    Dream Team to parade Awoniyi, five others at Korea tourney

    Six foreign-based professionals led by FSV Frankfurt striker, Taiwo Awoniyi have confirmed they will be available for Nigeria’s Olympic team at this month’s invitational tournament in South Korea.

    Other foreign –based players that had confirmed their participation in the tournament  are – Imoh Ezekiel, Sodiq Popoola (Belgium),  Azubuike Okechukwu (Turkey), Ajayi Junior (Tunisia) and Usman Mohammed (Portugal), africanFootball.com reports.

    Hosts Korea, Honduras and Denmark are the other teams taking part in the competition.

    Real Sociedad manager, David Moyes, was at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne on Sunday to run the rule over 21-year-old Standard Liege forward, Imoh Ezekiel, in the team 4-0 win over Kortrijk.

    Since returning to Standard Liege Ezekiel has scored goals in 11 games he failed to hit the target on Sunday despite playing for the entire duration of the match, sl10.ng reports.

    Moyes is looking for a striker to improve his team’s forward line next season.

    And Spanish sources said that the Super Eagles striker fits the bill of the type of striker the former Manchester United manager is on the look-out for.

    However, Sociedad manager will have to fend off interest from Club Brugge and Anderlecht of Belgium, with the latter viewed as favourites to Ezekiel’s signature in the summer.

    Nigeria striker Imoh Ezekiel scored to help Standard Liege beat Waasland Beveren 3-2 in the Belgian Pro League game played on Friday night.

    Ezekiel was good enough to last the entire duration in the five-goal thriller at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne.

    Jonathan Rowell silenced Standard Liege fans with the opener in the 16th minute.

    The visitors however surrendered this lead nine minutes to the end of the first half through one cap Super Eagles striker Ezekiel.

    Renaud Emond restored Waasland Beveren’s lead in the 64th minute but their defensive issues were again brought to the fore as they conceded a Jiloan Hamad 82nd minute strike.

    Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez however popped up in the 85th minute to win it for Jose Riga’s side who were in dire need of a win to put the pressure on Anderlecht and Club Brugge.

    Standard Liege however remain five points behind leaders Club Brugge after 27 rounds of matches in the Belgium top flight league.

    Super Eagles striker, Imoh Ezekiel, began life as a Standard Liege player once again, scoring the team’s second goal in a 3-0 victory over Mouscron Peruwels, sl10.ng reports.

    The former 36 Lions forward rejoined the club on Tuesday on loan from Al Arabi of Qatar and had just two training session, which was good enough to put him in the starting line-up.

    In his first spell with the team, it took him seven games to score his first goal in the 2011/2012 season, but this time around, he needed few minutes to open his goal account in the Belgium Jupiler League.

    Super Eagles forward, Imoh Ezekiel, was among the stars selected from the Qatar League to feature for Qatar Super League stars that played against German Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich, in a club friendly in Doha.

    The former 36 Lion FC of Lagos player started the game for the Qatar Super League stars.

    A Weiser brace and a goal each from Ribery and Pizarro completed the four goals scored by Bayern Munich while Harbaoui got the consolation for the Qatar Super League stars, sl10.ng reports.

    Ezekiel said it was a fantastic experience to play against Bayern Munich players who he described as super stars.

    “It was a fantastic experience to run down and torment world class players in the Bayern Munich team with the unique kind of speed God gave me,” Ezekiel told sl10.ng.

    One-cap Super Eagles striker, Imoh Ezekiel, was among the goal scorers as his Qatari club Al Arabi defeated hosts Al Wakrah 4-2 in a Super League game on Friday, africanFootball.com reports.

    The 36 Lion of Lagos product was on song in the 49th minute to restore parity at 2-2.

    He has now scored five goals in the league.

    Al Arabi lies fourth on the league table with 12 points from seven games.

    He lasted 89 minutes before he was replaced by Iranian international Dejagah.

