    Lawmaker cares for ailing constituents

Chief Whip of Ebonyi State House of Assembly Hon.  Kingsley Ikorohas made good his electoral promise, offering free medical treatment to 200 indigent patients of his constituency.

The lawmaker who represents Afikpo Northwest state constituency said 100 out of the 200 persons are already enjoying the free treatment while the other 100 will follow.

He said this at Ozziza Central School in Afikpo North Local Government Area of the state where he feted widows. He also distributed wrappers and other items including cash to aged widows of the constituency.

He expressed regret over the sudden death of certain persons in the society which he said could have been avoided if they had gone to hospital for medical treatment.

“This is why we offered the free medical treatments to the constituents,” he said. “We will be paying the premium of this free medical treatment to the NHIS every year and we will continue to cloth the widows and empower the indigents.”

In his remarks, the President, Afikpo Mutual Health Association Chief Agha Ewah said the free medical treatment will go a long way in solving the health problems of the people.

Some of the widows who spoke thanked the lawmaker for remembering them.

The lawmaker representing Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ayo Omidiran has said that quality representation laced with focus, dedication, spirit of service and positive ideas engender human, infrastructural, economic and political development. These are, she said, very critical to the overall well-being of the people.

Hon. Omidiran stated this while giving account of her stewardship in the National Assembly in the last six months during a Town Hall Meeting held in Gbongan, Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State.

The Town Hall Meeting, which is the second in the series since she won the election last year, gave the constituents the opportunity of having first-hand information about the goings on in the House of Representatives and to interface with their representative and suggest the way forward for the constituency’s development.

Addressing the gathering, Omidiran said: “My topmost priorities as representative of the constituency include sponsoring life-changing bills as well as pursuing agenda that will attract development to the people.

“My constituency projects as constitutionally and legitimately captured in this year’s budget will focus on provision of potable water in every nook and cranny of the constituency as well as renovation of major markets in the three local government areas that make up the constituency.”

Hon. Omidiran, who sought the co-operation and support of the people at all times, promised to evolve policies and programmes that will bring succour to the people. She further called for their support for the Mohammadu Buhari-led administration as it has good intentions to take the country out of the present economic quagmire.

The lawmaker also encouraged the youth to always enunciate ideas capable of securing their future, adding that she would always be ready to support such ideas in any capacity. She also encouraged them to take advantage of the N-POWER scheme of the Federal Government as it is part of plans by the government to fight poverty and hunger.

Speakers at the event commended Hon. Omidiran for not letting them down. They, however, encouraged her not to relent in her commitment to take the constituency to an enviable height.

They equally urged her to inform the Federal Government to accelerate actions that would ameliorate the suffering of the masses.

Ajimobi hails police over arrest of suspected killers of lawmaker

Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi has hailed the Police for their quick intervention in apprehending some suspected killers of the late member of House of Assembly, Gideon Aremu.

He spoke through a statement signed by Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism Mr. Toye Arulogun.

The governor lauded the police command for exhibiting professionalism, commitment and dedication to a crime-free society by tracking down the suspected culprits in the gruesome murder of the former Chairman, House Committee on Information.

He said the government saw this laudable development by the police as working in line with the Ajimobi administration’s zero tolerance for criminality and brigandage, which once marked out Oyo as a state of violence.

The combination of similar efforts by both the government and security agencies account for the reason Oyo State was not included in the state’s listed as unsafe for foreign nationals in Nigeria by the United States (U.S.) Department of State.

The commissioner reiterated the government’s readiness to support the police and other security agencies, assuring residents and citizens of the government’s zero tolerance for criminal and violent acts.

Is Lagos lawmaker Desmond Elliott back to acting?

Multi-award winning actor, Desmond Elliott, might be returning to the big screen soon. He was recently spotted on the set of a new TV series ‘Single Ladies’.

According to information gathered, the Lagos lawmaker representing Surulere 1 constituency is the Executive Director of the movie that is currently being shot by ROK Studios in Lagos.

The new TV series, which is expected to hit TV screens before the end of the year, features the likes of Mercy Aigbe-Gentry, Annie Idibia, Grace Amah, Patida Agu, among others.

The actor-turned-politician was also spotted at the Festival of India at the Tafawa Balewa Square,TBS, in Lagos, held last Saturday.

