  • NPFL: MFM Coach accepts defeat to IfeanyiUbah FC

Coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu has taken full responsibility for MFM’s 4-0 defeat to FC Ifeanyiubah in Matchday 2 fixture of the 2016/17 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) played in Nnewi on Wednesday, January 18.
The MFM Coach was obviously unhappy with how events unfolded in the encounter that saw two of his key players sustaining Injuries in the first half of the exchange, has accepted the blame for the loss as he focused on the next league match.
In an interview Ilechukwu said: ” For yesterday’s game, I have to take the blame because I introduced new players to the starting line-up who didn’t start against Niger Tornadoes and that was the problem.
“I did that because of the marathon nature of the league, so I decided to start new five players so that I can rest some players for the next game but at the end it turned that way.
“Secondly, in the first half, two of our players were injured and that forced me to change the game plan by bringing in two players and the changes really affected my tactics and game plan but at the end of the day excuses can’t help the situation.
“So I take the blame for everything that has happened and the loss against FC Ifeanyiubah,” he told mountaintopfc.com.
MFM FC will host Lobi Stars in Matchday 3 of the NPFL coming up this Sunday, at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium in Lagos and the manager has said that his side have no option other than winning.
“We can’t expect anything less than winning because we can’t lose 4-0 and come to our home and draw or lose.
“The thing here is that we have put the loss behind us and concentrate on the next match which I believe by God’s grace winning is 100 per cent sure,” the Nnewi born tactician stated.

    Ilechukwu unhappy with MFM’s finishing

MFM FC head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu has admitted the poor conversion rate of his team has become a major concern after losing at home to Plateau United on Sunday.

The NPFL debutants announced their arrival on the big stage with a win away to Nasarawa United, but lack of consistency has seen them drop below mid-table and a lack of turn around may see the debutants drop further down.

The Olukoya Boys have now suffered two defeats at home for the first time since they adopted the Agege Stadium as their ground in 2012.

“I am very disappointed, we created beautiful and clear cut chances but we struggled to convert, one could still term it hard luck,” Ilechukwu told Goal.

“Converting those chances has become a major challenge but we won’t give up as we continue to find the right mix to solve this problem. We shall continue to push for a solution because this isn’t the time to go on a blame game but we shall continue to motivate and instill the belief that they can do it.

“I’m worried that we have dropped in form. I am even disturbed that we have lost twice at home but I know my team, I know that they have the champion instinct in them and I know that we shall rediscover our form.”

Former Heartland and Kano Pillars hitman, Kabiru Umar scored the match winner to hand his side a vital away three points.

Baraje said tactical discipline proved decisive to hand his side the winner in the clash against difficult and great side, MFM FC.

“It’s a difficult match playing a quality side like Mountain of Fire Miracles Ministries (MFM) FC at their fortress in Agege, Lagos.

“MFM FC are not walkovers they put every pressure to even scores but did not yield the desired result because I told my wards to calm down, absorb the pressure and chance a counter.

“I used two weeks to prepare for the match at MFM FC because I know the quality in the side and the uphill task in the matchup.

“My wards are quite exciting and good and were tactically disciplined in the game.

“They played strictly to instruction so I can say that tactical discipline contributed greatly to the hard fought victory.

“Of course, we are gradually climbing out from the uncomfortable zone though not yet completely out of it.

“There is still work to be done as we have quality opposition in the remaining matches on the calendar.

“We just have to work even harder to consolidate on our recent successes and hopefully we will escape the drop,” said the former Akwa United and Enyimba coach to supersport.com.

The away win at MFM FC has upped the Jos landlords total earnings to 36 points, 12 adrift league leaders, Enugu Rangers.

“We played a perfect game against Enyimba, both from the performance and result level,” Silas told Goal.

The Lagos derby victory saw MFM move to 9th spot on the log with 33 points from 23 matches, while Ikorodu United are rooted at the base on 15 points with two matches to spare.

Ifeanyi told SportingLife after the encounter that the victory has given the team the bragging rights over their neighbours as they continue their quest for a continental ticket this season.

“They (MFM) boasted they will come out here to die on the field and beat us. We knew the game was going to be tough, but we needed to prove to them we are the Lagos champions and glory to God we won.

“We always take every game as it comes. For the players, we have the top four on our mind from the beginning of the season. Being in the league for the very first time we had it in mind that we are better than any other team. Even the likes of Barcelona sometimes drop form and sometimes they pick up. So despite what is happening to the team, we know we will come up and make that top four. We are still focused,” the former Nigeria Under-20 midfield maestro said.

MFM compound Ikorodu Utd’s relegation woes

Mountain of Fire Football Club FC breezed past Ikorodu United 3-1 in Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League game at the Agege Stadium.

Goals from Sikiru Olatunbosun, Stephen Odey and Ifeanyi Ifeanyi were all the Olukoya Boys needed to tear apart the Oga Boys in the Lagos derby watched by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

Both sides came into this fixture in poor form, MFM without a win in their last four games in all competitions while Ikorodu United were looking for their first away win of the season.

Obanor Erhun took the resultant free kick, which was spilled by Oga Boys’ keeper Fatunwase into Olatunbosun’s path who had the simple task of tucking in the rebound.

Just as MFM were threatening to run away with the game at this point, an error by Obanor in the 19th minute handed Ikorodu United a lifeline back into the game. The MFM midfielder fouled menacing Ebiye and the referee did not hesitate to point to the spot with  Fatai Abdullahi netting the equaliser from the penalty spot.

Oga Boys could have taken the lead on the stroke of half time as Ebiye breezed past his markers and was about pulling the trigger beore Atu Paul cleared his low cross to safety.

Substitute Onuwa stamped his authority on the game with his first touch, sending Musa through on goal but the MFM winger couldn’t convert for his side to retake the lead.

Odey netted from close range as the Olukoya Boys retook the lead with  Ifeanyi’s penalty guaranteeing victory as Theo de Jong’s men returned home with heads bowed low.
