    Gunmen kill two officers inside Kaduna police station

    Gunmen on Friday evening attacked a police station in Zonkwa, headquarters of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing at least two officers.

    The incident, which occurred around 8 pm, threw the usually quiet town into confusion as residents scampered for safety amid heavy gunfire.

    Eyewitnesses said the assailants stormed the police station, located a few metres from Kamyim Hotel in Kurmin-Bi area of Zonkwa and opened fire on arrival.

    It was learnt that the attackers were attempting to free some suspected vandals arrested in Kachia town, believing they were being held at the Zonkwa Police Station.

    A resident, who pleaded anonymity, said: “They came shooting sporadically. It was later discovered that the suspects they came for were not even detained in Zonkwa. But before that became clear, damage had already been done.”

    A security source confirmed the attack but declined to give details, saying investigations were ongoing.

    In a video sighted by The Nation, two police officers were seen lying motionless in uniform, while a crowd gathered around the scene discussing the assault.

    The attack, residents said, has heightened fears over the deteriorating security situation in the area, despite recent peace efforts by authorities.

    Security operatives were later deployed to restore calm in the town.

    As of press time, the Kaduna Police Command was yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

    Kaduna State Police Command has busted another kidnapping syndicate, arresting six suspects and recovering two AK-47 rifles along with three fabricated versions in two separate operations.

    Spokesman of the Command, DSP Mansir Hassan, in a statement on Friday, said the first operation followed a distress report received on February 22, 2025, from a resident of Ungwan Ninzom, Jagindi Tasha in Jema’a Local Government Area, whose son, Hussaini Ibrahim, was abducted by gunmen.

    He said, “Police operatives were swiftly mobilized to the scene but the kidnappers initially escaped. However, on February 24, the victim was rescued from a bush, nursing a gunshot wound inflicted by his abductors. He was rushed to a nearby clinic and later reunited with his family.

    “Four suspects were subsequently arrested in connection with the kidnapping. They are: Umar Yusuf Jabiri (30), Buhari Muhammad alias “General” (31), Ahmadu Nasiru (51), and Zakari Saleh (50), all residents of Jagindi Tasha, Bayya village, and Gidan Waya respectively.

    “The police recovered one English-type AK-47 rifle and three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles from the suspects. Investigations are ongoing to arrest other accomplices before the suspects are arraigned in court.

    “In a separate operation on July 23, 2025, detectives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, led by CSP Sani Zuntu, intercepted a suspicious consignment in Kaduna. Acting on intelligence, they discovered a fabricated AK-47 rifle hidden inside a sack transported from Jos to Gusau, Zamfara State.

    “Two suspects, Abdulmumin Sani and Naziru Musa, were arrested in Gusau as they arrived to receive the illegal firearm. They are currently in custody and will be charged to court after investigations,” he said

    DSP Hassan added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, praised the operatives for their professionalism and assured the public that Kaduna remains unsafe for criminals.

    “He also appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for his continued support to the command.”

    Operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command have neutralised two armed robbers and arrested two others in a fierce midnight shootout following a robbery incident at Gashash Estate in Barnawa.

    The armed gang, numbering about eight, stormed the estate in the early hours of yesterday, dispossessing residents of valuables including mobile phones, laptops, gaming consoles, wristwatches, and jewelry.

    The attack, which occurred around 3:10am, triggered a swift response from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Barnawa Division, who quickly mobilised patrol teams with reinforcement from DPOs of Kakuri and Sabon Tasha, as well as soldiers from the 312 Artillery Regiment, Kalapanzi.

    The Police spokesman, DSP Mansir Hassan, said the joint security team pursued the hoodlums and intercepted them along Makera Main Road in Kakuri, where the gang opened fire in a desperate bid to escape.

    He said: “A fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the death of two robbers, while two others were overpowered and arrested. The police recovered a locally made pistol, live ammunition, and an assortment of dangerous weapons from the suspects.

    “Further investigations led to the recovery of seven mobile phones, three wristwatches, two laptops, two PlayStation gaming consoles, and assorted jewelry—believed to have been stolen from the Gashash Estate victims,” he said.

