  • Melaye, Bruce shun police invitation

Senators Dino Melaye and Ben Murray-Bruce yesterday shunned the police invitation  in connection with last week’s public protest in Abuja.

The senators were expected at the office of the FCT Commissioner of Police for questioning by 10am but they did not show up.

The Police had alleged that the duo were captured on camera for their active involvement in the disturbance of public peace and public safety and unlawful blockade of Shehu Shagari way for many hours thereby preventing road users’ access.

The Police also allged that they were pushing and hitting policemen in a bid to forcibly gain access to the Force Headquarters to cause damage to Police equipment and government property.

FCT police Spokesman DSP Anjuguri Manzah said yesterday: “We have not seen them yet but we are keeping our fingers crossed.”

“We will respond appropriately.  It is an ongoing investigation. Please let us not dabble into it”.

  • Police summon Melaye, Ben Bruce over protest

The Police have summoned Senator Dino Melaye and Senator Ben Murray-Bruce to report to the office of the Commissioner of Police in charge of FCT  on Monday for questioning.

The invitation is connection to the protest in front of the Force Headquarters on Friday by some members of the Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP).

The Police in  an initial statement on Friday summoned the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, Melaye and Murray-Bruce for questioning,  but in a statement in Abuja on Sunday by the Force Spokesman, Ag. DCP Jimoh Moshood,  Saraki’s name was omitted from  the list of those summoned.

The Senators were expected to appear before the IGP Monitoring Unit at the Force Headquarters  for investigation on Monday, but the Police in its latest statement said the duo should report at the FCT Commissioner of Police  office on Monday.

The Police also said invitation letters have been sent to the two Senators adding that the FCT Police Command has the statutory jurisdiction to investigate the matter.

The statement reads: “Senator Dino Melaye and Senator Ben Murray-Bruce are to report to the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Garki, Abuja by 1000hrs on Monday, 8th October, 2018 for investigation and not the IGP Monitoring Unit as earlier stated in the Press Release from the Force Headquarters on 5th October, 2018.

“Preliminary investigation carried out so far by the police into the above mentioned incident reveals that Senator Dino Melaye and Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, who were captured on camera for their active involvement in the disturbance of public peace and public safety, unlawful blockade of Shehu Shagari way for several hours preventing motorists, road users and other members of the public from having access and passage on the highway thereby disturbing public peace and public safety and causing innocent people to scamper for safety and violent attack on Policemen posted to ensure security of the Force Headquarters, pushing and hitting the Policemen to forcefully enter the Force Headquarters to cause damage to Police equipment and Government properties; have case to answer.

“Consequently, Senator Dino Melaye and Senator Ben Murray-Bruce are to report to the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Garki, Abuja by 1000hrs on Monday, 8th October, 2018 for investigation and not the IGP Monitoring Unit as earlier stated in the Press Release from the Force Headquarters on 5thOctober, 2018.”

It continues: “Police invitation letters to Senator Dino Melaye and Senator Ben Murray-Bruce for them to report to the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Garki, Abuja, have been sent to them for compliance.

“The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has the statutory jurisdiction to investigate the matter.”

The Police also said further investigation was ongoing to determine the level of involvement and culpability of other individuals and personalities who were seen at the scene of the crime on the date of the incident.

When The Nation sought to know  position of the Force on Saraki’s invitation, the Force Spokesman said: “Those are the two that have case to answer right now.

“So, if further investigation prove that anybody is involved in it, we will equally invite the person and that is why we said investigation was ongoing to determine the level of involvement and culpability of other individuals and personalities who were seen at the scene of the crime on the date of the incident.”

  • Saraki, Melaye, Bruce ordered to report at HQ on Monday

For allegedly leading a violent protest and attacking policemen on Friday, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Senator Dino Melaye and Senator Ben Bruce have been summoned to report at the Louis Edet House police headquarters on Monday.

