Ekere said that the people have agreed to re-elect  President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

  • ’You must join Buhari to transform Nigeria’

The Emir of Daura, Dr. Umar Faruq Umar on Monday in Daura charged ministers and members of the federal executive council, FEC, to work assiduously with President Muhammadu Buhari to transform the country and make her the dream of all

The Emir who gave the charge while receiving the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Audu Ogbeh on a visit to the Emir’s palace, said since President Buhari hails from Daura anyone working with him who ensures the speedy development of the town and country, is also helping the people of Daura

He said “Any Minister that is assisting Buhari to develop Nigeria is assisting Daura People. Buhari took time to choose hard working and transparent Nigerians as Ministers. I am hoping that after 2019 elections, he will also choose men and women of integrity to also continue the good work’’

The Emir further noted that despite the fact that their son Muhammadu Buhari being the President of Nigeria, Daura his hometown is not getting enough from the center.

He enjoined the Ministers to make provision in their Ministry’s budget of ensuring that Daura benefitted immensely from Buhari administration.

According to him, “Buhari by his nature will not influence the sitting of any projects in Daura. But his Ministers who benefitted from his appointment should reciprocate by bringing developmental projects to Daura, his birth place’’.

He said “If the Ministers failed to site any projects to Daura, they have betrayed the President and people of Daura.

“The people of Daura and Katsina have more prospects in Rice production and irrigation farming than people of Kebbi that were given attention.

“Katsina has dams and irrigation sites like Sabke, Jibia, Zobe, Daberan, Mai Ruwa dams and if utilized has potentials of feeding the state and its neighbours.

“I urge you to go back, look inwards and search for how you can assist people of Daura. Daura is faced with absence of projects for its development and its people are hungry and need federal government assistance,”

Earlier, the Minister, Audu Ogbeh said plans are underway to establish a tomatoes farm and processing plants that will create about six thousand jobs for farmers growing tomatoes and also stop importation of tomatoes in the country.

Ogbeh also assured the Emir that his ministry will look into the issue of establishing a Rice mill as well as providing improved seeds to farmers in Daura Emirate.

The Nation gathered that the Presidency is not happy with the decision to suspend the Senator few days after displaying his loyalty to the President and the party by staying back in the party.
A senior member of the party said the leadership was shocked to receive the news of Senator Sani’s suspension and felt that those behind it cannot truly be working foe the interest of the party and the President.
The party official who would not want to be names “because I do t have the mandate to speak for the party said “we feel that considering what is going on in the party, this is not the right time for anybody who has the interest of the President and the party at heart to think of suspending anyone, definitely not a Senator who is supporting the President
It will be recalled that Senator Sani had shunned the idea of defecting to the PDP like other APC National Assembly members following the peace moves initiated by the National chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

”I want to implore other state governments to emulate Lagos State by ensuring harmonious relationship  between  the executive and the legislature.
”Such relationship helps us perform better by  carrying  out our constitutional  roles as elected officers and reaching out to the yearnings of the electorates,” Ambode said.

  • I have no intention to return to PDP – Oke

The governorship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in the 2016 poll, Chief Olusola Oke (SAN) has refuted the report that he was planning to return to the People’s Democratic Party(PDP).

Oke who is the former National Legal Adviser of the PDP before joining  the All Progressives Congress (APC) shortly  before 2015 general election won by President Muhammadu Buhari, later moved to the AD and contested against Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the then APC candidate.

He however retraced his step and returned to APC at a rally in Akure late last year.

A statement by his media aide, Rotimi Ogunleye said “There is no iota of truth in the story. It is a story planted by his detractors.

“Regardless of the unfavourable experience in APC as claimed by the planted story, I have no intention of leaving APC either for PDP or any other party for now. Politics is in the air and one will understand the wicked intention behind the planted story especially at this time.

While appreciating the information dissemination role of the media,Oke was of the opinion that the profession demands the right of confirmation of information and event before their reportage.

The statement said “We think any information about the person, office, profession or vocation of Chief Oke should be confirmed before any publication of such information as he is accessible and would have thought the said news will be confirmed before its needless reportage.

“We therefore advise the public to please disregard the news as it only represents the narrow intention of the minds behind the planted story”.

  • I am standing by President Buhari – Kalu

Despite the ongoing gale of defection in the All Progressives Congress (APC) by chieftains of the party, former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has said that nothing will make him to change his mind over his support for President Muhammadu Buhari.