    DSP Hassan, however, said that, one Police officer sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter and is currently receiving treatment at the Police Clinic, but said efforts were ongoing to track down the remaining gang members who fled the scene during the gunfight.

    Commissioner of Police (CP), Rabiu Muhammad, lauded the gallantry and swift coordination between the police, military, and other security agencies including the Department of State Services (DSS).

    He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order and called on Kaduna residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in their communities.

    Kaduna Police recover stolen vehicles, detain eight suspects

    Police Command in Kaduna State has recovered stolen vehicles and detained eight suspects.

    Its spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police Mansir Hassan, said this in a statement yesterday said about 2pm on April 24, the command received a report that a victim of an earlier armed robbery incident had sighted and followed his stolen vehicle, a Peugeot (Fiat).

    He said the vehicle was snatched at gunpoint on the Lokoja-Abuja Expressway last December 17, with N3.25 million.

     He said the Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit led a team to Kujama, where two suspects were arrested in possession of the said vehicle

    He identified the suspects as Christian Allemo and Uchenna Ike, residents of Kujama.

    He added that the suspects claimed they bought the vehicle.

    The suspects, and the recovered vehicle, are in police custody.

    Also, Hassan said the command received a call about 9:20 p.m, from the Control Room alerting officers to a stolen Mitsubishi Hilux, reportedly taken from Abuja and heading for Kawo.

    The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kawo deployed surveillance and patrol teams to intercept the vehicle.

    “Through strategic coordination, the officers blocked Unguwan Gwari, leading to the recovery of the stolen vehicle,” he said.

    “The suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled.

    Hassan added that the command also about 2:30pm on April 12 received a report from a good ‘samaritan’ from Dangote Company.

    He said the ‘samaritan’ reported that a truck loaded with 900 bags of cement departed Dangote Cement Plant, Obajana, on April 6, en route to Maiduguri.

    He said the truck had not been seen since departure, while the driver’s phone number had been switched off.

    “Following an intensive search, the missing truck was located in a garage at Maraban, Jos.

    The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) led a team of policemen to the location, where one Abdulfatai Abubakar was arrested, who confessed to having purchased the said truck from one Aliyu Abdulrahman (also known as Dan’Ali) at Anguwan Muazu.

    He said five suspects were arrested while another stolen Dangote truck was recovered.

    “The suspects and the recovered exhibits are currently in police custody as investigations continue,” he said.

    The spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, commended the officers for the good work.

    He assured the public that the command would continue to intensify visibility policing and clampdown on miscreants.

    The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested 580 suspects for various crimes, including kidnapping, armed robbery, phone snatching, and theft.

    The State’s Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists on the Command’s recent achievements.

    According to him, the arrests were made between December 31, 2024, and February 10, 2025, through intelligence-driven operations and collaboration with other security agencies.

    Among those arrested are 20 suspected kidnappers, 32 armed robbery suspects, 320 phone snatchers, and five car thieves. The police also rescued 30 kidnapped victims who have since been reunited with their families.

    The Command also recovered several stolen items, including 34 motorcycles, 10 motor vehicles, and four AK-47 rifles. Other items recovered include a submachine gun, two pistols, 28 rounds of live ammunition, and 20 bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

    Parading the suspects, the new Commissioner of Police highlighted some of the key operations that led to the arrests.

    According to him, “In one incident, two suspected informants, Inusa Ibrahim and Hamisu Musa, were arrested in Kangimin Gobirawa Village for allegedly providing bandits with names of potential kidnapping targets. The suspects, aged 18, were caught making calls to suspected bandits and have since confessed to the crime.

    “Similarly, two notorious motorcycle thieves, Ibrahim Abubakar and Surakatu Usman, were apprehended in the Mando area. The duo allegedly attacked victims with sledgehammers or strangled them with cable wires before making away with their motorcycles. Their receiver, Yahya Muhammad, was also arrested, and five stolen motorcycles were recovered,” the Commissioner stated.

    He added, “In another operation, police arrested two notorious criminal receivers, Ibrahim Nura and Musa Abdullahi, in Rigasa. A total of 16 motorcycles and three tricycles were recovered from them. The suspects confessed to working with a syndicate that steals motorcycles and tricycles for resale.

