     Malami: The man crying wolf

    • By Sani Mu’azu

The Aesop fables, eponymously named after a Greek storyteller who lived around the 6th Century BCE, also included the fable of “the boy who cried wolf”. This story tells of a young shepherd boy tasked with watching over his village’s flock of sheep. Bored and seeking attention, the boy repeatedly cried out “Wolf! Wolf!” even though there was no danger. Each time, the villagers ran to his aid, only to find they had been tricked. Eventually, when a real wolf appeared and threatened the flock, the boy cried for help again –wolf – but this time, the villagers ignored him, thinking it was another false alarm. As a result, the wolf devoured many sheep, and the boy was left helpless.

The petition authored by the former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, wherein he accused the governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris of importing thugs from across the border to destabilise the state typifies the Aesopic fable above.

The “smoking gun” according to the Malami in this petition or wolf cry was nothing more than his retelling of his last visit to Birnin-Kebbi, purportedly a condolence visit, nay a political circus. Now, condolence visits, at least here in Kebbi State and elsewhere in Arewa, are sombre moments of empathy, reflection, and collective mourning. They are meant to convey compassion, not chaos.

However, Malami’s version of condolence was something else entirely. His convoy was boisterous and extravagant, and could have rivalled that of a sitting president. While there is no law barring anyone from travelling with a long line of cars in the name of a condolence visit, videos from the reception tell a different story: His very loud throng of supporters were not clutching prayer beads or wearing mournful faces; they were brandishing machetes, clubs, and other dangerous weapons.

Simply put, Malami went to piss on the graveside of the deceased, besmirch his memory, and insult the sensibilities of his loved ones. As if that was not enough, he has now added the audacity of dragging the memory of the deceased to the pungent hall of petty politics and national theatrics. As with the wolf fable, Malami came to invite chaos, but when the chaos of his creation threatened to consume him, he resorted to crying wolf!

This is why Malami’s petition to the NSA, the IGP, and just about every rung of Nigeria’s security apparatus comes off as both ironic and unfortunate. It’s beginning to look like every angle of this sordid drama, culminating in his visit to Birnin-Kebbi was orchestrated and pushed out by Malami himself to achieve this exact outcome. Wolf!

In his first press release after the event for instance, Malami claimed that thugs were unleashed from the APC headquarters in Birnin-Kebbi to truncate his noisy and flamboyant condolence mission. While we have been waiting for him to show us any evidence of that claim, he has pushed the boundaries of that outrageous narrative in his petition to now include allegations that a sitting governor, elected to safeguard lives and property and to uphold the rule of law, has descended into importing foreign thugs to destabilise his own state.

Now, while people may consider all this as a very heavy accusation, here’s what I find fascinating: Malami truly believing that such a ridiculous narrative can hold water not at a beer parlour, but before the entire nation. I mean, whoever convinces himself that a governor would sponsor the institution of fear and insecurity on his state just for the sake of one politician. And who is this politician? An almost disgraced former AGF on whose head allegations of abuse of office continue to hover? Please.

To think that a man who once held the exalted office of Attorney General of the Federation would descend to this all-time low peddling false narratives tells you so much about the quality of governance in our nation. This is a man nicknamed “the most powerful AGF in the history of Nigeria,” not because of noble reforms, but because of allegations of underhand dealings and manipulations that characterised his tenure as AGF. This is the same man crying wolf in Kebbi State and attempting to bring the leadership of our state to disrepute.

I reckon that the most galling part of this saga is Malami’s sheer audacity; his willingness to drag the reputation of an entire state into the mud for the sake of petty politics. I honestly do not understand why the state government has tolerated his shenanigans this long. But this particular stunt is dangerous. It seeks not just to undermine the governor but to stain all of us in Kebbi by painting the picture of a lawless land overrun with imported mercenaries.

Malami the politician, if we must call him that, is in desperate need of a reality check. This is the same man who has been repeatedly accused of hiring hatchet jobbers from outside Kebbi State to discredit the state government, all in cahoots with media stations that have long abandoned basic ethics. He thrives on distortion, and now, he’s attempting to institutionalise it.

This is precisely why accountability must be demanded of him. We have all seen the videos—his triumphant entry into Kebbi State accompanied by thugs wielding machetes and clubs. That is hard evidence. If he insists thugs were imported from across our borders, let him present verifiable proof. Otherwise, what he is peddling is nothing more than scaremongering. And we, as a people, cannot afford to entertain that sort of reckless propaganda, regardless of who is spreading it.

