Buhari will be reelected for second term – Adeyeye

Senate Chip Whip of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Senator Olusola Adeyeye has drummed support for President Muhammadu Buhari ‘s re-election for the second term.

Senator Adeyeye made this known in an interview granted to newsmen yesterday on a broadcast medium.

The Senate Chip Whip believed Muhammadu Buhari would win the 2019 election because the Government will continue to own up to their mistakes.

He also dismissed talks of building new refineries after stating that efforts to reform Nigerian refineries is futile. He hinted on the need to build new refineries and move Nigeria ahead.

“I believe my party will win the 2019 election. We will own up to the mistakes of our tenure. We will own up. Trying to tinker with the refineries is a futile process. What we can do is to build new refineries.”

Cleanliness, next to Godliness – Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye has enjoined members of the church to keep good hygiene.
This occurred in a final address early Saturday morning at the Redemption Camp Grounds, Simawa in Ogun State on the occasion of the yearly December Holy Ghost Congress tagged “Songs of Victory.”
Pastor Adeboye encouraged members of the church to avoid littering the Church Auditorium and camp premises at all times.
He also told the mammoth crowd present at the Congress to transfer this attitude down to their homes and places of work.
“Cleanliness is next to godliness, let us be good ambassadors of the church. Pick up any trash you see in Church premises and let this trait extend to your homes and wherever you go,” the soft spoken preacher stated.
Adeboye buttressed his point by emphasizing the importance of cleanliness.
“Cleanliness is next to godliness. Everything has it own space. No one packs the car in the garden. Whenever you see something that is not meant to be; put things in the right place,” Adeboye explained.

Preservative leadership all we have since 90s – George

Samuel Obafemi George has made the call for youths to be active in politics and self-determination.

This call was made in a speech given last weekend at the Leadership Clinic Lagos, a subset of Matadors Leadership Institute, designed in building the next generation of young leaders.

The event themed: “Youths building Peace” was in commemoration of the International Youth Day and featured high-profile speakers, emphasising the importance for the youths to reorientate and reposition themselves for Nation building.

George lamented the failure of sustainable and progressive leadership in Nigeria, as he made it clear that Nigerians current crop of leaders have only been preservative enough to maintain the status quo, and that aspect of leadership without effective impact to restore the country to greater strides will expire soon. He said the country has to come to the stage where the change is needed.

“Since the 90s, all we have had is preservative leaders who only desire to maintain the status quo. These leaders are

only there because they were the next to fall in line after the likes of Awolowo, one of Nigeria’s greatest leaders of all time. Not many politicians have surpassed Awolowo’s feat till date and that is why we need change agents since a lot is at stake,” George stated.

    We have an Advantage

The one-time aspirant for the Eti-Osa Local Government Chairmanship Election in 2016 encouraged youths to leave their comfort zones and step into space.

“Let us be ready,” he enthused. “Politics is a game and it is your persona that defines how you play the game. A clean man plays clean politics and a dirty man plays politics the dirty way but Nigeria needs you and I. Youths are not too young to take over.”

Obafemi George who is also The Founder of  LIFE initiative, a non-governmental organisation, told the audience how he first came into the political scene eight years ago, under the banner of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) now All Progressive Congress (APC).

“I joined the ACN eight years ago on the insistence of my wife who challenged me to do something to make Nigeria better and since then, I have worked assiduously to push Nigeria forward by running in the Eti-Osa Local Government elections,” the social media entrepreneur narrated.

“To be actively involved in politics, you must have intellectual depth. It is what sets you aside from others, that is why you must read wide before you decide to be a part of the political process. Put an end to social media activism and join an active party at the Local level to see how things are done. We must do the real work to restore our country back onto the path of progress; no one hands over power easily.”

‘Migration not only way to self-actualisation’

A German-Nigerian Journalist, Femi Awoniyi has sent a warning message to Nigerians over the dangers of illegal migration to European countries.

Awoniyi made the declaration on Monday during a courtesy visit to The Nation Newspaper Head Office in Lagos.

Awoniyi, who resides in Germany lamented the increasing death toll and personal tragedies that occur based on illegal migration alone. He stated that about 2500 people have died this year while crossing the Mediterranean sea.

