Lovren: My head is at Liverpool

Southampton defender Dejan Lovren has hit out as his current club and made it clear his thoughts are focused on joining Liverpool.

The Saints have rejected a bid from the Reds for Lovren, an offer he says was for £20million and claims the south coast outfit did not inform him about.

Having expressed his disappointment at that situation, the 25-year-old Croatia international has emphasised that his “head is already at Liverpool”.

He has also made reference to what he regards as a lack of ambition from Southampton, who this summer have seen manager Mauricio Pochettino leave for Tottenham, full-back Luke Shaw join Manchester United and midfielder Adam Lallana and striker Rickie Lambert both sign for Liverpool.

Quoted in Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti, Lovren said: “Liverpool sent the offer and the club haven’t informed me.

“That wasn’t right. I found out about the bid from other people which disappointed me and I realised I’ve got no business staying at Southampton.

“Liverpool sent a B£20million offer and they (Southampton) paid £9million for me, so they would’ve earned more than twice the amount.

“At this point, I don’t know what I’ll do and I don’t like it.

“It was unbelievable that a few days ago I had an offer of £20million. It was in the morning and by the afternoon the club had said I was not for sale. Frankly, my head is already at Liverpool.”

On Southampton, he said: “Honestly, I don’t know who the main man at the club is anymore. They are now looking for £25million, but I don’t think they’ll get it.

“Look, I’d gladly stay at Southampton if the club had any ambitions, if they kept the key players. Not even the Liverpool bid would have dissuaded me.”

And on his suitors, Lovren said: “Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“Only Real Madrid have as many fans around the world. The last time I played at Anfield, I got chills when I heard ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone.’

“I would like to listen to it all the time.”

    Onazi dismisses Liverpool switch

Super Eagles midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi , has played down reports linking him with a switch to Liverpool, insisting he is happy at Lazio.

The Jos-born star told Lazio Style Radio that he was surprised to hear of rumours linking him with a move to Liverpool.

Onazi has hinted that an interview he granted in London may have been taken out of context, and he insists he is happy with his current club.

“I came back from London yesterday morning, some people have told me (about) this interview.

“I did one interview in London, but I was asked this question on Liverpool. This is very strange. I’m under contract with Lazio, and I’m fine here,” MTNFootball.com quoted Onazi as saying during the interview.

The Lazio midfielder has been linked with a move to Everton following his impressive displays in the Italian Serie A and the national team.

  • Man Utd rival Chelsea, Liverpool for Musa Mohammed

Manchester United have joined the battle for Nigeria U-17 World Cup winning captain Musa Mohammed.

The Daily Star says United are hoping to win the race to sign Nigerian starlet Mohammed ahead of Chelsea, Liverpool and Barcelona.

Chelsea and Liverpool have been keeping tabs on the young starlet and were weighing up whether to make a January bid for FC Heart Academy star.

However, United are now ready to trump their Premier League rivals by attempting to secure Mohammed, who has also attracted the interest of Spanish giants Barcelona.

United are also interested in Mohammed’s Nigeria teammate Kelechi Iheanacho.

    …Happy with Anfield switch

Super Eagles attacker, Victor Moses, has expressed excitement at joining up with Liverpool on transfer deadline day, goal.com reports.

The Nigeria international made a late move to Anfield Road after falling down the pecking order at Chelsea since the return of Jose Mourinho to the side.

Moses will spend a year in Liverpool without the option of a permanent deal, something which shows he might still have a future at Stamford Bridge.

“Really excited to be joining Liverpool this season and can’t wait to make my debut now,” Moses tweeted with a photo of him holding up the club’s jersey on Monday.

The 23-year-old is key to Nigeria’s plans for next year’s World Cup and will see this move to Liverpool as a means to guarantee playing time in preparation for Brazil.

  • Carrick: We must respect Liverpool

Michael Carrick spoke with maturity ahead of Manchester United’s clash with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, fresh off the back of a match-winning performance in the Champions League against Galatasaray.

The 31-year-old midfielder grabbed the only goal in Wednesday night’s encounter at Old Trafford and though he was satisfied with the club’s start to their European campaign, Carrick chose to preview a “classic” Premier League match-up.

Carrick told reporters: “Everyone’s got a huge responsibility to respect the situation. Hopefully the football will be celebrated as it’s one of the classic football games worldwide.

“These games are a one-off, form goes out of the window, the atmosphere is that little bit more special. We’re expecting Liverpool to bring their best game and we’ll have to bring ours.

“To play in a game like that, they’re the ones you remember. As a player you appreciate what it means to the fans.”