The security agencies he petitioned must not allow this matter to slide. Malami must be brought in for questioning. Let him come forward with evidence. Let him show us names, faces, or any credible proof. Because if his so-called “weighty allegations” collapse under scrutiny as I strongly suspect they will, then he owes the people of Kebbi State an apology.

But then again, in a strange way, his antics are a blessing in disguise. By showing his hand this early, Malami has revealed the nature of his 2027 political playbook: a readiness to burn the state down to fuel his personal ambition. His strategy is transparent now: Manufacture chaos, throw wild accusations, and try to play the victim. The people of Kebbi State are watching, and we will not forget.

For those of us who love this state, the message is clear. Malami should keep his ambitions on ice until the election season. But while we wait, we should thank him for unravelling so quickly. The people now see him for who he is and where he has anchored himself politically. By 2027, when the ballot boxes come out, Kebbi State will give him the “condolence visit” he truly deserves; a farewell from the political stage after his mediocrity has been fully exposed.

Malami, APC lawmakers clash over ‘importation of thugs’ into Kebbi

Immediate past Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Justice Minister, Abubakar Malami, is locked in a face-off with All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers from his state ,Kebbi, after petitioning  security agencies that  some politicians are working with foreign mercenaries from the Niger Republic to destabilise the state.

Malami who was in the APC before switching allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) petitioned the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Comptroller-Generals of Immigration and Civil Defence corps that thugs are being armed to “attack citizens, silence opposition voices, and undermine peace in the state.”

His convoy had come under attack early this month by suspected political thugs in Birnin Kebbi.

About 10 vehicles in the convoy were damaged, while some of his supporters were said to have been injured during the attack.

He claimed the thugs operated “without fear of law enforcement”.

He accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of complicity in the attack and asked security agencies to prevent the influx of mercenaries and arms into the state.

However, the state’s  caucus in the National Assembly yesterday dismissed Malami’s allegation as falsehood.

    They called for his arrest.

Former governor of Kebbi State and leader of the caucus, Senator Adams Aliero asked security agents to arrest and prosecute the former minister for trying to create an atmosphere of chaos in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the caucus at a news conference in Abuja, Aliero accused Malami of importing political thugs into the state capital from Sokoto and other neighbouring communities to attack the state secretariat of the APC, leading to a violent clash between his supporters and APC members in the state.

Flanked by two Senators and members of the House of Representatives, Senator Aliero said the petition was false, unfounded , politically motivated and a desperate attempt by an imaginary opposition party in Kebbi State, to “undermine the peace, progress and stability that our people currently enjoy under the leadership of Governor Nasir Idris.”

Continuing, Aliero said “Ironically, it is on record that during Malami’s recent condolence visit to Birnin Kebbi, he hired thugs from Sokoto, Koko and Rara to accompany him into the state capital. These thugs, under his watch, attacked the APC State Secretariat with stones while chanting ‘One term’ against the Governor.

“Their actions led to violent clashes with APC supporters — an unprecedented development in Kebbi politics, which has always been known for its peaceful nature and culture of mutual respect. This incident alone speaks volumes about who is truly attempting to sow chaos and disrupt the peace of our state.

“At no time has the Kebbi State Government or the APC family, been involved in clandestine activities or linked with terrorist groups, as mischievously signed personally by the former Chief Law Officer of the Federation and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

“Kebbi remains one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria today, owing to deliberate investments in security, collaboration with security agencies and the overwhelming support of our patriotic citizens. It is important to note that the state Governor has demonstrated great Capacity and performance in the Security sector above all expectations and this is responsible for the Peace that the state has enjoyed compared to other states since the Governors assumption of Office.

“The Caucus further urges security agencies to focus their efforts on genuine threats to national security and not be drawn into partisan theatrics.”

Kebbi federal lawmakers accuse Malami of peddling falsehood, seek arrest

The Kebbi caucus in the National Assembly has accused former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, of engaging in falsehood capable of breaching the peace in Kebbi state in particular abd the nation at large.

Former Governor and leader of the caucus, Senator Adams Aliero asked security agents to arrest and prosecute the former Minister of trying to create an atmosphere of chaos in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the caucus at a news conference in Abuja, Aliero accused Malami of importing political thugs into the state capital from Sokoto and other neighboring communities to attack the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, leading to a violent clash between his supporters and APC members in the state.