    “The command also nabbed a notorious car thief, Abubakar, at a hotel in Mando. A stolen Toyota Yaris, taken from Kano, was recovered from him. The suspect, who has a history of car theft and multiple prison stints, is currently in custody.

    “On February 2, 2025, security operatives, acting on intelligence, engaged a gang of armed bandits attempting to relocate kidnapped victims in Kajuru Local Government Area. The bandits were forced to flee, leading to the rescue of 23 kidnapped victims.”

    Rabiu however reiterated the police’s commitment to making Kaduna unsafe for criminals. He urged residents to provide credible information to security agencies, emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility.

    He also commended Governor Uba Sani for his continued support to the police command, pledging to sustain efforts in tackling crime in the state.

    • 58 kidnap victims freed in Kaduna

    The Kaduna State Police Command, through its Operation Fushin Kada, has arrested six kidnappers, a cattle rustler and five suspects involved in vandalism.

    The operations also led to the recovery of a locally made firearm and charms.

    A statement issued by the Command’s PPRO, ASP Mansir Hassan, said on November 12, 2024, four members of a kidnapping syndicate were apprehended in Rahama and Dutsen Wai village, and nearby areas.

    “The suspects, Yahaya Abdullahi, Shamsu Ibrahim, Linus Obasi and Hauwa Mohammed, all from Dutsen Wai Village in Kubau LGA, were arrested.

    “Abdullahi confessed to conspiring with Ibrahim to kidnap a woman from Rahama Village, who was held in Obasi’s brothel under Mohammed’s watch until a ₦3 million ransom was paid for her release,” the PPRO added.

    The police spokesman also stated that in a separate operation on November 6, 2024, officers in Ikara LGA arrested two members of a gang that had been terrorising residents. 

    According to him, “the suspects, Surajo Hassan and Abdulhadir Usman, admitted to multiple kidnappings and robberies, including one case where a victim was held for 60 days before an ₦8 million ransom was paid.

    “Both suspects disclosed receiving ₦1 million each as their share.

    “On November 13, 2024, officers arrested a 27-year-old cattle rustler, Audu Abdullahi, in Kujama.

    “He confessed to belonging to a syndicate operating with AK-47 rifles and other weapons.

    “A search in a nearby bush led to the recovery of a locally made firearm and charms.

    “Meanwhile, officers responding to a distress call from the Kaduna State Vigilance Service at the Trade Fair Complex arrested three suspects—Salisu Mohammed, Mohammed Abubakar, and Aliyu Isah—caught vandalising armored cable wires.

    “They confessed to the crime and named Abubakar Garba and Isiaku Abdullahi, who were also arrested, as receivers.”

    Meanwhile, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, yesterday handed over 58 people rescued during joint security operations to the Kaduna State Government.

    The victims were presented by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, to the Kaduna State Chief of Staff, Sani Limankila, who represented the state governor during the ceremony.

    Gen. Musa emphasised that no ransom was paid for their release.

    “This rescue was achieved through the combined efforts of the military and other security agencies,” Musa said, adding that “the operation utilised both kinetic and non-kinetic methods, underscoring the need for collective effort; not just military actions.”

    He highlighted the importance of collaboration at all levels, from the presidency and the Office of the National Security Adviser to the Ministry of Defence and the Kaduna State Government.

     According to him, it was such synergy that enabled the successful rescue of the victims.

    Musa reiterated that every Nigerian has a role to play in ensuring security, saying “if we do not work together, it will be extremely difficult to succeed. It’s a whole-of-society approach.”

    He also warned against sabotage by individuals attempting to undermine government efforts, stressing that security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of all Nigerians.

    “Many of us have sacrificed weekends and holidays, working day and night to achieve these successes.

    “We assure Nigerians that we will continue until every captive is freed and every Nigerian can move freely across the country,” Musa said.

    The CDS noted that some individuals involved in banditry were forced into it, but the military remains determined to hold perpetrators accountable for their crimes.

    The National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Maj.-Gen. Adamu Laka, provided details about the victims.

    He said they were kidnapped from Gayam, Sabon Layi, and Kwaga villages in Dan Musa council area of Katsina State.

    Laka revealed that the joint operation, conducted by troops of 1 Division on November 14, led to their rescue.

