    Singer Mayorkun drops new single ‘Lowkey’

    Popular singer, Mayorkun has released a new song to thrill fans after a long music break.

    The Mayor of Lagos, as he is fondly called, has been relatively inactive but all that is about to end as he unleashes this track that shows where his heart is at.

    The song is doing well so far as Nigerians have taken to social media to shower praises on Mayorkun for the latest single.

    One Mbah said: “Talking about being Versatile, Mayorkun is up there among the best in the industry. This his new song “Lowkey” is about to be a banger and I’m here for it”.

    “Mayorkun just dropped a new song, this is hard,” another Nigerian wrote on X.

  • Davido, others set to shut down O2

    Hip hop artiste Davido is getting set for his major concert at the O2 Arena in London.

    The show tagged ‘Davido Live at The O2’ takes place on Sunday, and will be hosted by Shopsydoo. To join the ‘Bum Bum’ crooner to rock the stage are Mayorkun, Peruzzi, Dremo, Yonda and Idowest. The DJs slated for the show are Tim Westwood, DJ Ecool, DJ Bibi, and DJ So Good.

    Davido has promised to sell out O2 Arena following insinuations from some quarters that he was not capable of doing that.

    A fortnight ago, he had taken to Instagram to hype the show writing: “For me it’s about always elevating the movement with every step taken! January 27th will be historic! Queen Elizabeth herself go know say we dey town! Don’t hear about it be a part of greatness! #DavidoLiveat02.”

    The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said plans are in the works for a 30-hectare Television Village in Okhoro axis of Benin City, which will attract big-ticket investments from Nollywood, Nigeria’s booming movie industry.

    The governor also said that the sum of N250 million will be allocated to boost the creative industry in the state’s 2019 budget, noting that his administration is committed to creating room for youths to find expression in productive ventures in the state.

    The governor disclosed this during the youth concert organised as part of activities marking his administration’s second-anniversary celebration in Benin City, on Friday night.

    He said his administration prioritises entertainment and creativity as a veritable tool for job creation for youths, adding, “We have been trying to fix roads, health care and education sectors over the past two years. We want to build an entertainment hub. We have 30-hectare premises in the Okhoro axis of the state for this purpose and it will have investments from Nollywood.

    “We want to give youths jobs and entertainment. There is hope for talented youths because we have artistes from the state, who are succeeding and making waves in the entertainment industry,” Obaseki said.

    The governor who was elated by the performance of local and international artistes at the concert, donated N10 million to a physically challenged artiste named ‘Kasali’ to enable him establish his record label.

    “My administration will support talents. We want the world to know that there is ability in disability. The N10 million is to enable him establish his label and promote his music,” the governor said.

    He said a team would be assembled to properly organise the creative industry in the state, adding that the committee will be made up of the Commissioner for Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs as well as local artistes in the state.

    He added that his administration was working to get an alternate source of power supply in the state to drive development, noting that steady power supply was needed to grow the economy, including the entertainment industry.

    “Electricity has been our problem and we are solving it. We say no to Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC); we will have our own electricity company in Edo before the celebration of my administration’s third year anniversary,” the governor assured.

    Performing on the NickFest stage this year are A-list Nigerian musical acts such as Mayorkun, Falz, Simi and Adekunle Gold, the organisers have said.

    The Celebrity Slime Challenge will be the highlight of NickFest as popular personalities are slimed green in an effort to raise both awareness and funds for children support through NGO projects in Nigeria.

    Apart from creating an opportunity for attendees to give to a good cause, NickFest serves as an avenue for children to have fun with their favourite Nickelodeon characters and for adults to let loose and unleash their inner child.

    This year NickFest will welcome more than 4,000 children and families to the Federal Palace Hotel, transforming the venue into a bright orange Nickelodeon and Maltina fun fest.

    Following a successful ‘family-centric’ first year of Nickelodeon in partnership with Maltina, the 2018 edition has now been concluded for  a two-day entertainment filled second edition of NickFest in Nigeria

    This year, the entertainment packed event welcomes associate sponsors Indomie and DStv Nigeria who will be joining in on the fun by creating additional experience zones. TV personality, Ikponmwosa “IK” Osakioduwa returns as a host, joined by Nigeria’s Got Talent maiden edition winner, Amarachi as a co-host.

