  • Man arraigned for snatching iPhone at bus stop

    An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Friday granted bail in the sum of N50,000 to an unemployed man, who  allegedly snatched N46, 000 iPhone at a bus stop.

    Magistrate E. Kubeinje also ordered 28-year-old Olamide Adesoko to produce two sureties in like sum.

    She directed that the sureties must be gainfully employed and provide evidence of one year tax payment to the state government.

    The defendant, a resident of Adebimpe Street, Mile 12, Lagos State, was arraigned over alleged  conspiracy and  stealing which respectively contravene Sections 285 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. He, however, denied committing the offences.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, submitted that the defendant conspired with others still at large to snatch an iPhone worth N46, 000 from one Mr Tunde Ibrahim.

    Ihiehie told the court that the unemployed committed the offences on Feb 16. at 3.00p.m. at Mile 12 Bus Stop.

    He alleged that the defendant approached Ibrahim, claiming that he needed direction to a place.

    “Before the complainant knew what was happening, Adesoko held him and snatched his phone,” Ihiehie said.

    He said that Ibrahim saw the defendant two days later while attempting to defraud a woman.

    “He raised alarm, and people around caught him and handed him over to the police.’’

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that stealing attracts three years’ imprisonment but stealing from one’s employer is punishable with seven years’ imprisonment, under the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The case was adjourned until March 26 for mention.

  • 40-year-old admits stealing pepper

    An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Thursday remanded one 40-year-old Suraju Abubakar who pleaded guilty to stealing 70 bags of fresh pepper valued at N232, 700.

    The court ordered that Abubakar should be kept in prison pending review of the facts of the case and his sentencing.

    Abubakar was arraigned on a count charge of stealing, contrary to Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that one Mr Musa Usman from  Mile 12 Market, Ketu, Lagos, apprehended and brought the defendant to the Ketu Police Station on Feb.14.

    ”Usman alleged that the defendant entered his store at 6.30a.m. and made away with  the 70 bags of pepper,” Ihiehie said.

    The New  Agency  of  Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendant pleaded guilty  and begged for leniency.

    The Magistrate,  Mrs E.  Kubeinje, reserved review of the facts of the case and sentencing for March 18.

  • Police arraign bus conductor for stealing cellphone

    The police on Thursday arraigned a bus conductor, Daniel Annih, in an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing a cellphone worth N5,000 belonging to a trader.

    Annih, 18, who resides at Berger, is charged with theft.

    Insp Lucky Ihiehie, the prosecution counsel, told the court that the complainant, Mulikatu Aderigbigbe, reported the  matter at the Ketu Police Station on Dec. 3, about 2.18 p.m.

    He said the complainant alleged that  she dropped off her phone with a friend’s shop at Ikosi, area of Ketu to charge.

    Ihiehie said that the complainant claimed that the accused went into the shop under the pretext of buying a  bottle of water and stole her  cellphone’.

    The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    After the charges were read to him, the accused  pleaded not guilty.

    In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, admitted the accused to  bail in the sum of N20,000, with one surety in like sum.

    She adjourned the case until Jan. 16, 2019.

  • Man admits stealing motorcycle

    An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Friday remanded a 30-year-old man, Saheed Ismail, who admitted stealing a Bajaj motorcycle worth N220, 000.

    Ismail, whose address was not given, was charged with conspiracy and stealing but he denied conspiracy.

    According to the Prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, the accused committed the offences at 8.00p.m. on Nov. 4, at Forte Oil Filling Station, Ajelogo Road,  Mile 12, Lagos.

    He said that Ismail and one other person at large was caught with a Bajaj motorcycle with registration No. LSD 262 QA, property of Mr Mathew Ebunola.

    The prosecutor said that Ismail admitted guilt during police investigation.

    He submitted that the accused said he would sell the motorcycle to his friend for N100, 000.

    The prosecutor noted that stealing and conspiracy respectively contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Ejiro Kubeinje, ordered that Ismail should be kept in prison custody for the count of stealing.

    Kubeinje, however, granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties for the count of conspiracy.

    She adjourned the case until December 4 for review of the facts of the case and sentencing on the charge of theft, and for mention on the charge of conspiracy.

  • Man admits using bottle to tear another’s face

    An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State will on Dec. 11 sentence a 20-year-old man who used a broken bottle to tear the face of another.

      The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, gave the date following guilty plea by Mohammed Bashir arraigned on a count charge of assault.

    Kubeinje remanded the accused in prison pending review of the facts of the case and sentencing.

    The Prosecutor,  Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, had told the court that Bashir  tore the face of Mr Abdulahi Abubakar  during a quarrel at 6.00p.m. on Oct. 26,  at  Gidan Pali, Ojota Main Garrage, Lagos.

    He noted that the offence contravened Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offence is punishable with three years’ jail term.

  • 11 men arraigned for alleged cultism in Lagos

    Eleven men were on Friday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly belonging
    to an unlawful society –`Eiye’  confraternity.

    The accused : Wahab Fagbemi, 28; Jimoh Azeez, 25; Dele Ajiboye,23; Olumayowa Seun,18; Dominic Adeh,18; Ezekiel Alabi, 18;  andPeter Julius, 18.

