    Obanikoro desperate, says Lagos APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has described the statement credited to former Minister of State for Defence, Musliu Obanikoro, that APC will run down Nigeria the way it ran down Lagos as the ranting of a desperate man.

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Joe Igbokwe, the party said Obanikoro was oozing nonsense after his humiliation in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary.

The party advised Obanikoro to rehabilitate his battered political image before uttering incoherent jabs.

It said: “It is apparent that Obanikoro is still smarting from the dazing he got when his dream of ruling Lagos was finally nailed.

“It is apparent that Obanikoro is searching for words  to gratify himself once again to his outgoingAbuja patrons.

“From every indication, the former minister was jesting or trying to poke fun on the fading PDP that has so disappointed him.

“Yes, APC will “run down” Nigeria to a country where infrastructure works, where jobs are created, where there is security, where schools and hospitals work, where roads are fixed, where free housing is provided, where the economy is robust.

“This is the type of “run down” Nigeria requires today far from the PDP “glorious” picture of massive looting, ethnic and sectarian division and acrimony, worsening unemployment, infrastructural wreckage, total unemployment, overwhelming inflation, total devaluation of Naira, where life expectancy has reduced, where poverty walks on “four” legs, where there is no light, where the citizens live in fear.”

  • I am not tired of working for Lagos – Ikuforiji

Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, speaker Lagos State House of Assembly, has disclosed that he is not tired of working for the state in spite of his loss at the recent governorship primaries.
Ikuforiji, who was defeated in his All Progressives Congress (APC) party primaries, made this known in Lagos on Wednesday during the annual thanksgiving service organised by the House of Assembly fellowship.
According to him, “I am neither tired nor thinking of retirement and I will not relinquish my aim for a greater Lagos.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the thanksgiving service was tagged “Greater Height”.
The speaker urged residents of the state to appreciate God for His mercies and protection over the years.
“I recall how I was discharged and acquitted by a Federal High Court in Lagos over allegations of corruption by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
“It has been a challenging period for me, my family and my friends; I have every reason to praise God.
“So, I am not tired of working for the progress of Lagos state,” he maintained.
He said lawmakers and member of staff were determined to take the assembly to a greater height, adding that he was leaving behind well-trained workers and legislators.
He added that during his tenure, the House of Assembly Service Commission was established, with state-of-the-art facilities and proper method of accounting.
Ikuforiji assured that the house would continue to go higher under his stewardship, adding that the new building being constructed in the assembly’s premises would be inaugurated before May, 2015.
“We will continue to set the pace for other state Houses of Assembly,” he said.

  • ‘Lagos APC primaries must hold’

A group, Eko Democratic Movement (EDM), has said the only way the All Progressives Congress (APC) can win in Lagos State is to ensure that the governorship candidate emerges through a fair process.

In a statement by its Chairman, Abdulrasak Babajide, the group said what would make the party attractive to the electorate was to ensure that its governorship candidate is acceptable to all.

Babajide said: “We cannot afford to toy with the sensibilities of our people now that they are becoming conscious of their rights.

“The APC remains the party to beat and we have to get it right. And to get it right, we have to pick the right candidate and to have the right candidate; we have to create a credible process for his or her emergence. That is why we are calling on the party leadership to give the aspirants a level- playing field.

“That is our minimum demand and this is what we think can put the party on a sound footing before next year’s election. Any imposition of candidate would create unnecessary animosity, acrimony and divisions which we don’t want.”

  • ‘Lagos APC not stopping anyone’

The All Progressives Congress in Lagos State has denied the allegation that it is stopping some aspirants from seeking a fourth term.

In a statement by its Chairman, Henry Ajomale, the party said: “The reports making the round about the alleged decision by Lagos APC to stop aspirants from contesting after a third term is a fallacy.

“There is no iota of truth in the report as no such decision was reached. It is a total mis-representation of the decision reached and such information must have emanated from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) agents. “The Governors’ Advisory Committee (GAC) never issued such a directive or reached such a decision. The APC believes in the inalienable rights of every eligible member to contest for any elective office for as many terms as possible as long as it is constitutional.

