  • Italian giants Juvetus woo Mohamed Salah with €200 million

Italian giants Juventus are ready to dole out €200 million to have Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah it has been revealed.

The Egypt international has continued to impress for the Reds in his second season at the club, having joined the Merseyside outfit from AS Roma ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.

Salah, who scored 44 goals across all competitions in his debut season at Anfield, has already found the back of the net on 20 occasions this season.

The 26-year-old enjoyed a successful spell in the Serie A at first Fiorentina and then Roma who he left in favour of the Reds for a reported €42 million.

Sky News Arabia, though, report that the Old Lady are willing to pay more than four times that price in an attempt to lure Salah back to Italy.

Juventus have further signaled their intent to fight for UEFA Champions League glory with the purchase of Cristiano Ronaldo who has taken the Italian League by storm this season.

The Italians next face Frosinone in the league before travelling to the venue of this year’s Champions League final to take on Atletico Madrid in a Round of 16 first-leg tie next week. Arsenal ace Aaron Ramsey only few days back signed a deal that will see him join Juve at the end of the season and will going home with about £400k-a-week.

Should the desire to have Salah materialise, Juve would have beefed up with three heavy weight players after grabbing former Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo just after the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Egypt will be hosting this year African Cup on Nations in June and the pharaohs are banking on the Salah to lift the team as they aim to win the continental title for the 8th time.  The last time Egypt won the title was in 2010 in Angola.

Egyptian forward, Mohamed Salah has won the 2018 African Player of the Year award, beating Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Senegal’s Sadio Mane to the prize.

This is his second award, having won the last edition.

He has become the fourth player after El Hadji Diouf, Samuel Eto’o, Yaya Toure to win the award back to back.

The Liverpool forward, who scored two goals in the 2018 FIFA World Cup,  helped Jurgen Klopp’s men end as runners-up in the UEFA Champions League, scoring 44 goals across all competitions in the process.

Receiving the award from Geroge Weah, President of Liberia and former World footballer of the year, Salah said: “As a child l have always dreamt of a day like this and l am happy that it has come to pass.”

Other awards saw the Super Falcons of Nigeria win the female national team of the year, after clinching the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations title in South Africa and Morocco’s Herve Renard win the men’s coach of the year.

South Africa striker, Chrestinah Kgatlana dethroned Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala to win the Women player of the year award. She scored six goals in the Women’s Nations Cup for THE Bayana Bayana.

  • Mohamed Salah Emerges SuperSport Player of the Month

Liverpool and Egyptian star, Mohamed Salah is Supersport’s pick for the November 2018 Player of the Month.

The Sports TV network finds Salah worthy of the feat as he is back to his signature showstopping play-manship despite his slow start this season,

Salah helped Liverpool secure a 3-0 away win over Watford, which kept them in touch with Premier League pacesetters Manchester City. The 26-year-old opened the scoring at Vicarage Road to pave the way for an emphatic Reds victory, which also featured goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino.

The Egyptian was thrown under the bus by critics for a solid but unspectacular start to the 2018/19 season. However, things have been looking up for him since the middle of October.  The winger has scored eight goals and provided two assists for club and country and also managed to become the fastest player to ever reach the 50-goal mark for Liverpool.

Additionally, Salah has been shortlisted for the prestigious BBC African Footballer of the Year award which he is widely expected to win for a second successive time.

Salah’s combination of strong performances and his humble, down-to-earth demeanour have earned him praise from his fellow professionals. Brighton & Hove Albion’s Cameroonian defender Gaetan Bong believes even if Salah is not scoring, his attacking contribution is always a positive one.

“He has everything, he’s top scorer,” Bong told BBC Sports. “He is a good player and good on the ball, strong and always working hard. You might not see it sometimes but when you are on the pitch, he is making a lot of runs, a lot of strong runs.”

