Lady dies after alleged push into pot of boiling pepper

Israel Joe has described how his friend Roseline died in Sapele, Delta State after being allegedly pushed into a boiling pot of fresh pepper and tomatoes by her two female friends.

Joe said that on Saturday, April 13, Roseline, a caterer, died after she went on a trip to Sapele with her friends for a catering job.

Joe said in a Facebook post on Friday that Roseline told him about two friends who were treating her cruelly before the tragic demise.

He emphasised that no progress had been achieved in Roseline’s murder case and requested the Nigeria Police to look into the death of the victim and apprehend her attackers.

He wrote: “She was pushed into a big boiling pot of fresh pepper and tomatoes by her friend on Saturday, 13th April. She battled for about two weeks with her roasted/boiled body and finally ḍíęɗ last week Friday 26th April.

“Nobody in the neighborhood in Otokutu knew Roseline had been allegedly kíIIed by these same friends. She was buried with no one to bid her goodbye and with no single bųríaI poster to honour her. Just two days in the morgue, the mørtųarƴ attendants demanded she be carried away to be buried.

“She traveled with them for a catering job in Sapele where they were speaking their local language with this Yoruba girl, Rozzy, not understanding their conversation.

“All of a sudden, she landed in a very big pot of boiling fresh pepper and tomatoes where they even still delayed in rescuing her. She was later rushed to Sage Hospital by Estate in Warri, where they managed the situation, but my friend couldn’t make it.”

Joe said he was pained that those responsible for her death were still walking free.

He added: “What pains me is that these two girls are still walking and gallivanting everywhere like nothing happened. I hate intimidation and oppression, especially against non-indigenous persons. The police must smoke them out so they can face the law. Na God dey help who nor get helper.

“We shall fight for Rozzy. You can not just be kíIIęɗ like a chicken and bųřried like an aŋímąl. Nobody deserves such a hørribIe dęąth. We never got to meet Rose, only chatting on Facebook due to endless busy schedules only to see you, at the most disgusting sight at Sage Hospital, hoping for your recovery, but dęąțĥ stole you Justice shall prevail, including if you would be exhumed.”

Time for politics over, now time for healing – First Lady

… To donate N1m to each family of 500 displaced in Mangu

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Friday, said the time for politicking is over in Nigeria, adding that it is now time for the prospect seen by the founding fathers of the nation to materialize. According to a statement issued by her spokesperson, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady stated this when Wives of Ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria paid her a congratulatory visit in her office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

She noted that women have a critical role in bringing healing to the nation hence the reason for the RHI reaching out to the displaced people of Mangu in Plateau State. “Our colonial masters saw a prospect in Nigeria and that is why they brought all of us together. It is time for that prospect to materialize now. When we build lives, we are actually building our nation. Politics is over. Every state we want to really affect. We want to go in there because it is our state. Nigeria belongs to all of us.

  • Body of slain lady found in Ebonyi hotel

The Police in Ebonyi state says it has discovered the body of a yet to be identified middle aged lady in a hotel in Abakaliki.
Spokesman of the Police in the state, Loveth Odah said the body had deep cuts on the chest and neck and has been deposited in  mortuary.
The incident, according to the spokesman, took place at Crown Garden Hotel Abakaliki located along the ever-busy Afikpo road in the capital city.
Odah, who said that the victim was seen in the pool of her own blood, noted that the identity of the suspected assailant has been uncovered.
She said that though the identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained, the hotel manager Mr. Emmanuel Eze, the supervisor and other staff had been taken to the police station for questioning and accused the hotel management of negligence.
“The Manager of the hotel, the supervisor and other staff of the hotel were taken to the station for questioning and I must confess to you that the whole thing is negligence on the part of the hotel management. How can a guest be murdered in a hotel room and days after, the management is not aware of the incident.
” We will investigate the matter properly and I assure you, the perpetrator of the act must be arrested and prosecuted. All we are asking is for the members of the public to avail the police of useful information that would led to the arrest of the suspect”.
A customer, Mr. Sylvester Oduma whose complaint led to the discovery narrated what happened to journalists.
According to him,  he arrived the hotel on Sunday, paid for a suite and checked into the hotel only to perceive unpleasant odour oozing out from the next room until it became unbearable.
“I quickly drew the attention of the management of the hotel to the unpleasant odour and they quickly opened the door and found the lifeless body of a fair lady in the room. Possibly she was stabbed to death by her supposed boyfriend identified as .”
“Immediately, the police was contacted and a team of Officers arrived the scene. On arrival they saw the gory sight of the stabbed lady. The policemen immediately arrested all the management and staff of the hotel and took them away. The policemen evacuated the corpse and deposited it in a morgue”.
Mr. Oduma noted that the suspect was also said to have made away with all the belongings of the deceased including her phone so that he could not be tracked.
The Hotel Manager, Mr. Emmanuel Eze said that he was on a three days journey when the incident took place.
He said that as soon as he was contacted, he immediately contacted the police who went and evacuated the corpse from the hotel room.
” I was on a three day journey when the incident took place but as soon as I was informed, I also informed the police who immediately went to the scene and evacuated the body of the lady. Upon my arrival to Abakaliki, I was invited by the police but after making statement, I was granted bail”.
He said that the unfortunate murder case may not be for ritual purpose as her vital organs were still intact before her evacuation from the hotel.
“Every business has its own challenges, this is one of the hazards of hotel business. I thank God that as at today none of my staff has been linked to the gruesome murder,” the Manager said.
  • How not to be a lady and my other (un)social etiquettes

