Naira Marley trends after Mohbad’s demise

Singer and record label boss, Naira Marley is trending on the X app, formerly Twitter amid the death news of his former signee, Mohbad.

The report of the 27-year-old KPK (Ko Por Ke) crooner’s death suddenly emerged on Tuesday evening and swiftly went viral.

The report shook the online community, throwing the entire music industry as well as fans and lovers of the deceased into grief.

Mohbad had a strained relationship with his former label and the boss of Marlian Records and Naira Marley.

On December 2019, Naira announced the founding of the record label during his Marlian Fest concert at Eko Hotel and Suite, Lagos State.

On the same night, he announced that he had signed four artists including Zinoleesky, Cblack, Mohbad and Fabian Blu to the record label.

However, in October 2022, Mohbad officially ended his contract with Naira Marley’s record label.

His legal team served a letter of termination to Marlian Records alleging criminal acts of assault and battery against their client.

In the termination notice on Tuesday, October 25, 2022; the Marlian boss was accused of orchestrating constant attacks on Mohbad.

It also claimed the music executive failed to pay advances to Mohbad and royalties due him from his intellectual property since 2019.

Prior to the contract termination notice, the singer recounted how he was allegedly assaulted by his record label owners, Marlian.

In a series of tweets, Mohbad narrated the events that led to his assault with some of his friends inside the Marlian house after reportedly demanding a change of manager.

He emphasised while they were being assaulted Naira Marley ‘coordinated some of the attacks as he instructed the boys to beat them up.’

The rapper born Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba revealed in July 2023, a few months before his demise that he had no plans to ever return to his former record label.

On the ‘Big Friday Show’ with reality TV star, Tacha, the musical act delved briefly into the saga-cum-split from his former boss.

When asked to address the matter without necessarily giving too much detail, the 27-year-old artiste stated: “We just had a split, you know. From Marlian music to Imolenization. We just wanted to be on our own but it didn’t come easy.

“Doing my own thing, I’m happy being all by myself because that’s what I wanted ever since. It’s been more difficult, normal cos nothing good comes easy.”

On reneging on his exit from his former record label, Mohbad said: “There’s nothing that has made me consider going back to Marlian Music. It’s forward ever. Ajeh!

“Between Naira Marley and I, it’s ‘Hi, hi’ from far, you know,” he added when quizzed on their relationship moving forward.

Amid the news of his death, controversies erupted with several speculations making waves as a result of his inharmonious relationship with Naira Marley.

@toolzmoney tweeted: “We lost Mohbad at 27, the singer was just getting to the peak of his music career. Rip. To think Bella Shmurda said he once tried committing suicide and he also said the Marlians record boss, Naira Marley should be held responsible if ge dies. This is tragic.”

@Queen_Aeesha said: “Funniest thing is Naira Marley might know nothing about Mohbad’s death.
How e go convince people like this??”

@officialmrdeen wrote: ““Everybody in the whole world, please help me… if I die, na Marlian music Naira Marley k!ll me”. Months ago, Mohbad said this but no celebrity talked about it.”

@TheHolyman_ stated: “Mohbad dead at 27 just when he is about to reach his peak. He once accused his Former Label boss Naira Marley to be held responsible if he died. Bella Shmurda also said he attempted suicide few months ago. May His soul Rest in peace

@babanla_yusuf asked: “Is Naira Marley responsible for Mohbad death according to their last incident???

@attah_akor tweeted: “Mohbad is said to have passed away after receiving injection for his ear infection. Nobody is questioning the hospital but most people are clinging to the words he said about Naira Marley over an altercation.”

@Championwtmg said: “Bella shmurda only said Mohbad attempted suicide back then because of the issue he had with Naira Marley . Any other news is not true.”
