was adjourned to August 5, for further hearing.

     

  • Two charged with robbery

    An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded two men in prison for allegedly robbing a woman of items valued N1.11 million at gunpoint.

    Monsuru Oladiran, 32, and Azeez Ayinla, 26 are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and robbery before Magistrate, A.A. Fashola.

    Prosecuting Sergeant Michael Unah said the defendants committed the offence with others at large on May 11 around 1.40am on Ijegun Road, Ikotun in Lagos.

    He said the defendants broke into the house of the complainant, Mrs Ngozi Ogbenna, with an AK47 rifle and other offensive weapons and robbed her.

    Unah said the defendants robbed their victim of N670,000 cash, a 32-inch Led television and a Samsung Galaxy S10  valued at N45,000 and  N400,000  respectively.

    The defendants, he said, were arrested a few days after the complainant lodged her report.

    Magistrate Fashola ordered them remanded in Kirikiri Prisons, pending advice by the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

    He adjourned till August 12.

  • Cook steals ex-lawmaker’s N8m Jewellery

    A 34-year-old cook, Mathew Gouda, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing pieces of Jewellery valued at $27,000  (about N8.2 million) from a former member of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mrs Funmi Tejuosho.

    Gouda was arraigned on one count charge of stealing before Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat.

    Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Benson Emuerhi said the defendant committed the offence on May 31, at 8.30 p.m. at Sasegbon Street, GRA, Ikeja.

    ASP Emuerhi said the cook, conspired with others now at large, broke into his boss’ room, stole the Jewellery and ran away.

    He said Mrs Tejuosho reported the case to the police and the defendant was arrested following investigation.

    Gouda pleaded not guilty.

    Chief Magistrate Sule-Amzat granted him N200,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum.

    She adjourned till July 3.

  • Businessman ‘sells’ counterfeit gold for N650,000

    A 33-year-old businessman, Abdulahi Abubakar, was on Monday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged N650,000 fraud.

    Abubakar was alleged to have sold a counterfeit necklace to Tijani Jubril for N650,000 knowing the necklace was not genuine.

    Abubakar is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing before Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat.

    The prosecutor, Benson Emuerhi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), said the defendant committed the offence last July 17 on Albati Street, Idi Araba, with others still at large.

    Emuerhi said the defendant assured Jubril that the necklace was gold.

    Emuerhi said the defendant was arrested after the complainant reported the case to the police.

    Chief Magistrate Sule-Amzat granted the defendant N50,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum.

    She adjourned till July 29.

  • Trader poses with stolen vehicle on Facebook

    A trader, Ekene Mbonu, on Thursday appeared at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly buying a stolen car, valued at N3 million and flaunting it on the Facebook as his own.

    Mbonu, 31, whose residential address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

    Prosecuting Sergeant Michael Unah alleged that Mbonu purchased a Toyota Camry 2008 with registration number, KSR 665 CB, worth N3 million, property of Alex Ewuzie.

    The car was suspected to have been stolen by Ewuzie’s house keeper, one Peter, now at large.

    Unah alleged that the defendant committed the offences with others at large last November 27, at 5pm, at 20, Obasa Street, near Oba Akran Road, Ikeja.

    He alleged that the defendant bought the stolen car from the complainant’s house help, who absconded with the complainant’s property.

    “The complainant tracked the car and found it in the possession of the defendant, who was already flaunting it on social media platforms,” said the prosecutor.

    He said the offences contravened sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

    Chief Magistrate A.A. Fashola granted the defendant N500, 000 bail with two sureties in the like sum.

    He said the sureties must be employed with an evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government, adding that the sureties must live within the court’s jurisdiction. The case continues on July 17.

  • Son accused of stealing dad’s N4.3m

    A 34-year-old businessman, Innocent Osanebi, was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N4.3 million from his father.

    Osanebi, who lives at 31, Bakara Street, Ojodu Berger, Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of stealing, threat to life and breach of the peace.

    He pleaded not guilty.

    Prosecuting Sergeant Michael Unah said the defendant stole items worth the amount from his father’s hotel last October.

    He alleged that the defendant stole 50 laptops worth N3 million, 40 phones valued at N1.2 million, a generator worth N78,000 and N80,000.

    Unah added that the defendant threatened his father, Mr. Francis Ishekivene, with a knife.

    He said the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by harassing and chasing away customers from the hotel.

    “The defendant destroyed the facilities installed at the hotel,” the prosecutor said.

    He said the alleged offences contravened sections 168, 287 and 56 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

    Chief Magistrate A.A. Fashola admitted the defendant to N250,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum.

    He said the sureties must be employed and have evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

    Fashola added that the sureties must live within the court’s jurisdiction.

    The case was adjourned till July 17.

  • Hotel supervisor steals employers N154, 000

    A 49-year-old hotel supervisor, Dotun Akingbade, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged theft of N154,000 belonging to his employer.

    The defendant, who resides at No. 5, Olugbenga Street, Agbado-Ijaiye,Lagos, is facing a two-count-charge of stealing and breach of peace before Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.A. Adetunji.

    Prosecuting  Inspector (Insp.)  Matthew Akhaloude, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in February 2018, between 6.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. at Dansoky Hotel, located at No. 3, Prince Ademola Adunola Street, Ijaiye, Ojokoro, Lagos.

    Insp. Akhaloude said the defendant allegedly stole the sum of N154, 000 from the complainant, Prince Ademola Adunola.

    He said the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by selling the wines of the hotel and diverting the money into his pocket.

    According to him, the defendant, who had barely spent six months in the  employ of the complainant, also sold some of the hotel’s property, without the knowledge and consent of the owner.

    He said all attempts to recover the money from the defendant failed.

    Akingbade however pleaded not guilty to the two count charge preferred against him by the Police.

    Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Adetunji, granted him bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    She ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed , provide  evidence of two years tax payments to the Lagos State Government and should also have their addresses verified.

    She added that the sureties must be blood relations of the defendant.

    She adjourned the case until May 31.

  • Court remands herbalist for allegedly defiling nieces

    An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Tuesday remanded a 64-year-old herbalist, Taiwo Ilesanmi, at Kirikiri Prisons for allegedly defiling his two nieces.

    Chief Magistrates P. E. Nwaka ordered that Ilesanmi be kept behind bars, pending an advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

    He adjourned the case till June 13.

    The defendant’s plea was not taken.

    Ilesanmi, who lives at 2, Kulade Street, Abesan, Ipaja, near Lagos, is facing charges of defilement and rape.

    Prosecuting Inspector Christopher John said the defendant committed the offences from 2013 to April 2019 at his home.

    He alleged that the defendant had been sexually molesting his two nieces aged 10 and 14 for the past six years.

    “The complaints, who stay with the defendant, could not take it anymore, so the 14-year-old reported the matter to one of their neighbours, who informed the police,” John added.

    He said the girls told the police that the defendant molested them anytime his wife was not around and threatened to kill them if they told anyone.

    “The defendant was arrested and brought to the court,” the prosecutor said.