He described as baseless a petition dated 10th September , 2025 by Malami and pledged support for Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State on his tiredness efforts to maintain law and order in the State.

Flanked by two Senators and members of the House of Representatives, Senator Aliero said: “The attention of the Kebbi State APC National Assembly Caucus has been drawn to a petition authored by the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN, dated 10th September 2025, in which he alleged that His Excellency, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), Governor of Kebbi State and other political actors are involved in Importation of political thugs, Foreign Mercenaries and Clandestine Arms Deals in the state.

“We wish to categorically state that these allegations are false, unfounded and politically motivated. They represent a desperate attempt by Mr. Malami, now leader of an imaginary opposition party in Kebbi State, to undermine the peace, progress and stability that our people currently enjoy under the leadership of Governor Nasir Idris.

“Ironically, it is on record that during Malami’s recent condolence visit to Birnin Kebbi, he hired thugs from Sokoto, Koko and Rara to accompany him into the state capital.

“At no time has the Kebbi State Government, nor the APC family, been involved in clandestine activities or linked with terrorist groups, as mischievously signed personally by the former Chief Law Officer of the Federation and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

“Kebbi remains one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria today, owing to deliberate investments in security, collaboration with security agencies and the overwhelming support of our patriotic citizens. It is important to note that the state Governor has demonstrated great Capacity and performance in the Security sector above all expectations and this is responsible for the Peace that the state has enjoyed compared to other states since the Governors assumption of Office

“We call on Nigerians to see Malami’s petition for what it truly is — a smear campaign laced with dangerous rhetoric intended to incite fear and distract from his dwindling political relevance. Resorting to alarmist narratives and unverified claims about foreign mercenaries and terrorism is not only irresponsible but also reckless, especially coming from a former top law officer of the federation.

“The Caucus further urges security agencies to focus their efforts on genuine threats to national security and not be drawn into partisan theatrics.

“We reaffirm our unwavering support for all security agencies working tirelessly to keep our borders safe and our communities peaceful and this sort of negative narratives are designed to undermine the efforts of the security agencies. We urge you not to be deterred. We also urge you to invite to invite Malami to substantiate his allegations.

“As elected representatives of the people of Kebbi State, we stand solidly behind Governor Nasir Idris and the APC administration. Together, we remain committed to delivering good governance, strengthening democracy and protecting the peace and dignity of our state.”

Also speaking, Senator Garuba Musa Maidoki(Kebbi South) described the APC as a peaceful party, saying “We want to put it on record that Malami’s house is less than 50 meters from the APC state headquarters, and if APC is a violent party, we would have had so much clashes between him and our people. But it had never happened until this incident came with a convoy, campaign style, and that sequence to that convoy.

“The national chairman of the INEC has warned that the political campaign has not started. It’s a campaign style moving in order to provoke our people. And we challenge him to produce the evidence that our party is importing weapons. He says he has the evidence. We are not a dangerous people.”

Group berates Malami over ADC defection, says Tinubu’s critics are political hypocrites

The Citizens Alliance for Rule of Law and Justice (CARoLJ) has berated the former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), following his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and his recent criticisms of President Bola Tinubu administration.

In a statement released on Sunday in Kaduna and signed by its president, Aminu Jallo, the group urged political actors to reflect on their own public service records before criticising others, stressing that national challenges require collective responsibility and honest dialogue.

Jallo described Malami’s recent remarks on insecurity and economic hardship as surprising, considering his tenure as the AGF.

He noted that while public figures have the right to switch political platforms and express their views, they should do so with a sense of responsibility and consistency.

Malami, who joined the ADC last Wednesday, said the party offers a platform for national renewal and a solution to pressing issues such as insecurity and poverty, especially in the north.

He also criticised the APC-led government’s approach to governance.

However, CARoLJ stated that national recovery should not be reduced to campaign slogans or partisan attacks.

The group emphasised that sustainable reform demands accountability, institutional strengthening, and collaboration, not blame games or political reinvention.

Jallo urged Nigerians to evaluate all political aspirants — including those seeking new mandates — based on their past public service, transparency, and commitment to national development.

The group highlighted the importance of upholding public trust and promoting transparency, particularly in asset recovery, anti-corruption efforts, and rule of law enforcement.

“The focus should be on strengthening institutions, deepening justice sector reforms, and ensuring that no segment of society feels excluded or underserved,” the statement read.

The group concluded by calling for a more constructive political culture, where national progress takes precedence over personal ambition or partisan rivalry.