Veteran Ivorian attacker Gervinho (who was a candidate for this Player of the Month after becoming the top-scoring African in the Serie A this season) was a teammate of Salah’s at Italian giants Roma and believes the hard work the Egyptian puts in at the gym underscores his on-pitch brilliance.

“Salah is a tough guy,” the Parma attacker told the Guardian. “Always calm and strong, with the mentality of a hard worker.

“I’ll never forget his training sessions: very high rhythm, pushed like a madman, you watched him in amazement. He had a sort of positive effect – you saw Salah and wanted to work harder. Talent and sacrifice.”

  • Messi eats at his own table- Alba

Lionel Messi’s mesmeric display in Barcelona’s 4-2 Champions League win over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, proved yet again, that he is a class above the world’s other top players, team mate Jordi Alba, has said.

Messi ran amok at Wembley Stadium, slicing Spurs apart with incisive passes from deep, such as the one that allowed Philippe Coutinho to open the scoring.

He was as dangerous as ever in front of goal, firing in the Catalan side’s final two goals to end their winless run of three games.

“Messi eats at his own table; he plays on another level to the rest.

“When Leo goes on a run, all the rest of us can do is grit our teeth. He is the best in the world and he makes all of us a little bit better,” Barca defender Alba told reporters.

Messi was a surprise absentee from the three nominees at FIFA’s The Best awards ceremony last week in London, where Real Madrid’s Luka Modric was crowned Player of the Year ahead of Mohamed Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“For me `The Best’ is a lie,” said Alba.

Rakitic, the scorer of Barca’s second goal, said Messi was one of a kind.

“With respect to the other players, Messi is unique. Sometimes a player has a great season like Modric did, but we all know Messi is different,” he added.

Wembley is a happy hunting ground for Barcelona, who won their first European Cup there in 1992.

They also beat Manchester United 3-1 at the venue in the Champions League final in 2011.

“If we played like this every day then we’d win every competition every year.

“If we do things in the right way and work as a team, it’s very difficult to beat us. If we all fight for the same objective the results will come,” said Alba

The victory keeps Barca joint top of Champions’ League Group B with Inter Milan, who they play next, and saw them snap a run of four Champions League away games without a win.

“There are some games you look forward to a lot and this was one of those and we’re very happy with how the players responded,” added Coach Ernesto Valverde, who had faced heavy criticism in the media in the build up to the game.

“I hope the fans are too,” he said.

  • Expect no less than before at Russia 2018 as quarter-finals get underway

The 2018 FIFA World Cup enters the quarter-finals stage on Friday, with the France versus Uruguay fixture at Nizhny Novgorod kicking off a two-day line-up of four potentially-explosive matches.

The quarter-finals have come with the usual expectations and surprise element of any tournament of this nature, yet they have not come without a trace of the unexpected.

The first round/group phase did not do so much to shock us, other than see off title-holders Germany, world number 10 Poland and the five African sides.

However, the Round of 16 has lived up to expectations, not just with the exit of 2010 champions Spain, two-times champions Argentina and Portugal, but the teams’ star players.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Andres Iniesta, Isco, Diego Costa, Angel Di Maria,Gonzalo Higuain, Ricardo Quaresma, Sergio Ramos and Javier Mascherano are now watching the competition from their homes.

They joined the likes of Tony Kroos, Thomas Muller, Mikel Obi, Victor Moses, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Manuel Neuer and Robert Lewandowski who had been on the sidelines pretty much earlier.

Their situation, very much unfavoured, is what the likes of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani, as well as Paul Pogba, Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe will now try to avoid.

France with their array of megastars such as Pogba, Mbappe, Griezmann, Olivier Giroud and N’Golo Kante will be wary of what Suarez and Cavani can do upfront.

But the Uruguayan defence line should worry them much more, with the Atletico Madrid defensive pair of Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez at the centre of affairs.

Later on Friday, Belgium who made an incredible comeback from two goals down to win 3-2 will face Brazil at Kazan and knowing that a confrontation with Brazil or Belgium awaits.