This was contained in a statement issued on Friday night and titled “Dispersal Of Unruly And Violent Protesters Who Attacked Police Personnel On Duty In Front Of The Force Headquarters, Abuja”

According to the police, the trio need to report to the IGP Monitoring Unit at the Force Headquarters on Monday because they were  captured on camera, leading “the disturbance of public peace and public safety, unlawful blockade of Shehu Shagari way for several hours preventing motorists, road users and other members of the public from having access and passage on the highway,”

“They were  thereby disturbing public peace and public safety and causing innocent people to scamper for safety and violent attack on Policemen posted to ensure security of the Force Headquarters, pushing and hitting the Policemen to forcefully enter the Force Headquarters to cause damage to Police equipment and Government properties,” the police alleged.

The police  further alleged that with the assistance of miscreants, the trio were “causing innocent people to scamper for safety”..

“Today (Friday) at about 1330Hrs, unruly and violent protesters who are members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in their hundreds with thugs and miscreants inside several trucks and vehicles blocked the Shehu Shagari way in front of the Nigeria Police Force, Headquarters creating a gridlock of traffic on the highway and preventing motorists, road users and other members of the public from having access and passage on Shehu Shagari Way…

“The Police team headed by a very Senior Police Officer despite the provocation, after issuing words of proclamation, warning this unruly PDP protesters who were chanting war songs of ”we no go gree o , we no go gree , we no go gree ”, charged the Police personnel who used minimum force and dispersed them.

“The Inspector General of Police has directed immediate investigation into this unprovoked and unwarranted attack on the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the Force Headquarters premises which is against the law and condemnable .

“The Force will do everything within the law to bring all perpetrators of this crime to justice, no matter how highly placed.

“Consequently, Senator Bukola Saraki, Senator Dino Melaye and Senator Ben Bruce who were captured on camera to have been involved in the disturbance of public peace and public safety… are hereby invited to report themselves to the IGP Monitoring Unit at the Force Headquarters on Monday, 8th October, 2018 for investigation,” the police stated.

  • Melaye’s trial: Court faults IGP for ignoring Senate’s invitation

    *Says Idris’ excuse not tenable

A Federal High Court in Abuja has faulted the excuse given by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris for refusing to honour Senate’s invitation over the trial of Senator Dino Melaye.

Justice John Tsoho, in a judgment on Tuesday, said not only was the IGP’s excuse untenable, the two suits he filed in relation to the Senate’s invitation, amounted to an abuse of court processes.

The IGP has filed both suits earlier this year to challenge the propriety of the Senate’s insistence that he must honour its invitation in person, and the Senate’s subsequent declaration that he was not fit to occupy public office.

The Senate had, by a letter dated April 25, 2018, invited the IGP in relation to the alleged inhuman treatment of Melaye, and the incessant killings in many parts of the country, including Benue, Plateau and Kwara states.

The IGP,who was expected to appear before the Senate the following day, sent the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) and Commissioner of Police, Kogi State to represent him.

The Senate refused to grant audience to both men sent by the IGP and insisted that he must appear in person.

The legislators rescheduled the meeting for May 2 and again directed that the IGP must honour its invitation in person.

Rather than honour the legislators’ invitation, the IGP filed the first suit on April 30, 2018, through his lawyer, Alex Izinyon (SAN), contending among others, that he was not required, under any known law,to honour every invitation in person.

The IGP argued that by the Constitution and Police Act, it was within his powers to delegate responsibilities, including directing some of his subordinates to represent him where ever he was invited, more so that his choice of the DIG (Operations) and CP, Kogi State was on the basis that they were conversant with the issues for which he was invited.

In his judgment on Tuesday, Justice Tsoho upheld the argument by the defendants – the Senate and its President – to the effect that the IGP’s suits were intended at hindering the Senate from performing its constitutional and legitimate responsibilities.

The judge’s judgment was on one of both suits. He declined to determine the second suit on the grounds that having rendered his opinion on one, he would prefer that another judge hear and determine the second one.

He returned the filed to the court’s Chief Judge for reassignment to a new judge.

The judge was of the view that although the IGP could be excused for being unable to honour the first invitation because he accompanied President Muhammadu Buhari on an official trip, there was no justification for his refusal to honour the second invitation.

Justice Tsoho noted that the IGP, having had knowledge of the Senate’s invitation, his excuse that he could not attend the second invitation because he was on an official trip to Birnin Gwari with the General Officer Commanding was “not tenable”.

The judge added: “I do not see any harm that would have been caused if the plaintiff honoured the defendants’ invitation.

