EPL: Preview, Team news, Lineups of Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

Liverpool will move top of the Premier League for the first time since September 2021 if they beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the first top-flight match of the weekend on Saturday.

Palace are seven points clear of the relegation zone in 14th and have one win in eight games since the start of October, losing 2-0 to Bournemouth on Wednesday – their third successive defeat on a run of five home matches without a win.

A 2-0 win at Sheffield United was Liverpool’s second consecutive win as part of an eight-match unbeaten run in the Premier League, five of which have been victories.

    Crystal Palace Team news

Cheick Doucoure’s devastating Achilles injury means he’ll likely miss the remainder of the season while the hosts are still without star playmaker Eberechi Eze. The fleet-footed playmaker, however, should recover from his ankle injury before the end of the year.

Nathan Ferguson is another long-term absentee, while Dean Henderson, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and Rob Holding remain out of action.

Left-back Tyrick Mitchell was forced off with a hip problem in the first half of Palace’s limp loss to Bournemouth on Wednesday night and misses out.

    Liverpool team news

The Reds have lost Joel Matip for the rest of the season with a ruptured ACL, with Jarell Quansah coming into the side ahead of Ibrahima Konate.

Alisson is back in goal, replacing Caiomhin Kelleher, and there’s returns to the starting lineup for Kostas Tsimikas, Ryan Gravenberch and Darwin Nunez.

Alexis Mac Allister misses out after collecting a nasty knee cut in midweek.

Trent Alexander-Arnold scored an 88th-minute winner as Liverpool mounted a stunning late comeback to beat Fulham in a seven-goal thriller at Anfield.

Trailing 3-2 in the 87th minute, Liverpool equalised as Wataru Endo scored his first Premier League goal and seconds later Alexander-Arnold completed the turnaround.

Alexander-Arnold had helped Liverpool open the scoring in the 20th minute when his free-kick ricocheted off the crossbar and in off Fulham keeper Bernd Leno.

EPL: Liverpool up to second after beating Brentford

Mohamed Salah scored twice as Liverpool maintained their 100% record at Anfield this season with victory against Brentford to move up to second in the Premier League.

Salah opened the scoring just before the break, latching onto a pass from Darwin Nunez before placing a finish beyond Mark Flekken.

That was Salah’s ninth Premier League goal of the season and his 10th arrived midway through the second half when he nodded in from Kostas Tsimikas’ cross.

Salah – once again excellent on home soil – really should have had a hat-trick, having also volleyed over from a superb Trent Alexander-Arnold cross just before half-time.

Diogo Jota then rounded off another dominant home display with a thumping strike.

Brentford’s best chance had come in the first half, when Bryan Mbeumo raced through on goal but his chipped effort was tame and cleared off the line by Alexander-Arnold.

The victory means Liverpool have 27 points and move ahead of Arsenal on goal difference, while Brentford are 10th.

EPL: Salah double gives Liverpool derby win over 10-man Everton

Mohamed Salah was the Merseyside derby match-winner with a second-half double as Liverpool edged past 10-man Everton in the Premier League.

Salah’s confident penalty in front of the Kop End following Michael Keane’s handball ended a frustrating 75 minutes for the home side and he added a late second as the Reds went top of the table on Saturday lunchtime.

It took the Egypt international’s tally to 201 career league goals and victory maintained Liverpool’s recent dominance over their neighbours in this fixture.

Jurgen Klopp’s side searched for a way to break the deadlock in the second period after Ashley Young was sent off for two bookable offences, with both fouls coming on Luis Diaz.

The hosts had been finding it difficult to make in-roads despite having a man advantage, with many of their efforts from long range comfortable for Jordan Pickford to deal with.

The England international smothered Alexis Mac Allister’s rasping effort and Darwin Nunez’s strike, while dipping drives from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai both dropped narrowly over.

Everton maybe should have gone ahead in the opening couple of minutes but Dominic Calvert-Lewin could only divert his header straight at Alisson.

Dwight McNeil’s curling effort was also deflected over the crossbar, but they were finally breached with 15 minutes to go and again in injury time, leaving Sean Dyche’s side with only two wins in nine league games this season.

