    He’s a joker, says Kashamu

THE Senator representing Ogun East, Buruji Kashamu, yesterday took a swipe at the 2019 presidential bid of Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, describing the governor as a joker.

Kashamu also described Fayose as the number one destroyer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The lawmaker, who reacted to Fayose’s presidential campaign bid in Abuja, noted that the governor was only showing Nigerians how unreliable he was.

He described as a huge joke Fayose’s presidential ambition, insisting: “I tell you Fayose is not bidding for any presidential position come 2019.”

Kashamu said: “He is a confusionist and number one destroyer of the party because how on earth would somebody who agreed with other party chieftains that the presidential ticket of the party for 2019 should be zoned to the North, now turn around to start campaigning for the same ticket as a Southerner and particularly as a South-westerner to the detriment of the National Chairmanship ticket of the party already zoned to the area.

“Lovers of our great party and politically-minded Nigerians generally should by this action of Fayose see him as the number one destroyer of the party and the most cantankerous politician in the polity, who can at any time abuse anybody and go against agreed plans at any time.

“I believe that am not the only one disturbed by Fayose’s agbero brand of politics but all political stakeholders in the land, including those who followed him from Ekiti to grace his campaign launch because everybody knows that he is going nowhere come 2019, but just exercising his right in a funny way as a joker.”

Kashamu slammed the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) under the leadership of Senator Ahmed Makarfi for allegedly issuing him query unreasonably.

The lawmaker wondered why he was accused of instigating crisis in the Ogun State chapter of the party when he was in Abuja as a senator representing the good people of Ogun East.

He claimed that the query, which has been responded to, has no substance but a pure mischief and a product of malice.

Makarfi, Kashamu trade words over expulsion threat

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has accused the senator representing Ogun East senatorial district, Buruji Kashamu, of fueling the crisis in the Ogun State chapter of the party.

“We have constituted caretaker committees in seven states and all of them are working well. The crisis in only in Ogun chapter and it seems he (Kashamu) is the one fueling it,” Makarfi said at the party’s secretariat while inaugurating the party’s caretaker committees for Osun and Adamawa states.

Mr. Ishola Sarafadeen was appointed the caretaker committee chairman for Osun, while Alhaji Mohamned Imam emerged as caretaker committee chairman for the Adamawa chapter.

The party chairman said: “From now on, going to court on party matters will be seriously resisted by the leadership.

“Anybody caught doing this or fueling unnecessary crisis in the party will be severely dealt with in line with the constitution of the party.”

But, Kashamu urged Makarfi to stop threatening him with expulsion from the party.

Kashamu, in a statement last night, said he has done nothing to warrant being expelled from the party.

He said: “It is empirical truth that these court judgments existed before your appointment as the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of our great party. Also, it is on record that the affected party has written multiple letters to you explaining the facts of the case in anticipation of your being equitable and just. These people have also been writing to the police for necessary protection to prevent any negative decision you might take that could result into anarchy and breakdown of law and order.

“Unfortunately, you chose to be partisan and unfair to them by dissolving the validly constituted state exco against subsisting judgments and constituted a one-sided caretaker committee populated by 100% of their adversaries – in favour of OGD.”

Kashamu to Makarfi: Stop threatening me with expulsion

The senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Buruji Kashamu, has urged the Chairman, National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ahmed Makarfi, to stop threatening him with expulsion from the party.

Kashamu, in a statement on Wednesday night, said he has done nothing to warrant being expelled from the party.

He said: “Reference to comments credited to you while inaugurating the caretaker committees for Osun and Adamawa States where you accused me of fueling those who, in defence of their infringed rights, instituted court cases in Ogun State against the party. I am surprised that given your status and particularly the temporary nature of your present position; you are compounding issues instead of being forthright to solve the problems.

“If you refuse along with your caretaker committee members to do justice by inviting the two sides of a conflict to objectively analyse contending matters ostensibly to find mutually acceptable solution, how can that become my fault?

