  • Migration is ordained by God- Olusegun Obasanjo

Ex- President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has stated that migration is an act ordained by God.

He expressed this statement at the maiden edition of the Youth Migration Summit tagged “Curbing Youth Irregular Migration” which held at Olusegun Obasanjo Public Library (OOPL) on Saturday in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Reacting to the stories of seven Libyan returnees at a panel sessions which he led, he said that their experiences were very unpleasant and hazardous.

“The lesson is, it is not the way to go. I was in Italy, four weeks ago and the ambassador told me there were 1,600 youths in Italian prisons. I asked to see them but I could not.” The Former President said.

Obasanjo who is also the chief promoter of the Olusegun Obasanjo Public Library (OOPL) explained the need to prevent youths from taking the risks on illegal migration.

Migration is not something we should stop,” he said. “It has led to development and civilisation. We are all migrants. It only depends on how far back we want to be. Migrants are not refugees or bad people. Einstein was a migrant, having migrated to a land of opportunity.”

However he emphasized the need for illegal Migration to stop.

“We have to do what we had to do at home for us to prevent you from the type of risk you are taking. All of you from your diverse stories felt it will be better. There is no better thing in what you did, it is death and danger. It is either death, deformity, pain stress and anguish.

“The solution is not the way out. Even as bad as things may be at home, things are still better than what you go through. Migration is ordained by God. God told Abraham to leave your home and go. One of the greatest Migration is the movement of the children of Israel to the promise land.”

“I honestly don’t plan on changing too much but people want a little bit more drama. I think I know now what the people are expecting from me.”

She also acknowledged that Miracle and Tobi are her best friends, she hinted that something could grow out of it, however she will not break any couple’s relationship up.

“Miracle and Tobi are like my best friends in the house. I don’t plan on breaking couples up but if anyone comes in my way, I will give them right back.”

  • They put shampoo in our private parts – Libyan returnee

It was a touchy revelation session on Saturday when about seven Libyan returnees gave an account of their experiences on the agonizing trip to Libya in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The session  was led by Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo in a dialogue between seven Libyan returnees and himself at the maiden Youth Migration Summit themed “Curbing Youth Irregular Migration.”
Ubong Rosemary, mother of four shared her story.
“I am a native of Delta. I was living in Lagos before I lost my husband in an car crash. After I lost him; things became very hard for me and my children. I could not pay house rent or school fees for my children, so my children dropped out and I went back to help my mother who was a food vendor in the village in her one room apartment . We had a lot issues and quarreled. She had an accident and at point could not cook.
“I decided to go somewhere far because I could not provide for my kids. I wanted to go far from my predicament and met a lady who introduced me to a Madam. On the way to Libya; I lost my way and contact. They were just carrying me with the people- I was like somebody lost. I didn’t know where I was going.
“I made it to Sabat and saw our fellow men and women selling women into prostitution. I was sold in Tripoli and not Sabat. I was not able to pay the cross money over the Mediterranean. They sold me to connection house. Someone else bought me.”
“We were there for days until they pushed three boats into the Mediterranean. I saw two boats capsized before my very own eyes. Someone kidnapped us and jailed us.
“I was about to be killed as it was the very day I was to be killed that IOM raided us and saved us from death.
“What they did to us was very bad. The use sponge along with harmful chemicals like shampoo to clean the private parts of women. They push it into the women’s wombs and the wombs fall out, after that, they will put the womb back in again and urge women to continue to sleep with the men there.”
Rosemary momentarily broke down in uncontrollable tears and was  comforted by Obasanjo who urged her to continue to tell her story.
She finally said that she could not forgive herself for abandoning her four children with her mother who was still alive and taking care of them in Edo state.
“I haven’t seen my children, except for just once.”

He urged participants at the conference to not go easy on illegal migration, saying it was up to the international community to address the problem in the North African country.

He expressed fears that Libya would soon become abode for Islamic State militants.

  • Music Review: FaceTime

Facetime is that song you can enjoy stuck in the traffic, stuck in the bathroom shower or on the road just taking in good vibes.

LottoBoyzz’s FaceTime is a song that is going to give lead vocalists a run for their money. Even WizKid’s and Tiwa’s vocals should be warned. These two fellas got bars.

While people would rather WhatsApp or use Facebook Messenger, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat; Lottoboyzz would rather prefer a Face time.

FaceTime is an app that shares the same features as IMO or WhatsApp visual features in connecting with your partner. It is purely FaceTime where you communicate through video and instead of clacking fingers via keypads; FaceTime is a persuasive call to a lover to just have a Face time than wallowing in the business of exchanging wack emojis.

Which obviously betrays one’s true feelings.

In a world where fake responses occur via chat; FaceTime is a way to test the true strength of love’s resolve.

Hence the first line: “And I don’t really like typing, Babe just FaceTime me.”