Perhaps, we may regard this age as the ruffian’s age, the rogue’s age, the thug’s age, but certainly not the lady’s age. Good example: just look at our politicians. Can you imagine a good man surviving in their midst? Now then, are you surprised that our female politicians cannot afford to be ‘ladies’ in their midst either? They would not survive. So, our female politicians have learnt to dine with their male counterparts using long spoons. Just ask our former first lady; just look at the terribly loooong spoon she used to dine all the way from Abuja to Rivers State. Do you then wonder that we have been getting some teeeeeerribly funny results in that region?

They say it takes seven generations to make a lady; and I say it may take seven countries to make one. The reason is that this is the age of THE COOOOOL; the age when bad is good, mean is beautiful, ugly is handsome, wicked is admirable and the unpredictable attracts worse than honey does bees. In this age, ladies have become men of brawn, and gentlemen have given way to laughter. They are splitting their sides watching the women painfully swing all kinds of doors open with fake manly gusto.

Many people think that being a lady only means wearing ruffles, silks and diamonds. In truth, there are many ladies in AJEGUNLE and there are also many JANKARA women in IKOYI. Actually, it is not when one is dressed up to the nines that one can claim to be a lady. Clothes, they say, doth not a man make, or a woman. Most times, dressing up in the fineries only succeeds in making one look gaudy, untidy and a bad advertisement for the diamond cutter. Just ask the wife of one of our senators who recently celebrated her birthday in a dress that looked like a masquerade’s parade! But you and I know better. We know how to tell a lady apart, don’t we?

We know that a lady is someone who does everything in a calculated, unhurried way. Even when it is raining, a lady may hasten her footsteps, but she will not run giddy-gadding for shelter no matter how wet she may be. She will also not swear at the blasted weather. Her habits must be neat. Now, that’s a tough one. It means that a lady will not bend down to retrieve her keys like a fish seller laying down her fish-load from her head, her bottoms up. Rather, she will stoop, her knees bent, to retrieve her object from the gutter, no matter how dirty. She will not even walk in any which way, flinging legs and thighs around as if she is trying to determine how much they weigh. Indeed, to be a lady, one is encouraged to walk as if the entire body is in a POP cast, like a broken leg or arm.

More importantly, a lady watches what she says. Now, there you have us all Nigerian women. I am told that there are certain words that must not ensue from a lady’s mouth; for example, words heavily laden with abuses, insults, curses, and such shrew-like epithets are not ladylike. I think Nigerian husbands wrote that rule, but never mind, the important thing is that her speech, to the weather and every other unruly element, must always be pleasing. Anger at erring husbands and children must be expressed in an inoffensive way, not with pestle and mortar, but with well-chosen words such as ‘Oh, but you are a funny one, are you not?’ to someone who has stolen a goat; and ‘Oh my, what a lovely rascal you are to be sure’ to someone who has stolen someone else’s house. And to someone who has embezzled billions of Naira, a lady would rather say, ‘Consider yourself slapped!’

When I ponder on why it is that men no longer want to do things for women – you know, like opening doors, drawing out chairs, giving up their seats for them, waiting attentively on the words dropping out of their sagacious mouths, making sure women eat first before the men – I find it is because the women have sold themselves out to the enemy. No, no, the enemy is not the group called men; the enemy is the weakness in women that makes them succumb to the rush of the moment and the rush for the gold of the workplace, which has sometimes been erroneously interpreted as self-realisation. In the process, self-assertion has taken the centre stage and squeezed out the very soul of politeness women are known for.