“It is empirical truth that these court judgments existed before your appointment as the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of our great party. Also, it is on record that the affected party has written multiple letters to you explaining the facts of the case in anticipation of your being equitable and just. These people have also been writing to the police for necessary protection to prevent any negative decision you might take that could result into anarchy and breakdown of law and order.

“Unfortunately, you chose to be partisan and unfair to them by dissolving the validly constituted state executive against subsisting judgments and constituted a one-sided caretaker committee populated by 100 per cent of their adversaries – in favour of OGD.

“Mr. Chairman, you seem to be asking and expecting from me that which I have no powers to do. Those you have sidelined, though political allies of mine, are eminent political leaders and important personalities in their own rights. They cannot easily be suppressed and coerced into concurrence of obvious rights abuse without reactions.

“It is worse when it is an open secret as we all know that all these manipulations in the mould of reconciliation are meant to create loyal South West executive for your presidential ambition.

“The threat of expelling me and others perceived not to fall in line with executive created for your presidential agenda has become topical in the party. If you unjustly expel us from the party, you cannot expel us from the hearts of our people. Certainly, you cannot also expel us from the courts as bonafide Nigerians and law abiding citizens.”

  • Kashamu to Makarfi: adhere to the rule of law

The senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Buruji Kashamu, has advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Caretaker Chairman, Ahmed Makarfi, to adhere to teh rule of law.

Kashamu, in a letter to Makarfi yesterday, said it was wrong to hold the convention “despite the avalanche of disobedience of court orders during your planning of the last convention with the attending vicissitudes such illegal actions have created”.

The senator said: “Could it be that, unknown to me, the PDP National caretaker committee has assumed appellate jurisdiction over Nigerian high courts? In fact, I wish to also think that you’re not deliberating working with your caretaker members to destroy the PDP in the Southwest and particularly Ogun State. Otherwise, one is left to wonder why ordinarily easy and righteous reconcillatory steps are difficult for you to take. Rather, you increasingly complicated the matters for no logical reasons other than extreme self interests and parochial repayments for support of your stand, or lack of same; during your National leadership tussle with Sheriff. Even if you’re to be egocentric, though that’s unfortunate; must it be this total as to disregard and seek to deliberately circumvent the rule of law and possibly destroy the party in the whole of the Southwest zone?”

Kashamu went on: “ Mr Chairman of PDP National caretaker committee; I’m not against you!!! It’s your leadership which is suffocating the truth and legitimate rights of teeming party men in the SW and particularly Ogun state that makes me often to be advising you. These actions of yours could lead to chaos and breakdown of law and order in the SW if care is not taken and  luckily, by God’s providence, the injured parties chose to be law abiding by resorting to the courts instead of resorting to self help. Prior to the last convention, orders of court were served on you and the National caretaker committee to ensure that the authentic delegates from the Southwest as well as from Ogun State be allowed to participate. I appealed to you personally that you should obey the court orders to which you gave me your words to respect by being law abiding.

“Also those interested in the enforcement of their rights via the court orders wrote you and further sent emissaries to you for adherence to law, but you chose to disobey these subsisting orders. Not satisfied with the avoidable contempt of court, your caretaker committee lied to the NEC and subsequently misdirected the said convention which was constituted in disenfranchised rights of authentic delegates into taking illegal decisions.”

  • Ekweremadu, Mark, Ashafa, Kashamu seek rededication to nation-building

Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, former Senate President David Mark, Senators ‘Gbenga Ashafa (Lagos East),  Tayo Alasoadura (Ondo Central) and Buruji Kashamu (Ogun East) have felicitated with Muslim faithful on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir.

They stressed the need to rededicate to nation-building,  self-sacrifice, forgiveness and other higher virtues that promote national unity and growth.

Ekweremadu enjoined Nigerians to eschew all forms of recrimination and imbibe self-sacrifice, forgiveness and other higher virtues that promote national unity and development.

He said: “I congratulate our Muslim brethren on this occasion of Eid el-Kabir. This season of conviviality presents another opportunity to reflect on our national challenges and the way forward.

