    Kwara Poly honours ex-student for award

    Management of the Kwara State Polytechnic has honoured an alumnus, Akeem Ojetola, for receiving the 2013 National Youth Service Corps (NSYC) presidential award.

    Ojetola, a 2011 graduate of Banking and Finance who served in Abia State between 2011 and 2012, was one of the corps members honoured by former President Goodluck Jonathan and promised jobs.

    Speaking at a reception organised for the institution’s medalists at 2014 Nigerian Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA) and Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed’s Second Term Athletics Competition, the Rector, Alhaji Mas’ud Elelu noted that Ojetola and other students had written their school’s name in gold.

    Elelu said: “Mr. Akeem Ojetola has passed through the Kwara State Polytechnic and he allowed the polytechnic to pass through him. I want to say this polytechnic has given him enabling environment to discover himself.

    “I recognise performances of awardees. They have represented us effectively at various capacities. And today history is made and it is forever and ever.”

    The Rector also promised the institution’s support for Ojetola, while challenging the sports honourees to merge sports performances with academic excellence.

    In his remarks, the Registrar, Pastor Moses Salami, said that the honour done to the institution by the students was worthy of celebration.

    Replying, Ojetola thanked the management of the institution for the reception, saying “I feel honoured and I’m very happy.”

  • Kwara Poly wins athletics meet

    The Contingent of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has won the State Tertiary Institutions Athletics Meet with two trophies and two gold medals.

    The Competition which was organised by the Kwara State Sports Council to commemorate the second term of Governor Abdulfattah Ahmed featured 4 x 100 metres relay races competed for by tertiary institutions and clubs.

    The institutions that participated with Kwara Poly included: University of Ilorin (UNILORIN); College of Education, Ilorin; College of Education, Oro; Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete; College of Arabic and Legal Studies; College of Health Technology, Offa and Oke Ode; College of Education (Technical), Lafiagi.

    Receiving the contingent on campus, Rector, Alhaji Mas`ud Elelu, praised the team for proving their worth and making the polytechnic proud.

    He said the management is making a frantic effort to gear the contractor constructing the new auto-modern Stadium to complete it before the end of this year.

    Elelu stressed that the completion of the institution’s stadium would enhance their performance and earn it the right to host the Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA) Games.

    The Rector therefore, advised the members of the contingent to face their studies and improve their sporting skills to prevent them from joining bad company.

  • Admission seekers protest non-inclusion of names by Kwara Poly

    Scores of admission seekers yesterday barricaded the gate to Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin.

    They were protesting the non-inclusion of their names in the admission at the institution.

    The protesters also mounted road blocks on the Ilorin-Jebba highway in front of the gate, obstructing traffic on the busy road.

    The police, the State Security Service (SSS) and the institution’s security intervened, which forestalled a bloody incident.

    Executive members of the polytechnic’s Students’ Union Government (SUG) and the directorate of students’ services reportedly joined the security operatives to ease gridlock on the highway.

    A statement by the school’s Deputy Registrar (Information and Publications Division), Moshood Amuda, urged parents, guardians, applicants and the public to bear with the management.

  • Kwara Poly expels 29 students for ‘exam malpractice’

    Authorities of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, have expelled 29 students for alleged examination malpractice during the last semester examinations for the 2012/2013 academic session.

    In a statement in Ilorin, the state capital, the Head, Information and Publication Division, Alhaji Moshood Amuda said: “The Governing Council of the Polytechnic recently approved their expulsion from the school for contravening the matriculation oath they swore to.”

    The students are: Haruna Abdullahi, Ajagbe Abosede Sherifat (Architecture Department); Onifade R. Bisola (Urban and Regional Planning Department); Balogun Adeoye Ridwan (Mineral Resources Department); Issa Abdulganeey Olamilekan (Agric Engineering Department); Lameed Olanrewaju Mustapha (Mechanical Engineering Department); Amogbonjaiye Samuel Sunday (Mineral Resources Department); Adedire Abimbola Adekunle (Civil Engineering Department) and Babatunde Oluwashegun Sunday (Department of Electrical Electronics).