The Festival of India in collaboration between International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) and the India Disapora in Lagos is designed to bridge the cultural gap between India and Nigeria.

Elliot, who is now a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, was also seen in the company of Sammy Okposo and Ara, the female drummer.

  • How to halt youth unrest, by lawmaker

•Gives GCE forms to indigent students

member of Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Badagry Constituency II, Mr Setonji David, has urged the Federal Government to liberate the youths from unrest through huge investment in the education sector.

David made the plea while giving out free WASSCE forms to 100 indigent students in his constituency. The event, which held at the lawmaker’s constituency office in Ajara,  Badagry, was the second edition, attracting beneficiaries across the eight wards that constitute Badagry Constituency II.

David, who frowned at the rising wave of insecurity, hooliganism, violence, militancy and general youths unrest, attributed the atrocities to inaccessible and unaffordable education.

He said: “One of the major ways to liberate a race is to make education accessible and affordable to all irrespective of financial, social and political status.

“I want to urge government at levels, to make quality education more accessible to all, and sundry.”

He said making quality education accessible and affordable, will automatically reduce budget allocated to security every year.

David, who is Chairman, House Committee on Physical Planning and Urban Development, said the essence of distributing the forms was to motivate youths willing to acquire knowledge, but are financially incapacitated.

A beneficiary, Victoria Gadonu, thanked the lawmaker and promised to work harder to pass the examination.

“I am assuring the legislator and my parents alike of my commitment and readiness to pass the examinations in flying colours,” she said

Other beneficiaries such as Miss Misenmau Honfa, Mr Mautin Hunga, Mr Samson Jacob, Miss Esther among others, assured the lawmaker to do their best to succeed.

  • How peace can return to PDP, by lawmaker

How peace can return to PDP, by lawmaker

Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejiocha is the Chairman of the Aviation Committee in the House of Representatives. She represents Umunneochi/Isiukwuato Constituency. In this interview with Sunny Nwankwo, she speaks on the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and President Muhammadu Buhari’s battle against corruption, among other issues.

You are a third term lawmaker representing Isiukwuato/Umunneochi Constituency in the House of Respresentatives. how has it been?

It has been very good and very challenging. Very good in the sense that I grew up here (Umunneochi). I attended Isuochi Central School. I later attended Isuochi Secondary School, but after three years, I changed to Ovim Girls Secondary School in Isiukwuato. So, if you look at that background, I am not a newcomer here; both Isiukwuato and Umunneochi.

Politically, as a woman, the men wouldn’t want to give you a chance. So, it is very challenging because they were saying, why will it be this woman (Nkeiruka). Am sure that you know that any woman who is in politics fights ten times more than the man; if I were a man, all the men will accept me, but when you are not a woman, you see people at every point in time, trying to gang up to stop you and that was why I said initially that being involved in politics as a woman is very challenging.

How have you been able to cope being as an opposition member in the House of Rep having been a member of a former ruling party (PDP)?

Anyway, for somebody who has been very vocal and rational, it doesn’t make any difference. I am still who I am. But, for some people who are sycophants and want to be at the corridor of power, it is a big deal. It is no big deal for me. The only problem I have now is that a lot of people who are in the ruling party are suspecting everybody. The government of the day doesn’t trust us; they don’t believe that we are rational when we are saying things. They don’t believe that we are saying things that are correct. They believe that we want them out of power and so, it has beclouded their minds from seeing the truth from what we say and what we offer. So, that the challenge. If they are open, there is no big deal being in the opposition. We have only one Nigeria, the only thing is that the service delivery might be different. But with the government of change who don’t trust anybody, it is very difficult. If they have open mind to listen to us without considering the party that one belongs to, then it will be okay. But when they see you as someone that is from the opposition that even before you say something, somebody had already concluded on what you have to say, then that’s the challenge because with this distrust, communication is very hard. But for me, it is same, its just that with the economic downturn and security situation in the country, things are harder.

Do you think that President Buhari has given women the chance in his administration when compared with Dr Jonathan’s government?

There is nothing to compare about during Jonathan’s era and the incumbent administration as far as women empowerment. Look at the cabinet as presently constituted, you can’t even compare it with Obasanjo’s cabinet. This government doesn’t even want to hear about women. Yes, I see women like minister of finance, environment and few others. But the truth is that women appointment into offices has dropped drastically at the moment.