    • Wants President to release forensic audit on Commission

    • Says Nigeria was buried under Buhari; Tinubu on rescue mission

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged President Bola Tinubu to release the forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) between 2015 and 2022 to the public for Nigerians to know who collected N48 billion annually from the commission.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ programme, monitored by our correspondent, Wike alleged that Abubakar Malami, the former attorney-general of the federation, “killed the document to protect those who are concerned”.

Wike also dismissed the assertion that Mrs Judith Amaechi, wife of former Rivers State Governor, Mr Roimi Amaechi, is an ‘industrialist’.

According to him, Mrs Amaechi is a trader, not an industrialist.  .

He said: “Judith was the head of the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI), which campaigns against HIV/AIDS, advocates for the rights of women and children, and promotes gender equity and Girl Child education.

“I will resign from my position as FCT minister if my allegation that N48 billion annually was paid from the federal government is not true.”

Recall that during an interview on the same programme on Thursday, July 3, Amaechi spoke about his wife being an industrialist who trades in native fabrics.

But reacting to that claim during his appearance on Channels Television last night, Wike punctured his former principal’s claim.

He said: “Amaechi’s wife is not an industrialist. I call on Mr President to release the forensic audit of the NDDC, which paid N4 billion every month to train Niger Delta women.

“For one year, that is N48 billion. The forensic report audit is there. Who killed it? It was Malami (Abubakar, the former attorney-general of the federation), one of the people who are talking about coalition.

He said: “Mr. President should help Nigerians. Please, release the forensic audit of the NDDC.”

The FCT minister added: “All I am saying is ‘let them release the document. If what I am saying is not in the document, I will resign as the minister of the FCT. I didn’t say the forensic audit was right, all I am saying is release the report”.

Wike dismissed as lies the claim from former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi that he (Amaechi) made him politically.

Wike said rather he risked his life and spent all he had to ensure that Amaechi was made Governor of Rivers while Amaechi was in Ghana and Celestine Omehia held sway as governor of Rivers.

He said: “When he was in Ghana, I would fly to Ghana and he would come to pick me at Ghana International airport with a face cap. I would see him and shed tears.

“In fact, I took a risk on my life for him. I spent all I had. There was a time I called my wife and gave her my will, that I am taking a risk to travel to Ghana, and if I don’t come back, so be it.”

On the claims by Amaechi that he relies on his wife for wellbeing and that he is not rich, Wike said: “It is unfortunate for a former governor (Rotimi Amaechi) to say that his wife is an industrialist when she is a trader. I respect women and rarely discuss them.”

On the comment by Amaechi that Nigerians are hungry and angry, the FCT Minister said the country was dead under the administration of former President Muhumadu Buhari but President Tinubu has rescued the country from economic and institutional death.

He said: “Tinubu took over an economy that was totally gone, the whole thing had collapsed, and Nigeria was about to be buried.”

Wike added that two years is not enough to solve Nigeria’s economic crisis.

Responding to threat by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led coalition to take power in 2027, Wike said: “Tinubu is not Jonathan. The odds were against him in 2023 but he still won.”

He took a swipe at some of the coalition leaders including former Senate President David Mark who is the interim national chairman of ADC.

He said: “The road to Benue that was not done when David Mark was Senate President for eight years is now being done by President Tinubu.”

On the ADC new spokesman, Bolaji Abdulahi, Wike said: “Bolaji Abdullahi wanted to join the APC. He went to meet Kwara State Governor telling him he wanted to write a book about the governor’s achievement (so he could get something). The governor rejected him. That is why he joined the ADC.

“He left PDP in 2014, came back in 2019, lost senatorial election in 2023, left again for ADC after several attempts to join the APC but Kwara State governor rejected him.”

We don’t need to talk about Dele Momodu. That one doesn’t have anything it takes apart from eating food anyhow in a bad manner.

Coalition: You won’t return to power,  Wike tells Amaechi

Speaking earlier yesterday at the commissioning of the rehabilitated Aguma Palace Road and the New Market Road in the Gwagwalada Area Council of Abuja, Wike asked the promoters of the anti-Tinubu coalition to “show their scorecards”.

Of Amaechi, he said: “Because you have left office, you are angry. You said Nigerians are angry. You want to come back to power. You won’t come back.”

Amaechi had on Thursday indicated that he would be seeking the presidential ticket of the ADC and run for one term of four years.

