  • Giving meaningful lives to Children

Instead of the conventional Children’s day, spent crowding around in amusement parks, the Leadership Clinic, an arm of Matadors International celebrated Children’s day on Saturday, the 27th of May 2017 in grand style, at Heritage Homes Orphanage in a day laced with so much display of love and generous affection, combined with laughter.

The Leadership clinic in persons of Opadele Abayomi Emmanuel, Miss Toluwalope Oyinloye and Oluwaseye Oni, the coordinators for their Lagos arm organized an Orphanage donation project, urging the general public to support children and grant them the desired the means to a sustainable future.

Speaking to our correspondent at the 45, Faramobi Ajike Street residence of Heritage Homes Orphanage, Anthony Village, an over enthusiastic Abayomi said:

“The leadership clinic seeks to raise a new breed of leaders and that is why we are here at this Orphanage to tell them they are amazing and could do much better with their lives and also introduce the Leadership Clinic to them as the newest and purest breed of the next generation of Leaders.”

It can be recalled that the Leadership Clinic made a public call to the general public few weeks ago, urging the general public to come show some love to children in the Orphanage as well as put a smile on their faces. This call was well responded to, as a small group of people came around to donate kiddies items for the children housed in the Orphanage, where the age ranged from some months to seven years old.

The programme which commenced at 10:00 a.m stretched for two hours, as the organizers had begun to coordinate the children with the help of Uncle Sunday, a microbiology student who just felt the need to volunteer at the event. The donation project commenced with recitals of the national anthem, after which renditions of poems and songs went on and on.

Mrs Ikwuagwu, the supervisor on duty, who had been working at Heritage Homes for the lengthy duration of five years, gave a short description about the inception of the project and spoke of its 15-year existence.

“The dream started in 2002 with Eme. O. Akenzua, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo and Mrs Funmi Juwah and we got our first child by 2004,” she recounted. “We believe that children are God’s heritage and we believe in giving meaningful lives to destitute children in need, as well as offering assistance in the areas of reconciliation and adoption where necessary.”

She further stressed their policy, stating that they were not interested in discrimination of any sort and have since reconciled 43 children back to their families, while also sponsoring some children with health problems to India and other places where their health issues could be well attended to.

The donor project finally came to an end with the cut of a cake and remarkable smiles on the faces for the Organizers of the Leadership Clinic. Oluwaseye Oni, who caught up with our correspondent was eager to note that the Orphanage Donor Project was a social project from the Leadership Clinic which was used to organizing youth gatherings from state to state, all over the Federation, designed to shape mindsets of young professionals on National issues.

Seye also went further to intimate our correspondent of the international youth day coming in a few months’ time.

“This orphanage donor project is part of the social projects geared towards our next generation of leaders- the children and teenagers in this case. We also have youth gatherings and we would like to use this medium to inform the general public of our next event which is in commemoration of the international youth day, scheduled for August 12, 2017. The target audience which is geared towards the youths is expected to reset the mindset of the youths on what leadership is, and that is why it is termed a clinic,” the eloquent Seye added.

In responding to a question from the over a thousand participants at the event, whether a University degree was instrumental to his success, Bez Idakula stated: “Education and schooling are two different things. • Drinking superior to eating – Adeboye

Drinking superior to eating – Adeboye

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye has stated that drinking is superior to eating at the new auditorium campgrounds of the church located at Simawa near Asese Village in Ogun state.

He made this statement at a Communion service which held yesterday, Thursday, March 2nd, 2017, as part of the week-long activities slated to mark his 75th birthday anniversary.

“Drinking is superior to eating. Scientists, however, have said it is possible for a man to exist for 100 days without eating, but there are doubts if one can survive more than 7 days without water,” Adeboye commented.

The soft-spoken preacher stressed that physical health is important but opined that the communion should be seen as a spiritual recharge and renewal.

The week long programme with the theme “Come and drink” has featured several special services since Monday, part of which included a 75-hour praise marathon session at the Church’s Youth centre.

The programme continues with a special Holyghost service on Friday, and a thanksgiving service on Sunday.

The court has stated that they have no jurisdiction over the matter and has in turn transferred all facts of the case to the Industrial Court, Ibadan.

However, Stakeholders have insisted that they are waiting to see the Federal Government do the right thing by allowing Prof. Salami assume office as the properly appointed Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University.

  • Buhari a narrow leader – Adesola

President Muhammadu Buhari has been described as a arrow leader at a regional workshop on Saturday at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The observation was made by Ademola Adesola, a book critic, journalist and an analyst on national matters, who attributed several failures of the Country to lack of multiethnic policial participation in several public positions occupied in the state.

Speaking at the Press Council in The polytechnic Ibadan, at the regional conference organised by the National Association of Nigerian Campus Editors (NANCE); Ademola said: “President Muhammadu Buhari is a narrow minded leader.

“Between 1985 and 2015, he didn’t go beyond the UK to see his physician. He could have read books about promoting multiethnicism in his own country. But he has never travelled beyond his base to experience several parts of the country he governs.

“Over 22 slots of the 33 kitchen cabinet slots are from the North. Most top political positions are peopled by Northerners. A well traveled person would encourage multiethnic diversity in top governmental positions.”

He also advised journalists at the worshop to travel and read widely about enhancing the journalist trade. Since “travelling is like reading a page and experiencing worldviews no book qualification can obtain.”

Using himself as a pivotal focus, he explained his journey as a successful student journalist. He also motivated the students to do their reportage duties in informing and educating the community they reside in without leaving objectivity and truthfulness out.

He finally encouraged the journalists present; by recommending some important books to be read by them in order to improve their mental wellbeing.

  • Of conductors, bus drivers and change

You know the biggest menace of present day metropolitan Lagos?

    It’s Change.

Not the Buhari’s mantra of witch-haunting erring public officers; but the pain of losing your loose cash to the sly whims of a Lagos bus conductor.

    Whimsical, right?

Strange, but true. Nka n be. My worst TV show of all time.

Yes! I can brag about my own life. In all my life as a sojourner in this Lagos; I have never forgotten my change in any conductor’s hand. I can’t even recall one because there has never been one!

It is either the change is tied to my airtime, or someone’s leased money or my transport fare to somewhere.

I am not much of the rough type. Maybe because I ask gently. I have heard many cries of many commuters  and many curses too. How sad it is to lose your change. With the economy where everyone is faithfully sourcing for quick wealth! And times are as tough as hell! It is no doubt we are in the toughest of times.

This will be the second time I will see a commuter lose their change in a commercial bus. Early this week, I boarded a bus- #50 was my change. At a point, I got tired and stopped asking. I wasn’t the only one who got tired to ask, the woman beside me too, got too tired to ask.

Surprisingly, She alighted at the next bus-stop. And the rest was history. The bus driver couldn’t try that with me. I made sure my request was well received.

Today again, a woman paid for a group of her four friends in head gears for an exciting and very colourful function. In the end after paying #500 for the four women. They all got off the bus. Leaving a lump sum in the driver’s hand. That bus was #50 per passenger.

So the driver gained #500 from one woman!!! How nice.

I will say this motorists cheat us every single day! It is much worse when all this mantra of change hasn’t gotten us anywhere than hoping for all things to turn better.

If you ask me, I will say we got whips, a cross, several hammers and nails to crucify these motorists.

    It is so unfair.