What should be done to improve the situation is for government to go back to the basis; implement the Beijing resolution and then run with it. like now that we are doing electoral amendment, we should the government should as a matter of urgent importance adopt UWAIS report because the report took care of women’s participation in politics; where they said that political parties should allocate certain positions to women in political parties. But unfortunately the only position that political parties have reserved for women is the woman leader.

Lawmakers from the Southeast have been accused of inadequate representation of the zone. How justifiable are these claims?

It depends on what they mean by “not representing the zone”. Well, this question should go to our leadership because once the leadership is not focused, it falls down to the people following. Let the people who are talking rate us on individual basis. I am not a leader in the National Assembly and I am not his voice. I will speak for the people of Isiukwuato and Umunneochi Federal Constituency. I think basically what people should be asking is what their representative is doing? So once they get to know what their rep is doing, then they will get what the leader of the southeast is doing and from there, they run with it.

I won’t speak for others and for anytime that I get up at the floor of the house to speak, I always speak for Isiukwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency and sometimes on matter of public importance concerning southeast I say what I am supposed to say. Like when the Fulani herdsmen did what they did in Enugu State, I issued press release and had press conference where I condemned such action at the floor of the house. I know that during the 7th Assembly, we had a Deputy Speaker (Emeka Ihedioha) and a deputy Senate President (Ike Ekweremadu) and by that time, we (PDP) are the government in power and now, we (Southeast) still have Deputy Senate President (Ike Ekweremadu) and we have deputy minority leader. So, this question should go to the Deputy Senate President and Deputy Minority Leader.

What I am doing in my little capacity is that, once anything concerning the people of southeast is on the front burner, I don’t wait for anybody to speak out.

The Grazing Bill seems to have generated controversy at the National Assembly. Do you think that the Southeast needs grazing bill?

When the Fulani herdsmen attacked Enugu State, remember that I told you that I held a press conference where I condemned it and in a press release that I equally issued, I said that we will not support the grazing bill and I believe that the grazing bill will not see the light of the day. I believe also that rearing cow is business and people should not destroy other peoples wealth while doing their business. From this part of the country (Southeast), basically 80% of our people live on farming no matter the scale. Then somebody is coming to take over our land, what would the person want us to do? They said that they have landmass, why don’t they do ranches? That is my take on it and I believe that every reasonable Nigerian will take that stand.

Are you worried like every Nigerian and PDP supporters over the recent development in the party?

Why will I be worried when we lost out of carelessness? We (PDP) are reaping what we sow.

Do you see the present squabble affecting the party’s performance in the next general election?

The truth of the matter is that we have to go back to the drawing board to find out how the PDP got it wrong. Why won’t people resign in Nigeria? immediately Jonathan lost, there were a lot of people who should have resigned because they don’t have any business holding forth for PDP and they sat back to blame people who won election. Even within the period, some party outside this country resigned after their party lost out in an election.

You lead and led your party to failure and you stayed back, what do you have to offer? What I know is that in due course, God will take care. I am a PDP person. we ran an election and we had issues. We lost so many states, and Presidency. But the people who led us to failure stayed back to point accusing fingers on others over our failure.

From the way that you sound, one may be forced to assume that you are planning to defect to another party. Any plans to defect from the PDP?

I am not defecting to any other party. We will wait for the macabre dance to finish. Let me tell you, I am from Abia State, I served under Orji Uzor Kalu as a Commissioner and Local Government Chairman who at a time formed his own political party (Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA) and a lot of people moved with him. Ask anybody around here (Umunneochi), I stayed back in PDP because I am not a fair-weather politician and I am not going anywhere. I will stay here and wait, when they finish with what they are doing, the people who have the party will take over. The only thing that worries me is providing help to my constituents who are in their need of help. I am worried that I see some children whose parents don’t have money and they are not in school when they are supposed to be in school with their mates and those of them who can’t get medical care because their parents don’t have the money to provide medical care for them. I am worried that over how many years in this my community that we don’t have light. I am also worried that the little farming that my people are doing is suffering setback because their crops are being ravaged by cattle. But I am not worries about faction in PDP because I know that these people that led us to failure have refused to go and allow the party to evolve and heal. That is not the kind of thing to worry me because I know that the people who have fate in PDP will remain when others have left the party for others.