“You never made angry Nigerians happy, but Tinubu stayed in office for six months and you started saying Nigerians are angry.

“They said the coalition has started…When will you stop deceiving Nigerians?

“Somebody came into office six months then you started the coalition. But you had the opportunity to be Minister of Transportation for eight years. What did you do?”

“Eighteen months ago, you started a coalition—six months into his tenure? When will you stop deceiving Nigerians? Someone had only been in office for six months, and you had already begun forming a coalition claiming he hadn’t performed?”

  • Malami, El-Rufai can’t speak for CPC, says forum

Malami, El-Rufai can’t speak for CPC, says forum

Forum of Elected Members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) from the Seventh National Assembly yesterday said a former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, have no right to speak for the defunct party.

The forum expressed commitment to All Progressives Congress (APC) and the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.

Its Chairman, Alhaji Basiru Baballe, spoke at the end of its meeting in Abuja.

Baballe, reacting to comments credited to Malami, said he had no authority to speak for the defunct party.

Malami had questioned the credibility of the CPC bloc, led by Tanko Al-Makura, a former governor of Nasarawa State.

Baballe recalled that CPC, which commanded the loyalty and support of more than 12 million Nigerians during the 2011 general elections, was a formidable political movement.

The defunct CPC was one of the political parties that merged to form APC in February 2013, ahead of the 2015 general elections.

The forum’s chairman said the party was built on the principles of progressive change, integrity and the aspirations of Nigerians.

“It has come to our attention that certain individuals, groups and entities, who had no electoral value during the heyday of CPC, have falsely claimed to speak for or represent CPC.

“Purporting to act on behalf of its legacy and its millions of supporters, we categorically declare that no person, group of persons or entity has the authority to speak for or on behalf of the defunct CPC,” he said.

According to him, only the elected representatives of the defunct party who were duly chosen by its supporters in 2011 can speak for it.

He said members of the forum and many more who stood for elections remained the only legitimate and authentic voice of the defunct CPC.

“We are the true custodians of the party’s legacy and the representatives of the 12 million Nigerians, predominantly in northern Nigeria, who entrusted us with their mandate,” he said.

He, therefore, called on Nigerians, particularly supporters of CPC in the North and beyond, to disregard any unauthorised statements, actions, or representations made in the name of the defunct party.

Baballe reaffirmed the forum’s commitment to upholding the values of APC and ensuring that the voice of its supporters was not misrepresented or exploited.

He urged the media, civil society organisations and the general public to verify the authenticity of any claim related to the defunct CPC.

Baballe also enjoined the media to recognise only the elected members of the Seventh Assembly and Al-Makura, its leader, as the legitimate representatives of the defunct party’s legacy.

He added that, though after the merger, the CPC had ceased to exist as a political party, its ideals, vision and the mandate of its supporters remained sacrosanct within APC.

He added that the values of the defunct party were as valid today as they were during the formation of the APC.

Baballe emphasised that the forum recognised only Al-Makura, the only governor it had produced as its leader, saying it would work with him to ensure that the sacrifices put in place to build APC were not destroyed.

He said the forum would join efforts to ensure that APC delivered on its campaign promises.

2027: APC Forum slams Malami for dismissing Al-Makura-led CPC bloc

The North Central All Progressives Congress (NC APC) Forum has criticized former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, over his comments questioning the credibility of the Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) bloc led by former Nasarawa state governor, Tanko Al-Makura.

Malami had argued that Al-Makura’s group lacked the authority to speak for CPC legacy members, insisting that only the faction aligned with former President Muhammadu Buhari — to which Malami belongs — could determine whether or not to engage with the emerging opposition coalition spearheaded by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

In a swift response on Saturday, the NC APC Forum, through a statement signed by its Chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, rejected Malami’s assertions and accused him of lacking the credibility to represent the CPC bloc or comment on critical national issues.

“Abubakar Malami is in no position to represent the CPC bloc. His tenure as Justice Minister was marked by controversial decisions that weakened public confidence in the government institutions.

“Nigerians are still grappling with the aftermath of the impunities that occurred under his watch,” the Forum said.”

The Forum further accused Malami of undermining the anti-corruption war during the Buhari administration, alleging that he interfered with anti-graft fights and appointments, citing a particular high profile appointment leading to compromise of high-profile cases.

Additionally, the Forum suspected Malami as part of those responsible for the controversial Naira redesign policy and the resultant cash crunch and widespread hardship that gripped the nation in the lead-up to the 2023 general elections.