Brazil should rather be wary of Belgium, with Eden Hazard and Romelo Lukaku, have gone 23 games unbeaten and have the best record at this tournament so far.

They have won all their matches so far, scoring 12 and conceding four goals, but the grittiness which saw them through against Japan is something Brazil will need much of.

Brazil have struggled to survive against Switzerland, Costa Rica and Serbia, in spite of Neymar, Willian, Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Casemiro, Gabriel Jesus and Marcelo not looking out of form.

However, the fact that they have not conceded again since the only goal against Switzerland in their opening match is something Belgium will have to think a lot about.

England have been thinking so much that they now have a good chance of another World Cup win since 1966, with the tournament draw being good to them.

They do not to have to face the likes of France, Uruguay, Brazil or Belgium until July 15, and they feel Sweden may not be too much headache.

But when they face off on Saturday in Samara, they will have to contend with a side which has shown so much resilience, even in the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

They beat The Netherlands and Italy in qualifying for Russia, made life difficult for Germany and beat South Korea and Mexico in Russia, and eliminated Switzerland in the Round of 16.

Usually a quiet side, Sweden can bring down England if they keep under check Harry Kane and Jesse Lingard, as well as likely substitutes Marcus Rashford and Jamie Vardy.

The good thing for the Swedes is that, in spite of Kane’s leading goalscorer status, England do not have what they do not have, and this makes the game balanced.

Russia have not disappointed so far, and it is a good preview for them as they head to Fisht Stadium in Sochi to host Croatia on Saturday.

It is a likely quiet and not-extraordinary game, with Russia being the lowest FIFA-ranked team at the tournament.

While Russian hopes have risen since the penalty kicks shootout defeat of Spain, it may just serve the hosts well not to count their chickens b efore they are hatched.

Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic have provided the needed midfield inspiration, while Mario Mandzukic and Ivan Perisic have spearheaded offensive runs which have produced not goals but team game stability.

The Croats are aware of their capability and Modric, while speaking at their pre-match press conference on Wednesday, said team compatibility is a weapon they would use to great effect.

“We know it is going to be tough against Russia, especially as they are the hosts, but we know ourselves and what we can do. We will do it as expected,’’ he said.

However, will they be able to reenact the performance that led them to the 1998 semi-finals in France, having to play against a team and its expectant nation of 144 million?

It is however Russia’s best World Cup run since the 1966 semi-finals appearance, and they will want to go further than this quarter-finals stage not just because they are the hosts.

They have shown good strength of character with the way they overcame Spain, and swung their compatriots who never believed in them before behind them.

While they can shock the Croats, and which can happen, it may just be one other shock in a tournament that is still capable of bringing up more shocks.

  • Salah signs new long-term deal with Liverpool

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has signed a new long-term contract with the club, the Premier League side said on Monday.

Salah had a remarkable first season with Liverpool, scoring 44 goals in all competitions and helping the club reach the Champions League final.

He was named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year and Football Writers’ Association’s Footballer of the Year.

“I think this news can be seen for what it is; rewarding a person who performed and contributed greatly for the team and the club last season,” manager Juergen Klopp told the club’s website.

“It demonstrates two things very clearly also – his belief in Liverpool and our belief in him.”

“Mo reflects where we are as a team, I think. Last season was special with many special moments – but we want more.”

The 26-year-old netted 32 times in the Premier League, breaking the record for the most goals scored in a 38-game season, and helped the Merseyside club to a fourth-place finish.

  • ‘Punish Ramos’ petition hits 500,000 signatures

A petition calling for action to be taken against Sergio Ramos for the challenge that injured Mohamed Salah in the Champions League final has reached its original target of 500,000 signatures.

Salah lasted just half an hour of Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in Kiev after being forced off with a suspected dislocated shoulder sustained in a battle for the ball with opposition captain Ramos.

Replays showed Ramos had hold of Salah’s arm as he fell to the ground, pulling the Egypt international down with him and – in the opinion of the petition’s author – causing the injury.