“I uphold the defendants’ argument that the plaintiff’s suit is intended to prevent the exercise of the Senate’s legitimate and constitutional responsibility and that it constitutes an abuse of court process.”

He said the IGP’s contention that it would be subjudice to discuss issues relating to the pending cases against Melaye was not a sufficient reason for him to ignore the invitation by the legislators.

The judge said the IGP should have honoured the invitation and impress it on the Senate to refrain from deliberating on the matter that was subjudice.

Justice Tsoho noted that although, from the headings of the two letters of invitation by the Senate, it was clear that the issues to be deliberated upon had to do with a case pending in court, the plaintiff ought to have appeared for the legislative hearing to notify the Senate of the development.

He said : “In this present case, the plaintiff ought to have appeared before the Senate and sought the Senate to ensure that the nothing is done to change the character of the matter in court.

“The plaintiff having failed to do so but chose to run to court to file this suit, the suit amounts to an abuse of court process and it is accordingly struck out.”

The judge proceeded to dismiss the suit.

The second suit, which the judge returned to the Chief Judge relates to May 9, 2018 declaration by the Senate that the IGP was “an enemy of democracy and unfit to hold any public office within and outside Nigeria,” following his failure to honour the invitations.

The Senate and the House of Representatives, at a subsequent joint session, passed another resolution reaffirming the Senate’s “vote of no confidence” on the IGP.

In the suit, the IGP argued that the conduct of both the Senate and its President, Saraki, in the proceedings leading to his being declared unfit to hold public office and an enemy of democracy, was borne out of hatred and “undisguised contempt” they allegedly had for him.

He described the Senate’s May 9, 2018 resolution as an unwarranted “penal sanction” and “a legislative judgment” borne out of the alleged hatred and contempt the Senate and Saraki had for him.

The IGP contended that the conduct of the Senate and its President, Saraki, during the “votes and proceedings” leading to the May 9, 2018 resolution “is palpable of bias, deep rooted prejudice, visible hatred, and undisguised contempt of me.”

  • ‘Melaye, others underdeveloped Kogi West’

A senatorial aspirant for Kogi West on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), William Toyin Akanle, has lamented that senators who had represented the zone in the last 12 years underdeveloped it.

He promised to make the constituency a consortium by tapping into its resources to develop the area if given the mandate.

Akanle, who addressed his supporters after submitting his nomination form, said he would work with other senators to ensure efficient representation for his people, and propose laws that will engender development.

He said: “When I get to the Senate, the situation in Kogi West will change. Because you have honoured me by following me here, everything I will do in the Senate will honour God and Kogi West.

“For a long time, the types of people who have been representing us have not brought honour to Kogi West. Many of them promised but they did not redeem their promises and they want to come again.

“This is the time to move forward; we have stagnated for too long. We have remained at the same spot for 12 years, we have to move forward, and forward shall we move.

“I assure you that if I realise this aspiration, everyday that I wake up, everything new that comes into my head, I will do it for the good of Kogi West, this I promise.”

  • Melaye absent during trial for gun running

Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi West) failed to appear in court on Wednesday to answer the charges bothering on gun running preferred against him and two others.

Kabir Seidu (aka Osama) and Nuhu Salihu (aka Small) were, however, present in court.

Magistrate Sulyman Abdallah, at the last hearing, fixed August 9 for start of trial, following complaints by Melaye that he was attacked on his way to Lokoja to honour police invitation.

Standing in for Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Yemi Mohammed told the court that his client could not be present in court on health grounds.

He presented a medical report to that effect, a move that was not opposed by the Kogi State Police Command Legal Officer, Theophilus Oteme.

The two alleged accomplices, however, applied for bail, claiming to be suffering for a crime they did not commit.

Magistrate Abdallah adjourned the matter till August 21 for hearing of the bail applications of the accomplices and September 20 for hearing in respect of Senator Melaye.

  • Gun running: Melaye absent in court again

The Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, failed to appear in court on Thursday to answer charges bothering on gun running.

He was also absent during the last court’s sitting.

The two other persons charged alongside Melaye – Kabir Seidu and and Nuhu Salihu – were present in court.