    The victims included 35 males and 23 females.

    “Preliminary investigations revealed that they were kidnapped by armed bandits under the command of a notorious criminal known as Janbros.

    “The victims were forced to trek hundreds of kilometers through the Birnin Gwari forest”, Laka said.

    He added that following their rescue, the victims received medical care and necessary assistance to stabilise them, explaining that six victims who required hospitalization had now recovered and were reunited with the others for the handover.

    The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a notorious gunrunner and seized 20 locally fabricated AK-47 rifles near Buruku Bridge in Igabi Local Government Area.

    The Command’s PPRO, ASP Mansir Hassan, in a statement said the arrest occurred around 4:00 pm when officers from the Buruku Division were conducting routine patrol near Buruku Bridge.

    “Upon stopping a black Golf III saloon vehicle, police conducted a thorough search and found the rifles hidden in the booth, along with an empty Type 06 magazine.

    “The suspect, identified as Bitrus Gyang, hails from Barkin Ladi, Plateau State,” ASP Hassan stated.

    The PPRO further explained that during questioning, Gyang admitted to his involvement in gunrunning and disclosed that he had previously transported fabricated rifles on at least three occasions.

    “He is currently cooperating with the police as investigations continue to identify his accomplices.

    “Commissioner of Police Audu Ali Dabigi commended the officers for their diligence and commitment to duty.

    “He assured the public that the police will continue to intensify efforts against kidnappers and bandits throughout the state, ensuring they face relentless pressure,” the PPRO added.

    Kaduna Police arrest 11 suspected kidnappers, recover arms, cash

    The Kaduna Police Command has arrested 11 suspected kidnappers and recovered a cache of arms, ammunition, and a cash sum of N908,600, following a directive from the Commissioner of Police to intensify efforts against bandits across the state.

    A statement by the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Mansir Hassan, said the arrests were linked to the abduction of a district head on August 14, 2024, who was released two days later.

    ASP Hassan said operatives from Saminaka, in collaboration with local hunters, raided three villages in Lere Local Government Area—Maraban Wasa, Gurzan Hakimi Mariri, and Abugan Kurama—on September 2. Five suspects, including Abdulhamid Abubakar (30), Danjuma Luka (25), Ayuba Simon (50), and Idi Saleh (57), were arrested.

    Items recovered from the suspects include one fabricated single-barrel gun, a green Golf vehicle, a Bajaj motorcycle, and eight mobile phones.

    He added that in  a separate operation on the same day, police laid an ambush at a motor park, intercepting a consignment containing four fabricated AK-47 rifles. Six suspects whom are Lawal Murtala, Isa Kabiru, Auwal Surajo, Kamala Lawal, Umar Adamu, and Kabiru Lima were arrested.

    He, however, stated that  recovered items from the operation included four fabricated AK-47 rifles, two pump-action guns, two English pistols, 24 cartridges, 29 rounds of live ammunition, assorted charms, a walkie-talkie, an axe, and N908,600 in cash.

    He went on; “On September 3, police operatives arrested a suspected bandit, Yahaya Yusuf (41), at a hotel in the Tafa area of Kagarko Local Government Area. Yusuf confessed to involvement in cattle rustling and kidnapping in Niger and Kaduna states. A Tecno phone was recovered from him.

    “The Commissioner of Police urged the public to continue cooperating with security forces, assuring that efforts to clamp down on criminal activities in the state would be intensified,”the PPRO assured.

    The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested two cattle rustlers, two notorious gunrunners, and foiled a kidnapping attempt in separate operations across the state.

    In a statement, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, said the arrests were made following a raid on a hideout in Kasuwa Magani, Kujama last Thursday.

    The operatives, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended two suspects, Aminu Saleh (25) and Jafar Ibrahim (24), who confessed to their involvement in cattle rustling. The suspects also said four members of their syndicate were still at large.

    On the same day, the Command’s Tracking and Response Team intercepted a kidnapping attempt following a report by Shafiu Abdullahi, who had received threatening calls demanding a ransom of N10 million. The police arrested three suspects, Umar Baso, Shehu Filani, and Babangida Abdulkarim, all residents of Soba and Kajuru LGAs. The suspects have since confessed to their crime.