    Nigerian striker Imoh Ezekiel has shot to the top of the goal scorers’ chart in Qatar after he scored his fourth goal in as many games for Al Arabi on Friday, africanFootball.com reports.

    The former Standard Liege of Belgium striker scored Al Arabi’s second goal in Friday night’s 4-0 victory over Al Shamal.

    He is now the joint top scorer in the Qatar Star League with four goals, same as Tunisian Hamdi Harbaoui of Qatar SC.

    The 36 Lion of Lagos product was replaced with Paulinho in the 72nd minute.

    Super Eagles media officer, Ben Alaiya, has allayed fear over the availability of Standard Liege forward, Imoh Ezekiel, for the March 5 international friendly against Mexico.

    Fear has been expressed over the player’s interest in playing for Nigeria following the reported strong interest shown in the youngster by Belgium soccer authorities.

    Alaiya said the striker was the first invited player to be granted the American entry visa document for the March 5 clash against the North Americans.

    “Imoh Ezekiel has been confirmed for the friendly against Mexico thereby resting speculations over his availability for the game.

    “In fact, he was the first player to be issued with the American visa for the game.

    “Ezekiel is quite ready and eager to feature for the Super Eagles against the Mexicans, he’ll be there for the game and this is authoritative,” Alaiya told supersport.com.

    He confirmed the team’s departure on Sunday aboard Delta Airlines flight for the friendly tie.

    “All the players and officials expected to depart from Nigeria for the game have got their American Visas.

    “Azubuike Egwuekwe, Ejike Uzoenyi, Kunle Odunlami, Abdullahi Shehu, among others will all leave the nation’s shores on Sunday for the game.

    “Responses from the players have been heartwarming and they’ve vowed to give the Mexicans the toughest game of their lives,” Alaiya said.

    Imoh Ezekiel won’t dump Nigeria – Mentor

    The mentor of Super Eagles’ invitee, Imoh Ezekiel, has dismissed as mere rumour a report that the Standard Liege striker could dump Nigeria for Belgium.

    The chairman of 36 Lion of Lagos, Gafar Liamed, guided the youngster to stardom and he told MTNFootball.com the striker is excited to be called up by Nigeria for next month’s World Cup warm-up against Mexico in United States.

    “It is just a rumour, Imoh is not thinking of dumping Nigeria for Belgium because he told me that he is excited about the invitation to join the many great players in the Eagles,” Liamed declared.

    “As I speak with you, he has been given a two-year multiple visa to the USA and he will hit America for the Mexico game on March 3.”

    He said the 36 Lion product is not seeking Belgian citizenship, but the country wish to give him and there is a protocol to achieve that.

    “Imoh is not seeking Belgian nationality as being rumoured. No player or person can seek nationality of any country by themselves because there is a protocol for that to happen. In this case, one must have stayed in that country for three years to be given citizenship and Imoh has stayed in Belgium for less than three years, which makes him ineligible for the citizenship.

    “The truth is that Belgium coach Marc Wilmots wants him, and he is trying to fast track the citizenship procedure, but Imoh has taken a decision to play for Nigeria, so there is no going back on that,” he told MTNFootball.com.

    Standard Liege of Belgium hotshot Imoh Ezekiel has been handed his first Nigeria call-up, MTNFootball.com reports.

    Ezekiel is one of three uncapped players for the pre-World Cup clash with others being Ramon Azeez of Almeria and Cercle Brugge striker Michael Uchebo.

    A source close to the 20-year-old striker told MTNFootball.com that the invitation has been sent to the player ahead of a March 5 friendly game against Mexico in United States.

    “Imoh Ezekiel has been invited to Super Eagles for the friendly against Mexico in US. He is happy with this opportunity and will utilise the chance to the fullest,” the source told MTNFootball.com

    Ezekiel has scored nine goals in the Belgian top flight this season and last year he was considered by Flying Eagles handlers for the U-20 World Cup in Turkey.

    The 36 Lion of Lagos striker has been in superb form for Standard Liege and has been linked to a change of nationality.