Magistrate Sulyman Abdallah had at the last hearing fixed August 9 for commencement of trial following complain by the senator that he was attacked by hoodlums on his way to Lokoja for the trial.

Melaye’s counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), blamed his client’s absence in court on health ground.

Ozekhome, who was represented by one Yemi Mohammed, presented a medical report to support his claim.

  • Melaye accuses police of refusal to release seized passport

The running battle between the Police and Senator Dino Melaye may be far from over.

Melaye yesterday accused  the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command of refusing to  release his international passport as ordered by the court.

He said  that on July 25, 2018, an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court ordered the Police to release his international passport to him following “a notice of discontinuance” filed by the prosecution in respect of charge  ”No: CR/12/18″ against him at  Magistrate Court Wuse Zone 2, Abuja.

The Kogi West senator claimed that “the flagrant refusal of the Police to comply with the court order” to release his international passport amounts to contempt of court.

He said that letters his lawyers wrote to the Police to retrieve the passport were not honoured by the FCT Police Command.

He noted that apart from the letters, his lawyer also went personally to the Police to retrieve the passport to no avail.

Melaye, who said that the Police earlier set a precedent when they released his passport to enable him go for medical treatment abroad, wondered what made the July 25, 2018 order difficult for them to comply with.

He said: “If a law enforcement agency will be the one breaking the law, how do you enforce the law? In a country under the rule of law, if a court of law gives an order  to release a man’s passport, why would the court order not be obeyed. This buttresses the fact that the Police are still after me.

“Since April 22nd, 2018 the Police withdrew my orderly. No politician has been so humiliated the way and manner I have been humiliated. The Police are still looking for me.

“I want to restate that the Police can only kill and injure the flesh, they cannot kill the spirit. I remain strong.”

  • Melaye: Swiming in pool of controversy

The senator representing Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye, is a man associated with a lot of drama and theatrics. So, when the news broke that some of his constituency projects, which were due for inauguration, have been allegedly burnt, not a few Nigerians believed he was up to another political drama. JAMES AZANIA examines this development and some of the political undertones it generated.

AFTER a lull in the spate of controversial activism associated with the politics of Senator Dino Melaye, the senator representing Kogi West District, has returned to the limelight, following the reported burning of some of his constituency projects, which were ready for commissioning in Lokoja, the state capital, by yet to be identified persons.

Senator Melaye appears to be in the eye of the storm, as preparations for next year’s general election take the centre stage.

The police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the burning of the projects. Reports have that some unidentified miscreants torched the projects located within Government Girls Secondary School, Sarkin Noma and Lokongoma Secondary School in Lokoja, Local Government, in the wee hours of the morning, around 2am. The projects include: four blocks of classrooms each at the Government Girls Secondary School, Sarkin Noma, Lokongoma Secondary School Phase 1 and Adankolo Secondary school.

They were due for commissioning, after extensive work by the senator, as part of his constituency projects. The hoodlums allegedly burnt the refurbished buildings, including books and furniture procured for the schools. The projects were scheduled to be inaugurated within a period of four days, with a thanksgiving service to round it off. With the development, the entire programme had to be aborted.

The following day, Melaye allegedly escaped assassination, when suspected gunmen opened fire on his convoy in Ayetoro-Gbedde, Ijumu local Government. The attackers who were allegedly dressed in police and the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) uniform were said to have attacked the senator on his way from Yagba. One account has it that the attackers barricaded the road between Mopamuro and Aiyetoro with vehicles allegedly belonging to the police and the joint task force.

Another source added that on sighting Melaye’s convoy, on his return from the inauguration of his projects in Yagba Federal Constituency, the gunmen opened fire on the black G-wagon Mercedes Benz car conveying the senator.

Earlier, the state government had condemned the burning of four of the constituency projects undertaken by the senator in Lokoja by suspected political thugs.

Some unidentified political thugs had last week Tuesday warned Melaye who is based in Abuja not to enter Kogi. The senator, in a reaction, said he had formally informed the Kogi State Police Command of his coming for the commissioning of various projects in the seven local government councils in the senatorial district.

When contacted the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), William Ayah, said that the command was neither aware of Melaye’s coming, nor the threat by unknown persons that he should stay away from the state.