“No nation realises its full potentials without equity, justice, unity, and peaceful co-existence. I enjoin the Muslim Ummah and indeed all of us to imbibe the virtues of sacrifice, forgiveness and love that the season represents in order to move the nation forward.”

Mark canvassed for justice, righteousness and peaceful coexistence between and among Nigerians.

The senator, in a goodwill message, said only a harmonious and peaceful coexistence could guarantee meaningful growth.

Concerned about recent outburst from different regions agitating for self-independence within the existing geopolitical entity, Mark cautioned against any action or utterances capable of threatening the indivisibility of Nigeria.

Ashafa urged Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for unity.

He said in his message that Nigerians have more to gain in a united and indivisible country than a nation where people live in suspicion and hatred for one another.

He said: “We should endeavour to pray for continued unity and togetherness. Nigeria can only attain the desired greatness in an atmosphere of peace and love.

“Everything must be done to guard against the disintegration of the country. We must refuse to dance to drum beats of those promoting enmity amongst us. There is a lot to gain in living together.”

Alasoadura congratulated the faithful on the religious festival.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream) urged Muslims to support Akeredolu’s administration to facilitate meaningful growth.

He said with the calibre of the new cabinet members appointed by the governor, the people should be rest assured of positive transformation in the state.

Kashamu enjoined Nigerians to embrace peace and love.

The lawmaker urged them to seize the opportunity of the feast to demonstrate the essence of unity among the various ethnic groups in the country.

“Lack of unity among various ethnic groups in the country and self-centredness are the major ingredients that compromise peaceful co-existence and national growth.”

  • Kashamu faults Makarfi on panel

    Kashamu faults Makarfi on panel

THE senator  representing Ogun East, Buruji Kashamu, has faulted yesterday’s inauguration of a caretaker committee for the Ogun State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Kashamu, in a statement, said the action of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee (NCC) was an affront on the peace-loving leaders and members of the party in Ogun State and a most devastating slap on the judiciary.

He said the caretaker committee is one-sided and made up of ex-Governor Gbenga Daniel’s nominees with the exception of the chairman.

“How then could these people be talking of reconciliation and harmonisation? Clearly, they are liars and deceivers,” he said.

The statement reads: “Having emerged from validly organised congress, which was ratified by the 71st National Executive Committee (NEC), the NCC is aware of the valid and subsisting judgment in favour of the Engr. Adebayo Dayo-led State Executive Committee of the PDP in suit No. FHC/L/CS/636/2016 which is yet to be appealed, set aside or upturned, yet it chose to continue on the path of impunity and lawlessness. I do not see how these people can reposition the party. They want to compound its problems.

“The Ogun State PDP Executive under the leadership of Engr. Adebayo Dayo has binding court judgment and orders legitimising it as the duly and validly elected State Executive until 2020. This clearly allows the Engr. Adebayo Dayo-led executive to remain in office and carry out all its due responsibilities and functions.

“The mere fact that the National Convention has the powers to dissolve itself or even the party does not give anyone the powers to brush aside valid and subsisting court judgment.”

  • Why dissolution of Ogun PDP exco can’t stand, by Kashamu

Why dissolution of Ogun PDP exco can’t stand, by Kashamu

The senator representing Ogun West, Buruji Kashamu, has explained why dissolution of the executive council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State cannot stand.

The National Convention of the party at the weekend dissolved executive councils in Ogun, Osun, Lagos and some other states.

Kashamu, in a statement yesterday, said the party’s national leadership violated a court order.

He added that the judgment recognising the executive council in Ogun was never appealed and as such still subsisting.

He said: ”While it could be argued that the congress in Lagos State was inconclusive, the dissolution of the state executives in Osun and Ogun states was a clear travesty of justice. The congresses of these states were affirmed by the NEC before the May 21, 2016 botched convention in Port Harcourt.

