  • Man docked over alleged impersonation, abduction

    The Police on Tuesday arraigned a 22-year-old man, Bright Solomon, in a Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for alleged impersonation and abduction.

    The defendant was docked on charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, impersonation, abduction and being in possession of ATM cards suspected to be stolen, offences he denied committing.

    The prosecutor, Babajide Olanipekun, told the court that the defendant and two others now at large, paraded themselves as clergymen and abducted one Onyinye Asawalam,‎ on May 5.

    He said that the defendant took Asawalam to Keystone Bank, Kubwa, without her parents’ consent.

    The prosecutor said that the defendant attempted to withdrew money with Asawalam’s ATM card, but was caught.

    He said that during police investigation, 14 different ATM cards were found in the possession of the defendant.

    The offences contravened Sections 97, 179, 272, 95 and 319 of the Penal Code.

    The judge, Mohammed Marafa, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000, with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until July 13 for hearing

  • Keystone Bank empowers ICT whiz kid

    Keystone Bank Limited has responded to an appeal by a 12-year-old emerging Nigerian ICT whiz-kid, Oluwatomisin Jasmin Ogunnubi, to boost her educational pursuit.

    Tomisin, a student of Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls in Lagos, was recently accepted by Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, USA, to attend the Young Global Scholars summer program organized for outstanding high school students. She is the young girl who not only developed an app for tracking kids but has won numerous awards in Canada, US and UK. She was in Oxford in 2017.

    Determined not to be left out of the Yale Young Global Scholars programme, Tomisin had in April 2018 written to the lender to partner with her in her quest and in swift response, Keystone Bank presented her with the sum of $4000  to attend the program slated for July.

    Brilliant Tomisin, came into the limelight in 2016 when she developed a location tracking App called ‘My Locator’ at the age of 12.

  • Keystone Bank partners CeLD, launches ‘CashToken’

    Keystone Bank Limited has partnered a ‘Cash Reward as-a-Service firm’, CeLD Innovations Limited, to launch ‘CashToken’, a new age of hyper- consumer centricity in Nigeria.

  • Agency banking: Keystone Bank, NIPOST partner

    Keystone Bank Limited yesterday launched ‘KeyServ’, an Agency Banking Proposition to serve customers outside its conventional brick and mortar mode of banking.

    The initiative, which is in partnership with Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) and i-OneC, a financial technology firm, is in line with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN’s) Financial System Strategy (FSS 2020) goals to increase financial inclusion uptake in Nigeria.

    According to the Group Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of Keystone Bank Limited, Obeahon Ohiwerei: “Enabling Financial Inclusion is our core area of focus and we have partnered with other industry players to deploy Digital Financial Solutions/ Platforms for improved access to finance; leveraging data to improve the product offerings, personalised and predictive customer service, and uncovering new customer segments”.

    The recent reports on adult Nigerians, according to Enhancing Financial Innovation & Access (EFInA), is that 40.1 million is financially excluded. That represents 41.6 per cent of 96.4 million adults. “To this end, we are partnering with NIPOST and i-OneC to offer financial inclusion services to un(der)banked Nigerians especially in the rural and less urban areas.”

    Under this partnership, KeyServ (Keystone Agency Banking Services) offers services such as account opening, bills payment, cash-in, cash-out, Automated Teller Machine (ATM) Services, fund transfers, balance enquiries, ATM cash withdrawals, mini statements and a whole lot more.

    “One landmark feature of KeyServ (Keystone Agency Banking Services) is that it offers affordable access to financial services than the traditional banking methods” Ohiwerei reiterated.

    Also, speaking at the launch, the Executive Director Corporate Banking & South, Keystone Bank, Yemi Odusanya, added that “with this scheme, customers, especially in the rural areas will enjoy unfettered access to banking services.

    As at today, we have about 106 approved agents across the country and already, the services are available at Sabongida-Ora (Evbiobe)-Edo State,  Sabon Gari (Kano), Mirinjibi (Kaduna), Barnawa (Kaduna), Yaba (Lagos) and Ikoyi (Lagos)”.

    Top organisations and brands have been named to have won the fifth annual edition of Nigeria Pension Awards and Africa Finance Awards scheduled to hold in Lagos on March 29th 2018.

    The companies include Keystone Bank, Vitafoam Nigeria Plc, Propertymart, PTAD, Modion Communications and STL Trustees.

    According to the organisers, the programme is designed to honor outstanding professionals and corporate organisations in the pension, finance, insurance and other sectors.

    TSA: No hidden Govt. funds in our custody – Keystone Bank

    Keystone Bank Limited has denied having in its custody any illegally hidden money belonging to the Federal Government of Nigeria or any of its agencies.

    Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West Senatorial district had accused the bank of colluding with the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to conceal about $137 million and thereafter illegally withdrew $4 million.

    But Keystone Bank, in a statement by the General Counsel & Company Secretary, Dr. Michael Agamah on Tuesday said, “We wish to state categorically that Keystone Bank Limited has never illegally hidden or withdrawn any amount of money belonging to the Federal Government or any of its agencies.”

    “Details of all Federal Government funds in custody of Keystone Bank had always been fully disclosed to all relevant Federal Government agencies and at no time did Keystone Bank collude or ‎conspire with any official of the Federal Government to disobey the Federal Government directives on the TSA.”

    The statement also added that “the lender informed its stakeholders that it would not conduct itself in breach of the laws or policies of the government, including the TSA policy and had since been engaging with relevant agencies to remit all funds in the Bank’s custody”.

    Katsina invests N200m in rice, cotton production

    The Katsina State Government says it has invested N200 million in rice and cotton production under the Anchor Borrowers Programme in the state.

    Dr Abba Abdullahi, the Special Adviser to Gov. Aminu Masari on Agriculture, disclosed this in Katsina on Tuesday, at the opening of a town hall meeting on the programme.

    The town hall meeting was organised by the state government in conjunction with the Central Bank of Nigeria ( CBN ), the co-sponsor of anchor borrowers programme.

    “We have rice and cotton farmers that collected the CBN loan under the anchor borrowers programme to boost rice and cotton production and the programme needed supervision.

    “We used the funds to supervise and inspect all the rice and cotton farms in the 34 local government areas of the state.

    “The Katsina state government also purchased over 35 motorcycles for extension workers to visit rice and cotton farmers with the aim of offering pieces of advice to them,” he said.

    Abdullahi said that part of the fund was used for the repair of 15 vehicles for officers involved in supervising the extension workers.

    Earlier, Alhaji Shehu Musawa, the Managing Director, State Agricultural and Rural Development Project (KATARDA), said the stakeholders’ meeting was to review how the programme fared during the rainy season.

    “Anchor borrowers programme has achieved the desired goal in the state as it has boosted rice and cotton production.

    “We are expecting bumper harvest of cotton and rice in the state,” Abdullahi said.

    In his contribution, Keystone Bank’s representative, Malam Ahmed Musa, said that the bank would continue to support agricultural programmes in the state.