What is your take over the prolonged absence of elected Local Government Chief Executive in the third tier?

I was in the constitution review in the 6th Assembly, but in the 7th Assembly, we came back to our various constituencies to hold public opinion and get peoples verdict that Local government should have autonomy. We got back and reported the result of those outing. But then, at the conclusion, states voted. I can tell you that Abia voted for local government autonomy because they believe that local government should be autonomous. Apart from states like Lagos, I equally know some states who didn’t vote and so, we couldn’t get the needed two-third majority vote to make it work.

This government (Abia government) is new and I believe that before the end of this year (2016) run out, if all things being equal, he should conduct local government election because Abia voted for it. Tambuwal, the present governor of Sokoto was the Speaker then. Sokoto voted for local government autonomy, this year, he held a local government election and elected local government chief executive are occupying the seat as we speak.

How would describe the anti-corruption battle by President Muhammadu Buhari?

I support the anti-corruption fight, but what we are saying is that it should be open and it shouldn’t be one-sided. Nigerian constitution doesn’t condone corruption. It is not a Buhari thing; it’s there in our constitution. The only thing that I am saying is that the ruling government or the people driving it should be free, fair and follow rule of law because everything that is happening now is imbedded in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We have a law that is governing us and if any government decides to follow the law, it is not going to be a new thing. This government has not signed a new law so to speak, as far as fight against corruption is concerned and I believe that there is no PDP person that is not in support of the fight against corruption going on in the country. The only thing is that they (APC led government) should be free and they should be fair. There should be no victimization; people should be tried according to law, if you convict them, let them go to jail.

Taking the scenario in Abia as an example, do you think that pre-election matters should terminate before the swearing-in ceremony?

Yes, it is good to speak so and it is possible if our lawyers want it so. You know that sometimes, it is not the judge that determines the life span of any case. If the lawyers come with several injunctions, it means that we are going to have a case last beyond the original time which these election petition matters should have lasted. So, I want to believe that there should be collaboration between the Executive, the Legislature and of course, the Judiciary; that’s in terms of amendment to the laws that we already have. But I also believe that no matter how beautiful that the laws are, if people are not willing to comply with it, you will have issues. In the last election petition, we saw most cases that were time bound which also prevented people from getting away with justice. So, for me, I believe it’s attitude; if someone wants to twist the law, he could find loopholes and reasons to do so. So, basically the problem is not in our laws, but attitude.

Do you see Abia producing a female governor soon?

Why not. I wouldn’t know how soon. We still have four years to go before we start talking about having a female governor. You won’t believe it that I supported Nkechi Nwaogu and if she happens to come out again, I will support her. For now, I don’t think that I want to take a shot at the governorship seat, but if I decide, I know that men and women will support me. laughs… my people will even want me to even be the president of the country.

What advice would you give to women who are afraid of participating in politics?

I have been a Local Government chairman, a commissioner, a third term member House of Representatives, am a Christian and I am not wayward. So, nobody is forcing you to anything. You do what you want to do. Women don’t have enough resources. You have many women who are strong-spirited with strong character, but they won’t be able to have funds to run for an election.

    Lawmaker supports small-scale entrepreneurs

Committed to the well-being of members of his constituency, the member representing Mushin Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Bolaji Yusuf Ayinla, has given a boost to businesses of not less than 230 small-scale entrepreneurs in Mushin.

At the empowerment programme, he gave them some items to either start their own businesses or practice the trades and skills they have acquired.

Beneficiaries included the old, young, artisans, technicians, traders, small-scale entrepreneurs, widows and some vulnerable people. The event took place at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi (FIIRO), Lagos.

The items which were distributed to the beneficiaries at the event tagged: ‘BYA Economic Empowerment Scheme 2016’ were 10 tricycles, 12 motorcycles, 25 pepper grinding machines, 10 power generating sets and six welding machines.

Others were two block moulding machines, five vulcanising machines, 40 sewing machines, 30 generating sets and clippers; 28 pop-corn machines, 20 hair dryers, 10 deep freezers and 31 Coca-Cola refrigerators with accompanying products.