“At its 74th NEC meeting held on July 17, 2017, the NEC resolved to reinstate all the State Excos that were elected at the April 2016 congresses but later reversed after the February, 17, 2017, judgment of the Court of Appeal. Ogun and Osun states were not listed as part of those states.

“So, what has changed? Why were the state executives in Ondo and Ekiti states left untouched? Are these executives not also dogged with issues? In Osun State, Omisore wants to perpetually hold on to the party structure, at the detriment of the over 90 per cent of the stakeholders, in order to push through his governorship ambition even when he has failed twice. In Ogun State, OGD and Ladi Adebutu are fomenting trouble in the party, all because of their senatorial and governorship ambitions in 2019. In Lagos State, Chief Bode George seeks to hold on to the party structure even when he has not been able to win his polling booth since 1999! In Ekiti and Ondo states, the party is divided 50/50.  Now, Ekiti is left in the hands of one man. No one is talking of harmonisation in Ekiti and Ondo states. They dissolved the excos in Ogun, Osun and Lagos states to satisfy Ayo Fayose, Iyiola Omisore, OGD and Chief George. What an injustice! What a double standard!”

Kashamu said “the supremacy of any party’s constitution is subject to the Constitution of Nigeria as stated in Chapter 1, Section 2 of our party’s constitution”.

He added: “The Ogun State PDP executive under the leadership of Adebayo Dayo has a court judgment and orders legitimising it as the duly and validly elected State Executive until 2020. This clearly allows the Adebayo Dayo-led executive to remain in office and carry out all its due responsibilities and functions.

“For the above reasons, the Dayo-led exco will remain in office till 2020 regardless of its purported dissolution, because the action taken by the NEC and convention of our great party is an illegal act. You cannot build something on nothing and expect it to stand.

“I believe that the so-called dissolution of the Dayo-led Ogun State exco never took place. It was not the authentic State exco that was dissolved. Rather, it was the parallel structure being promoted by the impostors that was dissolved.

“I understand that the amateurs are misconstruing a Supreme Court judgment that says it is only the national leadership that can submit names to the regulatory agency, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“While this may be true, it does not mean that the national body would just write names from the air and submit to INEC. It has to conduct primaries at a congress to be chaired by the State Chairman of the respective state executive. Anytime the national leadership fails to comply with this constitutional provision, it will always run into a cul-de-sac.

“The Supreme Court could not have given the NWC, NEC or the convention the right to disregard due process, court orders or judgments. It cannot encourage anyone or any institution the powers to be above the law. The constitution of the PDP and PDP itself are products of the laws of Nigeria.”

  • Kashamu to PDP leaders: don’t kill our party in Southwest

Kashamu to PDP leaders: don’t kill our party in Southwest

The senator representing Ogun East, Buruji Kashamu, has urged national leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) not to kill the party in the Southwest.

Kashamu, in a statement, said one or two people should not be allowed to control the party in the Southwest.

He said: “I wish to urge our national leaders not to allow these people to destroy the party in the Southwest. If they want the party to survive in the Southwest, they must accommodate everyone. They should not allow one or two people to control the party in the Southwest.

“We have many tested, educated and intelligent leaders in the Southwest. The structure of the PDP in the Southwest should not be left in the hands of some selfish impostors, who cannot mobilise for the party and look for resources to build it, alongside other meaningful leaders in the Southwest.

“For instance, during the 2015 elections, one of these people was accused of misappropriating N300 million of the N500 million meant for the Presidential election. The matter is still with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“It is normal for people to disagree. Sometimes, such disagreements, especially in a political party, could even shake it to its foundation. But, at the end of the day, it can only make it stronger. It was the laws of the land and our justice system that rescued the party and made it to stand today. We should stop all acts of impunity, lawlessness and illegality. That is the only way the party can stand the test of time.”

He faulted dissolution of the party’s executive councils in Ogun and Southwest, saying this was wrong since the courts had resolved issues of the authentic delegates to the National Convention from Ogun State and the Southwest.

