    Kaduna Police arrest 35 suspected phone snatchers

    Kaduna Police Command’s Anti-Vice Section has conducted targeted raids and arrested 35 suspected phone snatchers.

    The raid was conducted as a response to the recent rise in crime, particularly phone snatching.

    Among the arrested suspects are two female and 33 males it, all of whom have been charged to court. 

    The Command’s PPRO, ASP Mansir Hassan said the operation, carried out between 19:00 and 23:45 hours, was in strict compliance with directives from the Commissioner of Police.

    According to ASP Hassan: “The raids focused on identified black spots within the metropolitan area of Kaduna, resulting in the arrest of 35 suspects, including two females.

    “The suspects were found in possession of dangerous weapons, Indian hemp, and other illicit drugs. All those arrested have been charged to Court after the completion of preliminary investigations.

    “The Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Ali Dabigi psc, has assured the public that those found culpable will be profiled and charged in a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution. He further emphasized the command’s commitment to clamping down on criminal activities within the state.”

    The Kaduna State Police Command has apprehended one Abdulazeez Idris for the alleged abduction and murder of a six-year-old girl, Aisha Saidu in Zaria, Kaduna State.

    Idris, said to be a cousin brother to the victim was apprehended by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, (SCID) Kaduna.

    The state police command’s spokesman, ASP Mansir Hassan made this known in a press statement on Sunday, May 12.

    The PPRO said: “Aisha Saidu, a resident of Angwan Juma’a, Zaria, went missing on her way to Islamiyya School on February 12, 2024. Her father, Saidu Dahiru, reported her disappearance to the Zaria City police station, suspecting foul play by her cousin’s brother, Abdulazeez Idris.

    “The investigation took a grim turn when Abdulazeez was traced and arrested in Makarfi Local Government. He confessed to the heinous crime, admitting to abducting Aisha and brutally murdering her by slashing her neck with a razor blade. Abdulazeez then callously disposed of her lifeless body in a nearby well.”

    He stated that following the girl’s disappearance, Dahiru received a phone call from an unknown individual, later identified as the perpetrator, demanding a ransom of ₦8,000,000 (eight million naira) for her safe return.

    “The case was transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of SCID Kaduna, where they traced and arrested the perpetrator, identified as Abdulazeez Idris, in Makarfi Local Government. The suspect confessed to the heinous crime, admitting to slaying the innocent child by brutally slashing her neck with a razor blade on the account that she recognized him and then went on to dispose of her lifeless body in a well.

    “The Commissioner of Police CP AUDU ALI DABIGI PSC assures members of the public that the case is going to be diligently investigated to ensure that justice is served for Aisha Saidu and her grieving family. The suspect will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is completed,” Hassan assured.

    Police arrest gunrunners in Kaduna

    Men of the Kaduna State Police Command have arrested two suspected gunrunners allegedly supplying bandits with firearms in parts of Kaduna and Plateau states.

    The suspects – Alkali Danladi and Gayya Koddi, were arrested with six guns, including one fabricated AK-47 rifle, five fabricated revolver rifles, and two fabricated pistols.

    A statement by the spokesperson, Mansir Hassan, said Danladi was arrested at Tsurutawa Village along the Kaduna-Jos Highway on his way from Jos.

    The statement reads: “About 0600hrs on April 4, police operatives acting on credible intelligence intercepted one Alkali Danladi (45) of Ungwan Hayatu Village, Yarkasuwa, Lere council, on the Kaduna-Jos Highway, for suspected illegal supply of firearms to bandits. He was arrested while returning from Jos, Plateau State.

    “During the interception, Danladi was found to have concealed several prohibited firearms, including one fabricated AK-47 rifle, five fabricated revolver rifles, and two fabricated pistols. Working tools such as fliers, screwdrivers, and spanners, as well as charms, were discovered in his possession.

    “Further investigation led to the arrest of one Gayya Koddi (40), of Bundu Dingi Village. Two suspects are however still at large. Efforts are on to arrest the remaining culprits.”