The petition, which was expanded on Wednesday to call for one million signatures, is addressed to UEFA and FIFA and also criticises Ramos’ alleged play-acting during the final.

“Sergio Ramos represents an awful example to future generations of football players,” reads the petition description on Change.org. “Instead of winning matches fairly, he uses tricks that defy the spirit of the game and fair play.

“UEFA and FIFA should take measures against Ramos and similar players, using the video recordings of matches to keep the spirit of the game.”

An Egyptian lawyer launched a €1billion lawsuit against Ramos on Monday, but Salah is confident he will be ready for the World Cup.

Liverpool physio Ruben Pons thinks the forward, who has travelled to Spain for treatment, will be out of action for approximately three weeks. Egypt begin their Group A campaign against Uruguay in Ekaterinburg on June 15.

Neither UEFA nor FIFA has commented on the petition.

  • Klopp praises Salah for keeping grounded

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp has praised Mohamed Salah for keeping his feet on the ground during his record-breaking Premier League season.

The 25-year-old Egypt international scored his 32nd league goal of the season asMohamed Salah wound up their campaign with a 4-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.

Salah’s tally is a new record for a 38-game Premier League campaign, eclipsing the previous mark of 31 achieved by Luis Suarez, Alan Shearer and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“The last few weeks were really difficult for him,” Klopp told Sky Sports.

“Imagine everyone telling you how brilliant you are, or they give you an Oscar for this, an award for that, an award for getting out of car without having an accident.

“Staying on track in a season like this, it’s really difficult, he’s still a young boy and I am really happy with how he dealt with it.”

Salah has scored 44 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions this season, and will get the chance to add to that tally when Liverpool face Real Madrid in the Champions League final on May 26.

  • Plot of land coming for unstoppable Salah in Mecca

Hard work pays, and again success has many brothers and yields a lot of goodwill.  That appears to be the case for rampaging Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah who has made the act of goal scoring in recent times a mere past time.

The former Roma forward who has so far scored 33 goals for Liverpool is about to be honoured with a plot of land in Mecca according to Saudi news outlet Sabq.

The honour is coming so close to other goodies that has hit the table of the African footballer of the year including the PFA Player of the Year award.  His photo finish performance against his former club in the semi final first leg of the Champions League Tuesday is another super talking point and a huge plus for the 25 year old Egyptian.

Naturally, Salah is enormously popular back in Egypt – never more so than after scoring the penalty which took them to this summer’s World Cup finals.

Little wonder during recent election in Egypt millions of voters shunned the candidates printed on the ballot papers, choosing to vote for Salah instead as President. His humility many say is simply infectious.

On Monday, Fahd Al-Rowky – vice president of the local municipality in Mecca – announced his intention to honour the Liverpool forward.

“There are several choices about giving this piece of land,” he told Sabq. “The way to go will be determined by Captain Mohamed Salah as well as the Saudi system.

“If the Saudi system allows the land to be owned by Salah, he will be given a piece of land in holy Mecca outside Haram.

The other option will be to have a mosque built on the land in his name.”

This isn’t just a reward for success, though: Rowky has stressed that while Salah’s talent makes him an ambassador, his manners, public personality and many charitable acts also allow him to serve as a fine messenger for Islam in the UK.

Liverpool handed Roma a 5-2 defeat with Salah scoring two of the goals but resisting the temptation to celebrate against his former club.

  • Manchester City players dominate PFA Team of the Year

Players from the Premier League champions-in-waiting Manchester City dominated the Professional Footballers’ Association’s ( PFA ) Team of the Year announced on Wednesday, occupying five out of 11 spots.

City defenders Kyle Walker and Nicolas Otamendi, midfielders David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne as well as all-time top scorer Sergio Aguero were named in the side.

Tottenham Hotspur had three players on the list, including England striker Harry Kane, who made the team for a third straight year along with Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.