“Migration is an act of humanity but young people fall prey to the promises of smugglers and people who take them through the desert to Libya in a bid to cross the Mediterranean.

“Just this year alone, 2500 people have died in numerous attempts to cross the Mediterranean or in transit countries like Libya, Chad and Northern African countries,” Awoniyi stated.

Awoniyi, who initiated a program to enlighten Nigerians on the danger of illegal migration in Europe, encouraged Nigerians to be well informed if they ever decide to migrate.

He warned that Migration is not the only way to self-actualisation and there are many opportunities to be considered at home before deciding to travel abroad.

Anti-corruption struggle is a long distance race – Sagay

Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Professor Itse Sagay has asserted that the struggle of riddling the country against corruption is a long process.
The distinguished professor of international repute maintained that since July 2015, the National Assembly has not passed a single bill for the promotion of the war against anti-corruption.
“Bills such as the ” Whistle Blowers Protection Bill,” “The Proceeds of Crime Bill,” and the “Special Criminal Court Bill” remain in a virtual state of stagnation,” Sagay stated.
Professor Itse Sagay also affirmed that there has been a gang up of powerful political, business and banking elite determined to frustrate the anti-corruption struggle.

However, the professor allayed all fears by stating that there is light at the end of the tunnel due to the recent recovery of assets and elimination of the petroleum subsidy scam of #382 billion which has been sufficiently saved for proper use for the sake of the citizenry.
He encouraged Nigerians to be a little patient with the present adminstration and applaud them for their work in the fight against corruption. He spoke of the administration of the Criminal Justice Act 2015, Non Conviction based Assets Recovery act and Recovery of property, special Provisions Act, 2004 that has been used to prosecute erring officials and citizens found guilty of corruption.

  • Review of Maleek Berry’s Been Calling

Review of Maleek Berry’s Been Calling

It seems Maleek Berry’s foray as a music producer with his favourite “Berry pon this” remark on other artistes songs have not been enough for the Eko Miami crooner this year.

The music producer has now joined the long cast of music singing producers with hits to his name and this year has been no different. Haven proven his credibility with numerous hits of songs from Eko Miami, down to popularly acclaimed Kontrol, Bend it, 4 me and recently, “Been calling.”

Maleek Berry has gradually registered himself as a musician and producer that must be reckoned with on Nigerian scene.

For music lovers that like the feel good house music with light felt instrumentals and decent lyrics, this is the song for you. Whether you are having a summer time on the beach or you are stuck in traffic listening to cool vibing on repeat.

The song which is a desperate call for a lady that has been avoiding her lover is a perfection of the best vocals and instrumentals with no noise at all in background. Unlike the usual trend of lousy lyrics and heavy mixture of beats that are usually characterized by Nigerian music jams.

The video clearly illustrates the desperation theme that the song echoes. And the use of virtual reality to signify desire, warmth, affection definitely perfect Been Calling as the perfect on screen visuals.

I will rate Maleek Berry’s “Been Calling” a 10/10 for one sole reason. Been Calling is a cool bar with no imperfections. The video as well as the audio was perfectly put together as a dose of good music, no obscenities, perfectly worded, cool and calmly collected.

Maleek should know that this a sign, a good sign to embrace the music aspect of his career and not stop at just producing beats for other artistes alone. The hardwork and patience has finally paid off. He should start making those beats for himself and release that album, now.

Maleek Berry should know that the future can’t wait.

  • Remembering Afrika 18 years later

    Remembering Afrika 18 years later

The memories of July 10, 1999 will never cease in the Obafemi Awolowo University memory. It will forever remain fresh as it is passed on from generation to generation while we commemorate tribute to the founding father of Great Ife Students Unionism for many reasons.

George Iwilade Afrika who was hacked to pieces by members of the Black Axe Confraternity in alliance with other neighbouring cult groups wasn’t just the only victim of the bloodshed.

Four other roommates (Eviano Ekelemu; a graduating student, Yemi Ajiteru; 100-Level Philosophy student, Babatunde Oke, and Ekpede Godfrey) were murdered in their sleep, as the group came for the then president of the Union, Lanre  Legacy.

