    Filmhouse Cinemas out with mobile app

    The management of Filmhouse Cinemas, one of the largest cinema providers in Nigeria, has announced the launch of a new mobile app through which guests can buy tickets at their convenience anywhere in the country.

    A statement from Filmhouse Cinemas reads; “it is with great pleasure that the management of Filmhouse announce the re-launch of its website, complete with an online ticket booking portal. What this means is that guests now have the opportunity to buy movie tickets online from the comfort of their homes ahead of a visit to the cinema.”

    Currently the Mobile App is available only for Android devices only and it gives users the chance to view movie schedules, read brief and highly informative movie previews, and helps locate the nearest Filmhouse cinema to one’s location.

    “At Filmhouse cinemas, we take two things very seriously; the experience and the convenience. With the launch of our online ticket booking website, we are thrilled to have once again answered the call of our loving guests. I would implore our guests to take up the convenience of booking tickets online as they make plans to see their favorite movies,” said Kene Mkparu, CEO/MD Filmhouse Cinemas.

    To celebrate the launch, he said Filmhouse would be giving everyone the chance to win free tickets, internet data and mobile phones. To win, interested individuals are required to follow Filmhouse cinemas online and answer a simple movie trivia.

  • Visa backs financial literacy mobile app

    Visa International, a global payment firm, has announced a mobile application development challenge, meant to stimulate the development of innovative web, mobile applications and games. The platform is also expected to assist in teaching money management skills and supporting the advancement of financial literacy in the country.

    In a statement, the firm said the Financial Literacy Challenge is sponsored by Visa and delivered by the Co-Creation Hub Nigeria, using their unique approach of involving stakeholders in the co-creation of new products and services.

    “The challenge will bring key financial services players like the Central Bank of Nigeria, commercial banks, personal finance Non- Governmental Organisations and other stakeholders together with software developers and designers, to create interesting applications and games. These applications and games will advise Nigerians on how best to manage their money and financial affairs, and also educate them on the tools available to meet their financial needs,” the statement said.

  • Lagos to host mobile apps summit

    LAGOS State may soon host mobile application summit, expected to draw key players in the industry together.

    With Unleasing the power of mobile application as its theme, the event is being backed by 70th Precinct and E2 Marketing.

    The firm’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Osamede Umweni, said: “The summit will bring together the brightest minds in mobile technology. We are gathering over 300 of the most interesting mobile app developers, investors, company executives, entrepreneurs, brand managers, policy-makers, marketers, carriers, content developers and aggregators, advertisers, mobile devices manufactures and the press for a day of in-depth discussion, and powerful networking on the future of mobile applications in Nigeria.”

    He frowned at a situation where local content in the mobile phone industry is less than one per cent 12 years after the revolution.

    He said Gatner (a market research firm) estimates that mobile phone users will pay more than $25billion to buy ‘mobile applications’- games, social networking tools, productivity and entertainment – based mini programmes for mobile phones despite the fact that 80 per cent of these will be free downloads this year.