“The democratic rights of party members are recognised and respected. Every member is allowed to compete.

“The party urges members to collect forms if interested in any position. Both current members, no matter how many times they have run, and new aspirants are allowed to compete. At the end, the voters hold the ace and not the party leadership.”

  • Police, task force clash vindicates us, says Lagos APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has said the clash between the Police and members of the Federal Task Force in Ojota, Lagos, has vindicated its earlier stance that the “so-called task force is a group of hoodlums assembled by inordinate individuals to disrupt the peace and progress of Lagos”.

The party said the existence of the task force will impede the peace and progress of Lagos and called for its immediate disbandment.

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Joe Igbokwe, APC said the formation of the task force was “purely political as it has no legal or statutory backing”.

It urged Lagosians to be vigilant and report the activities of the task force to security agencies, adding that Lagos is prepared to deal with “this political nuisance”.

APC said: “We recall that we earlier called attention to the existence of this so called task force in a Federal Roads Management Agency (FERMA) facility in Ojota, Lagos, some weeks ago. We pointed out the inordinate mission of the task force, which is the recruitment of hoodlums to leverage mayhem in Lagos in the guise of securing federal roads in Lagos.

“We have alleged that this was the resurrection of the FERMA thugs the erstwhile Minister of Works, Adeseye Ogunlewe, recruited when he presided over the complete ruination of Nigerian roads while being fixated with disrupting the relative peace and progress Lagos was then making.

“We recall that FERMA was to deny being behind this task force some days after our allegation but no one has come to claim being behind this task force. This group has attached SURE-P/FERMA task force to its name even as there is no proof of legal backing behind it and even after it had been proved it exists only in Lagos.

“We recall that last week, Lagos Police Commissioner declared the task force illegal. We note the spirited effort by those alleged to have packaged that illegal task force to disown the group, even when no effort had been made to stop its illegal operations.”

  • Lagos APC slams Obanikoro for land grabbing

Lagos APC slams Obanikoro for land grabbing

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has criticised the Minister of State for Defence, Musliu Obanikoro for using soldiers to stop the housing project of the state government at Ilubirin.

Dismissing Obanikoro’s claim that the land belongs to the Federal Government, APC asked if Obanikoro was made a minister to “further the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP’s) battle to stifle Lagos and a fifth of Nigeria’s population because Lagos has refused to join the PDP bandwagon”.

In a statement by its Interim Publicity Secretary, Joe Igbokwe, APC said Obinokoro’s claim was ridiculous, adding that the state government had reclaimed the land.

It said Lagos would be intimidated by “such primitive tactics” and warned Obanikoro to steer clear of the land.

APC said: “We are yet to understand the basis upon which Obanikoro is claiming that a part of Lagos, which was reclaimed by the state government, belongs to the Federal Government, as well as his obnoxious use of the military to stop a housing project of the Lagos State government.

“This is an illegal use of crude means to overwhelm and annex Lagos, since the state refused to sign up to the decadent politics of the PDP and its decrementing values. We see Obanikoro’s effort as just another greedy, illegal land grab that will fail, as there is no basis for such reckless impunity.

“Lagos APC is now being made to understand that Obanikoro’s appointment as a minister was to create crisis in Lagos, engage in a battle of forts with the legally constituted authority and obstruct the globally-acclaimed feat by the Lagos State government.

“We are convinced that the perpetration of illegality and employment of brute force to mount an illegal quest for territory in Lagos has become such an attractive fad with successive PDP governments and we assure Obanikoro and his masters that just as previous efforts failed, this one too will.

“We are aware that what Obanikoro is doing today has no legal basis or backing, but as an average PDP man, he believes that a sophisticated state as Lagos could be overwhelmed by the use of brute force and misuse of the military. Lagos will certainly show him that such tactics have no place in a democracy, even with the misuse the PDP has subjected it to.

“We warn Obanikoro and whoever he represents in his present obnoxious quest to annex Lagos land to steer clear of this act, for Lagos will not sit idly by and watch such annoying perpetration of illegality against it by an overzealous agent of backwardness. We urge Lagosians to rise up and condemn this illegal act as it portends grave danger to the interests of Lagosians.”