Prof. Roger Makanjuola account is even more descriptive: “Tunde Oke was still alive but died in the surgical theatre. Four others, George Iwilade, Yemi Ajiteru, Efe Ekede and Eviano Ekelemu, were brought in dead. Eviano Ekelemu bled to death from gunshot wounds to the groin and thigh. The other three died from gunshot wounds to the head.”

Lanre Adeleke, (Lanre Legacy), the then Student Union President, was reported to have fled before his assailants unleashed terror in the early hours of the morning of July 10 though he was shot at. It is reported that he escaped by jumping from a balcony when the menacing cult groups came for him after murdering Iwilade in cold blood.

The product of that horrific past is the vibrant union Great Ife currently emboders. However, 18 years after this sorry tale, stability has continued to elude Great Ife, not just in policies alone but in the Union which was borne by concerted selfless leaders who fought for consciousness of the Union from the hands of cult groups encouraged by University Administrators as forceful enforcers of University policy on the great mass of poor students unable to dare the management.

Like Nigeria’s numerous problems, Great Ife has also had hers. Democracy can only be sustained in a pro-democratic ambience, but that vibrancy once associated with Ife has continued to waiver 18 years down the line. The school has had her recent share of events, with the current Union President accused of doctoring the Congresses of Great Ife Students, as well as engaging in white cement projects like the back and forth issue of the red student Union Bus. A bus that has been declared unfit for transportation (in one of its numerous reports) and fraudulent with all manner of accusations at the Doctor President, as well as attacks on his person and the divide and rule system; questions are bound to be asked.

Is OAU truly honouring Afrika’s legacy?

Still, of recent, former acting Vice Chancellor’s case, Prof. Anthony Elujoba has resurfaced for alleged fraud. Prof. Anthony Elujoba who has been christened thus ‘as the man of the people’ for granting prompt payments of owed arrears to staff and a stable academic calendar, is now hanging in a battle of morality and the humbling weights of the law.  The major product of unrest Great Ife has continually faced from the past tenure of Student Leadership Governments have always emanated from welfare. It is a shame that the once Great “Great Ife” is now riddled with bed bugs driving students from their hostel rooms to the corridors to sleep. While lecturers drive down difficult concepts down their throats in lecture theatres in the day, students battle rats, bedbugs, and dangerous reptiles in their halls at night.

The University compound has become a war zone where students are exploited, cheated by drivers of the campus shuttles, exorbitant prices of goods and services, dwindling factors of infrastructure, welfare and the moribund state of OAU healthcare delivery.

Still on July 10th every year, Students gather in their numbers to celebrate the birth of consciousness and failure of Student leaders. The Student Union is a pressure group, a successor of Modern Governments. If the Leader cannot be accountable for a 2.9 Million Naira bus which has been adjudged in many quarters of the students body not to be more than 2.5 Million naira, what then is the essence of a 9 Million Naira subvention that cannot be used to better lives of the Student masses and the electorate that brought those leaders into power?

“At 21, young and still very active, George Iwilade Afrika was murdered. He was murdered advocating for a cult free environment. One that all Great Ife Students enjoy today, till the end of their academic stay. Today, the freedom of combing the campus in the early hours of the day is uncontrolled, unrestricted because of one man who sacrificed his life for others to have peace.”

What legacies shall we then live behind for Afrika and the OAU 5 as we remember them 18 years down the line?

These are questions we must answer and unmask very fast. The death of consciousness is the rise of tyranny; for the commemorators and beneficiaries of these process must consider this questions and provide due answers.