He likened the rumbling in the party in Ogun and Southwest to “a contest among individuals interested in strengthening the PDP as a viable political party that aggregates and caters for the interests of all members and persons”.

Kashamu urged national leaders to avoid the distraction posed by some self-serving persons.

“Most politicians and political observers are aware of the political differences between me and Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, and former Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel (OGD).

“The others like Chief Iyiola Omisore, Chief Olabode George and the amateurish Ladi Adebutu – are latter day joiners, who dread a free and fair competition.

“In their desperate bid to destroy me, they have resorted to all manner of tricks, intrigues and manoeuvering. They have continued to blackmail me and poison minds of members of the National Working Committee (NWC), some national leaders, past and present governors as well as former ministers, calling me all manner of names.

“I will continue to fight for the interest of my people in the Southwest as they are my strength and shield. Without them, I am nothing. Since all my actions are borne out of sincerity and singleness of mind, I will continue to put my trust in the Almighty Allah,” he said.

He accused Fayose  of wanting to seize the party structure in the Southwest for future negotiation for his ambition, adding that Daniel has his eyes on the national chairmanship and wants to be in control of Ogun State PDP.

  • PDP to kick out Kashamu

    PDP to kick out Kashamu

•Fayose to declare my presidential ambition October 1

Leaders and other Southwest stakeholders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday dissociated themselves from Senator Buruji Kashamu.

The senator currently represents Ogun East in the National Assembly.

He was the Chairman of the party’s National Mobilisation Committee.

The zonal leadership also said it had cut ties with the senator and directed the leadership of the party in Ogun State to stop dealings and meetings with him and his agents until further notice.

The zonal leaders spoke at the end of a meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, where they discussed and took decisions on important issues affecting the progress of the PDP in the Southwest.

The meeting was attended by PDP leaders from Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti and Lagos states.

They include Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, a former Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Bode George, former Ogun State Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel, former Osun State Deputy Governor Iyiola Omisore, Dr. Saka Balogun, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, Elder Wole Oyelese and a former Southwest Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Tajudeen Oladipo.

Others include a former Minister of Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan, Senator Hosea Agboola and Senator Ayo Adeseun.

The leaders, who condemned what they called Kashamu’s “destabilising and anti-party activities”, also called for disciplinary actions against him for his alleged roles in the party’s electoral loss in Ogun, Ondo and Edo states.

Welcoming the leaders to the meeting, the Zonal Chairman, Dr. Eddy Olafeso, expressed joy over the party’s victory at the Supreme Court, which upheld the Ahmed Markafi faction of the party.

Fayose, who accused Kashamu of being responsible for the challenges confronting the party in the Southwest, advised the state party leaders to take charge of their states and disallow other people from hijacking the party from them.

He said: “All people that are destabilising the peace in PDP, we must sanction them. Nobody is greater that this party. If you call yourself a leader and you are waging war against it, definitely you are an enemy of the party.

“So, our meeting resolved that we don’t want him again in our party. We are not ready to have anything to do with him again. We have directed all the states to stay clear from him.”

A communique issued at the end of the meeting reads in part: “The Zonal Leadership also hereby condemns and regrets the action and ignoble role of some of its membership that led to the unfortunate experience and trauma that held the entire party down for over a year now and pray that may such never recur again in our great party

“The entire Southwest leadership and stakeholders condemn the destabilizing and anti-party activities of Senator Buruji Kashamu and demand disciplinary actions against him for his roles in the loss of the party in Ogun, Ondo and Edo states.

“The zonal leadership and stakeholders hereby dissociate the zone from the activities of Senator Buruji Kashamu and resolve further to henceforth desist from dealing with him in any capacity in the zone, and the leadership of the party in Ogun state is hereby directed to stop all dealings and meetings involvement with Senator Buruji Kashamu and his agents until further notice

“The Zonal Leadership and stakeholders also hereby reject any association whatsoever with Senator Buruji Kashamu henceforth.”

