  • Porter docked for phone theft

    A porter, Isiaka Jamiu, who allegedly stole a Lenovo phone valued at N30, 000 from a man while boarding a vehicle at a motor park, was on Wednesday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

    The 20-year-old accused, who operates at Jakande Market, Ketu,  is facing a charge of stealing.

    According to prosecution, the accused committed the offence on April 20 at Gunwa Motor Park, Ikosi- Ketu, Lagos.

    Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie told the court that the complainant, Mr Oluwanishola Ibrahim, who reported the incident at Ketu Police Station, said he was at the park to board a bus going to Ogun State.

    “The complainant was trying to avoid being hit by a taxi when the accused approached him that he might be harassed by the police because of the bag he was carrying.

    “In the process, the accused removed his phone.”

    The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 which carries a penalty of three years jail term.

    The accused pleaded not guilty.

    The Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat, admitted the accused to a bail of N20, 000 with two reliable sureties, whose addresses must be verified.

    The case was adjourned until May 31.

     

  • Security guard arraigned over 610 litres diesel theft

    A security guard, Mbaalanga Philip, who allegedly stole 610 litres of diesel, valued at N158, 600, belonging to Real Strikers Security Services, was on Tuesday arraigned in a Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

    Mabaalanga, 23, of no fixed address is facing a charge of stealing.

    Mabaalanga was accused of stealing his employer’s diesel, valued at N158, 600, from his duty post at SWAP 109, located at Ogudu Health Centre, Ojota, Lagos.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the offence was committed on March 24, at Ogudu Health Centre.

    Ihiehie said the complainant, Mr Ogungbenle Dimeji, a staff of Real Strikers Security Services, reported the matter at Ogudu Police Station.

    “The accused was on duty; and according to him, he left his duty post without informing the complainant.
    “When he came back, he discovered that the pipe of the diesel tank was removed and the diesel was gone.’’

    He said that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Magistrate, Mrs F. Sule-Amzat, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    The case was adjourned till April 6 for further hearing.

  • Housewife docked for beating woman to pulp

    A 28-year-old housewife, Olotu Chizoba, who allegedly assaulted a co-tenant by beating her to a pulp, was on Wednesday arraigned before Magistrate O. Sule-Amzat sitting at Ogudu, Lagos.

    Olotu, who resides at Bello Street, Ikosi Road in Ketu area of Lagos, is being tried for assault occasioning harm.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 15 on Ikosi Road.

    He said the complainant, Mrs Samuel Nwali came to Ketu Police Station in company of her husband to report the incident.

    According to the prosecutor, the accused had beaten up the complainant’s two children.

    “The complainant confronted her and the the accused, instead of aplogising to her, descended on her and used a big stick to beat her.

    “She also bit her on her right breast, almost cutting off the nipple.,” Ihiehie said.

    The offence contravened Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes three years for assault occasioning harm.

    The accused, pleaded guilty to the charge.

    However, the prosecutor told the court that both parties were ready for out-of-court settlement.

    Ihiehie said the accused had realised her mistake and had begged the complainant and her husband.

    “The complainant and her husband are in court with a withdrawal letter to settle out-of-court.”

    In her ruling, the magistrate struck out the case for out-of-court settlement.

     

  • Businessman in court for defrauding another of N730,000

    A businessman, Imuse Kenneth, who, with intent to defraud, obtained N730, 000 from a fellow man on the pretence of purchasing two fairly used Mikano 50 KVA generators, was on Wednesday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

    Imuse, 40, of Mofowoku Ibetun St., Alapere in Lagos State, is facing a two-count charge of obtaining by false pretence and stealing.

    Imuse was accused of obtaining N730, 000 from Mr Ovba Sunday, under the pretence of getting him two fairly used Mikano generators.

    The Prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the offence was committed since Nov 2015 at Ovba St., Alapere, Lagos State.

    Ihiehie said the complainant, Mr Ovba, came to report the offence at the Alapere Police Station.

    He said the complainant reported that sometime in Nov. 2015 , he gave the accused the sum of N730, 000 to purchase 2 mikano 50 KVA generators.

    “The accused didn’t supply the generators and didn’t refund the money either.

    “He has been dribbling the complainant, until last year when he was reported and made to sign an undertaking that he would surely deliver the said generators within two weeks.”

    Ihiehie said that the accused never fulfilled his own part of the bargain since then and was seen and caught on the complainant’s street, trying to dodge him again early this month.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offences committed contravened Sections 312 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The accused pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.

    The Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two reliable sureties, whose addresses must be verified.

    The case was adjourned until May 17.