The suspected political thugs had through unsigned pamphlets warned him to keep away from Kogi State. The pamphlets reads: “Dino don’t patronize Kogi. Stay away, else you will have yourself to blame. Save yourself and remain where you are; keep off from our land. Dino come and reap what you sowed; you don’t respect our leaders, so we do not respect for you. Respect is reciprocal. Take what you get; if you dare us, expect the worse. We warn you.”

The Kogi State Government has been having a running battle with the senator; a crisis that led to his planned but failed recall process from the National Assembly. But in its reaction, the government condemned the burning of the project. The Director-General, Media and Publicity, to the Governor, Kingsley Fanwo, who spoke on behalf of government during an assessment of the burnt projects, said that security operatives have been directed to fish out the arsonists.

He said: “Government condemns the incident. Education is the leading thematic area of the state government and so it will not allow any elements derail it. Irrespective of who is doing the project, the fund is from the government. So, whether it is the executive or legislative, such projects should rather be applauded and not destroyed.

“We have directed the security operatives to get to the root of the matter and unravel the perpetrators and bring them to book. Government will take a decisive action to ensure that the arsonists do not go scout free.”

Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of Operations Mr. Monday Kuryas said the hoodlums forced their way into the building. He said the act was premeditated, as the arsonists came with vehicle tyres with which they burnt down the building and damaged other structures. Kuryas said the police was investigating the matter and will soon apprehend the arsonists.

Governor Yahaya Bello also dismissed the issue, describing Melaye as an “attention seeker”, who may attack himself to get public sympathy. The governor said neither he nor his supporters played a role in the attack and that there is a possibility that the senator staged the incident to gain public sympathy.

His words: “The project that was embarked on by him that was burnt down is highly condemnable. I condemn it in its entirety. Remember the person in question is an attention seeker; remember he has orchestrated self-attacks severally in order to draw public sympathy and I won’t be surprised if he organised that for himself.

“This is a project he started; nobody stopped you from starting it. You continued it and you completed it; nobody stopped you. You are about commissioning it, why would anybody go and burn it down? Why would any right-thinking person go there and burn it down? That is not our character; that is not my own style of politicking. If anything, any development is for the people. The money did not come from his pocket; it is public fund meant for the people.

“So, if he orchestrated the whole thing and turn around to seek for public sympathy, it is most unfortunate. That is the only way I can attribute it.”

Melaye, who had earlier commissioned a block of four classrooms in Taware, Manyare and 10 kilometers of roads, all in Gegu-Beki Local Government and a borehole at Felele in Lokoja Local Government, said it was sad that people who are not ready to provide for his people could do such thing.

He lamented that the schools were built for the communities, but unfortunately some politicians who could not provide projects to alleviate the suffering of the downtrodden turned around and sponsored thugs to destroy the projects. He said no amount of intimidation and harassment would dissuade him from fulfilling his electioneering campaign promises to the people of his constituency.

Commissioner for Education, Mrs Rosemary Osikoya, who was among the government officials that visited the scene, said the Bello administration will not fold its arms and allow the arsonists go scot-free.

She said: “Exams are ongoing and these building have been used since January 2018. We expect that people will respect the sanctity of education. This act was masterminded and not accidental. The buildings were burnt, including the chairs. If not for the some serving corps members around, who tried to put out the flame, it would have been worse than this.

“We appeal to everybody to collaborate with us in education and not use it as a meeting point for political sabotage. This is a dastardly act. The state’s interest should be paramount, rather than the individual political ego.”

Also, the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Prince Matthew Kolawole, condemned the act. He said on no account should anyone destroy any constituency project facilitated at both the state and national levels. He added that it is the height of irresponsibility for anyone to embark on the callous vandalization of projects facilitated by Senator Melaye.

Kolawole assured that the hoodlums would be tracked down by security operatives and be made to face the full wrath of the law. He said, as a legislator, it will be painful to see projects facilitated through his office for the people being destroyed by some bad elements in the society.

The Speaker called on the security agencies to live up to their responsibilities, by providing adequate protection for citizens, their properties and infrastructures.