I’m not afraid of expulsion, says senator

The Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Buruji Kashamu, has declared that he is not afraid of being expelled from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He faulted Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose who yesterday declared him a persona non grata in Ibadan.
Kashamu, in a statement, said the Ekiti governor should be ignored by the people of the Southwest.
He described those who met in Ibadan as “some impostors parading themselves as the Southwest zonal executives of our party”.
The senator said: “Although I know that he lacks the wherewithal to pull through his wishes, let me quickly state that I am not afraid of any expulsion. I am a man whom the Almighty Allah has blessed and who has made a name before I joined politics. And I will continue to be relevant, in and out of party politics.
“The truth is: besides the illegality of their so-called resolutions, I do not need the association of Fayose and his cohorts. It is Fayose and his gang that should be avoided by our people. They should run from him for his ignoble role in the N13.5 billion arms funds scandal and for setting our party and region on a collision course with the rest of the country. He has since been declared a persona non grata and unfit among reasonable and right-thinking members of the society.
“The purported resolutions against me by these political harlots are at best a comic-relief of no consequence whatsoever. Fayose and his lackeys are better known for their duplicitous flirtations which borders on the politics of bread and butter. They are a hungry lot who are ruled and blindfolded by inordinate ambition.
“Besides, their action shows that Fayose and his minions are either strangers in the party or ignorant of the party’s Constitution, or both. Otherwise, they would have known that Article 57 (7) of the Constitution of PDP states, ‘Notwithstanding any other provision relating to discipline, no Executive Committee at any level, except the National Executive Committee, shall entertain any question of discipline as may relate or concern a member of the National Executive Committee, Deputy Governors or members of the National Assembly.’

“The illegal group being promoted by Fayose through Olafeso and Jenyo are contemnors who will soon face the consequences of their actions; except reason and justice prevail.”

  • Court asks Kashamu to submit to probe over ‘threat to life’

Court asks Kashamu to submit to probe over ‘threat to life’

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered Senator Buruji Kashamu (representing Ogun East) to submit himself for investigation on allegation of threat to the life of Oladipupo Adebutu.

Adebutu, the House of Representatives member representing Ikenne, Sagamu and Remo North in Ogun State, petitioned the police on August 16, last year, accusing Kashamu of threatening his life.

Justice Nnamdi Dimgba gave the order yesterday in a judgment on a fundamental rights’ enforcement suit filed by Kashamu.

The senator claimed that the police invitation to him was a ploy to extradite him to the United States (U.S.A) for trial on alleged drug-related offences.

Justice Dimgba said Kashamu’s apprehension that he could be arrested, detained and extradited to the U.S.A was understandable.

The judge said though he ordered Kashamu to submit himself to police investigation, the senator should not provide the police with a cover to arrest, detain or extradite him to the U.S.A.

Justice Dimgba said it would be unlawful for any other agency to assist the police in repatriating Kashamu to the U.S.A in view of the subsisting judgment given in his favour by a Federal High Court.

The judge refused to stop the police from investigating the senator on the alleged crime.

He said the police, under the 1999 Constitution and Police Act, have statutory powers to invite any Nigerian for interrogation on any criminal allegation.

Justice Dimgba did not place sufficient materials before the court upon which an order of perpetual injunction could be issued against the police on Kashamu’s invitation.

The judge said the police have the powers to interrogate anyone, based on mere suspicion, adding that any attempt to curtail the powers of the police in that regard was dangerous.

He held that Adebutu’s petition that Kashamu allegedly plotted to assassinate him in Port Harcourt (Rivers State) had nothing to do with the alleged drug case in the U.S.A.

The judge held that whatever may have been Kashamu’s experience on the alleged plot to extradite him could not be the basis to bar the police from performing their statutory function of investigating an allegation of attempt to life.

Justice Dimgba said: “I do not see how the police can be faulted by acting within the constitution to invite the senator. I do not believe that the allegations of ploy to extradite the applicant to the U.S.A are justified here.

“The police are bound to set up an investigating panel and the senator is bound to submit himself to the organs of the police, including honouring the letter of investigation.”