Worse, in this age of nuclear technology, the preoccupation of most people is directed more at the nuclear bombs they are sitting on and the nuke-heads pointing at their throats. That leaves issues such as good comportment and social manners scraping the forgotten bottom of the barrel of important items to worry about. To cap everything else, I find that there is a deep, deep level of ignorance which is most astounding. ‘Lady?’, my respondents shot back at me when I vouchsafed to ask some women for their opinions on the matter. ‘Wetin be lady? Abeg comot jo; na lady we go chop?’ In this age, I say, the stomach rules, ok.

Now, in many homes, the man eats his fill of the dinner first before the woman, if she is lucky to get any. Perhaps, that accounts for why women no longer care about themselves when they are outside the home, e.g. say in traffic. Oh my, have you seen the way women drive cars these days? It is enough to make Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti turn in her grave. I tell you, if she had driven that way when she became Nigeria’s first female-driver, there would have been a parliamentary move against female-drivers then and we would today be in the same boat as women in one Arab country where they are not allowed to drive, and from what I see now, I can’t blame them much. These days, its women who overtake with all kinds of swoosh from any direction, like the Arabian genie coming in and going out of a bottle.

Someone commented the other day that Nigerian women carry themselves generally with the most careless abandon in their talk, shape and gait. I agreed and decided to watch myself from then on. However, it was hard going not to fling abuses at taxi-drivers and Okada riders who cut into traffic without any care, children who crossed the roads without checking first, chickens that scurried to and fro without any care. It was tough not to pounce on my food like a famished tiger after a hard day’s work. It was tougher to remember to walk or drive like a human being when I found I was late for work.

It pains me each time I see women straddling Okada with all their dignity packed up with their skirts, or when I watch their waistlines jiggling up and down as the road contours. They do not ride Okada astride in skirts, showing their all to the backs of the riders.

Clearly, the women in this country need to get their ladylike acts back together. There are things ladies just do not do; they do not let money, position or politics make them lose their sense of propriety. More importantly, they must retain a good temper and be trustworthy. And they must guard the sanctity of whatever has been entrusted to them (children, husband, power, position or wealth) with every sense of responsibility for the sake of everyone. Above all, they must be careful never to fight in public or drive those around them crazy with their nonsenses.

  • This lady needs N10.95m to avert looming death

EVERY breath that 37-year-old Akuwa Joy Adejo takes draws her closer to the grave. Akuwa Joy may be counting her days on earth. Unless she obtains the sum of N10.95 million ($55, 000) and undergoes a liver transplant as well as umbilical surgery booked for India on before January 15, she will be totally drained of life.

Akuwa, a single woman with no child and a Bachelors of Education (B.Edu (Economics)) holder based in Lagos, until her sickness owned a Coutre because she could not secure a job.

Ms Akuwa is not given to idleness.  She was diagnosed with umbilical hernia and liver failure. She requires liver transplant as well as umbilical surgery to correct the swelling which often leaves her wreathing in pains.

Akuwa, even in her weak state, is doing everything within her might to clutch to life, including taking to the social media through the address, https://www.gofundme.com/m4c5qfa7 and her Facebook Wall, Akuwa Adejo to market her merchandise. In her own little way, she is also sourcing for funds for her operation.

Are you moved to assist? Do reach out through her GSM number 08138421992 or pay into her account with GTBank: Akuwa Joy Adejo, a/c no. 0128095253.

Her family, a close-knit one, has spent much on her upkeep and is still spending, but the family members cannot afford the huge cost required to keep her alive. The family’s gallant efforts have yielded results so far as Akuwa has been evaluated by an India-based hospital, and were told the requirements in financial terms and organ donation.

They learnt that their daughter could not be cut open twice  for the surgeries with very short breaks in between. The doctors advised to have the two surgeries done at the same time.

Her brother has agreed to donate (a part of) his liver. A member of the family will also be travelling with the two to look after them following the surgical procedure.

The required cost of N10.95m  or $55,000 is inclusive of the surgery, accommodation, air tickets and travel arrangements.

Akuwa has until Januay 15 to get these surgeries done. The last time she went to India, the doctors told her that her liver performed below five percent of capacity.

As a matter of fact, Akuwa has less than one month to perform the surgeries and prevent the premature consequence of death