    Others are Bayo Shiwoku, 22; Idowu Yusuf, 27; Oyegbelen Ayuba, 25; and Ibrahim Oladokun, 20.

    The accused, who reside mostly within Command area of Iyana Ipaja, a Lagos suburb, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, belonging to an unlawful society and unlawful possession of dangerous weapons.

    According to the Police Prosecutor Lucky Ihiehie,  the accused committed the offences on Aug. 26 at 11.00 p.m. at Meiran area Lagos.

    Ihiehie said policemen from the Meiran Police Division arrested the accused after they received a distress call that some cult members were terrorizing the area.

    He said the accused had gathered for their meeting, but a misunderstanding ensued among some members which led to violence.

    “The accused were arrested with axes and cutlasses.”

    Ihiehie said the case was transferred from the Meiran Division to Anti-Cultism Unit, Lagos, on Aug. 27.

    The offences contravened Sections 42 (a), 51 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

    In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, granted the accused a bail of N50, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.

    Kubeinje said the sureties should be gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

    The case was adjourned until Oct. 2 for mention.

    Man gets three years imprisonment for stealing cell phone

    An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday sentenced Kabiru Mohammed, 27, to three years imprisonment for stealing a cell phone valued at N33, 000.

    The Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat, sentenced Mohammed after he pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing.

    Sule-Amzat held that the convict should served-out the three years without an option of fine.

    He said the prosecution was able to establish that the convict stole and sold phone to one Baba Iyabo at Mile 12 Market in Lagos.

    Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, told court that the accused committed the offence with some others still at large on July 6 at Bariga, Lagos.

    Ihiehe said the complainant, one Ajayi Okikola, a security guard attached to Mile 12 Market reported the matter at the Ketu Police post.

    “While the complainant was on duty, information got to him that the accused had stolen a phone from someone at Bariga and was heading to Mile 12 Market to sell it.

    “The complainant intercepted the accused, who confessed to have stolen the Infinix cell phone from a passenger in a bus at Bariga.

    The offence contravened Section 411 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

    Architect docked over theft of N2.4m

    An Architect, Gloria Odidi on Thursday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged theft of N2.4 million from a lawyer, who hired her for a job.

    Forty-year-old Odidi, who resides on Francis Street, Heritage Estate in Ojodu Abiodun, Ogun, is facing counts of stealing and fraud.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that Odidi stole N2, 413, 250 transferred to her account by the lawyer, Mrs Kemi Omotosho, on March 3.

    “On February 24, the complainant gave the accused a job to renovate a three-bedroom apartment located at Opebi, Ikeja.

    “The money was paid on March 3, and the accused promised to finish the work within a month of the payment.

    “After the stipulated time, the complainant went to her property at Opebi to discover that the accused had yet to complete the job.

    “All efforts to get the accused to carry out the job were unsuccessful,’’ he said.

    The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 312 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

    The Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat, admitted her to N200, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

    She directed that the sureties are to show evidence of tax payment, while one of them must be a blood relation of the accused.

    The case has been adjourned until Aug. 1 for mention.

  • Undergraduate jailed three years for stealing phones

    An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, on Wednesday sentenced a 20-year-old undergraduate, Innocent Onyeoziri, to three years imprisonment for stealing phones in a church.

    The Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat, convicted and sentenced Onyeoziri, without an option fine.

    The undergraduate, who resides on Adaranito Street, Famous Bus Stop, Alapere in Ketu, Lagos, had admitted guilt.

    Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, submitted that Onyeoziri stole two phones worth N62,000 and a SIM card in a Redeemed Christian Church of God parish  on Okunusi Street, Alapere on Dec. 13, 2016.

    Ihiehie said that the phones belonged to Mr Oluwasanmi Olukunmi and Mr A. Agbolade, who reported the case along with one other person, at the Alapere Police Post.

    “On Dec 13, 2016 at 7.00p.m., the complainants were at the Redeemed Christian Church of God on Okunusi Street, Alapere for evening service.

    “During the service, Oluwasanmi was charging his phone as well as the other two complainants – Jaiyeola and Agbolade.

    “The accused came into the church and took the phones of Oluwasanmi, removed the SIM card in the phone of Jaiyeola and took the Injoo phone of Agbolade, and absconded,” he said.

    The prosecutor said that it took Jaiyeola some time to track the convict through the SIM card he used to borrow airtime to the tune of N30,000.

    “On May 10, the accused came back to the church area and was arrested,’’ Ihiehie said.

    According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

     

  • Court sentences butcher to three months for stabbing another butcher

    An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos  on Wednesday sentenced a butcher, Jibril Jimoh, to three months imprisonment without an option of fine for stabbing his colleague with a knife on the chest and left arm.

    The sentence followed a guilty plea by the accused.

    The Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule Amzat, said the court had no option than to sentence the accused since he had pleaded guilty.

    She said the prosecutor had informed the court that Jibril had earlier stabbed the same colleague, Folawole Seyi, and was “forgiven his sins”.

    The convict, Jibril Jimoh, 28, who operates at Ketu Market, Mile 12 in Lagos, was arraigned for causing grievous harm.

    Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that Jimoh committed the offence on April 14 at FO Filling Station at Under Bridge, Mile 12.

    Ihiehe said the complainant, Seyi, reported the case at Mile 12 Police Post in company of some witnesses.