The features of FaceTime require you registering undiluted attention to the person in the visual conversation and as such, the song begs the lover to leave other guys on WhatsApp and spend quality time with him, asking her how she got the perfect body curves.

It doesn’t just stop there; this smitten lover wants more than just company, he wants to spice up the game by eventually hanging out with his lover.

Weird innit? Africans don’t do FaceTime.

But this guy has already laid down his criteria. He obviously wants to use the FaceTime to check how curvy the lady on the other side is. If she is not thick enough or her curves are not real enough, they wouldn’t hang out or go on a date.

Isn’t that why he wants to ask how she got her bum fat?

What is spectacular about FaceTime is LottoBoyzz ingenuity in registering a theme we are familiar with. Other artistes sing songs praising female attributes openly but LottoBoyzz do this seamlessly with several metaphors hidden in the lyrics and feel good instrumentals to accompany the beat.

FaceTime is sweet yet sublime with several puns and vague expressions oozing out with a very well delivered lyric. If you don’t like this song from the first word till the end; you definitely are a rock that doesn’t want to be moved.

I will rate FaceTime a 9/10. It is a song for all seasons and it says the same thing differently. Nigerian Music has continued to have song clichés; you can easily predict how a song like this would do in the hands of popular A list artistes with loads of several vulgar characteristics to describe the body of a woman. FaceTime says this in mild terms with a video that is just fine.

LottoBoyzz would go far in the Nigerian Music scene with songs well laid out like this.

  • PIND to enlighten public on safe water practices

The Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta ( PIND ), will on March 22nd, host a public enlightenment event
on issues and solutions to safe and sustainable water practices.

This event will be held at at the Township School, Ovom, Yenagoa to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the World Water Day in partnership with the Rotary Club of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State and P&G International.

The importance of the event is to educate the local community and government stakeholders in the Niger Delta and inspire action in adoption of practices and models that meets the globally accepted standards for sustainable access to water.

PIND’s Knowledge and Communications Manager, Chichi Nnoham-Onyejekwe said the event, which will be attended by over 100 students and teachers from the local community, Rotary Clubs, Bayelsa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Bayelsa State Government, and other development partners, will create public awareness on the nexus between water, livelihoods and the resources for growth and development in the Delta, as well as showcase some locally appropriate and readily available technologies for making water safe for use at the household and community level.

’’Access to good water management practices are huge issues in the Niger Delta. This contributes to very high water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) related disease burden with its attendant health and economic impacts.

“Better WASH practices and facilities would help reduce the disease burden and ultimately improve productivity in the region,’’ Nnoham-Onyejekwe said.

Nnoham-Onyejekwe went further to explain that the public awareness event which derives its 2018 theme from the World Water Day tagged ‘Nature of Water’ will feature presentations on the need for behaviour change as a means of protecting water resources in the Niger Delta, and share insights on what PIND and its partners have learnt from implementing nature-based solutions on access to sustainable water interventions that could be replicated and scaled up by more stakeholders.

This would be followed by a robust reflection session on the ‘Nature of Water’ and a demonstration of simple water purifying technologies for students and teachers who play a critical role as change agents for the wider community.

  • Beware of fake watch carriers

I am currently a fake wrist watch carrier. This is my personal confession on the path to restitution.

I know you are all smiles now probably wondering what I mean by being a “fake watch carrier.”

A fake watch carrier is one who wears a watch that doesn’t work. Now this watch that never works can never ever work.

You heard me clear. It can never work! And for some of us, the watch used to work before but since it is too fashionable, like mine, it is too hard to throw away.

While for some others the watch has stopped working ages ago. But slay queens must pepper them and men must show their swag. So, what do we do?

We wear fake watches that never tells the time.

Don’t blame us. You know I said this was a confession. I am changing slowly, so I publicly restitute with this testament.

If you are a fake watch carrier just say “Oh, yeah!”

One day I was quietly embarrassed by the fake watch. Many times, I cradle my phone, so when someone asks for time from my watch, I just use my phone and tell the time.

On this very day, I was running late and I got into this three vehicular machine we all use. Three minutes down the line and someone was gesticulating to my fake watch.

Apparently, he went thus: “Sir, he nodded with respect, ” What is the time?”

I quickly spun out my phone and told him. He wasn’t too convinced and looked at me wondering why I had to stress myself. Reaching for my phone was now stress, in his mind.

He stared at me for awhile and the beautiful lady who might have laughed at me in her mind.

I was sad, I knew I was ousted. But how can I stop wearing this favourite watch of mine?

It has this silver lining that is responsible for its beautiful glitters. I love it and I am too lazy to repair it.

Too much workload and stuff to worry about.

But sadly, I wear this watch all about Lagos.

Are you a fake watch carrier? Tell us in the comment box!

    I will be waiting.