Recall that reports earlier in the week alleged that Kalu was planning to defect to the PDP after the senate President Bukola Saraki and other legislators left the APC.

However, Kalu at a meeting with stakeholders and executive members of the party from wards to state levels including major stakeholders of the party in the state held at his Camp Neya in Igbere, Bende local government area said that he was going nowhere but to stay in APC and ensure that Buhari was re-elected come 2019.

According to him, APC under President Buhari in three years has been able to do what then PDP led government could not do within the sixteen years that they were in power.

The former governor who recalled how impassible the Enugu-Awka-Onitsha and Enugu-Umuahia-Aba-Port Harcourt were under the PDP and how he tried all his best to draw the attention of the PDP led government to the ugly state of the road which serves as major expressways connecting the southeast states and other parts of the country said that the story is no longer the same under the Buhari APC led government and vowed that APC in the state in order to recompense Buhari for his numerous works in the southeast which the state has benefitted, would ensure that he (Buhari) gets 75percent vote cast in the state come 2019 presidential election.

Kalu while using the opportunity to disclosed that the state government is taking glory over some of the federal government instituted projects in the state assured Abians that the party would soon come out with the list of federal government sponsored projects including the ongoing school feeding of pupils in primary schools, rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads among other federal government completed and ongoing projects across the state.

The APC chieftain assuring Abians and party members that the era of PDP rigging in Abia State is gone said that while they (APC) would not rig to win election in 2019, added that they won’t allow the PDP or any other party in the state to rig APC out.

“We will soon draw a list of some of the completed and ongoing projects in Aba and Umuahia and every other parts of the state being executed by the federal government through the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and other arms of government which the Abia State government is taking glory for.

“President Buhari has done more than PDP did in 16years. For the first time after 16years of PDP rulership, the Enugu-Awka-Onitsha and Enugu-Umuahia-Aba-Port Harcourt are receiving attention of the federal government. The Niger Bridge is about 60percent completion. Are we talking about the federal government school feeding and the numerous works that NDDC is doing in the state which the state government is taking glory of doing?

“We will soon list the projects that the federal government is doing in the state so that the people will be better informed and be in a better position to make proper decision in 2019. How can a government that has not been able to pay workers’ salaries and pensioners their gratuity and other entitlements be taking glory of what they didn’t do?

“The era of intimidation of the opposition or rigging in the state is gone. APC is ready to march PDP in any way and in whatever form. PDP are locust in the land of Abia and after 2019, the locust will be found no more. But you must go back to your various wards and local governments to preach this good news to the people. The state has been criminalized, it is now being ruled with lies and so, the power lies in the hands of the people to change or continue believing the lies. People must not vote because of personal relationship, but because of the competence of such individuals.”

Kalu who reinstated that the party has not zoned the governorship position of the party to any part of the state stated that the essence of such decision is to ensure that the party presents only but the best candidate who has what it will take to restore the state to the part of honour and glory.

Present at the meeting were the Chairman of Masters Energy, Uche Ogah, Rt.Hon. Stanley Ohajuruka (former speaker Abia State House of Assembly), Senator Chris Adighije, Dr. Mrs. Ori Obasi (State Woman Leader), APC State chairman, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa, CEO of defunct Hallmark Bank, Sir Marc Wabara and among other party stalwarts across the state.

  • Fear of Buhari’s second term

Prancing across the country and making desperate stomp speeches, laced with bile and toxic invectives aimed at the Muhammadu Buhari –led federal   government, former President Olusegun Obasanjo exemplifies the panic and   fear that have gripped Nigeria’s traditional political elite about the   prospects of President Buhari’s second term. Former military president, Ibrahim Babangida in the recent past has quipped that Nigeria will be better with a younger president who is digitally literate when it is doubtful whether Narenda’s Modi, who is leading India, world’s  largest liberal democracy and making remarkable progress in reforming the  economy, is even computer literate.

Babangida, himself a former discredited military dictator, whose regime was known for the notorious culture of ‘settlement’, a derisive euphemism  for massive state-directed corruption has his shadowy imprints in all the  unfolding political shenanigans to stop President Buhari from winning a  second term in office.

The poster boy of state-minted billionaire, former defence minister, Theophilus Danjuma has previously raised alarm, alleging army-directed pogrom against residents of some local communities. While he may have recently gone quiet, trenchant voices at the helm of stop-Buhari campaign, echoes his political body language.

