“Before you can be my friend or even relate with me, not to talk of getting married to me, you have to be kind. And I don’t mean performative. I mean genuine kindness. Once you are kind, everything else can be worked on,” she said.

Nancy Isime recounts struggles, praises Yemi Alade for early support

Actress and show host Nancy Isime has opened up about her early struggles and the heartfelt support she received from music star Yemi Alade.

In an emotional Instagram post, Nancy revealed that during her early days as a struggling actress and model, she once squatted at Yemi’s house.

She recalled working late into the night with nowhere to go, often sleeping on chairs or the floor at event venues.

Expressing deep gratitude, Nancy praised Yemi for her kindness and generosity during that difficult period.

She described the singer as peaceful, considerate, and full of positive energy—qualities that left a lasting impression on her.

The two recently celebrated their friendship by donning matching Yoruba traditional attire, with Nancy using the moment to reflect on how far they’ve come and the powerful bond they share.

She wrote, “Story Story…I’ve told this story before, and I’m sure Yemi is probably rolling her eyes right now but Yemi, I meant it when I said I’ll tell this story every chance I get.

“As I was saying…Story, Story. As a lot of you might already know, I started working at 17. As an usher/model whose parents lived all the way in Ikorodu, while most of her jobs were in town, it was difficult to go home most days when we closed too late for me to find a bus or bike to take me home.

“I’d have to ask any of my co-workers then if it was okay to crash at theirs till morning, and when there’s enough people staying back with me at the venue, I’d sleep on chairs joined together or the ground/rugged area till it was bright enough to get a bus home.

“The ages 17-19 were basically me struggling for a place to sleep when I worked too late to go home.

“Sometimes I’d brave it back home to Ikorodu at 2/3 am, trekking with my koin koin shoe with my dad worried, calling me every 3 minutes and my brothers in the streets trying to meet up with me. Let’s just say I’m destined to live long.

“Yes, my family were worried, especially my dad, but I am a dangerous gyal and it’s best to let me figure out life my way…else! The rebellion is quite rebellious, I must confess. I’m a full blooded Esan Woman. Our stubbornness is from above.

“Now comes Yemi, whom I had met through a mutual friend and had become an acquaintance. I asked her over the phone one day if it was okay to stay at her off-campus accommodation for a bit, and she immediately said Yes!

“Fam, I stayed for weeks, and this woman never complained! The peace was too much; I had to leave when I wasn’t ready to.

“Shortly after, I could afford my own space in her building as I gained uni admission, and the friendship and kindness continued. Yemi is becoming my kind neighbour.

“Many years later, I still have the softest spot for Yemi and will eternally be grateful to her for being one of the bookmarks of kindness and generosity in my life. Allowing me to squat with her wasn’t what stood out; I squatted with other people, too. It was the attitude, consideration and peace! My Padi @yemialade, I dey for you for Life!!”

Nancy Isime turns 33, reflects on humble beginnings

Actress and show host Nancy Isime is celebrating her 33rd birthday with a deeply personal and reflective post on Instagram.

She shared her journey, from humble beginnings to becoming a successful actress and homeowner.

Nancy recalled her childhood, sitting in an uncompleted building with her family, and vowing to own a good home one day.

According to her, she started working as an event usher at 17 and saved towards building her father’s dream home.

After achieving her goal of building her father’s house, Nancy said she quietly prayed for God’s help in achieving her own dreams.

Just a year later, she received the keys to her own dream home, after making installment payments.

Nancy expressed her gratitude to God for His blessings, wisdom, direction, favor, and peace.

She acknowledged that her success is not just hers, but also a proof to God’s goodness and a source of inspiration for young girls and boys.

She wrote: “This is 33! Which of the Lord’s blessings can I deny? None! I remember so clearly, I was about 13, sitting in what was going to be our new home – an uncompleted building, the only windows and doors were those protecting the rooms we would sleep in. Everywhere else was pure carcass!

No flooring, No ceilings, No doors, No windows, No running water- just our beloved well which provided us water to do everything including drink.

“I remember sitting there and one day I said… I’m going to own a Good home! But before I buy even a tiny piece of land, I’m going to help Daddy achieve his lifelong dream of owning a fully completed furnished house.

“At 17, I started working, starting strongly as a booked and busy Event Usher.

After every earning, I’ll set aside some money towards “Vision Daddy’s house”, this continued through out all of my career transitions and finally on the 18th of December 2022, I gave my Daddy the keys to his fully completed and furnished dream home.

“Quietly while everyone was celebrating this new feat, in passing, I said “God, I don do wetin you say make I do oh, abeg help me run my own, but no rush, at your own time”.