  • Movie review: Fast and furious 8

Movie review: Fast and furious 8

Shot in exotic locations like Cuba, Moscow and New York, the eighth instalment of the Fast and Furious renamed the Fate of the Furious is definitely an exciting blockbuster to be viewed more than just once.
The movie which begins with a drag race in Cuba, where Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) emerges winner in other to save his mechanic cousin is more than enough thriller in the opening scene to sustain interest for regular on-screen action movie lover.
The movie, which has grossed over a billion dollars in other territories for a worldwide total of $1.231 billion, against a production budget of $250 million ($350 million, including marketing costs)  is Universal Pictures’ most ambitious worldwide distribution release in the studio’s history.
Packed with action in every scene, the Fate of the Furious is action-gripping as it is expected to make any audience jolt in their seats with new stunts, replacing the main action of cars jumping out of planes in Fast Seven.
Based on two major plots of both family and betrayal, the movie gets a much bigger twist when Dominic Toretto is recruited by Charlize Theron (Cipher) to turn his back on his most loved asset, his family and save his unknown son conceived out of unknown circumstances.
This is when the movie moves from the usual car heists to spy capers, fist fights, heavy rapid gunfire cum explosion of submarines.
The duo team up of rival enemies to becoming friends (Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson) orchestrated perfectly by Mr Nobody and his little protégé wasn’t more of a shocker than it would already be with Vin Diesel’s new team-up with movie villain and widely respected hacker, Charlize Theron.
Even though Game of Thrones is expected to premiere mid-July, the captivating appearance of Nathalie Emmanuel returning as computer whiz Ramsey, and her “Game of Thrones” co-star, Kristofer Hivju (Rhodes) joining the cast as Cipher’s enforcer,  served as a welcome surprise.
The Movie which is without Paul Walker or a replacement of his character by his brother came with its own share of obvious disappointments too.
The Fast 8 is filled with only fast paced action and watery dialogue without any worthy conversation attached to the hype.
Not to mention the linear plot attached to the movie. It isn’t episodic; it is just plain and strategic from one action to the next: Cipher recruits Dom, Dom turns on his family and family takes him back. Not much intriguing action for an average movie lover.
Most principal characters’ roles only revolve majorly in creating action buildups rather than actually passing a perfectly orchestrated thematic message. Fast 8 refuses to live up to its billion dollar revenue Return on Investment by creating little or no suspense as we already know what is going to happen in the end.
Fast and Furious 8 is no different from a casual family betrayal plot and reunion come back; the only difference, in this case, was lacing the action with the advancement of technology (God’s eye) and nuclear nukes, one technique that has now become an overused cliché in movies emanating from the United States.
Present day American movies aren’t without the villain attempting to steal nukes these days. And that is exactly where the Fate of the Furious fell short of its billion dollar gross. Hence, making each action very predictable.
Like every tragicomedy would end; the Fate of the Furious which initially hung in the balance closes with a reunion after the death of Elena Neves, who looked even more beautiful as she was gunned down to death by Cipher’s right hand man, Rhodes.
  • Reviewing D’Banj’s ‘It’s Not A Lie’

    Reviewing D’Banj’s ‘It’s Not A Lie’

    • ft. Wande Coal and Harrysong [New Song]

Why many people see the new single by Eja Nla as a grand entry to silence his numerous critics; D’Banj’s musical prowess might be dwindling or be on a rocket down decline. His opening verse almost cost the Afrocentric percussion of this song and the lovely hook of Harry Songs, the reggae blues crooner.

It’s Not A Lie could have well been interpreted as an endorsement song, or a beg for endorsement. With Harry songs continual hook of “Everybody Google DBanj,” you might want to check his network whether his cash flow has begun to depreciate slowly.

If I were the Producer, I would cut D’Banj’s opening verse out of the song and beg him to sing only the chorus like DJ Spinall ft Eazi on “Ohema” or DJ Khaled and co. on “I’m the one.”

I feel D’Banj’s self-acclaimed nickname as an entertainer should be passed on to Harry songs. Baba should go and retire.

Great vocals but if not for the earlier comments saying the song is worth listening to while surfing the net, I wouldn’t have listened beyond the first few seconds. Harry is a song saver, Wande tried but I agree that Harry killed it…softly.

Take this as an aside, Wande Coal’s cool punch line further amplifies the fear that D’Banj’s reason for singing this song may just be for the fund and a comeback to lost form.

“They say the money burn, but na we burn am o!”

The money might just be imagery for dwindling networths, hopefully, they have been able to raise investors with this song!

The future of Nigerian music is actually in shambles. Not saying there isn’t good music flowing around but there is more obscenity served, as well as heavy bragging, and overt commercialization of the feminine body parts.

I will rate “It’s Not A Lie” a 6/10. It could have done better if D’Banj wasn’t there, or if he sang the chorus with his harmonica. It could have gotten an 8. Since the beat is Afrocentric danceable pop; it wins the spot on my playlist for this week.

Till then, D’Banj should work on his vocals and plan a bigger comeback to Nigeria’s entertainment scene.