Ayinla said the items were what the beneficiaries requested for when he met them at a town hall meeting in November last year.

“During the last stakeholders/town hall meeting, the dominant request was economic empowerment for our small-scale entrepreneurs, artisans, technicians, community development association, market men and women, widows and vulnerable people in my constituency. Today’s economic empowerment programme is a follow-up to the stakeholders/town hall meeting.

He promised that nothing would be spared to ensure that Mushin is known for progress rather than for fighting and hooliganism, which he said used to characterise the area.

The lawmaker appealed to the people not to fight or shoot at one another again, even as he urged them to think of how to develop the area.

He thanked Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for ‘working tirelessly to develop the state for the betterment of the people.’

He said: “It is pertinent to admit that the items to be distributed today are not enough to go round due to the avalanche of the needs of our people. A popular proverb says ‘a journey of a thousand miles begins with a step’. Today, we have succeeded in cracking the hard nut of poverty,” he said. He promised that the programme would be a continuous one.

Addressing reporters later, the lawmaker said the empowerment programme was specifically designed to empower the people of the constituency, adding that there was a difference between needs and wants.

He explained that there are various empowerment programmes in the country, but that some people don’t ask the beneficiaries what they want, saying that he gives the people what they want each time he organised such a programme.

He said: “A situation where people beg for money is not okay by me. If you are earning N3, 000 a day, then it would be better for you rather than begging for money from other people.

“This is a continuous exercise. I will not rest until my people are satisfied because I want my constituency to be better. I want people to know Mushin for better things rather than for fighting. I want the people of Mushin to work and earn money. I want them to be hard working and for us to attract better development to our constituency,” he said.

The lawmaker maintained that he had been empowering people right from his days as a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, and that he travels from Abuja to Lagos every Friday to identify with his people in Mushin.

He revealed that the purpose of the constant visit was to listen to his people so that he could feel their pulse, and that a lot of them don’t know their rights.

BYA emphasised that if anybody cheats someone or does anything the person doesn’t like, the fellow ought to write a petition against the cheat, while promising to spring another surprise as a representative of the people in the next  two or three months, adding that “you have not seen anything yet. I will not rest until my better becomes best.”

The lawmaker called on Nigerians in positions of authority as well as wealthy individuals to assist the less-privileged so that there can be a better society.

On how the beneficiaries were selected, the lawmaker said he told his constituents that anyone that needs anything should go to his constituency office and write his or her name, ward and telephone number along with what he or she needs on a register.

He revealed that he goes through the register regularly and calls the recipients to ask them about what they want. He advised the beneficiaries not to sell the items as he would not entertain any request for money from them in the nearest future.

“If you say you need N10, 000, but you have N5, 000, I would balance it up rather than for someone to come to me for everything he or she needs. I spent over N27m on the whole empowerment programme,” he said.

Ayinla also advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the items to improve their standard of living, disclosing that, “a monitoring team has been inaugurated by my constituency to monitor the effective use of these implements by the beneficiaries”.

  • Lawmaker advises Avengers to embrace dialogue

A Lagos lawmaker, Mr Jude Idimogu, on Wednesday pleaded with the Niger Delta Avengers to embrace dialogue rather than using violence to seek the attention of the Federal Government.

Idimogu (PDP-Oshodi/Isolo II), a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, made the plea in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

The lawmaker said the avengers and other militant groups had succeeded in drawing the attention of the government to the plights of residents of the Niger Delta.

“The attention of the Federal Government has been drawn to the plight and grievances of residents of the Niger Delta.

“They (Avengers) have received the attention of the Federal Government let them give room for peace through dialogue. This is the right way to go.

“Right now, let the Avengers and other groups toe the line of dialogue. They should dialogue and let us move forward as the unity of the country is paramount,” Idimogu said.

He said that the Avengers should not presume that the Federal Government was not sincere with the dialogue until the government failed to carry out whatever resolutions that would emanate from the dialogue.

“You cannot say the Federal Government is not sincere as the dialogue is still open to the avengers and other groups.

“It is after the agreement that you can know whether the Federal Government is serious or not with it disposition to agreements.”

According to him, continuous vandalism of oil installations and facilities will not do the country and the region any good.