    Tickets are available at Afritickets for N5,000 each day for adults and children three-years and above, while kids under the age of two have free access to the Federal Palace on Saturday, 29 September and Sunday, 30 September.

    Families can anticipate performances by Nickelodeon’s superstar characters:  SpongeBob Square Pants; Adventure Bay’s intrepid pups, Skye, Rubble Marshall and Chase from Paw Patrol; the energetic Dora the Explorer with her animal rescuer cousin, Diego and her best pal, Boots. The genies who can solve any problem, Shimmer and Shine, are also part of the amazing character lineup and there will be surprise performances by some of Africa’s adored entertainers.

  • D’new features Mayorkun in Popoju

    Budding musician Daniel Ajilore known as D’New has teamed up with DMW artiste Mayorkun to release his song titled ‘Popoju.’

    The artiste expressed optimism for the success of the love song.

    “I feel happy joining hands together with him to move Hip Hop music forward in the spirit of one love in order to promote, contribute and encourage unity in the genre of music in Nigeria and beyond,” said D’new, whose songs include ‘For You’ and ‘Kejike’.

    “It is a delight to collaborate with him to jointly entertain our fans and music lovers.”

    The young artiste also revealed that he was born into music and grew up playing various musical instruments.

    “I started playing musical instrument(s), developed passion for music, as well as love dancing as a young boy. According to my parents, I was dumped in the choir at my tender age when my passion for music was too obvious. My passion for music increased to the extent that I cannot do without listening to song, especially good songs. All these qualities became useful when I eventually took it up professionally and the experience has been awesome. I am confident and loaded to carve a niche for myself in the game.”

  • Mayorkun drops ‘Bobo’ song/video

    Two days after celebrating his 25th birthday, hip hop singer Mayorkun is out with a brand new song titled ‘Bobo.’

    The song which features Davido was produced by Lush and Killertunes while its video was produced by Calrence Peters. Both were released on Monday, few days before Mayorkun is to commence his US tour.

    According to details available, the DMW star is expected to tour 16 US cities, starting in Atlanta and ending it in New York.

    Making the announcement on his Instagram page, he wrote: “New music! Now available everywhere.. ‘BOBO’ feat. @davidoofficial.”

    In promotion of the new song, Mayorkun also posted a throwback picture of his, captioning it, ‘na money be fine bobo,’ a refrain across the three and a half minutes song.

    To celebrate his 25th birthday, Mayorkun’s mother, Toyin Adewale, who is a Nollywood actress, wrote an emotional message for him on Instagram.

    Mayorkun has delivered hits such as ‘Che Che’, ‘Mama’ and ‘Sade’.

    Davido Music Worldwide’s leading artiste, Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, aka Mayorkun, has cleared the air on his alleged competition with the label’s honcho, Davido.

    Speaking exclusively with with The Nation, Mayorkun said it doesn’t make sense to compare Davido with his protégé.

    When asked what comes to his mind when people say he’s better than Davido, Mayorkun said; “I don’t think I have ever heard anyone say that, Have you? It doesn’t make sense to compare Davido with his protégé. I’m learning from him. I don’t think I am better than Davido. It’s actually almost unreasonable.”

    Mayorkun further stressed that, Davido has been his role model, even before he got signed to his label.

    He said; “Davido has been my role model right from Dami Duro. I even did a cover of the song and paid a blog to put it up back then. That shows how much Davido has inspired and influenced me, even before I met him.”

    He however, claimed it will be Davido’s wish to see him making exploits in the music industry.

    “It will be Davido’s wish to see me doing excellently in a few years, I feel like I’m on the right path. So everything is cool,” Mayorkun stated.

    Speaking on his unique selling point among his peers at DMW, Mayorkun said, “Everyone at DMW is unique in one way or the other, I am an artiste who sings using punchlines. You can say I’m a singing/rapper. Everyone else has their own selling point. Yonda is fluent with the street hop vocabs, Dremo is an amazing rapper; he raps and you can hear every single word. It’s different strokes for different folks.”