“December 15 2023, I received the keys and papers to my dream home, after making my first initial payment just a few days prior (Slide 4&5)

  • Five stars who transformed looks for movie roles

Five stars who transformed looks for movie roles

In the world of filmmaking, actors often undergo dramatic transformations to bring their characters to life. From drastic weight loss to bold hairstyle changes, these physical transformations showcase an actor’s dedication to their craft.

Here are five notable examples from Nollywood:

    1. Yvonne Jegede:

Yvonne Jegede’s recent bold move has made headlines. She shaved her head for her role in the upcoming film “Aja,” a love story that promises to provoke and inspire.

Jegede believes in giving everything to the role, even if it means stepping out of her comfort zone.

“I love my job too much not to take risks… I see myself as a tool to convey the appropriate message, if the script deserves it, I will do whatever needs to be done to give the story life. Apart from this drastic change, I am learning to speak proper Yoruba language

AJA is a love story… A provoking story that will have you on your feet,” she wrote in part.

    2. Okusaga Adeoluwa (Saga):

BBNaija Shine Ya Eyes housemate, Saga, took his acting career to the next level by cutting his beard and shaving his head for a role in the Anikulapo series.

He said the transformation wasn’t easy, but it helped him get into character.

“This is goodbye, my jaw looks deprived, and my face looks incomplete like it is loading. I had to cut my beard every day for two months to get here. It took a lot of getting used to seeing myself look 10 times younger. I spent a lot of time looking in front of the mirror, singing to myself and drawing myself to even remind myself how beautiful I looked. It was tough not gonna lie but it helped me get into character easier. I cut my hair, and shaved my head for a beautiful story.”

He added that when he was asked if he could cut his beard for the role, he didn’t hesitate as this was his biggest role yet since acting for barely a year

“Anyway, I was given the opportunity to play a character in the upcoming Anikulapo season 2 and I was asked if I could cut my beard, my reply was “say no more”. I have only been acting for a year and this has been my biggest role so far, nothing could stop me. I had to cut my beards every night because within 24 hours, I could already see traces of baby beards growing underneath and that was bad for the film. This wasn’t easy, mentally and physically because of the bumps on my face as a result of ingrown hairs. These are the sacrifices we make for cinema.” he said.

However, the actress revealed she had gained weight for a movie role in 2022 and struggled to shed it off, taking over a year to achieve.

“I’m not gonna lie, deciding to add weight for a role in 2022 and lose it right after was a lot more challenging than I expected it to be. Took me wayyyy longer and wayyyy too much effort to get the weight off.

“I was too sure I’d lose the weight in 2 weeks, just before filming my next project at the time but yeah! My metabolism failed meeee I dragged the weight for over a year and across a few more projects Never again!!! I would have given tips but I kinda like the narrative of my yansh bursting, adds a lirru razzmatazz to my boring online personality,” she said.

    4. Jide Awobona:

Jide Awobona called out director Abey Jomo for putting him on a strict diet for his character. The actor shared a screenshot of the rules, questioning what he had done to deserve such a drastic transformation.

On Thursday, May 23, 2024, Awobona shared photos of himself on Instagram that show that he has significantly lost weight. He also posted screenshots of his chat with the director that showed he was asked to stop eating.

“Can you start fasting from today? E.g don’t eat till sunset, for all the days, It will show on your face. I want you to look hungry, your eyes sunken. Stop eating or drinking now til 7, after 7 pm, don’t eat tomorrow till 7 pm again. You can Just get watermelon, to hydrate you. Watermelon one slice in the morning, till 7 pm,” the screenshots show.

    5. Bukunmi Oluwasina:

Why I was scared of fame, by Nancy Isime

Media personality, Nancy Isime, has revealed her initial fear of achieving a high profile and the fame that accompanies it.

In an episode of the CreativiTEA podcast, Isime confessed to her earlier apprehension about being in the spotlight.

She reflected on her early career, noting how the idea of public and media scrutiny caused her significant anxiety.

Isime cited the example of popular blogs offering unsolicited opinions about celebrities, which further heightened her fears.

“I was actually very scared of the limelight. When I started working, I used to see how a popular blog would pick random stories about famous people, and people would give unsolicited opinions. It seemed like it was okay to do that, but I was already worried about fame. I was just a kid who wanted to work”, she said.

However, she said her desire for financial independence drove her to pursue her dreams.

Isime, coming from a modest background, was driven to earn her own money and not depend on others, emphasizing self-sufficiency.

“I have always been the child who saw herself making her own money; maybe because I came from a humble background where asking for anything felt like a taboo. You just knew there wasn’t any money. I am a huge believer in spending on myself, because I don’t want anyone to feel like without them, I wouldn’t have the life I have,” she said.