The Forum also aleged Malami of covertly working against Tinubu during the 2023 election and aligning with those seeking to undermine the current administration.

“He and others from the former President’s camp did not support Tinubu then, and now they’re upset because they have no role in the present government.

“His legacy is one of disruption and hardship, not leadership or credibility,” the statement said.

Reiterating support for President Bola Tinubu, the North-Central APC Forum hailed Al-Makura as a leader of integrity, whose rejection of the opposition alliance reflects his commitment to progressive ideals.

“Al-Makura is a founding figure in the APC merger talks and the only sitting CPC governor during that period. His voice carries more weight than Malami’s when it comes to the party’s history,” the Forum added.

Responding to speculations about Malami’s rumored defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the Forum suggested his recent posturing indicates alignment with opposition forces rather than loyalty to the APC.

“Like Atiku and El-Rufai, Malami is driven by personal interests. His frustration stems from being sidelined after the election, but President Tinubu does not need Malami or his faction to win reelection in 2027,” the Forum noted.

For emphasis, the Forum highlighted the party’s performance in Kebbi State during the 2023 elections where the APC lost despite Malami’s influence, arguing that the President’s victory proved that political figures like Malami no longer hold decisive political clout to affect elections.

Noting that President Tinubu does not need Malami and those he represents to win in 2027, the Forum recalled, “We should not forget that President Bola Tinubu still won the 2023 election even though APC lost in Kebbi State.

“We know for a fact that Malami and his people worked against Tinubu in the election, so we are not surprised at what he is doing now”.

The Forum praised Al-Makura as a true progressive whose leadership continues to inspire confidence among party members and Nigerians at large, stressing, “Unlike Malami, Al-Makura remains a respected political figure with clean credentials and a genuine commitment to the APC’s vision,”.

Court strikes out N1bn suit against Malami, three others

A FCT High Court sitting in Kubwa has struck out the N1 billion suit brought against a former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, while he was in office.

Also sued was a civil servant, Ms Asabe Waziri and two others – the office of the former minister and the Federal Ministry of Justice.

The suit was brought against the former minister in his personal capacity along with Waziri and the two others by an Abuja-based property developer, Mr Cecil Osakwe.

But, Justice Oluyemisi Adelaja, on Thursday struck out the matter, citing lack of diligent prosecution by Osakwe.

“The claimant is the one who filed the action and is required to be seen diligently prosecuting same but they are not in court and there is no reason for their absence before the court.

“They have, therefore, been absent without reason and consequent upon Order 32 Rule 4, this case is ordered struck out for want of diligent prosecution,’’ Adelaja ordered.

It would be recalled that in June 2022, the Federal Government had filed a two-count charge with suit number: FCT/HC/CR/244/2022, against Osakwe for advance fee fraud to the tune of N130 million.

The suit also alleged criminal intimidation of Waziri, a staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, saying that Osakwe had threatened Waziri with injury to her person and reputation with intent to cause her harm and even death.

Waziri was said to have purchased a two-bed property from Osakwe to the tune of N130 million at Maitama, an up-market district of the FCT.

Following the two-count charge against Osakwe, he proceeded to file a lawsuit against the erstwhile attorney-general of the federation and minister of justice.

Others joined in the suit included the Federal Ministry of Justice and Waziri.

Through his Counsel, Mr Victor Giwa, Osakwe sought reliefs, including an order directing Malami to pay the sum of one billion naira to him as punitive damage.

The developer also sought an order directing the defendants to pay jointly and severally, the sum of one hundred million naira to him as general damages.

Mahdi was reportedly arrested in Abuja by men of the Nigerian police on Tuesday, a move that prompted a statement from the embattled social critic’s lawyer, who accused Malami of being behind his client’s woes.

“Therefore, we write to set the record straight for the benefit of the public.

“Without prejudice to the police investigation that is ongoing, the true facts relate to the Complaint/Petition which we wrote to the Inspector General of Police on allegations bothering on  intimidation and obtaining money by false pretence against a syndicate, using GSM Numbers and email addresses.”

Some of the documents which the police retrieved from  the suspect specifically lend credence to yet another petition of our client that bothers on hacking and financial improprieties affecting Hajiya Aisha Abubakar Malami.

“Over N19 million was unlawfully taken out of Malami’s account.”

“The investigation and all the documents recovered thus far are there with the Police for any person that cares to verify what we are saying.