From the n-PDP, r-APC to the recent political quake that rocked the National Assembly in which a record number of the ruling APC legislators jumped over to various opposition parties, but especially to the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), is the remarkable crystallization the trepidation that have dogged a section of the political class of a second term in office by President Buhari. The prospects of Buhari’s second term in office is particularly stunning and  terribly ruing, given that he was previously considered un-electable until the  political elite completely squandered the very last of their political  goodwill, forcing them to gravitate around Buhari’s famed credibility and  popular appeal. In massively hitching a ride on his credibility and popular appeal, they actually intended to overthrow the values he stands for, from  within. Nearly three years into the unnatural cohabitation, the  disgruntled elite are fast peeling away, coalescing around the power  oligarchs in desperate effort to return the country to the familiar  terrain where politics and public office holding makes the roaring returns  of instant fabulous wealth.

Nearly one year ago, President Buhari was a total political write-off, struggling with health challenges and barely managed to survive his worst health scare, according to him.

His full-fledged war against corruption, the veritable mainstay of the political class has considerably heightened and started taking its toll. The putative but potent prophecy of the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience

Jonathan during the campaign for the 2015 Presidential election that a Buhari victory will haul politicians to jail at unprecedented scale is proving ominous. After running the rings around the judicial process for more than  a decade, former Taraba and Plateau governors, Messrs Jolly Nyame

and Joshua Dariye are currently serving long jail sentences for  corruption. In this instance, no corrupt member of the political class, worth his or her spine, would sit idly by and watch President Buhari’s re-election for a second term despite party affiliations. The judges who are now actively dispensing justice and handing out severe punishments to political itchy fingers who vandalized the commonwealth did not drop from  the sky but have been with us all along, only that now, they have  sufficient political ambiance of non-interference and zero political backlash against their careers to discharge their duties according to the law.

To add to the worries and dilemma of some sections of the political class,  President Buhari signed the Presidential Executive Order, No 6, the  first-ever frontal assault on the humongous but dubious assets  effortless acquired by most of the predatory and lousy elites. Since the publication and signing of the executive order, the public space has had to endure the fury of the political class and their allied commentariat.

The PEO-6 has been variously described as an assault on constitutional democracy, an attempt to a power grab and even orchestrated executive emasculation of the judiciary. But very few have taken pains to observe that the normal ambience of liberal democracy and its associated constitutionalism have deep technical holes in our peculiar clime, from which many soiled fat cats of our public life have happily escaped with their loots. It is undeniable that extraordinary circumstances required extraordinary measures to contend and contain. The section of the Nigeria political class adept at manipulating formal public institutions, taking advantage of their fragilities have maliciously up-ended the due-process, the core content of constitutionalism and any inclusive social order.

The fear of Buhari’s second term is certainly raising the political temperature as the prospects look bright but given that the panic is only within some section of the political class, shows that the majority of Nigerians understood the imperative to consolidate the gains of bringing discipline and some order to politics and public life.

The APC leadership, including President Buhari, should let all those who wish to leave their party to freely do so, without bothering to appease them because, in the long run, the ones who are convinced and believe in the core values espoused by President Buhari are far more useful than those with mere interests.

After the Cuban revolution, former brothel owners, who helped make Cuba, a casino colony of the United States of America were eagerly sneaking out of the country.

But, leader of the revolution, Fidel Castro, promptly threw the gate open asking any Cuban who could not reconcile himself or herself to the New Cuba to leave. Despite the number that left, the revolution survived and thrived, ushering in, universal literacy and healthcare to all Cubans. More than 60 years, even after the exit of its first generation leaders, the revolution is still standing.

President Buhari certainly in his first term that is gradually rolling to an end has not done everything right. While the pattern of criminal violence has kept mutating from one dangerous form to another, his security apparatus has not been sufficiently proactive in identifying and containing it and it has been very easy to lay charges of connivance against them. Official claims of political sabotage by detractors are too feeble to be taken serious.

Despite evident and palpable hardship among many Nigerians, government’s current focus on key fundamentals that could over time, create the enabling environment for inclusive and sustainable economic development is in the right direction.

A political will to sustain key current economic initiatives, accelerate the war against graft, and steadily return Nigeria to Nigerians in all ramifications of freely choosing their own government and holding it accountable are part of the many reasons, most Nigerians are standing by President Buhari, despite the vacillation of some sections of the political class.