A community leader, Mallam Shehu Zoro, said what happened was not just barbaric, but uncivilized, adding that some politicians are taking things too far. He said: “If you say you are against Dino, how does that affect projects meant to uplift the standard of education of which the Senator is just a facilitator. Those behind the burning of the schools and their sponsors, God will surely pay them back.”

There was also a reported attack on the convoy of Senator Melaye last Thurday. The senator insisted it was another assassination attempt on him, perpetrated by uniformed men. The accusation has earned him another invitation by the police. The lawmaker has said that he will honour the invitation. He gave the assurance last Saturday, a day after the police accused some persons in his convoy of attacking their personnel in Kogi State; a claim the lawmaker described as false.

His words: “The account of the police is false and illogical. I will honour the invitation of the Kogi State Police Command on Thursday, despite the attempts on my life.”

Melaye had accused the police of shooting at his convoy on his way to inaugurate a project at his constituency. He said while the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) deployed some personnel to escort him, there was no provision made by the police to that effect.

Contrary to Melaye’s claim, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ali Janga, said the police opened fire in self-defence, after some individuals in the senator’s convoy allegedly shoot at them.

He said: “Unidentified civilians inside (a vehicle in the convoy) decided to open fire on my policemen. You don’t expect the police to fold their arms. So, eventually, they replied and opened fire too.”

Melaye, who was expected to be in court on Thursday in Kogi in the criminal charge preferred against him, will hopefully honour the police invitation on the same day.

Meanwhile, the senator’s moves to return to the upper legislative chambers on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have already started generating mixed reactions. Some stakeholders are kicking against the idea of an automatic ticket for defecting APC lawmakers ahead of the 2019 general elections.

One of the leaders of delegation from across the seven local governments that make up Kogi West senatorial district, Otunba Bayo Yusuf, frowned at the attempt to offer automatic tickets to aspirants who are defecting to the party.

  • I was on top of tree for 11 hours – Melaye

CONTROVERSIAL senator Dino Melaye (Kogi West) yesterday explained his alleged abduction last week.

Senator Ben Murray Bruce  alleged that Melaye was abducted on Thursday when he was expected to attend a court sitting on illegal arms possession in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

Malaye told reporters yesterday that he was not abducted by some “gunmen”, who he alleged tried to attack him, but he escaped into the bush “to avoid the attack”.

Many Nigerians took his reported abduction with a pinch of salt going by social media comments.

Melaye said he left Abuja early in the morning on Thursday to Lokoja, when he realised that a Siena car was trailing him.

The occupants of the car, he said, overtook, block and started shooting at his vehicle.

He said when the suspected assassins realised that his vehicle was a bulletproof one, they halted his movement and attempted to burn his car.

Melaye said: “When I realised that they wanted to burn my vehicle, I quickly opened the car and ran into the bush. I had to run for my life. It was the grace of God that made me to escape.

“When I got into the bush, I climbed a tree and stayed there. While on the tree, I saw two of the policemen coming to look for me, but they didn’t know I was on the tree. I was in the bush for 11 hours.

“My brother that was in one of the vehicles didn’t know what happened. So, he had to raise an alarm that I was kidnapped. He went to the Gwagwalada police station and reported the matter. At first, they wanted to act, but when one of them made a call, they started tossing my brother up and down.

“They then asked him to go and wait for them at the scene, that they would join him. But he waited for more than 45 minutes, they didn’t come. So, it’s not true for the police to say that none of my family members reported the matter.”

Melaye noted that the claim that he staged his alleged kidnap to avoid attending the court session in Lokoja was not true.

He said: “If anything happens to me, the Nigerian Police and (Kogi State) Governor Yahaya Bello should be held responsible.

“I went through four assassination attempts as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, but the President remained silent. Definitely, I’m going to call the attention of the international community.

“They withdrew my security since April 22, and I wrote the police to restore my security, but nothing was done. As a senator, I deserve security personnel around me. In fact, even as an ordinary citizen, I deserve security.”

Asked if he would go to Kogi State freely to seek reelection, the senator insisted that he would go at any time and that he would re-contest his position.

On his defection from All Progressives Congress (APC) to People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Melaye said the PDP under the leadership of Uche Secondus was sincere enough to apologise to Nigerians for its mistakes of the past and that the party was now poised to make Nigeria great.