“My worry now is that whatever they (Avengers) are doing right now will not favour anybody- the country, the region and even the Avengers.”

Idimogu, however, urged the Federal Government to focus on massive development of the region as well as the empowerment of youths in the area.

“Government has to be careful. The issue of amnesty is not the way forward. We need massive empowerment and infrastructure. Let government empower young men and women from that area.

“By the time the government takes care of the Avengers and they are settled, don’t be surprised another group will come up.

He said that if the nation’s economy was totally grounded, it would affect the region too as what should have accrued to the region would not go there.

There has been repeated destruction of oil pipelines by militants in the Niger Delta, prompting the Federal Government to offer the dialogue option.

    A lawmaker’s outreach for constituents

A House of Representatives member Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejiocha teams up with medical personnel to bring succour to her constituency in Abia State. SUNNY NWANKWO reports

Over 10,000 residents of Umunneochi/Isiukwuato constituency in Abia State have benefitted from Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejiocha’s medical outreach.

For five days, patients were treated for various conditions, some undergoing eye surgeries.

The lawmaker told The Nation that she would always prioritise her people’s health.

Some of the medical personnel came from the United States of America, while others were locally based.

Though the event was meant for Umunneochi and Isiukwuato constituents, patients from neighbouring Imo, Enugu, Anambra and Ebonyi states also turned up and some were treated.

The event was a big relief for families especially, the less privileged ones as their wards, children, parents and relatives consulted well-trained and experienced doctors, collected drugs, reading glasses and also underwent various surgeries at no cost.

Why such an outreach at a time of financial difficulties?

Hon. Onyejiocha replied, “Health is wealth; if you are talking about infrastructure and people who are to benefit from the exercise are not healthy, it will be worthless and a wasted vision. Basically it is my intention to bring good health to our people so as to enable them respond well in any activity that will be going on within the constituency. And also because of the present economic situation not everybody will be able to afford the money for health care services and I believe the best I can do is to partner with some people to bring health care facilities down here.

“I don’t play politics with people’s lives. 90% of people with hernia, lumps amongst others have been operated upon while those with malaria have also been attended to and drugs given to them. The eye problems were given lenses. I have been doing it over the years and have partnered with Living Hope Ministries’ medical team headed by Dr. Sony Acho for six years, though I had been partnering with other Nigeria doctors to carry out this particular exercise even before I become a politician. Everybody have access to it as far as you have any ailment, we attend to hernia, lumps, cataract, appendectomy and others but if there are some major ailments we get referrals and sought for doctors that will attend to them while I also handle the bill.

  • Melaye is a big shame to legislature – Lawmaker

Melaye is a big shame to legislature – Lawmaker

Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Segun Olulade has described the Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, as a big shame to the legislature.

Olulade who represents Epe 2 constituency stated this through a statement issued in Lagos Wednesday, while reacting to threat by Melaye on Tuesday to beat Senator Oluremi Tinubu during a closed-door session of the Senate over the forgery case against principal officers of the Senate.

The lawmaker who noted that Melaye only displayed how hollow he is by threatening to beat another man’s wife, added that the Kogi Senator has verbal diarrhoea and has displayed his unworthiness to be part of the distinguished Senators to sit in the hallowed chamber.

Speaking further, Olulade, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Health Services, pointed out that “no responsible and sane man will threaten to beat a woman, another man’s wife for that matter. Melaye’s action has shown that most of the things said about him are nothing but the truth.

“Any responsible individual that is truly worthy to be called a Senator, a position that convokes respect, decorum and decent public conduct, should be able to manage his temper and anger. The fact that one is a Senator does not impose lunacy on the fellow to disparage others.

“Dino has exposed himself as a simpleton and a court jester whose words and tactlessness cannot be taken seriously by matured people. If at all he has anything to offer, he should concentrate on making good laws for the people of Nigeria rather than looking for cheap and undeserved publicity by threatening to beat a fellow Senator.

“With this recent action by Senator Melaye, he has so descended to a ridiculous level, thus displaying to the whole world his unworthiness to sit in the hallowed chambers of the Nigerian Senate,” the statement read in part.

Olulade, however, cautioned the Senator to start behaving with decorum, noting that as a legislator, “he should be an advocate of maintenance of law and order, how will he take if someone threatens to beat his wife,” he queried.