  • Ex-Liverpool wanted over missing dog reward

Ex-Liverpool wanted over missing dog reward

An arrest warrant has been issued for ex-Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge after failing to appear in a Los Angeles court.

Sturridge has been retired from professional football since this summer, having last taken to the pitch with Perth Glory in April 2022. The 34-year-old has played for Chelsea, West Brom, Manchester City, Trabzonspor and Bolton Wanderers, as well as Liverpool, across his playing career.

In July 2019, Sturridge issued a plea for people to help find his pet Pomeranian, named Lucci, after revealing that it had been stolen from his Los Angeles home. Sturridge offered a reward to anyone who could help find his beloved dog.

It was later revealed that Foster Washington, an American rapper with the stage name Killa Fame, shared images on social media taking credit for helping Sturridge reunite with his pet. However, it was alleged that Washington had not received the money promised in the reward by Sturridge, which led to a civil lawsuit.

An LA court in December 2021 ordered Sturridge to pay Washington $30,000 (£22,400) as part of a default judgment. This meant that Sturridge, who made 26 appearances for England, did not respond to the complaint.

According to the Mail Online, Sturridge was instructed to return to a court in LA in September for a “debtors exam”. This would have meant that Sturridge would have needed to answer questions relating to his own finances.

It has been stated in the report that Sturridge did not attend the court hearing, with it now being claimed that the former Liverpool striker has now been served a bench warrant. This means that a summons has been issued by a judge to arrest the defendant (Sturridge) and bring them to court, with November 30 being set as a date for a new hearing.

Sturridge appeared on Sky Sports as a pundit on the opening weekend of the Premier League season on August 13 at Stamford Bridge for the game between Chelsea and Liverpool – two of his former clubs. However, the former striker has yet to appear as a pundit for the broadcaster since that day in August.

Representatives for Sturridge have been contacted for a comment.

Washington, according to the same report, has claimed that he has spent more than $10,000 ($8,186) on legal fees as part of the lawsuit. Washington has gone on to say why the case is so important to him.

“For me, it’s a point of principle,” Washington is quoted telling Mail Online. “He promised me the money. It’s a substantial amount of money that could change my family’s life.”

EPL: Brighton, Liverpool share point in thriller

Captain Lewis Dunk scored a dramatic equaliser for Brighton to deny Jurgen Klopp three points on his eighth anniversary as Liverpool boss.

In an absorbing encounter, Simon Adingra fired past Alisson to give Brighton the lead after catching out Alexis Mac Allister, who was making his first return to his former club.

Klopp’s side levelled when Dunk’s misplaced pass ended with Darwin Nunez setting up Salah to sweep home, before Liverpool’s Egyptian forward struck from the penalty spot in first half stoppage time.

It was awarded after Pascal Gross dragged Dominik Szoboszlai down by his collar.

Newcastle 1-2 Liverpool: Alexander-Arnold hails Reds comeback win

Trent Alexander-Arnold hailed Liverpool’s comeback from 1-0 down to win 2-1 at Newcastle with 10 men yesterday  as one of the Reds best ever wins under Jurgen Klopp.

Alexander-Arnold was fortunate to escape a red card after just six minutes before his mistake allowed Anthony Gordon to open the scoring for Newcastle.

Virgil van Dijk was then dismissed inside the opening half hour for bringing down Alexander Isak.

However, the Magpies failed to make their man advantage count and were punished when Darwin Nunez came off the bench to score twice in the final nine minutes plus stoppage time.

“We had to do it the hard way, the very hard way. But we all pulled together, dug deep and delivered something for the ages,” Alexander-Arnold told Sky Sports.

“One of our best performances since the manager has come in, and we’ve had some outstanding performances as a team. We’ll look back on this game as something very, very special.”

Nunez has struggled to live up to his club record £85 million price tag since joining from Benfica just over a year ago.

The Uruguayan is yet to start a game this season, but showed what he is capable of with his pace to get in behind the Newcastle defence and two powerful finishes.

“After we went a man down the team played really well,” said Nunez. “We work really hard for these moments and I am happy to score the two goals to help the team.”
